Perfect spot for a bit of lovely food

Went here for a dinner and had a great experience the food was lovely and we didn’t feel rushed and could have a nice quiet dinner. We have also ordered from here quite a few times and never been disappointed

Not much lamb in the curry, bhajis were soft and very greasy, popadoms slightly stale. Shame given the price!!

Ordered a takeaway this evening. The order was processed at 8.18pm. The food didn't arrive until 10.05pm and was stone cold. We were really disappointed as we had previously enjoyed food from this establishment.

Food took a long time to be served. Lamb was tough, chicken passanda tasted pretty much the same as the massala and one portion of rice that I asked to take home after (that was not eaten) was not put in the bag. Disappointing.

Always has and always will be the best Indian restaurant in Uckfield. Lovely food, super friendly staff.

Did Christmas Day here, couldn't fault it. Had a delivery tonight, equally as good. Best Indian food around.

All three items were good. It was great to have rounded onion bhaji rather than the flattened ones most places do now. The keema naan tasted really fresh with no chewiness.

Beautifully cooked + Flavoursome Indian Food which stands out from so many other Indian Restaurants. Each dish has different fresh herbs + spices, (unlike so many others where the sauce is just brown, and similar tasting.). It is difficult to find a restaurant where chefs use fresh herbs + spices. This one does, and is well worth going out of your way, to taste these peoples flavoursome and well cooked dishes! You will not be disapointed ! Free parking directly behind the restaurant. No need to book in the week, but you need to of a weekend.

Good quality, tasty food served by friendly helpful staff. We travel to uckfield periodically on business and visit whenever we do. We haven’t been disappointed once!!!

i have been eating here since 2005 to 2016 and the food was superb then! i have since returned to the area and have been back sevral times this year (2021) The food here just keeps getting better and better!! highly recomend the Full Monty but not for the faint hearted "it's very hot and tasty" takeaway's are equaly as good too, recommend booking whichever you choose. very nice staff/owner for the last 40 years!! Update; 7th December 2022 - food still very good but portion sizes have shrunk and the price has gone up! Getting skimpy with chicken in curry dishes!! ***No hygiene rating certificate displayed on premises? Checked ratings and it’s a 3 star, obviously ashamed to display ratings than pursuing achieving a higher standard that would benefit the business and public confidence***

The prawns were over cooked and the broccoli and cheese was very underdone over all a poor meal.

Felt the service wasn't up to their usual standard. We had to ask someone to take our order in the end. The food was excellent as usual though.

The food is usually quite good but was genuinely awful this time sadly; the naans were burnt, the rice was undercooked, the curry was oily, the chicken was over cooked and the baaji was stale. Very disappointing for so much money :/

Star of Bengal has to take the crown as Uckfields best Indian Restaurant and takeaway. The food is delicious . Im not sure if the chef has changed or not as we had received a mediocre takeaway here before perhaps 8 months ago but the standard now has vastly improved and the food is tastier than the other restaurants on Just Eat. Ie not waterwdPlease keep this standard up and we’d have no need to order elsewhere. Also dined in recentky and it was very pleasant. The naan breads were to die for !

Cannot fault the delivery service at all. I ordered a chicken Vindaloo. Sadly, a pale orange colour and no substance to the sauce. A sad sad version of the highly spiced curry dish that originated in the Goa region of India and known for its fiery and tangy flavours. Dissapointing indeed.

Prompt delivery; polite delivery driver; smashing bit of grub! Not tried a Murag Kurchan before, and I really enjoyed it!

Cracking food and great service. Couldn’t fault it. Good selection of Traditional Indian dishes plus a few we hadn’t seen before.

Tandoori chicken is just great here, as is the Mombai sizzler. Great friendly service. Always met with a smile.

We were missing the poppadoms we had ordered which was disappointing, however the food we ate was DELICIOUS and we were very very satisfied. It’s unfortunate we didn’t get all of our order but the food made up the evening.

Worst customer experience ever. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PLACE. Do not waste your money here. We ordered a chicken tikka and they sent a box of dry chicken with no sauce…. And then when we spoke to them on the phone they continuously argued over the phone telling us that is what chicken tikka is… Extremely poor service and even worse food. Go to any other Indian restaurant other than this one in Uckfield!

Nice Indian restaurant in Uckfield town centre. A number of us dined and everyone stated they liked the food. No major issues, and would certainly be somewhere we would return to in the future. Licensed to serve alcohol and has Cobra lager on draft. The high street itself is on a slope so might not be great for those with mobility issues. We had an old gentleman with us who didn't enjoy the walk to and from the restaurant for that reason. Hardly the restaurants fault, but should be noted never the less.

We’ve been loyal customers for many years but are really sad to see that food quality has gone down markedly. Our take-away meals were merely average and lacking in character. Chicken was tough and tasteless. After many years of consistently good food and hard work by the owner, food is now bland, watery and poor value for money. We just hope that the owners return to good quality before it’s too late.

We had a takeaway. First time we’ve ordered online for delivery. I think this must have changed owners. I’ve been using this restaurant for 35 years. It’s always been reasonably priced and good quality. I ordered Vegetable Dhansak which was very hot and spicy, lacking the usual smoothness of a Dhansak it was also £3.20 more than it was on my old takeaway menu. My husband wanted Chicken Tikka Bhuna but that was not even available so he ordered just Chicken Bhuna. The meat was tough and it was £2 more expensive than Chicken Tikka Bhuna on the old menu. We will not be using this restaurant again. There are others in Uckfield that are more reasonable and better quality.

Used to be a favourite, until they started delivering chewy old chicken, and then leg instead of breasts. Sorry star of bengal :(

1-4-2023 Shocking service last night. Arrived at 7:30 and didn't get our main course till just gone 9 o clock. There was 2 of us and it wasn't busy in the restaurant. Hopefully just a one off but wary about going back.

Waited 1 1/2 hours for our food to be delivered when it finally came had forgotten the drinks so had to go back to shop to get them and brought wrong drinks back anyway! Food was lovely just a shame about delivery and drinks situation

Booked a table but made to wait over half an hour before we were seated. Unlikely to visit again.

Looked at prices on their website, ordered veg vindaloo ( 7.95), and a bombay aloo. ( 3.95) They say 10% discount for collections. Was not very good at all, but when i collected it, they said after 10% discount it was 12.15. I thought "huh?!", shrugged, Borrowed a spoon and sat outside before my film up the road. I rechecked the prices, did the math, I explained, they fobbed me off, pointing to their restaurant menu saying for phone collections they use that menu. I told them, that's dodgy business, after going round a few times, and told them they owed me 1.20. Then they said "we were so polite" then accused ME of being rude. And said good night. with a HUGE grin on his face, brushed me off, to greet some customers who just walked in. Reporting to trading standards, guys! Not sure what's going on in restaurants these days, never had anything happen like this outside a dodgy takeaway innercity, but this is the second scammer in a WEEK!

Best Dhansak I've had in years, was perfect with brilliant service.

It was good to get back to our old normality by attending the nearby cinema with our familiar restaurant booking (here) afterwards. It seems to me that the old management has changed - but don't worry. The service was just as good, as was the food. It was busy (it's a small restaurant) but we were warmly welcomed for our booked table. The menu has been updated and seems to have more variety so it meant a bit more familiarisation after a 2-year absence. The food was just as good, as were the drinks so I look forward to a renewed and continuing relationship. I also noticed an increase in takeaway/delivery services.

New years eve 2021 our family of seven decided to have a takeaway. Yes we fully understood it would be busy but having always gone there it was a no brainer. We called to ascertain how long food would take and for collection. Notified 45 minutes to 1 hour. Without hesitation placed our order. Just over the hour we collected. All seemed well until we returned home and started plating out. Realised we were short of one chicken tikka masala. My daughter phoned restaurant as it was she who placed the order and unfortunately it was her meal which was omitted. The restaurant asked for her to collect. She rightly declined due to fault being theirs. Told it would be delivered in five minutes. Roughly 15-20 minutes later my daughter called them back. She was told the meal had been despatched and were unsure why it had not been delivered. They took her mobile number and said would call back. After 5-10 minutes of waiting and NOT getting a call my daughter called the restaurant. She was asked for our address details again and told the meal should be with us soon. After another 10 minutes my daughter again called the restaurant. At this point she was extremely upset as everyone was sat down eating and she wasn't. My daughter heard the staff talking amongst themselves. She was told another meal would be delivered. This was now two meals which had not been delivered. About 10 minutes later someone arrived with a replacement meal. This person said they had delivered to No 2 instead of ours. In my opinion this was not true. In truth two meals were un-delivered. No mistake can be given for our address as our house in named and is NOT a number. So to give the excuse of delivering to No 2 is wrong. I called the restaurant to speak with the manager. At least two members of staff with whom I spoke with just let me hold on the phone. One member of staff initially said he was the manager but when pushed he said he wasn't. I was then put on hold again. After 5 minutes I hung up. My review is NOT about the food as the food quality has always been VERY GOOD. It is with the appalling delivery service and customer service the restaurant provides. If they have no control over their delivery driver then either get another driver or do not do deliveries. HONESTY is non negotiable which on this occasion I do not think it was. As for the phone call to speak with the manager. This needs to be addressed. Good food but extremely POOR service.

The best Indian restaurant in the area. A lovely, welcoming, friendly little place and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Beautifully cooked, well presented and excellent service. Couldn’t fault a thing. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Everyone in our group enjoyed different dishes - just the right amount of spice and really good quality chicken tikka jalfrezi. Friendly, great service in this small restaurant that has been in Uckfield forever! Very affordable too.

We have been coming to this restaurant for about 40 years now and it is still our favourite. Great staff and excellent food. We are no longer local but still come back for a meal whenever we are in Sussex.

Lovely food relaxed and quiet atmosphere

This is the first time we've used this take away and to be honest, the food was superb. The portion sizes were big 11/10 to the chef's, staff were lovely. Will definitely be using The Star of Bengal for future meals & would recommend if asked.

We enjoyed a takeaway which was really nice. The food was cooked well, not overcooked like most restaurants these days. The flavours blended really well and the experience inspired us to definitely go back soon. A breath of fresh air!

Ordered my takeaway on line because there was apparently 20% off until 2 December. Whilst I was there collecting my food I picked up a new takeaway menu. Imagine my annoyance when I realised that I would have paid less if I had phoned my order in with the usual 10% discount than I did online with a 20% discount. Not acceptable - explanation was that it was the web company making the extra charge - not true as some prices were the same, some were £1 or £2 more!!

Very disappointing meal. The rice was over cooked, the onion bhajis were dry and burnt and my vegetable madras was full of potato. Hardly any other vegetables. It was a shame as the time before my curry was delicious. I felt as it was a 50% discount they obviously had skimped on quality.

Get yourself booked in if you're around! My favourite restaurant in Uckfield to eat out and the best chutney tray I've ever had. Generally really good food with polite and friendly staff. I'd like to try the other Indian places in the town but can't bring myself not to come here whenever I am in Uckfield
