The best restaurants serving Indian food in Yorkshire and The Humber

As someone born and raised in India, I can confidently say that this meal was far from authentic Indian cuisine. My wife and I dined here yesterday, and while we appreciated the traditional experience of eating with our hands, we were alarmed by the lingering yellow stain left on my skin. Despite washing my hands multiple times with soap, the color refused to fade. No genuine Indian spices cause such discoloration—it’s almost certainly artificial food coloring, which raises serious concerns about its safety. Transparent disclosure of ingredients is essential, and this should have been made clear to customers.

I’ve known York Tandoori for over 5 years, and it’s always been my top choice for Indian food. I’ve tried many Indian restaurants, but none compare to this one. The food is always fresh, full of flavour, and truly satisfying. The restaurant itself is simple, but it’s a real hidden gem — warm, welcoming, and consistent in quality. The staff are friendly and kind, and they always make you feel at home. If you're in York and want authentic Indian food, York Tandoori is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Food was ok, spicy Lanka piyaza was great. Some curries had unidentifiable cheese but it was not paneer. Man serving us however seemed to really want us out. Not the best customer service

Curries were very bland and lacking in flavour. The chutney tray pots were very small and only half full. Also, one of the dishes was different to what was ordered. When we rang up to complain they said they had ran out of the main ingredient and the delivery driver should have told us at the point of delivery. This is not acceptable as we should have been told before it was delivered.

Absolutely SHOCKING….i wanted to order two starters and a pudding but I can’t because I am not ordering a main meal. Looks like I will have to eat somewhere else then charming…I wouldn’t mind but the place is EMPTY!

Everything was dry , tasted chalky, soggy naan bread and 2 prawns in the whole dish , wouldn’t waste my money again , all went in the bin

Visiting this restaurant again after an amazing night with friends so I went back with family . Customer service was spot on from staff & the food was delicious I enjoyed everything I ordered that day . Highly recommend for anyone looking for a dinner out with family or friends.

I was really looking forward to this place, hoping for a great meal, but unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to expectations. When I arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty, with just one other customer. The waitstaff seemed more focused on playing games on their phones than attending to the guests. I ordered a curry, but it was disappointing, mostly bones and fat, which was off-putting. On a positive note, the naan was delicious and definitely the highlight of the meal. I hope they can improve the quality of the food and service in the future.

U guys need to come here their food is very impeccable i enjoyed the chicken and rice especially i recommend it. My god the food here is divine.

been there since they first opened in Knottingley never add a bad meal... been a few times at Christmas day as well now live in Bradford and still cone back to them for my Indian meals will not go anywhere else
