Taste of india in Calderdale

So glad to see that it had reopened. Ordered food to be collected and they did not disappoint, the food was great and worth the money. The staff were friendly. Looking forward in ordering again from them.

Our first visit to Taste of India and we’ll definitely be heading back! Gorgeous food and really great service. We had starters, mains and sides and it was all delicious! Really recommend! 😊

Updated review, Still Highly recommended, Food & Service was Fantastic, If you would be interested in trying this restaurant I recommended the early bird menu which includes a Starter & Main including rice or naan for only £10.95 (until 7pm) However there is only limited seating of around 8 tables! 😉

My second visit to this excellent restaurant. Delicious, authentic Indian food served by the most friendly and accommodating staff, Naz was again taking care of us. The chef even presented my friend with a surprise birthday cake. Look forward to another visit soon.

Overpriced, poor quality and tasteless. Spent £60 on a takeaway. Cost £12.10 for 6 small bits of chicken described as a chicken tikka main course and didn’t come with any salad as per the menu. Portions generally small across all meals (lots of sauce annd little meat) and didn’t feel particularly fulfilled after eating given how much it cost. No real flavour to the food and the balti didn’t taste any different to the Karahi. Far better curry places to eat in Sowerby Bridge than here and won’t be ordering from them again.

Not a good experience, the waiters weren't very customer friendly. I asked if any of the dishes we had chosen had MSG in, he replied MSG? as though he had never heard of It! I replied 'monosodium glutamate, as it makes us very sick'. His response was a flick of the arm, a turn away of the head, and a big NO.. I asked because like Chinese restaurants, now Indian restaurants use this flavour enhancer in their cooking. So I believed him...the food was very average...but, what a night we have had..griping pains, acid burning in the Digestive tract...and the trots..I still don't feel good this morning..all the signs of when we have MSG. I've asked at other Indians in sowerby bridge, and they were honest and told me that what I was thinking of ordering had it in, so I chose another dish..quite respectful. So be warned if you have alergys..

Recently re opened. New team running front of house (assume new management?) Served very quickly. Pickle tray and starters much tastier than before if I'm honest. Mains still as good. Bring your own alcohol or enjoy in house COBRA which is amazing. Thursday night early bird offer so cheap but quiet hence atmosphere slightly less than optimal. Definitely recommended though. Staff very friendly and efficient. So much so I left a (small) tip and I'm from BARNSLEY!!!⁹

WARNING.......DO NOT ORDER a take out from taste of india.....£1.70 per roti which came uncooked and had to finish in pan just so they were edible...dry chicken n my mince curry...well might as well of been out of a tin... spoke to the manager Ali, he said complain through Uber eats. Never have we done this before but this was sooooo poor we wanted to warn you all.

Ordered via Just Eat, despite a service fee and delivery charge restaurant evidently failed to prepare my order until I'd called (not via the number on Just Eat as this didn't work).. and then had to call again to ask yet again where delivery was, in the end delivered after 2 hours from ordering cold and not very nice. Restaurant did not apologise but told me not to use Just Eat next time and that they would give me 50% off.. not interested, would like refund on current order. Why affiliate with Just Eat and not deliver, you accepted my order and took my money but failed on all counts.

This place has gone down hill quicker than an Olympic skier Fish starter was inedible went straight back to kitchen, bhajis was greasy For main we ordered mix balti but they forgot to add the lamb peppers and onions just came in a thick sludgy sauce Waiter disinterested obviously did not charge us because we had not eaten anything but recommended us to go to the Indian opposite????? Its not a coincidence that the place was empty

Love it. Everything is cooked fresh. Best curries around. The do an early bird and also takeaways. If you don't like something or want to add some item it is not a problem. They can also cater if you have allergies. Just tell them and they make sure it is ok. The chapati is light and fluffy best ones I have had. Mum wanted a curry that is not even on the menu. The man in charge heard the conversation and said they would make one for her and she really enjoyed it. Trouble is it is so good we are having it a minimum of once a week and sometimes twice. Highly recommended

The food was amazing. We had 2 courses. The starters were lovely. The curry is one of the best I have ever had. Would reccomend to anybody. We will be visiting again soon.

I thought another Indian restaurant in SB would struggle against the competition, but it's fantastic: the second best after Syhiba. (No shame there, Syhiba is a truly top-end culinary experience). It achieves this because of all the original delicious choices. Especially love the game options.

This restaurant is well worth a try if you want to try something that’s a little different. I’ve just had the chicken livers starter and pheasant with ginger main course. Both were very good with plenty of different herbs and spices. It’s certainly different to the main stream restaurants and worth trying if you fancy a change from the normal. The interior and exterior decor doesn’t do justice to the cuisine but don't let that put you off.

Saturday night visited taste of India for first time due to reviews so busy felt sorry for the staff but well worth the wait food excellent very tasty and unusual menu with duck venison seabass monkfish on will definitely be calling again well done staff

Hidden in plain sight, this restaurant is one of Sowerby Bridge's best offerings. I've been visiting this restaurant with family and friends since it opened, and have never been had a bad meal. If you take nothing else from this review, please just give it a try. The food is simply exquisite. You will not be disappointed! The decor is tasteful, bright, modern, and clean. The restaurant is small in size, and has a nice intimate feel to it - ideal for meeting friends / a meal out with your partner. Upon entry, you'll be greeted with typical Yorkshire warmth, and shown to your table. The menu is extensive, and has some really unique and unusual offerings that you won't find at your average curry house, eg. venison, pheasant, sea bass, monkfish curries. There's all the usual favourites too, and definitely something for everyone to enjoy. The service is always absolutely impeccable. Nothing is too much trouble for the guys at Taste of India, and they always go out of their way to make you feel welcome and accommodated. Aside from the food, this is genuinely the best thing about the place! Their Covid-secure measures are simple, yet effective. New wipe-down menus have been provided to ensure cleanliness standards are maintained. The servers all wear face coverings and gloves, and will always stand at an appropriate distance when you are ordering. The food is always piping hot, and cooked to your liking. The chefs really do create individual curries to suit your taste. They can cook any curry to any strength +/- any ingredient as you require. I've personally sampled a wide variety of the curries here, and they've always been excellent in flavour, strength and taste. The starters are great too - chicken chaat (slightly hot) being a particular favourite of mine. The portion sizes are extremely generous, and the sundries are always cooked to perfection, particularly the naan breads. I'm quite particular when it comes to curry, and am not usually easily satisfied. But this restaurant never fails to impress me. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

4.5 stars for a mix-up last week, and thoughtful service when they fixed it this week. Thankyou to the caller, I could hear you on the phone defending me from the other person, and had a laugh when you said I wasn't blind 😂 The delivery guy was cheerful too, lovely food experience this time.

Had takeaway for the first time from here. Very good quality and great tasting. . delivered within 1hour as was stated via just eat. would order again without question.

Been a few times, last time was for early bird (£7.95 for starter and main meal). Service was excellent and food was very nice with good portion size. The place looks small on the outside but is actually quite large inside and well decorated.It felt really cosy with tables spaced apart. My partner is vegetarian and she loved her meal too. The thing I liked was the large chunks of chicken, which I like rather than small pieces. Give it a try, its good. The banners on the front window should be reduced so people can see into the restaraunt as they drive buy.

We have been eating curries from the same place in Sowerby Bridge for years, thought we would try somewhere different, what a meal a little bit more money but fantastic, fresh taste's and 4 of use all had different so could compare for next time, would highly recommend,

Just had another takeaway tonight and it was really excellent. Onion bhajis and sheesh kebab to start followed by lamb tikka masala and mixed hasina. This consisted of chunks of slow-cooked lamb, minced lamb and chicken tikka with spinach. Absollutely superb. Highly recommended and look forward to the next one.

Best takeaway i have had in ages, lots to choose from on menu, dishes ive never heard of but would love to try. Maybe a bit more expensive than some other takeaways but its worth every pence and pound

I was on a night out with my family in Sowerby Bridge and we was recommended this restaurant by one of the bar staff, the service was fast and friendly and the food was very tasty and well presented and They also do an early bird offer which is great value for money but we just missed out on it but we will be coming again next time for it!

we had been looking forward to visiting as the take aways were quite good. firstly something yellow and sticky on my menu and the tableware not clean. we don't get the starters when we get a take away as they are small dry and expensive. but my wife wanted the garlic prawns and at 6 quid we expected more than 3 medium prawns, thats 2 quid a prawn. my duck tikka was cheaper but dry. on came the main course. my wifes likes the cheesy paneer curry. this had some umelted mozzerella on top and pretty bland. i had the venison curry. quite big lumps of venison in a generic sauce. all in all a poor experiance.

Great place, fab food xxxx on first visit. 2nd visit omg service dire, table for 7 booked well in advance for new year's eve. Had to ask for everything, poppadoms, drinks, starters and main, 2 hours from getting there we finally got our mains but not before having to ask where they were. Complained at end and was just told "can't do anything about it, manager not here"

Love this restaurant always a good atmosphere the staff are friendly and cannot do enough to please.The food is just beautiful and I love the naan bread so fresh and fluffy.Always a good price and definitely get good value for your money..Have been a few times now and it never disappoints....cannot wait for my next visit

Wife and i was out in sowerby for a few drinks and decided to call in taste of india again, the service was top notch and food was beautiful as i had the monkfish tikka and my wife had the lamb chops and then for mains i tried the seabass bindya and my wife tried the aloo mass which was nice. Well be coming back again

Ordered Samosa (Meat) for a starter and Chicken Tikka Tandoori with a salad. The chicken was well spiced and full of flavour. The samosa's tasted great, just lightly cooked and the right amount of herbs and spices in. Staff was very friendly.

Decided to visit our favourite Indian again with family, as always the service was top quality and the food was absolutely tasty!

Heard so many good things about the restaurant and I would imagine it is good but we was so disappointed , ordered our food at 19:05 which was £31 after using a 10% code on just eat it was due at 20:20 which we was willing to wait as we knew they’d be busy. Rang at 20:35 to be told it should be with us as the driver had left 15mins ago then add another 10min on to that when the food came it was all stone cold, the food it self once warmed up & eating it after 9pm was tasty and I would imagine it’d be spot on if it was warm on arrival but was very disappointed especially when delivery is £2.95. Also I know each restaurant had there own take on riata but this was not appetising to even look at, it was natural yoghurt with a few onions on with water on the top where it’d settled so I know I certainly wouldn’t order that again. It was such a waste of money but had so much potential

We arrived for the dinner early bird special. The food was excellent and the amount of food was more than expected. Hated to leave uneaten food but we were stuffed. The service was also excellent. Atmosphere was very good too.

Amazing food - superb value for money

I have eaten here three times now and it never disappoints. The service is super-friendly and the food is fantastic. We usually eat the Balti Saag Aloo Paneer and a Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi and to be honest, as I write this review, my mouth is watering at the thought of the next visit! I would highly recommend this little gem of a restaurant!

Excellent curry 👌. I would probably recommend booking if coming from a distance as it only holds 30 people. Has a drinks licence. Not easy to find a parking space either. Kallam is a great host.

Been before midweek, Friday this time and they don't do the early bird at weekends. This is not as they advertise on the window. That being said the meal was very good.

Had my first curry from here yesterday. As a bloke who has been eating curries for over 30 years have to say this is up there with the best.

Me and my friends went to try out the new bar Kuja which was firehouse in Sowerby Bridge, we had a few beers there and then as usual I went to my favourite Indian which was one door down which is taste of India, my friends haven’t tried it so I decided to take them and they all really enjoyed it, food and service was excellent as usual.

Tried 4 different currys - very bland and lacking flavour, seems catored to a western pallette too much - other 2 curry houses down the road far more flavour.

We go to the Taste of Indian frequently, usually at the weekend, and we have never been disappointed with the food or service. All the staff are very friendly and the food is excellent. Every dish we have tried has been wonderful. It is only a small restaurant so if a group of people were going I'd recommend booking first. I notice somebody commented that they thought the price was excessive for what they had to eat and drink. The early-bird price of £8.95 for two courses and a sundry is only at specific times - from opening time but not sure until when - probably an hour or so. I would advise asking what time the early bird is if you want to go when the offer is on. Would recommend it thoroughly to anybody that enjoys Asian and Indian food. The drinks might be a little expensive compared to other establishments but the gorgeous food and service more than compensates for that. Highly recommended by us.

Went for my birthday mid April with a fairly big group. Friendly and efficient service and very tasty food. Everyone really enjoyed. Highly recommend and will definitely be back

Taste of India has become my new favourite place regularly to visit, I would recommend this place to anyone and you won’t be disappointed! They do an early bird offer which runs from half 5 until 7 but weekends may vary on times. Food and service is excellent on part with shyibia and village, it might be small but it packs a punch with the best!

Visited here on a Saturday evening, with 16 others, we had pre-booked as the restaurant isn’t huge.

Went last night to this restaurant, on the front it says two courses for £8.95 so we had two vegetarian starters and two vegetarian mains one rice one naan and 2 soda and limes.

Really good.. no faults with food or service... be back soon.

This is a fairly new restaurant but it is definitely a favourite. We go at least 3 sometimes 4 times a month since it opened. Love it. Great food, friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Something to suit everyone. I like fairly spicy and love the lamb lemon chilli. I take my mum and she only likes mild and they cater for her as well. Chapati are really good too. Haven't had anything I have not liked. Everything is cooked fresh and nothing is too much trouble. Mum likes a Dansak curry which is not on the menu, I mentioned it in passing and they made it for her. They also do an early bird menu. I would definitely recommend.

I have been to this restaurant a few time now food is amazing great customer service from the staff the manager is a real laff they carnt do enough for you and they are amazing i would recommend this restaurant to anyone that like a great curry prices are amazing an 2 course meal is only 8.95 we had 2xcourse meals 4 pints and an jack danials and its was only 40quid

I decided to take my family out for a Mother's Day special day meal, we arrived very early and upon arriving at 5pm we were surprised to see the place packed out and because we didn't book we had to go to the fire house next door for a drink and we were told to come back after 45mins also we heard lots of good things about the place so my mother wanted to try out the restaurant because she likes her Indian food. WOW!!! it was worth while waiting for and the food was outstanding and the service was excellent and I'd like to thank the waiter for ALI for looking after us and we'll be definitely going back.

Sowerby Bridge is one of the "foodie" destinations of West Yorkshire, with new restaurants opening reasonably regularly and more in the pipeline. Taste of India is a recent addition in a "slightly away from the main strip" location.

A very nice little Indian restaurant in Sowerby Bridge. The main courses were a good size and good value for money. 4 of us had starters, mains and drinks for a total of £70. Cobra beer available on draught. Friendly staff. Would recommend.

Staff friendly, listen to your needs, nothing too much trouble, speak perfect English and good with children.

Decided to visit Taste of India again, this time with my family. The place was packed out but luckily we just managed to get a table, food and service was excellent considering that they were soo busy, the staff handled it very well, I would give them 7 stars if I could! I think the restaurant will do really well besides the competition they have on the street. What I would suggest though is they get a bigger premises. Well done!

Decided to try a delivery from the relatively new Taste of India, ordering from Just Eat. The delivery charge was £2.95 but thought it worth a try. Sadly, this wasn't the case. The starter of fish and spinach pakora was the worst pakora we have ever eaten. It was greasy, dense and contained little fish. The mains were average at best - the chicken was strangely tough and the flavours bland. Pilau rice was sticky and clumped together. Only saving grace was the peshwari naan but this hardly made it £30 well spent!

Superb food everything we had chicken pakoras for the girlfriend king balti for me with mushrooms rice cheese and garlic naan bread was superb. The service was also first class nothing was too much trouble from the waiters and owners. The place was packed all night so maybe think about reserving a table since seating capacity is tiny compared to the other restaurants.

Excellent service and food one of the dest that I have had and great value for money parking is a bit restricted though but worth the walk.

Don’t be put off with by the simple facade this place is full of character and brilliant food. We went there for the early bird so glad we did ,the two starters we both had mixed kebab which was spot on the poppadoms and pickle tray were great,our mains were cooked to perfection and how we asked them to be cooked,I can not praise this place enough thank you for a great tasting experience.
