We were so looking forward to staying here again this year. We’ve stayed before on a few occasions as our parents live here and we travel from the Highlands to visit. I just wish we’d read the reviews before we booked again; we booked due to our past stays and thought it would be the same experience. Sadly not. The room was clean for sure but there is no decent breakfast, they only offer cooked options on the weekend if the chef actually shows up, the “ continental breakfast” they offer is self service dry croissants, folded pack ham with chunks of cheese in a mini fridge and a wee kettle to prepare your own coffee. Oh and a bowl of questionable fruit. The atmosphere is NIL. 3 times I spoke to them about dinner reservations and still it wasn’t booked for our family of 6 on the night. The menu is uninspiring and very little for a vegetarian diet and they ask that you preorder your meal during the day so I suspect your meal isn’t fresh at dining time and the restaurant shuts at 8pm the bar was all shut up by 9pm and the place in darkness. We cancelled our dinner reservation and ate elsewhere in Kilve. The previous owners Carol & Julie are sorely missed and it saddens me greatly that all the years of work, love and commitment they put into making the castle of comfort the fantastic hotel it was had all gone to waste. We paid £160 B&B - vastly overpriced, no value for money just not enjoyable anymore and it stinks of fried food. There is no one to meet you, greet you. We dangled about for ages trying to check out, we could have simply walked out. Needless to say, we won’t be coming again and won’t be recommending it to others, my other family members won’t be coming back either.

Our second visit to the Castle of Comfort. It's a great place to stay with lovely staff members and owners. They were so helpful and accommodating. They welcomed us with cake and refreshments. And the meals were first class. The Hotel is clean and decorated in keeping with the history of the property which is very interesting. The gardens are beautiful. Thank you to everyone. We will be back.

I cannot fault this place. Friendly as soon as you arrive and throughout your stay. Complimentary tea and cake in the lovely garden upon arrival and nothing is too much trouble. This is a dog friendly place and our two little Yorkies had a whale of a time running around the 4 acres. Breakfast was exceptional, fills you up for the day. Everything so clean and spotless all around the building and grounds. Nice sized bathroom with large walk in shower. Complimentary sherry in your room each day as well as a 'chambre en service' - tea, coffee, biscuits, sweets, nuts! We'll be back!

Having stayed at the Castle ten years ago en route to Cornwall and loved it we reprised the stopover last week on our way to Paul Ainsworth's, Padstow. Our one night here was FAULTLESS... Super welcome from the most delightful young lady who attended to our needs throughout - excellent "arrival" cake (choice of four!) and teas then a beautifully presented and most tasty evening meal at an excellent price - breakfast offered an amazing choice, the quality of which was stunning. Cleanliness second to none and the comfort living up to the titular moniker! JUST WONDERFUL!!!

This was our second visit to the area. Previously we had been put off by the name, The Castle of Comfort! Seemed a bit pretentious. However, this time round we thought we'd give it a try. And it turned out to be excellent in all respects. The bar and restaurant are very pleasant comfortable rooms. The menu offers a limited but varied choice of straightforward dishes. None of those highfalutin' dishes with ten or more ingredients, several of which you've never heard of! Our waitress, Ingrid, was lovely, very friendly and served us with just the right level of efficiency. And the food? It was excellent! Unusually we both had three courses and enjoyed all of them. They were well prepared and presented and, where appropriate, served piping hot. My dessert of Meringue and Summer Fruits was described by me as a vertical Eton Mess and was delicious! Would we go back? You bet!! Perhaps to stay this time. We had a wonderful evening.

A Lovely place to find. The layout and service was very good. As were the pre-dinner cocktails and aperitifs. The starter was superb. However, the Christmas meal (turkey) was a bit like a school dinner. Vegetables were fine, as were the roast potatoes, but the meat looked and tasted like it was from a packet. Shame - everything else was SO good.

An absolute gem of a place in every way. Could market themselves as "boutique" hotel "gastro" pub but chose not to. Highlights for us were:- - Setting right on Quantock AONB hills - High-quality rooms, (jus 8 I think). - Family run. Independent. - Wonderful 4-course breakfasts with local ingredients - The Dinners are wonderful. Home-cooked. Individual 3 course menu each day. - Very pretty outdoor heated swimming pool set in lovely grounds. - Fantastic base for biking, walking (safe storage for bike) - Good location for trips out, coast, cheddar, Wookey, etc A superb place for 3-7 day break. If you catch a week with good weather it feels like your own private villa .... but with meals provided. Outstanding. If you call them they are very helpful. Advice, Juggling rooms etc.

Came here on a very wet day. We entered the place dripping wet, but we were welcomed by a lady with a warm and welcoming smile and chat. We were ushered into a very spacious and comfy room where the lady took our order for tea and cakes. We didn't have to wait long before the refreshments came and again these came with a very friendly attitude. There were two other couples there having tea and we got talking to one couple who were staying at the place, and loved every minute of their stay. I must admit the whole ambience of the place, its décor and cleanliness did invite a lengthier visit, and we couldn't help comparing it with our rather mundane caravan accommodation! We thoroughly enjoyed our tea which was really nicely presented with bone china cups and plates, and a lovely large teapot. The cake was delicious too (I had lemon drizzle cake which was lovely and lemony and very light). At the end of our visit we reluctantly got up and left this 'castle of comfort' which lives up to its name in every way. Will certainly revisit on another holiday.

The Castle of Comfort serves, broadly speaking, good quality 'pub grub', and I don't mean that in any disparaging way. The food was really very good, and not wildly expensive. There was a good wine list, too, with some interesting selections on offer. A particular high-point for me was the sheer quality of the tablecloths and napkins on our table. The whole thing was beautifully and carefully laid out - wonderful to see in this day and age of plain wood tables and paper napery.

We were on holiday in a nearby cottage and the Castle of Comfort was recommended to us by the local butcher. It's a lovely boutique hotel and, having checked the menu on-line, it looked very impressive. And it was, by a considerable distance, the best meal we had on holiday. Three courses for £30, we all started with the scallops, which were perfectly cooked, then my daughters and I went for the fillet of beef with stilton sauce while my wife tried the duck. Again, all were excellent. Desserts were also very impressive, the chocolate terrine. The welcome was warm and friendly, the service excellent, and a decent reasonable priced wine list plus excellent local beers. The produce is also sourced locally where possible. A lovely experience and we would definitely visit again if we were in the area, quite possibly taking the opportunity to stay over in one of the rooms next time.

Sorry its late but this needed to be sent.Thank you for a very warm and much appreciated welcome, you and the girls were a warm welcome to two very tired peopleWe had just moved house and was relocating in Devon, we needed a midway stop over with the dogs.We were late arriving and very tired, the owner wanted to keep the kitchen open for us as she knew we hadn't eaten during the day due to the move. .The dogs were very well catered for as well, the room was perfect. Even though it was raining during the night, there was a small entrance hall to the room which allowed us to de-kit and wipe the dogs down befote entering the room.Breakfast was to die for, we were provided with one of the nicest breakfasts that I've had in a long long time and most certainly set us up for the next part of the move... unloading the lorry.I'm sorry we got chance to say thank you, but hope that this goes a little towards showing our appreciation.

Beautiful surroundings and food was tasty and cooked exactly to our individual likes. The pancakes were light and the contrast of sweet toffee sauce and the slight sharpness of the apple made it a perfect sweet. It was lovely to finish off the meal with a coffee and a chat in the lounge in comfy chairs finished off a wonderful evening.

This was a spontaneous stop on looking for a quiet cream tea.The tea, scones, clotted cream and selection of three jams were very enjoyable. The place is going through the final stages of a refurbishment ready for the coming season. Despite this the atmosphere was quiet and dignified. The restaurant looked very pleasant and will be tried on another occasion as the menu looked enticing.

We booked in at the Castle of comfort to break up a journey from Milton Keynes to St Austell. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with a smile and an offer of a drink in the lounge area. For once it makes a change not to be asked to produce a credit card before you do anything. We stayed in a superior room and it was lovely, nicely decorated and worthy of the title. The one night stay was excellent. The menu wasn't extensive but the quality of the food was very good. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and then a walk round the garden finished it off. Certainly worthy of a visit as your heading South!

We called in for cream tea on a lovely Sunday afternoon, and what a treat it was. Every kind of tea or coffee was on offer (we had Darjeeling, Peppermint and plain) and then a feast of scones, clotted cream (local) and three types of jam (all made on the premises) - we could have had a choice of all sorts of cakes as well, but the scones were superb and we had loads of them. And all for £5 each! We sat outside and enjoyed the wonderful gardens. An all round delightful experience which I will be repeating when I can.

I have stayed a few times at the Castle of Comfort while on business and each time I have been met with a very warm and friendly welcome. The rooms are very comfy, well laid out and are equipped with everything you would expect and then plenty of extras that you dont expect. The food whether it be breakfast or evening meal is outstanding, the quality of the food being served is exceptional and the service is second to none. Although just set back from the main road there is no disturance from traffic and I would definately recommend staying in this delightful place.

This is about 6 miles outside of Bridgwater and is slightly set back from the main road. I had a double room situated overlooking the garden. Greeting was friendly and bedroom was lovely with all the expected standards plus a carafe of sherry in the room! I didn't eat dinner but had breakfast which was lovely with good produce. I can recommend this place for anyone who would like a comfortable overnight or weekend stay. Good base for discovering Exmoor.

We always stop here for a coffee on our way to Exmoor. Excellent service and lovely surroundings yet friendly and welcoming and no more expensive than a coffee shop. On a nice day you can sit in the garden for a coffee or cream tea.

The single room was small but well equipped and comfortable with a good view and early morning sunshine. The owners were friendly and the pool would be a real advantage in the summer.

Old building, lots of character, very very very comfortable beds, excellent shower in my room, my brother had a bath in his which looked fabulous. Sheets towels bathrobe all excellent quality.Tea and coffe making faciites in room with great selection of teas and biscuits, nuts even hot choclate and sherry! Windy stairs, so bear in mind if you find stairs a problem. Lovely grounds to walk round in summer. Outdoor pool which looked reasonable size but not v picturesque as surrouned by large mesh fence..guess for safety resons to stop toddlers getting in. No gym but bar room with selection of games and comfy sofas. Lovely dining room and very good food! Great cook! Small vegetarian selection on menu but still enough, good portion sizes and reasonably priced and it tasted great! But what made this place special was the service. The owners and all staff very welcoming, went out of their way to be helpful. Served us v late in bar one night, gave us info about the local area, heated the water in middle of the day when we needed to shower early, let us store our bikes in their out building and were ready with a puncture repair kit if needed. Nothing seemed too much trouble. In fact I left my pyjamas behind in my room by accident and they went out of their way to contact me about it and then posted them back to me free of charge!I would highly recommend this inn and suggest you eat there when you stay.

Amagical and memorable eating experience conjured up by hosts Carol and Nigle Venner in an idyllic setting of 17th century inn at the foot of the beautifulQuantock Hills. I have eaten at many top restaurants and hotels, from the Ivy to the Ritz in London and some very good places in Somerset, but none can match the excellence of the cuisine on offer at the Castle of Comfort. Everything from the ambience, to the sparkling cleanliness, cheerful and attentive service adds to the joy of a visit to this brillioant establishment situated on the A39 at Dodington, between Bridgwater and Minehead. Don't deprive yourselves a second longer folk.

Amanda did all the catering for my birthday celebrations in Woolavington, Bridgwater, and she really did me proud. Amanda guided me towards an easily managed menu suitable for all ages ranging from 2 to 95 years. It worked perfectly. Friday night's hot meal on was followed the next day by a hot buffet (chicken provencal, cottage pie and dauphinoise potatoes), salads, a wonderful lemon meringue pie, huge chocolate cake, breads, sausage rolls, large quiche and much more. The really generous portions fed 20 adults and 6 children with left overs. The food was much-praised with the outstanding comment came from one young granddaughter who can be rather choosy. Having asked who made the cottage pie she declared it to be the best she had ever had - praise indeed. I would not hesitate to recommend Amanda and her catering. Thank you.

First time using bapmobile since it changed hands, absolutely fantastic service and the food was amazing. I called them up to place my order, I was told to make my way down in 10/15 minutes. When I arrived the food was pretty much ready. The lad that served me was very polite. The food was absolutely beautiful, I had the cheese and bacon burger with onions. Food was piping hot and was to die for. I for sure can definitely recommend bapmobile.I will 100% be using bapmobile in the very near future. We'll done mate keep doing what you are doing 👍

What a find!! Can not recommend this Tea Room highly enough. We’ve had lots of cream teas over the years, but Bramdowns is the best ever. The homemade scones were amazing. The service was first class and so friendly. The decor and the crockery are lovely, also with the music in the background you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Thoroughly enjoyed it, so much more than just a cream tea. Long May you continue, Ladies. Next time we’re passing by Porlock, Bramdowns, is a definite stop off.

We stopped here for breakfast on the way to Lynmouth and what a breakfast it was. We had the small breakfast which consisted of egg, bacon, sausage, tomato and beans which were thoughtfully served in a ramekin dish rather than the sauce running wild all over the plate. Everything was yummy and cooked to perfection. It would have been a ....sin to leave without tasting one of the cakes in display at the counter and so we did and I believe it was a carrot cake which was delicious (soft, moist and tasty). The coffee was good too. The staff were very welcoming, the place was beautifully decorated and spotless and so were the toilets

Great cafe in the heart of Dulverton offering a good selection of food and cakes. Would recommend booking a table at peek times.
