Wouldn't trust these jokers with food. Owner banned for 10 YEARS from being a landlord (longest ever ban in the UK). Very, very greedy individual. Google 'Nilendu Das landlord'.

Me and my wife had dinner on the 8th of April 2023. We was visiting the area,so not local, but stumbled on this restaurant from the outside,looking absolutely amazing lovely,which we had to say ,we must try this place out. I have to say,it is one of the best curry houses we have visited. The food was awesome ,and the staff were excelent 🤗with service. The ambience of the place is nicecand cozy,with nice sitar music in the background ,feeling if you were in India. Only downside was , that we don't live in the area ,otherwise we would definitely visit this restaurant ,being in a hidden gem ,again. But for the locals ,if you want flavourful food ,nice atmosphere with service,the Varanasi is the one you should go to. Highly Recommended!!! All stars * all the way from start to finish.

I treated my family to a birthday meal in this hidden gem of a place in Crosspool, "The Varanasi",and couldn't have booked a better place.The meals were all excelent .All the staff were very friendly ,courteous(and patient)as we were spoilt for choice with the menu. On top of it all,I was given a birthday cake,with a fountain sparkler what a pleasant touch from the Varanasi staff. Definitely a return to this hidden gem of a place. I'm sure you won't be disappointed if you go there . Highly recommended 5* all the way. Well done 👍 Varanasi.

At the Varanasi Inn, you can get any curry PHALL strength. I got the PHALL, PHALL strength, and that's when things started to get hazy. This curry was intoxicating! I could not see. I drifted away and was lost in the clouds. I hadn't felt that way for ten years. Go here to be young again. Burning deep heat xoxox amen x See you upstairs ;)

I have been to Varanasi twice now, and both times were excellent. Whenever we are trying to decide where to go for our work meals now, Varanasi always cones up. The service is excellent, the food is incredible and it has a great atmosphere! In my top ten of some of the nicest Indian food I have ever eaten and quickly becoming one of my favourite restaurants in Sheffield. Excellent food, excellent service, fantastic atmosphere. Highly Recommended!!!

What a fantastic restaurant. If you want Indian food with a difference, this is the place for you. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and go so far to make your evening an enjoyable one. The food is so delicious, thst uou will not be disappointed with anything. From the spiced onions in with the pickle tray, with ur poppadoms, they were the best I ever tested. Mains were all excellent. Peshwari nan perfect 🥰, lovely and crispy. Beautiful restaurant with great staff, and excellent ambience, with light sitar music 🎶 in the background. I visited the Varanasi on a Saturday with my friends on a night out. It was an amazing experience,the food,the quality, the taste and the pricing all was excellent. The ambience is very welcoming and charming,with a cozy atmosphere. These guys are doing an amazing job. Beautiful restaurant with great staff and delicious 😋 😍 food. A must try if you haven't yet!!

I wanted to phone to order a takeaway but despite trying every minute for about 20 mins all I got was an answer machine with a message that gave no indication of whether they were open or not. I eventually ordered online and was pleased to see that there was a voucher code to give me 15% off- except that when I got to the end of the ordering process it told me the code had expired. When I picked my food up, the bhajis and dansak were lovely, the other items were average. The poppadoms however were awful. They tasted and smelt of old cooking oil and left an aftertaste. We could not eat them. Overall, it was a disappointing meal and seemed very expensive for what it was. We will find another Indian restaurant next time.

Be warned this place has a 1 star hygiene rating. Takeaway was poor on the meat, I wouldn't use them.

Ordered a takeaway as we’ve done many times. OMG the sauce provided to go with the chicken tikka. Bright green 😰 on tasting I can only liken to wasabi. Normally get a lovely yogurt sauce. Spoke with the restaurant. Didn’t seem bothered as we had been given free ! Popodoms. Won’t be ordering again

Always a lovely place for a great curry and wonderful service. The staff really care and make the most effort to look after you. Food is always so tasty and great value. And don’t forgot the upstairs bar with live entertainment !!!!

So at long last I finally visited the Varanasi after seeing the post about them, on Facebook and IG. I must say my visit exceeded my expectations, as the food was sensational, the decor and presentation was aesthetically 👌 ✨️ 😍 was pleasing. A brilliant experience in an amazing restaurant. The service was spectacular from the whole staff, from start to finish. The food has a wide range of distinct flavours, which sets it apart from the rest. It is one of the best Indian restaurants in Sheffield, and I've been in a few. We will visit again!!!. My friend decided to book a table for us at the Varanasi, because she loves it there, and I am so happy she did. The food is absolutely amazing and the staff was super atttentice and friendly. The ambiance is realy nice, with Indian music in the background. I had The chicken Bangalore as a main( big portion), with basmati rice, and a mango lassi. Ale was soo tasty and yummy!!!!!. Very highly recommend this place!!!!!

Always use for our Saturday night curry, been dealing with Ansar for many years when he was at Ambar on Ecclesall Road. Always friendly and professional staff, food is always top notch.

You are instantly greeted as you walk into the restaurant with friendly staff who will find you a nice table straight away. Inside is nice and clean with a vibrant atmospheres. Drinks were served ice cold,along with outstanding food. Excellent service, you won't be waiting long. There are many food restaurants in Sheffield. butbifbyou in the Crosspool area. and want high quality Indian food, then Varanasi is the place to go. We will be revisiting this place, as you should. Wanted to try my new local curry restaurant so ordered a £42 takeaway for two. The main courses were nice but everything else was bland and mediocre. Fish Pakora didn't taste of fish, Paratha tasteless and not flakey or crispy at all. For the price there are much better options.

The food,the service, the ambiance at the Varanasi all made for a wonderful dining experience. After many prior recommendations myself and a friend visited the Varanasi for dinner. The staff were lovely and very attentive. When our food arrived it did not disappoint. kudo yo the chef. The platter made for an exciting start for the meal sharing a mixed various of starters. Could not recommend highly enough and already looking forward to my next visit. 5 🌟 stars , from the start to all the way on this hidden gem of a place.

This is a beautiful restaurant. Ansar and Das, were the most caring and attentive host. Our evening started with a warm welcome, when we arrived, and then an absolute pleasant bottle of red wine, with poppadoms and the kick of pickles. The food was exceptional. the lamb Bangolore, a tender lamb dish, an exquisite 👌 😋 curry dish full of flavours, so succulent that the lamb just melted in my mouth. This is a must visit Restaurant, and must be number one in the whole of Sheffield.

Strange experience. Very friendly and attentive staff when we arrived, but at the end we struggled to get enough attention to ask for (and then pay) the bill. Understandable if busy, but we were the only ones there. We said "excuse me" twice as a staff member walked past us and completely acted liked nothing. Food was fine, good menu. I went to the Varanasi Inn with my Mum and we shared ordered a bit of everything which is an option on the menu. LOADS of food came out, all delicious, hot and refillable. My fiancé took me to this restaurant and I am extremely pleased with my visit. Me and a few businesses associates was looking for an Indian authentic curry house near the city Rutland in Sheffield. When we googled we found this gem of a place near to our hotel, it was the best curry house I have been outside India. The service was brilliant the manager Ansar was brilliant,very professional,and very helpful with the menu he told us what dishes to go for. We had a splendid time. Of course they advertised this boldly on their restaurant front at the start of Aug, but don't be fooled! Most of their menu is not applicable, they didn't mention this upon seating us. The only discount we got was on two naans, not even on the lassi! No pictures as we were too hungry by the time food arrived! Staff were not attentive and slow to pick up on the fact we had been waiting over 30 minutes for food....the pace only picked up after our query! This wasn't even a weekend. Their excuse was that they only have one chef in the kitchen - but like another customer verbally complained "don't take so many bookings then". We didn't get the garlic naan we requested, not sure how the order was noted wrong when we repeated it twice. On top of that they mixed up orders for other tables who had been waiting just as long....quite a shamble to overhear other disappointed customers too. That clearly had nothing to do with the chef, that was the fault of the waiter taking the order (didn't like the pushing blame). After a 45 minute wait our food came.....although the waiter apologised we don't think we will be back. We wanted a pleasant evening and to feel as though we found a nice curry house to support. But after a disappointingly long wait and below average service, we wouldn't recommend this restaurant. The wait time is just as long as a delivery so you may as well order take out and enjoy food from the comfort of your own home!
