Tonight we had a nice dinner with the family and enjoyed the Hamburger evening. Very tasty food, very pleasant atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff. Too bad it's our last day. We would definitely eat there again and enjoy the atmosphere!

Pleasant local pub. Prices reasonable in this day and age and friendly and efficient staff. Good car parking and the food is good if not Michelin starred. Good range of beers and sports on TV if you like that, also a pool table. A garden to sit when the weather is fine. Good pub for locals and visitors.

Do not take children here very rude and spent so much money here got told that the children can only sit in seats and not move very rude and food was cold never go there again rude service and attitude from staff beer was watered down very disappointed

Awful hostile atmosphere from the "locals". Felt like it might kick off at any point. Felt very uncomfortable and unable to relqx. The women in there were dancing about side eying with dirty looks and whilst sitting outside under thr cover had some bloke accusing my partner of having his phone !! The said individual had eyes like saucers so clearly off his nit! Shame as a nice pub but visitors arent made welcome by the locals ! Lived here for 30 years and was warmed by several people i know it isnt a welcoming pub i will now avoid unless i want a punch up ! Dinkum far more welcoming so shall stick with that

Just popped in for a drink on Mother's Day and met the fabulous Theresa behind the bar.... Love her! Chris, with his dog Ollie, is a regular.,. Also hilarious! We shall definitely return for laughs and food! Xx

Excellent customer service staff went above and beyond for my little one offered to do its dinner prior so it can cool down . Bar staff were extremely helpful with him setting up his high chair. Food was excellent would go back there again. Plenty of parking spaces cleanliness inside and outside the building . Wheelchair free Access there also catering for most dietary requirements I notice on the menu

Great pub, live music, very friendly staff, good beers.

Went with family for a christmas day drink. Pub was full but staff very quick to serve and make sure everyone was enjoying themselves. Hope they all had a fab rest of Christmas 🎄

Went here September 2023 with my cousin. The staff, including the manager were very friendly and welcoming. Other customers were friendly. The food was amazing and was served quickly. The choice of food was great. Really enjoyed my time there and would strongly recommend.

I went here with my cousin for a light lunch. The staff, bar staff and manager, were very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was one of the best I have seen. People talk to you and are friendly. The food was amazing, well worth the money, great value. We stayed longer than planned. Thank you.

During my infrequent visits to see the family I always make a bee-line for the British Queen, see prevoius review. My sister booked a table for a meal 2 days in advance. When we arrived even earlier than we said we would, we were told we hadn't booked and there were no tables left. Upon looking at their booking in book her reservation was there. Sorry they said. We should have gone elsewhere as it turns out, but they rearranged the tables and fitted us in. After ordering almost every table was on their dessert or had left before we got anything to eat. Two of us has the roast of the day and it was apparent we got the trimmings although the veg was recently cooked and nice. Two of us has the last of one of the puddings and by this time we were the only ones present. My pudding was under-heated. When going for the bill nearly 2 hours after entering I had no idea how it was broken down because I was only told the bottom line.I wonder why?

Although a regular visitor for a beer i have not sampled the food. Went today with my son,daughter in law and 22 month old grandson. We all ate and it was fabulous. Staff were so good with my grandson and food,service and atmosphere was first class. Highly recommend it.

We have visited here twice recently, once as a couple and once with family. I would recommend the food here which is well cooked and served by friendly staff. The lamb steak is the best that I have tasted anywhere and was beautifully cooked, The puddings are good too and varied with each visit.

Angela and team offer a great delivery service for the elderly who can’t get out. A lifeline over the recent lockdowns! Also very friendly when we could get out and visit the pub

Staff are rude and confrontational

When my friend and I visited today, there were already people waiting outside, waiting for doors to open...and when we got in, all but a few places were reserved for lunch. My friend had excellent garlic mushrooms on toasted bread with a salad and I had a toasted cheese and ham sandwich with good quality ham and cheddar and salad. The staff are very kind and attentive and the whole place has the ambience of family coming to visit. I immediately felt at home and very welcome. A great local asset and now that my friend is coming to live in the area, we both agree a second visit very soon is on the cards.

A lovely friendly pub with a real community feel, great menu and food. Charity coffee mornings are held once a month with a different charity benefitting every month. (Every 2nd Thursday of the month) Weekly quiz nights on Thursdays Great entertainment most Fridays and weekends A really cosy place

We didn’t book but decided last minute to meet our Daughter & Boyfriend for Sunday Lunch. We received a very warm welcome & a table was found to accommodate us. There was a varied menu & we all enjoyed the food. The Roast Lamb was excellent & the service was prompt & with a smile. The atmosphere was great & just how local pubs used to be on a Sunday - with a packed entertainment program through the week & Sunday free snacks on the bar & a Meat Raffle! The Pub appeared really well supported by the local community. We would thoroughly recommend & will be back again - thank you! 👍😀

1st time we had been to this pub. Staff were very attentive even though the pub was really busy. It was a band night and we have seen 4 blind nuns before aand as always didnt disappoint. Great night thank you so much Katy and wendy

Walking the dog with my wife, and stopped for a wine and a shandy, as you do when it's a nice evening. I noticed that my pint seemed a little flat but it was refreshingly chilled, but as we continued our walk, with in five minutes I brought it all up. Thankfully I hadn't drank it all. Sorry British Queen...we will not be back.

Love this place. Usually pop in on the way back from walking dog on the downs. Always welcoming, and they give my dog treats... Which means he always wants to go there! I've never had a bad meal there.

I went to the British Queen for my brothers birthday as they allow dogs and my son has a puppy and didn't want to leave him. Although the food was good we had to wait over an hour and this was far too long. Other people were complaining about the long wait too. Such a shame

It is always nice to return from foreign parts to come back to your own local and its character and characters

First time visit with group of 16 people for Sunday Roast. Angela and all staff made us very welcome. We were attended to with quiet efficiency. Food was lovely especially the tender Roast Beef. The pensioners portions very generous. We will be back as a group later in they year , in the meantime several of our group will be returning with their friends. Thanks again from Meg

This Public House-Pub,is a lovely place to go for a nice lunch n drinks or even a dinner as the staff make you feel very welcome and helpful as for the food well it depends on what you like but for me the food was very nice and tasty,the only thing I found was parking as the car park can get full up as its not that big n also cars tend to be parked half on n half of the pavment, but apart from that the British Queen is a nice place to go and visit.

Cosy pub in a convenient location. They have a function room that is free to hire out for birthday parties, etc.

Yesterday my husband and I visited the British Queen for lunch as we had heard that it had a very nice menu and after parking in the car park we made our way inside. On entering we were greeted with a smile and "hello" which was very welcoming. We ordered our drinks and the lady explained that there was a 20 minute wait which wasn't a problem for us. We thought if there was a wait the food will be freshly cooked which when it arrived was. We ordered from the smaller portion (pensioner) menu but when it arrived it was a very generous size. I had the scampi and chips and my husband had the ham, eggs, and chips and his was a generous size too. The food was really nice, beautifully cooked and piping hot. So much so if we had wanted a dessert we couldn't possibly have managed one. Well done British Queen we will be returning on a future visit.

Absolutely amazing experience. 5 stars from the moment I walked in. The staff are extremely professional and friendly. The food is to die for. Had the Cajun prawns and chicken Tikka skewers for appetizers which were absolutely amazing. For my main I had the scampi and chips which was so delicious. Extremely happy to have stumbled upon this gem.

Had a wonderful meal on Valentine's day. Portions were very generous & the food delicious & piping hot. Cosy little dining room off the Saloon bar all lit with candles.

Waited 60 minutes for a very simple main meal for three adults - got accused of being rude when asked where our food was - so we demanded a refund and walked out. The pub was not busy nor were the staff rushed off their feet. I dread to think how long we would have had been waiting, had they been very busy, and the staff were rushed off their feet. The conduct of the staff was highly belligerent and somewhat incredulous, hence, why we shall not be returning.

I come to this pub when Crystal Clear are playing their wonderful country and western music since I enjoy line dancing. It makes for a lovely evening's entertainment and the atmosphere is great

The staff are ok, however the Liver & Bacon left a lot to be desired, Leather & scratching would be a better discription, Will not recommend this establishment except to maybe have a drink & eat elsewhere,

We visited today, with friends, for the first time. The outside is very attractive but the inside could do with renovation but not desperately so.

Taking the old folks out can be somewhat difficult at times. However here as stated they looked after us very well. Good access for a wheelchair and plenty of room inside. Service and food surprisingly very good and at reasonable price.

Family party here annually, half of us order food then the other half are told the kitchen isn't taking orders for an hour so they can catch up. Had to order in and eat dominoes in the pub garden, last year we hold the party there...prebooked you think they'd be prepared. Staff even got rude and confuntational when we mentioned that it was disappointing.

I really like the pub, but sometimes feel the food should be much better. My lasagne looked burnt and had probably been re heated. I get the feeling that the chef isn't really interested.

Good service good beer and free pool

Went for a birthday lunch on a Friday afternoon and after a long wait for our food it was a huge disappointment. Food was burnt/dry and tasted like it had been reheated. Chips were hard and the jacket potato looked and tasted like it was left over from the day before. Barmaid who took our food and drink order was also not very welcoming and didn't even give us chance to complete our drinks order fully and got it wrong.

Went in for lunch the other day. Chef was hanging around the bar area in dirty chef whites messing and joking around with the bar staff whilst we were ignored. Duly walked out and will not return.

Popped in for a Sunday lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. My garlic mushrooms were the best I have had in a long while and the lamb shank was very tender. Real ale sold included "Old cocky" a new one to me and nice, the usual local brew of Harveys and another unknown to me of Tribute. A very good Sunday meal with the usual smiling and efficient service.

A real friendly pub, always seem to be doing something for the local community or charities

Went to the British Queen on an early Saturday evening with the idea for a meal. Waited ages to get served - there was only one harassed guy serving all the semi-drunk locals swearing and puffing their vapes at the bar. (In fact, one of those locals was served before me despite me waiting longer - at least the pub knows how to look after its regulars I suppose).

Very much a locals pub with pleasant staff, good food and selection of beers. I recommend something from Harvey's of Lewes, now that the Star brewery has closed.

Arrived at the British Queen at the entrance in the doorway people smoking not pleasant when you have to walk through that to enter a pub lovely old pub very nice inside staff very nice but there was someone smoking an electric cigarette at the bar not very pleasant

Only for locals, a wetherspoons without the ambience. Expensive beer and gloomy staff. If you are not local prepare to wait for a drink and courtesy.

Proper pub thats serves food and is dog friendly. Food is consistently good and there is a good selection to choose from. Live music most Saturdays. Angie the landlady and her staff are always helpful and they always have a warm welcome everyone.Great pub, great food and great beer.

Popped in for lunch after a long break to have a very warm welcome from the lovely landlady Angie. Pub was very full with a party of 25 and others. Advised of a 40 minute wait for food at the time of ordering but starter came within 20 minutes and main course shortly afterwards...good customer service. Good choice of real ales including local brewery Harveys old Ale.
