Smash Corner, I will smash anyone who says these are not the best burgers in Minehead! After suffering a terrible defeat at the local elections, I decided to go for a holiday down by the seafront. Minehead, one of my favourite destinations. I loaded myself into my prized anti-aircraft cannon and fired myself across the Bristol Channel from Llantwit Major. As I was hurtling through the air at 200mph (a speed that would kill anybody who wasn't an immortal wizard), I had just enough time to think about the world. Where was Cedric these days? Last I heard he'd been arrested for stealing a clown car. His getaway plan fell apart. Does the Pontardawe Inn miss me? Probably... I wonder why I never got a reply? I finished my thoughts just in time to see the quay at the end of Minehead and deploy my parachute. The parachute was made of seagull feathers held together with the elastic from my mother's knickers. I landed with a little bit of a thud on the beach; some people looked a little confused. "Do not fear! Bernard LeCox is here!" I exclaimed excitedly as I dusted off the sand from my green peacock feather cape. A small child was crying, so I said, "Fear not, young child. I am Bernard LeCox. I am here to rid your town of terrible food!" I marched, a man on a mission, up the main high street. It was then that a smell came to my nostrils. My march turned into a sprint as I followed the scent to an open-fronted cafe, Smash Corner. I was famished and ordered. I ordered a Pedro's Burger and a Double Classic Smash Burger. I spoke to the pleasant owner, who was very proud of his fresh produce and how everything he used was fresh. How he and his wife set up the business as a Hungarian bakery but when the opportunity to expand arose, they took the bull by the horns (Something I know all about, as I used to be a Spanish bullfighter, Manuel DeLaCox. Didn't end well. It's why to this day I have a phobia of red underwear). When my burgers arrived, I sat down and opened the boxes. Wow. What amazing food, and the smell was outstanding. Tender burger. Creamy cheese sauce. Crispy bacon. Sweet brioche bun. My one and only criticism is that the steak was a little tough. Not inedible, just compared to the brilliance of the rest of the burger, a little let down. I thanked the owner for a delicious meal and moved on, looking for my next stop on my Minehead excursion. This is the Cafe that used to be 'Mortimers' so was keen to see if the slow service had improved......it has! Attentive staff and plain but very good food served quickly and in a friendly different atmosphere. Well done! New Owners ! We will, and already have, been back !

After a visit to the Valley of Rocks, we needed a light lunch - this was the perfect choice! A very warm welcome, especially for our dog. Friendly service, tasty food and fine coffee. Highly recommended.

Amanda did all the catering for my birthday celebrations in Woolavington, Bridgwater, and she really did me proud. Amanda guided me towards an easily managed menu suitable for all ages ranging from 2 to 95 years. It worked perfectly. Friday night's hot meal on was followed the next day by a hot buffet (chicken provencal, cottage pie and dauphinoise potatoes), salads, a wonderful lemon meringue pie, huge chocolate cake, breads, sausage rolls, large quiche and much more. The really generous portions fed 20 adults and 6 children with left overs. The food was much-praised with the outstanding comment came from one young granddaughter who can be rather choosy. Having asked who made the cottage pie she declared it to be the best she had ever had - praise indeed. I would not hesitate to recommend Amanda and her catering. Thank you.

A new favourite. Spotlessly clean, welcoming & friendly staff, excellent food at great value - what more can you want? Just off the high street, but definitely worth looking for. We are regular visitors to Minehead, and we can see why this is very popular with locals. Staff were very caring about making sure people's orders were correct. We had the soup which was delicious. Will return for cakes soon.

We stayed one night in a gorgeous sea view room. We dined like kings, the food & drink exquisite, mostly local & homegrown. We shall be back!

Fantastic little tea room. We had an amazing and light cheese scone and donut. I highly recommend visiting if you are in Dunster and want tea and cake!

Absolutely the best gluten free cream tea in Somerset! The staff are friendly and helpful, catering for both coeliac and nut allergies with a focus on separating allergens.

Lovely hotel in a quiet, picturesque location and a comfortable room with a great view over the weir and a great shower thrown in. The food was delicious, especially the exmoor breakfast and wood fired pizzas. The staff were helpful and friendly. Ideally situated for fantastic walks on the South West Coastal path and Porlock, Minehead and Lynmouth not far away. Cost for 3 nights winter break was fairly reasonable. Highly recommended... Update #1 - No change, same high standards of everything, this time for an Easter 4 night break. So peaceful and relaxing, warm and inviting. We'll be back again soon, which for us will be an unprecedented 3rd visit... Highly recommended 5 stars...

The Castle of Comfort is an incredible place.

We were so looking forward to staying here again this year. We’ve stayed before on a few occasions as our parents live here and we travel from the Highlands to visit. I just wish we’d read the reviews before we booked again; we booked due to our past stays and thought it would be the same experience. Sadly not. The room was clean for sure but there is no decent breakfast, they only offer cooked options on the weekend if the chef actually shows up, the “ continental breakfast” they offer is self service dry croissants, folded pack ham with chunks of cheese in a mini fridge and a wee kettle to prepare your own coffee. Oh and a bowl of questionable fruit. The atmosphere is NIL. 3 times I spoke to them about dinner reservations and still it wasn’t booked for our family of 6 on the night. The menu is uninspiring and very little for a vegetarian diet and they ask that you preorder your meal during the day so I suspect your meal isn’t fresh at dining time and the restaurant shuts at 8pm the bar was all shut up by 9pm and the place in darkness. We cancelled our dinner reservation and ate elsewhere in Kilve. The previous owners Carol & Julie are sorely missed and it saddens me greatly that all the years of work, love and commitment they put into making the castle of comfort the fantastic hotel it was had all gone to waste. We paid £160 B&B - vastly overpriced, no value for money just not enjoyable anymore and it stinks of fried food. There is no one to meet you, greet you. We dangled about for ages trying to check out, we could have simply walked out. Needless to say, we won’t be coming again and won’t be recommending it to others, my other family members won’t be coming back either.

Had cornish pasty and a sausage roll with a tub of olives and mixed salad. Lovely fresh food and very tasty. Would highly recommend
