We are holidaying in the area & decided to try this restaurant as we had driven past several times. What a treat! The food was absolutely delicious & the portion sizes were generous. We were a party of 4 adults including one in a wheelchair & accessibility was no problem. Quite frankly I think the food is better than our local Indian restaurant.

The food was nice. We ordered three different curries. Chicken tikka masala, a lamb Korai and a chicken tikka dansak. (With pilau rice and peshwari naan). Some of the tubs of Currys didn't come completely full which was a bit of a shame but they tasted nice. The lamb came in very small cubes as well rather than being nice big pieces. Everything was boiling hot and fresh. This won't be my new regular Indian though.

We thought we had the best Indian restaurant on our doorstep ie The Royal, Hailsham but decided we’d try The Eastern Promise. Wow, totally different and menu had many unknown dishes but we’ll return until we’ve tried them all. All I can really say is they were a delight from my booking call to them wishing us goodnight. Nice restaurant, we had chicken tikka starter which I think wasn't cooked in the tandoor as it had no colour to it and was very moist, my partner had vegetable dhansak which she said was nice, I had chicken madras which had nice amount of spice but sauce was like water, bombay aloo was cooked nicely but had no spice to it, garlic naan was not garlicky at all, keema naan had plenty of meat in it, onion bhajis were over cooked and very small. This restaurant was a lot better in the past, we haven't been here for a few years and we won't be returning anytime soon.

Food was delicious. The food came about the time they said it was just slightly longer waiting than I’d have expected. But the food was hot and it was tasty. Will definitely return.

Called in without a booking on Saturday night and had a lovely meal- I had the Dansak which was pleasantly hot and my partner enjoyed the milder Massanda. Had the ice creams after as a treat and to cool down. Reasonably priced and good service.

This is our favourite Indian restaurant. Great food, great staff!!

The best Indian restaurant/takeaway I’ve had

Not always consistent, but as good as you would want from a local Indian in the sticks.

Ordered a takeaway, my dish chicken chettinad is no longer on the menu but they were happy to still make it. All good was fantastic, great portion sizes and very hot. Super friendly/polite service on collection. Next time we shall eat in.

Absolutely delicious will definitely order again

I'm sorry to say that this was one of the worst Indian meals we've ever had. The Peshwari Chicken was completely and utterly tasteles, no trace of any spices not even any salt. In a blind taste test I would not have had the faintest idea what I was eating. The Cauliflower Bhajee was no beter. Lamb Dupiaza was fractionally better but only just, aided by the presence of onions. The Brinjal Bhajee was equally lack lustre. Judging from the previous good reviews, I can only guess that they have a different chef now.

A professionally operated restaurant with quality food and service. Although Eastern Promise is located in the lovely sleepy village of Herstmonceux diners travel long distances for the quality menu. Interior and exterior of property is lovely and the management are a well respected group among the local village. I highly recommend. As an update: we purchased food this past weekend for takeaway. Sadly, it did not meet our expectations and did not represent the same quality we've experienced in the past. We will definitely return but will be guarded as to our next purchase We're hoping this one experience was just a glitch - things such as these can happen from time-to-time, so we're hoping for a positive experience on our next visit. Nevertheless, Eastern Promise still remains as one of our local favourites.

We had a lovely meal here over the weekend. The food was great and the satff really friendly! We will definitely be going back!

Very friendly staff and reasonably priced. We didn't think the nan breads were that good and the keema had hardly any meat

The food was horrid. The mushrooms were burned, the coconut rice tasted like ground cardboard . The mushrooms so badly burned and so bitter they were inedible. I cannot understand the five star reviews - either written by people who don’t know Indian food or those who are happy to except a goopy brown sauce on everything. Two stars are generous- but am trying to be fair to the kind owner and the tandoori chicken and shami kebab which were both palatable.

Eastern promise has the outstanding food with good atmosphere and they are good at coocking all chicken curry and mosala.

Ordered twice now, thought I’d give it a second chance as used to eat there and was good food. Delivery was quick but food was below average, hardly any flavour to it and small chunks of meat and not much of it at all, Naan breads were extremely poor, won’t be ordering again.

Was told it had left then told someone pushed wrong button at shop and had to do again and driver said she was only given the order 10 mins before it arrived 45 mins late

Very disappointing, the tikka massala & prawn purée was tasteless. Cldnt taste any spice at all, spent over £60 and really wish I hadn’t bothered. The chips was 1/4 of a bag made up over overdone burnt French fries and pale chunky chips, so strange. The poppadoms was nice though

Freezing cold on arrival despite living less than a mile from the restaurant, no flavour or taste, and lamb was chewier than Ghandis flip flop, tried supporting a local business several times but this was the worst yet ! Will not bother again and will use Ragdoot in Hailsham instead

This was the worst Indian takeaway I have had. There was no flavour to any of the food. The Curries were cold when they arrived as were the bhajis (which were like dry little nuggets)

It was tiny portions and wasn't good as other places around bit disappointed wasn't horrible but not worth the money

Thought we would treat ourselves to a takeaway Christmas Eve, knew that prices had gone up considerably (for at least the dish I normally have) a few months earlier however what was really disappointing on this occasion was both the quality and quantity of food. Both myself and partner thought Chicken was low grade and containers were only half full at best. Sauce was good (whilst not much of it) and staff were friendly but in short we won't be going back which is a real shame as quite a drive to alternatives.

Our first takeaway from here. Staff were very friendly while we waited for our order and the food was very tasty and fresh My only small gripe was it was on the more expensive side for Indian and they do lack a variety of vegetarian options. But overall - a v nice experience.

My wife and I are new to the area and our friends have recommended here for a while so we decided to try it! We were blown away with the flavour, textures, smells the list could go on with every adjective to describe delicious food! Would highly recommend here 5****

We only wanted some bread and poppadums. When we arrived we were charged and paid on the card. While we were waiting for our order, we were asked if we paid, we said we did. Next minute they’re talking foreign and accusing us of not paying, holding back the food and making us look like criminals in front of other customers. Eventually got the food, came home to find no meat in the keema Nan (£4.15!) We phoned back after we had eaten to complain and he denied he was rude and put the phone down on us, no apology obviously. For a nice little village they are not a very nice restaurant!!

It was extremely late and no update. The food turned up cold and doesn’t taste great. I’d say this isn’t a cheap place to eat and it DOES NOT warrant the price tag. First time I’ve tried here but wish I stuck to my usual place!

Although we only had a take away the whole meal was perfect. The depth of flavour was amazing and no hint of oilyness in any dishes. The colours of some dishes are not as vibrant as you may be used to , so no glow in the dark food! Highly recommended.

This is the first time we have tried this restaurant, it's not the last. Food was tasty, not greasy. Delivered with care and on time, friendly delivery person.

Just called into the restaurant went to order and asked about gluten free food nobody in the restaurant had a clue what was in their food not even the chef so we got up and left and went to the pub next door much better service . I have eaten in many Indian restaurants before and had a lovely gluten free meal and never had a reaction.

Tikka lovely. Salad revolting rotting cucumber and who puts peas in salad? My main thing I like was missing. Rude staff not willing to fix it. Want a refund! Was our monthly treat.

My partner and me had a takeaway last night. I had king prawn but they were like BULLETS small chewy not good. But the worst part I have been I'll all day after with tummy pains. I think they must of cooked the prawns without thawing them out properly before cooking. The dish was expensive enough then to feel I'll after. Not good.

I havent visited this restaurant for a long time as, like most Indian restaurants nowadays, it doesn’t open for lunch. We were a large party of 20+ and they looked after us very well. Most importantly all the food was very good. I would strongly recommend to all curry lovers. As an extra bonus they have a very reasonably priced house wine.

We ordered a takeaway to be delivered about 2 miles from the restaurant. It was an order for over £80 and they added £3 for delivering it, without any warning. The food was very disappointing and we will not be ordering again. The rice was old and had been re heated. My lamb madras was a mixture. Part of it was good quality and well cooked with nice pieces of lamb. the other part had different coloured sauce and had tough uncooked pieces of lamb and gristle. Not pleasant

Just had a takeaway this evening and I must say that this was the BEST vindaloo EVER! Not just heat but loads of flavour. Everything about the meal was great. Cannot wait to go back next week.

Unfortunately I just had a bad takeaway from here; All the dishes had a thick layer of oil, the lamb was chewy and fatty, the poppadoms smelt stale and the tarka dal was mostly water with a burn garlic taste. Hopefully it will be better next time

Lime pickle condiment re used we got told off for putting the wrong spoon in it as it would have to be thrown away. Dirty plates and table cloths, food luke warm, greasy absolutely no flavour. King prawns smelt funny and very crunchy but daughter said she thought it was ment to be like that. I'm hoping shes not ill tomorrow. Such a shame as this was our local and used to be amazing

We've been meaning to come here for years after hearing good things from friends. Finally got there tonight with our 2 children and was not disappointed. Food was amazing and service was 1st class. Honestly the staff were all wonderful, especially with the kids. We will definately be returning.

I understand in these times it’s hard for companies and staff however Absolutely disgusted with the service! First of all the food turned up 25 minutes late then Got delivered the wrong order, we called to say about the order then promised our order in full to then have to wait another 25 minutes for the order to only come as part of what we had ordered and we were expected to eat someone else’s cold food when issues were raised service was appalling and was only offered a free dish next time.
