Best fish and chips - highly recommended ❤️👍 large haddock was a large Haddock And- they do Pea Fritters ❤️👍 With all fish and chip shops these days sadly I beleive they use factory produced seed oils , which oxidise, rather than beef tallow as in the past ( for obvious fashionable reasons ) but most don’t know or are not concerned about this - as not much knowledge re seed oils - However, still Simply the Best fish and chips around

Tried it again. I really dont understsnd tge good reviews. Chips tasteless, sausages digusting, chicken so dry overcoohed the skin dark brown in colour, fish very thin and small. Did not enjoy most went in the bin ........................................................................ Went back again today. Had 45 minute wait for sausage and chips plus curry sauce teice. Managed to get my order wrong. They were busy, three people working one went out on deliveries, another who was serving kept leaving to answer the phone. They had a big delivery order but did not tell people when placing their orders. chips not ready had to wait for them to be cooked which made the wait longer as there was a five minute wait just for chips. When I did get my order home chips was on the small side as though they were trying to make the chips last longer. Young lad behind counter could not multi task stood by the microwave waiting for peas, curry sauce etc to heat rather than continuing to make up other orders. The chef was not demonstrative enough she provided no guidance to the lad on what he should be doing. This is a good business but customers are not the priority as young staff are employed many who have no urgency or a welcoming approach just can I help you (very automatic). Stipulates it has been in the top 3 for fish and chips for the last three years. Wondering if buying a heap of newspapers and asking customers to vote for them has something to do with it? The owner needs to employ more pro active employees who can lead and prioritise. Firstly collection customers come before telephone orders. We had to wait several minutes for the lad to take the phone call there was no one else to make up orders. When you have a shop with ten or more people waiting to be served the telephone should have been ignored.

The Crown Hotel Pub was a disappointment for drinks and a meal that me, my wife and brother in law had recently. For our second round, I stood at the bar for five minutes and was ignored. Other patrons who came up to the bar after me were served. Finally, I went back to our table and my wife went up and was served. She handled all of our interactions henceforth with the bar maid ie. drinks and ordering food etc. When our food arrived, I was not given utensils or servettes to eat my food. Luckily, I just ordered chunky chips and so I ate them with my fingers. Unfortunately some had rotten bits to it. Needless to say we will never come back. however (don’t despair) there is a fantastic traditional English pub down the High Street which I would highly recommend. They have great staff, drinks, atmosphere and a very friendly manager who chatted to us about football and we even petted his dog. I suppose if you are a local and you come in you will be greeted warmly and served first. Beware the weary travelor seeking a meal and lodging (?). You will have to “bully” your way at the bar and if you sit down expect to be ignored. When you do get your food you can also expect a cursory check on how things are going. Speak up if you have an issue. No parking was apparent to us. Maybe around back. Dunno? And really don’t want to know!

We had my mums wake at The British Queen this week. We told them that there would be possibly 70+ people. On arrival sign was wrong, our guests were entering a room that was actually holding another wake. Then we was put in a room that was so small it barely held 20 people. The food was placed here, the food was very sub par and mostly cheap and not even well presented to be honest. We were queuing out the front as the main bar area had general public having their lunches, there was a beer garden and thankfully it was nice weather so I asked if we could use the disabled access as not everyone can get into the room and was told the disabled access is blocked and would take 45 mins plus to clear (surely that’s illegal to have disabled access but not able to use it?). I just don’t understand why there was not a private function notice up to the public or the wakes booked surely should have been just one? If we’d know before what the situation would have been we’d of had the wake elsewhere that was more functional for our party, The response from staff was basically a tough! We’ve had over 100 people here before. It was quiet upsetting tbh, as most of the family had travelled and do not live in Eastbourne, after having such a lovely service at Eastbourne crematorium and not having the wake as functioning as possible for such a large crowd was so disheartening.

Really tasty, well presented food. The usual pub classics plus a few different options. We chose Lamb Wellington & Moroccan Meatballs as our mains, really good. Very friendly staff & dog friendly which was great. Lovely old pub interior not the usual tarted up decor which seems to be everywhere now. We'll definitely return.

Spectacular setting floor to ceiling windows overlooking acres of vineyardsJust outside the medieval charming town of Alfriston it is a long drive to Tasting Room - the kind of entry one is used to in the great vineyard restaurants of Adelaide Hills Margaret River in Australia and Franschoek and Stellenbosch in South AfricaWe did feel we were transported to these countries but such good news for UK as there is little in the way of this in Bordeaux To cap it off the food was eclectic and creative - the gazpacho was topped with iberico ham and floating chorizo croquettes - an acknowledgement to this real Spanish dish. The courgette floor as a main was interesting stuffed with buffalo cheese and other accompaniments such a violet artichoke. The three course menu at £37 good value As there are a limited number of tables it is necessary to book well in advance We will nee backThe chef gained Michelin star at his previous restaurant so he comes here with a reputationTo cap it off the sparkling wines are exceptional - elegant and lingering taste

Poppy and the team gave us a wonderful evening tonight. Responsive and observant, nothing was too much trouble. Great menu knowledge and perfect food recommendations. Thank you Poppy! Compliments to the kitchen too as the food was impeccable. Incredibly fresh, fragrant and beautifully presented. Portion sizes were generous. Whole evening was a complete Treat.

Welcoming and helpful. We came to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We found good cooking and attentive waiting, making a very pleasant atmosphere. We had the five courses and enjoyed them all. The wild garlic was delicious with the creme fraiche. Both the tartare options were excellent, the Cornish mackerel worked very well with the saffron and mussel chowder. The leek terrine dish, while tasty, was not a total success as the leeks were very slightly underdone; their texture did not quite work with the goat's cheese and truffle dressing. The panna cotta and rhubarb dish was perfect. We also enjoyed both the red and the white wine, the excellent Bacchus from Winklestone. A memorable evening for our celebration, thank you to all.

Just popped to the restaurant while I was having some work done on my vehicle nearby - the breakfast and service was lovely, and it was pretty peaceful as I got there just as they opened. Would highly recommend :-)
