Castle Coffee House in West Somerset

Lovely friendly welcome, clean and well appointed little coffee house, coffee was perfectly made and good value, selection of cakes was good and we tried 2 different types both were delicious. Good value and great service. Highly recommended if you’re in Dunster.

Quite simply the best homemade cakes I've ever eaten. The coffee is also so smooth and delicious. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, a perfect stop for a little indulgence.

Lovely cafe with friendly welcoming staff, perfect latte and homemade pistachio doughnuts. A return visit is definitely a must. Highly recommended 👌

What can I say except THANK YOU, after an earlier disappointment, we were looking for somewhere in Dunster to celebrate my birthday. We came across this beautiful, cosy welcoming coffee house. The owner was friendly and made us feel very welcome. The clotted cream scones were homemade and went down a treat with a nice cup of tea. Please support this local independent business and you will not be disappointed.

Quaint tea room with friendly staff. Big mugs of coffee and the cakes looked delicious. Hot chocolate was ok.

This is a pleasant 'tea rooms' style cafe. We, a group of six, found two tables to push together. There was a good selection of cakes, etc, which those who partook enjoyed. The staff were friendly and engaging. The seating was ok but not very comfortable. For a cold day it was surprising that the establishment were keen keep the door open. There is a toilet for customers.

Called in for coffee & a couple of delicious cheese scones. Lovely welcome. Lovely setting and very good value for money. Next time we are in Dunster, this will be our ‘go to’ coffee stop.

We dropped in after a visit to the castle. The owner was their and we had a lovely chat. She bakes everything on the the premises. We had the apple crumble and a delicious slice. Our cappuccinos were perfect (and hot). The decor suits the space perfectly; curved farmhouse chairs and wooden tables. We would recommend the castle Coffee House to anyone visiting Dunster.

Dropped in here on Sunday for a tea and coffee and some cake. This is just the sort of place I like. The owner/staff seem to genuinely welcome customers -I know all cafes should, but they don't. Comfortable surroundings. Very nice tea and coffee and a great selection of cakes. Ours was delicious. We'll be going back and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Our only regret is that my husband and I didn't have the opportunity to visit Olivia's coffee house until the last day of our holiday! Unfortunately, by 4pm she had sold all of her daily-baked scones but we happily devoured a home baked tea cake and a chocolate & oat cookie with a pot of tea, which were delicious. Olivia not only bakes herself daily but attends her customers personally. She is very pleasant and hard working which is reflected in the friendly and efficient table service she provides. We'll be back to see her much earlier on our next holiday to Dunster!

I visited Dunster with friends and after a lovely walk around the castle we stopped off at this lovely coffee shop. We had pots of tea and coffee plus a scone and amazing coconut cream donuts. All wonderful. Service was brilliant too. Highly recommended.

I had such a good takeaway coffee, I took the family back and we all had tea/coffee/hot chocolate and cake. Everything was amazing, especially the lemon cake - which is perhaps the best cake I have ever had! Lovely chat with owner about the vintage, and amazing, coffee machine!

From outside it looked closed but having tried the door, realised it was open. Received a warm welcome on entry. Food was good but sadly no hot meals were on the menu but homemade cheese scone ploughman's was delicious.

The owners have sourced old wooden chairs for the cafe, they are so comfortable, beets all this new stuff. They even have a very large Chair Encyclopaedia that is well worth a look. Luvly cake and coffee.

A traditional village coffee shop, used by both locals, and visitors. Small space, very intimate, with low ceiling, wooden tables & chairs and a wooden floor. Excellent, friendly service, by people that obviously care for their clientele. Offered useful information on what to do and how to find local facilities. Home made cakes to delight every taste (I had an amazing salted caramel chocolate brownie). Good prices. Very clean toilets; and there is a baby changing facity as well. I'd definitely use this coffee shop again if I was in the area.

Owner was lovely, son really enjoyed the home made choc brownie and the mocha was amazing much better than the auto pod machines (real batista machine). Will definitely stop in again for a rest near the wood burner again.

A superb place with outstanding homemade cakes and excellent coffee. A rare treat to find somewhere where the terms ‘ delicious and homemade’ mean exactly that. Very pleasing, tasteful furnishing too. Dunster is lucky to have this cafe.

We visited Castle Coffee Shop for its opening day and we would highly recommend. The space is beautifully decorated, the coffee was great and locally sourced and I’d highly recommend the home made lemon drizzle cake! Look forward to visiting again!

We stopped for lunch after a visit to the castle. With the Covid restrictions the main room was not open but the covered garden area was lovely. We were served by very cheerful staff. All Covid measures were in place and followed. I had the cottage pie and my wife had the lasagna. The portions size was very good and the flavour excellent. We followed with scones with jam and cream again very good.Dogs are also catered for.

Following our visit to Dunster Castle we stopped here for a cream tea, the cafe is very quirky set in a small courtyard but that gives it a bit of character. The cream teas were nice and the staff very friendly.

We ordered Somerset cream tea for 2 with a latte and earl grey tea.Girls were friendly and helpful.When the cream tea arrived my partner and I both looked at each other...in the west country the main part of a cream tea is in the title ...CREAM!!There was 2 scones each which were lovely but the cream came in the same size dish as the jam and that wasn't huge! There was just enough for 2 scones so we had to ask for more cream and this time the dish was half the size!.If the owner has a problem with cream portions then I think he needs to look at putting the price up a little.While we were there 10 people came in, sat on 2 tables 9/10 ordered cream teas and then all hell let loose...the staff couldn't work out how many scones they needed and realised they didnt have enough so someone set to bake some more, the girls couldn't work out the drinks ...it was all a bit chaotic.We paid our bill and to completely finish us off they overcharged us.They really do need to get sorted before the season starts properly...there are lots of tea rooms in Dunster and I'm sorry to say we wont be returning!!

Compact and bijou this little eatery was warm and welcoming when our family of five dropped in for a quick lunch on Saturday.The service was extremely prompt given that the food was cooked to order and I can heartily recommend the all day breakfast which was beautifully cooked and generous especially washed down with a good cup of hot filter coffee.Others in our party enjoyed home-cooked Cottage Pie and Burger meals all finished off with relish!Our dog was also made welcome with a couple of doggie treats though she clearly fancied a nibble of the toddler at the next table (our apologies to the couple and their child)The bill was a very reasonable £35 and we didn't need to eat again for the rest of the day!

A great spot for lunch if you’re in Dunster. Managed to accommodate my party of 5 adults and 6 children despite its tiny size. Delicious food and lovely staff.

The lady made us feel so welcome. We were able to take our dogs in and they were well looked after with a bowl of water, doggy treats and nice strokes! The food was good and reasonably priced. Will certainly make a return visit.

A lovely traditional coffee house, we went twice in one weekend. Owner was very friendly. Ploughman's lunch was plentiful and the breakfast spot on. All the menu was very, very, very reasonably priced for saying it was right outside the castle. We were able to book for breakfast.

We had a baby in a pushchair and young child with us and were welcomed in, high chair quickly provided and chairs moved to fit in pushchair. Order taken quickly and the waitress apologised for a twenty minute wait even though we expected this as it was very busy. Child’s food was brought out first so this could be sorted out before we had ours. Food was very good and presented well. Would recommend

We visited 12th October for breakfast. We were the only customers when we arrived, the staff were welcoming and the chef came out and chatted with us. We both ordered a full English and were not disappointed, it was tasty, cooked well and hit the spot. Price was very good.We will return if in Dunster again. Thank you Castle Coffee House.

Couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly. Modest prices but nothing modest about the food which was excellent. Home cooked and delicious. We wouldn’t hesitate to go there again.

My husband and I visited Dunster earlier this year for a day out on our honeymoon and absolutely fell in love with the place. We spent a wonderful few hours exploring the area and decided to stop for something to eat at the Castle Coffee House before we continued our exploration. Well...it was quite simply the cherry on top of what had already been the best day. We ordered two brie, bacon and cranberry baguettes followed by a cream tea each and it was all absolutely delicious. The service was second to none and the little courtyard we sat in to eat was filled with so many flowers and such beautiful cheery decor, it was just stunning. Extremely good value too, we highly recommend. Can't wait to come back!

After visiting the castle we went to castle coffee house and weren't disappointed. The staff were lovely and friendly we could also take our dog in, sat in the garden courtyard with our cream teas and sandwiches. Highly recommended !!!

We have been visiting Dunster for the past 14 years and make a point of stopping in for a cream tea, the homemade scones were delicious, service and welcome excellent and kids always enjoy their chocolate milkshakes.

We stopped here after a wonder around Dunster Castle. The cream tea we had was so yummy, the scones were really light. Lots of jam and lots of cream. Staff really friendly and helpful. Would definitely return

Enjoyed a lovely lunch here after a morning stomping around the Castle grounds. We sat in the covered courtyard garden, which has a bohemian feel to it- full of colourful flowers but not a wasp in sight!

Food and service was outstanding. Nice house wine, great burger and the best scampi I’ve ever had. Returning tomorrow!

Very helpful staff, varied menu, we sat in the conservatory outside space which was surrounded by beautiful pots of flowers and a running water brook. The meal was cooked fresh and very tasty and the staff friendly and efficient. Very reasonably priced. A very nice coffeehouse to visit when in Dunster.

We dropped in here for coffee and cake and I can well see why most reviewers gave it five stars. Good coffee but somehow they lost part of our order for a toasted teacake - twice. I think there was a confusion among the staff as another table had a similar order but anyway it took two prompts to sort it all out.

We visited on a damp Sunday afternoon and were tempted by the apple pie. The home made pie was delicious and served with a generous scoop of clotted cream (not a plastic pot served by most establishments). Helpful and smiling staff gave a nice atmosphere.

Being on a short holiday break in nearby Doniford, my wife and I and two friends visited Dunster Castle but decided to call in for a coffee in the High Street first. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the coffee really was good and tasty. It certainly gave us a good start to the day and we left feeling very satisfied and happy.

Myself, 3 daughters and small grandson visited the Castle Coffee Shop today, Wow, we were amazed at the friendly welcome we received as it was getting late in the day, we thought we would be limited on what we could have from the menu, but No the staff went out of their way to offer us a wonderful menu with a fantastic choice of food "what a wonderful Mint and Lamb Suet pudding" i might add :) The diet went completely out the window. Thank you for a very memorable meal we will certainly be returning !

Myself and husband stopped for lunch yesterday and had the daily specials of lasagne and cottage pie. They were both delicious and a bargain price of £6.50 each. I then had apple pie with ice cream for £3.50 which again was delicious. They were all homemade and the chef actually bought an extra jug of gravy out for the cottage pie, even though there was already plenty on the plate, as he said he always liked a lot. They are licensed so you can have wine/beer. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. I just wished we lived closer as we’d be there every week. Thank you so much Castle Coffee House.

Good home cooked food reasonably priced. Friendly, amenable staff happy to help. Liked the smiley toast. Situated close to Dunster Castle. Good place to take a break before doing the gardens or house or visa verca.

What a lovely little cafe. We walked in close to 1 o’clock a luckily there was a free table. We were welcomed by a friendly waitress who let us settle and then came over to take our order. 2 baguettes and a child’s chicken bites. Our food came out in a very reasonable length of time and looked lovely and fresh. Portion size was good too. The service was very polite and welcoming. If we visit Dunster again we’ll certainly try and eat here for a second time.

Visited for lunch today. A very warm welcome on arrival. Can't fault the food. Very nice large portion of homemade lasagne. Garlic bread and chips on the side. Next time we are in the area we will be back..
