Ordered butter chicken, more like chicken soup. Hardly any chicken, tasteless.

Food was tastless. Meat tasted like it was just added at the end to a sweet sauce from out of a jar. Service was poor I should have cancelled at the point of ordering

Having recently moved to the area , this was our first visit to this restaurant, and will definitely be our last . We booked a table 3 days prior to our visit and on arrival we were greeted by miserable faces , not one person welcomed us and no seemed to know we were coming, and all the staff left the dining area and after much deliberation , we were offered a table at the side of the bar area where there was a constant stream of people arriving for takeouts and was the worst table in the restaurant, we asked if we could sit at an empty table in the window and they informed us they were fully booked and although we were the only customers there they reluctantly agreed and with an angry tone said we would have to vacate the table by 7 pm , we should have got up and left at this point but we opened our wine and said we would take our food home if we were asked to leave our table , The food arrived promptly and was quite nice , we even had a couple of smiles from a waiter ! We have had several meals in the area and have never experienced service like this ever ! To top it all off we were told they were fully booked and a couple came in and said they hadn’t booked and were shown to a table in the middle of the dining room !!! We had high hopes that we could be regular customers and had planned a family birthday celebration , what a narrow escape we had .

Returning from holiday we called to save me cooking . There was no customer service , they brought the wrong food for me. I adked for scampi and chips , I hot chicken nuggets ! My friend didn't enjoy her Tika masala. We said good night twice and we were ignored. This was a very unpleasant experience . They looked like they couldn't be bothered . I wouldn't recommend eating here to anyone. Maybe they are more interested in large groups as there was only 2 of us. It's important to be nice to all customers not just some. Very disappointed and won't be returning.

I used to give this 5 stars, but recently I've not been impressed with my curries here. They seem to add the meat at the end, which means it has no flavour. I had a really tasty chicken dansak at the weekend, but the food took over an hour to get to the table.

Decent food, service was prompt, but a smile wouldn't hurt guys. Be aware it's a cash only premises, and no alcohol license.

The weather was awful, but The Sizzling Plate was warm and welcoming. The food was delicious too.

Despite having booked several weeks beforehand we felt our party wasn't accommodated where we asked to sit. The service was surly and food was slammed down on the table. Despite this, the food was delicious and reasonable priced. Be aware this is a cash only establishment.

Friendly owners and staff. Easy to find, parking outside, can cater for children and disabled. Broad menu, caters to most tastes. Dishes always freshly cooked and hot. Prompt service, waiters know the menu but will check if not sure. Bring your own alcohol, no corkage. Soft drinks available. Very enjoyable and filling meal. We believe it's the best curry restaurant in York.

Visited tonight and i must say the chef Sadique came to the table and recomended a king prawn saag with fresh chillies and a sizzling king prawn. He gave us a potato and lentil side dish and a desert. The staff the food and the service is on a serious scale here and I can't recommend this place enough it's superb. Thank you to the chef and staff. By far my favourite place 100%.

Had 1 chicken and 2 lamb dishes, the sauces where a little runny (prefer a bit thicker) but the taste and service was great..

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! We called in after York Races and on seeing that they don't take cards we asked if there was an ATM machine nearby. We were told there was one in shop across road but we could get it later. I went to get cash after placing order but machine couldn't read it 🙈. Went back to restaurant and explained but was told not to worry could drop in another time - we mentioned tomorrow morning but they only opened at 5pm. Was told again not to worry, could put through door!!! We ended up eating our meal and driving a couple of miles to a Tesco where we got money out and returned to pay bill. Btw the food was outstanding 👌

A gem of a place. Clean and friendly establishment. Exceptional service. The food is faultless. Tasty and addictive. Well worth a try.

Nothing to say but the best in york by far will be returning again soon the meal for 2 could feed at least 4 ppl

Wow went last night and really enjoyed the food and the service was very good indeed nothing was to much trouble for them at all

I ordered a takeaway to be told it would be ready in 50 mins. I turned up on time to collect my order to find that there were 10 people in front of me and had to wait outside. Then 30 mins of waiting I received my order not really a great start. The starters and main were poor and ended putting most of the order in the bin .. sorry poor service, poor food I certainly won’t be returning.

All i can say is WOW! We live in York city centre and have seen this place when visiting clients in the area so decided to give it a try. BEST decision ever! Not only can you take your own alcohol but the food was amazing, the atmosphere was lovely and the service was incredible! The set menu was fantastic and Raja (sorry if spelt incorrectly) gave us some of the best, if not the best, service we have ever had in a restaurant. Cannot recommend enough.

We have been regular customers the food is excellent great value Ali ,Mahmoud and the small older waiter are attentive and give brilliant service the fly in the ointment is the tall waiter I don't know his name but has worked there for a while he needs training in customer care he is friendly to certain customers and totally ignores others very unfriendly and not a good attitude .

Recently moved to the area and a friend recommended I try the Sizzling Plate and could speak of it any more highly than they did. So, first night in Copmanthorpe I found myself taking a little trip. What a wonderful place, food was delicious, service very friendly and real community based feel. Needless to say, I will be returning (I have done already) and intend to spend an evening with close friends there for my Birthday.

This restaurant is deservedly popular on the Western side of York as it offers a wide menu of Indian dishes, always beautifully cooked and at very reasonable prices. It is spotlessly clean, the service is exemplary, and as a bonus you can bring your own wine without charge.

Always fabulous, never had a bad meal here. The staff are always very pleasant & helpful & the food is fantastic & very reasonable so would highly recommend it.

I have now had a number of takeaways the jalfrezi Was bland and tasteless also watery As if had been defrosted can’t understand Why the plastic cartons are written with Blue marker if it’s prepared fresh . Won’t be going back again ,might as well Get a frozen one from the supermarket at a fraction of the price

Called in as usual last minute with the other half the day after her birthday. The staff here are brilliant. Sham knew my other half had recently had her birthday and they brought out a cake with a mini firework. What a really nice gesture from sizzling plate. The food as always was first class. The service us exceptional. Keep up the first class service.

I don't know about the Sizzling Plate in Stamford Bridge but the one in Copmanthorp is absolutely excellent. Top food, top service and you can take your own booze. The best Lamb Garlic in York.

Excellent food but when you order via telephone make sure google is not directing you to a place in Stamford Bridge.

Having been recommended this restaurant, we gave it a try this evening. The menu choice was good and we chose dishes we'd had previously enjoyed elsewhere but unfortunately found our choices lacking in flavour and spiciness. We were unable to pay by credit or debit card, though we were told there was a cash machine close by if we didn't have sufficient money with us. A dad arrived with three children, one of which needed a highchair only to be told they didn't have highchairs so he had to order a takeaway and come back. It states it's a child friendly restaurant, but no highchairs? All in all it was disappointing, we were hoping to return with our family including young grandchildren in the future but it doesn't have the facilities.

The food was really lovely. No licence for booze but they are ok with you bringing a bottle. Just a really tasty meal for a good price.

We had an amazing Christmas dinner yesterday. We could either pre- order a British or Indian christmas dinner or order of the menu. I am veggie so I chose from the menu but my family all had the Indian Christmas dinner. It was freshly cooked and tasted yummy. The chef even served some of it. The staff that were working were attentive, friendly and just lovely. it was also nice to meet the chef. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Best Indian food in York, amazing dishes and great service, the garlic lamb is lovely, as is the Dill Raza. Although every dish I’ve ever had there has been exceptional

On visiting this busy indian restaurant in copmanthorpe on a few occasions, we found it to be of excellent service excellent food,and nothing was a problem to the staff in attendance.

This will be our second visit now, and both times we have had great food and lovely service. We will return again.

Best things are byo and on doorstep for copmanthorpe residents like us. Standard takeaway style Indian but done well and good service

Visited on the recommendations of others. Received well by waiter and placed order for takeaway but surprised cash only. Told order would take 20 mins and we could call back no seating area to wait. Very polite waiter and pleasant restaurant staff. Returned to collect meal packaged well. On return home pleasantly surprised to see salad and raita included. However two chapatis which were paid for not included in takeout bag. Vegetable samosas small and resembled and tasted like mass produced supermarket varieties as were the onion bhajis. Peswaarhi naan over sweet and buttery made with very surgery sweet copha type paste. Overpowering and not like nutty peswaarhi with coconut which is traditionally made. Curry extremely bright and colourful but again sadly lacking in spicey flavours chicken tandoori - Mandi chicken spicey but not flavoursome. Reasonably priced and ample but not what expected for curry aficionados. Doubt we will visit again.

Visited again last week with family.. As I always do when I visit Comanthorpe..

We are always given a warm welcome when entering this restaurant. There is an extensive menu and the food is reasonably priced. What makes it even better value for money is the fact that you bring your own alcohol. Food is always delicious.

There were 10 people in our party a mix of adults and kids. The food was excellent quality however they don’t have a license to sell alcohol so encourage you to take your own which means the evening is great value for money. We will go again the staff were excellent and accommodated all our needs with a smile.

We had a table for ten at 8.30 on new Years Eve, The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was as good if not better than any indian cuisine I have had anywhere.We were made to feel special as we were celebrating a 7oth birthday,everyone went out of there way to make it a most enjoyable evening.

Menú estupendo, bien preparado, con un servicio excelente. Nos decidimos por un cambio a nuestra costumbre hindú para llevar y quedamos muy satisfechos. Servicio rápido, con la entrega del restaurante al coche esperando fuera. Como una nota lateral, se me cayó una nota de cinco libras, sin saberlo, en el restaurante. Pensando que era en otro sitio, me prestado otro y paga. Más tarde esa noche tuvimos una llamada de teléfono del restaurante para decirnos la habían encontrado y pude recoger cuando lo siguiente paso, honestidad, gracias. Buena comida y estaremos pidiendo de nuevo.

Me encanta este lugar y el personal siempre dan una cálida bienvenida. Me gusta el tandoori platos frita, mi compañero curry muy caliente. Honestamente puedo decir que la comida es siempre muy buena. We needed to stop for an evening meal along the A64, and a very short detour (equivalent to some service station turn off distances) brought us here to a place which serves good curries that we were happy with.The pickles with the popadums were great, as were the curries. The chapati was a little weak I thought but overall a very good meal.

As in previous reviews we were also looking for a new curry house after Bengal Brasserie closed at Nether Poppleton...which we had used for many years! We love this place and it's actually closer than the Bengal we just didn't realise it existed. The food is always lovely and we've never had a bad curry there, my favourite is Miahs special my hubby loves Chicken saag, would highly recommend and a great price too with taking your own alcohol.

This place offers good quality curry for an amazing price.As with previous reviews you need to book for weekends. We did for our group of 9 but we had to wait 15 mins outside before the table was ready. However, this is the only downside.Bring your own booze, no charge/corkage!And for poppadoms, mixed staters main dish with rice, chips and Naan for £14.50 per head is a steal. We all need a reliable curry house in our life and this is a good fit.

Been here a few times since our local closed and it has been really good. It's very well priced and the fact you can take your own beer makes it a very cheap night but excellent food. Staff are very nice, restaurant busy so would suggest you book

I love Indian food but was left somewhat distraught when our local curry house (the Bengal Brasserie in Poppleton) closed unexpectedly in 2016 after having kept us nourished for over 15 years. We tried the Sizzling Plate on the advice of friends and what a find - tasty food, great service, good value and the ability to 'bring your own' wine and beer. Have visited a number of times in the past 6 months and always have come away really impressed by the quality and value of food. Highly recommended!!

In the delightful village of Copmanthorpe is this lovely Indian restaurant.It gets very busy at weekends so booking is essential.Lovely food and service was good try the sizzling plate special for two to start, gorgeous.No alcohol license so you can take your own alcohol which brings the price of the night down massively. Soft drinks available to buy.

Great place to eat with family and friends if you like Indian food. The staff are professional and pleasant. The food is excellent quality, plentiful, tasty and authentic. I'd highly recommend this restaurant. I've been lots of times. The takeaway is just as good. Competitive price.

The staff really make you welcome. They are not licensed which is no problem whatsoever. They put your drinks in their fridge to keep them cool, give you glasses and a bottle opener. Food is lovely and plenty of it. Their coffee floater is really nice and served in a wine glass. Nice end to a good evening.

A very good smallish place near to home, Good choice of dishes, not expensive, We just have two main courses, one side dish and one Nann bread between two and just about manage to eat it all as there is plenty of food in each dish. Staff welcoming, helpful and friendly.We have friends who come from Sheffield and Wakefield just to eat there - very good recommendation.

Well, what a lovely place this is. The restaurant is in a row of shops, and the exterior doesn't really do justice to this place. The exterior looks 'ordinary' but the food served inside is everything but ordinary.We have now been three times, and each time had the set meal. Boring, I know, but the first time we tried it we were just blown away with the succulence of the chicken and lamb, and the fresh tasting piping hot food - and because it was just so good, we've never strayed away from it. You need to bring your own drinks as it doesn't have a licence, but there's a Co-op supermarket just around the corner, and the restaurant are always happy to give you water without charging for it.The only downside we have - and I am being very very pedantic here - is that on each of the three times we've been, we've sat at the same table! The one to the left of the door as you come in. There are only two tables which seat two people, and these are on either side of the door. So if you visit, especially in winter, please make sure you close the door after you so we don't have to sit in a draught.Ooh, I just can't wait to visit again, although this time we have both vowed to try something apart from the set meal!

We visited on a busy Saturday evening. Very tasty and good value for money. My only (small) gripe was having to wait about 15 minutes even though we'd booked. As the restaurant was full it was quite noisy but that's better than deathly silent! Recommended.

We came from Kendal for the weekend and this restaurant was recommended It did not disappoint, it was full at 7pm on a Saturday , the food was delicious, service first class, no waiting and it was full, and the cherry on the cake, bring our own wine, with no corkage, thank you for making our weekend

We are new locals and walked to the restaurant to try it out. They don't have a licence so take your own drinks. All the staff were great and very friendly. It was a busy restaurant which is good to see as we are all for supporting local industry. They brought us wine glasses. The food was delicious. We had a coffee with cream at the end of the meal and it's the best tasting coffee we've ever had. It came out in a wine glass with the cream settled on top like a mini Guinness. In all it was a lovely evening and we'll be back again and again.

Three of us went for early dinner, taking our own alcohol. I asked for a curry above Madras yet below Vindaloo in spiciness, and was recommended a very tasty dish from the menu cooked with extra spiciness - and it was absolutely right for me. Add some pilau rice & a chapati and I had a great meal. Everyone enjoyed their food, but the consensus was for four star rather than five, although at £36 for three meals you can't go far wrong!Have returned & will again. Try it!PS I do prefer the Stamford Bridge restaurant, but that is personal choice (& they do serve alcohol there!).

We visit here regularly. The staff are always polite and provide excellent service, even when they are very busy. This is one of my favourite Indian restaurants - the food is always very good quality, well cooked and they spice the food correctly and will do it to your liking if you ask.

We arrived and took our own wine as they don't have a bar or license for drinks, the waiters and staff are unbelievable and the food was some of the best I have eaten.

Found this place only by a friend who recommended it!After having my first take a way from there, I'm back nearly every week!The food is amazing and you can taste they only use fresh ingredients.I have tried many different dishes and keep on getting a Wow by them! The over bonus is apart from good food is, if you eat in, you can bring your own beer/ wine and they don't change a corkage fee..But you can't take in your own soft drinks, but rightly so..

Excellent meal. The restaurant was absolutely full because it is known to be one of the very best Asian restaurants in Yorkshire. Advisable to book in advance in the busy season if you want an early meal. I asked the owner to recommend a meal and he selected an excellent lamb dish that came in a dark rich sauce. Delicious!!

I have been to the sizzling plate a few times and always had fantastic food and even better service. Tonight I brought the family to celebrate my dads birthday, we had a fabulous time and received excellent service yet again, I would highly recommend, it is also excellent value for money. If you haven't been your missing out.
