The Star Inn in Wealden

In the middle of nowhere plus the constant road closures, it means diverting through a busy route with temporary lights every other week.

I never leave reviews but these are the little country side pubs that we should all love and protect. Reasonably priced and tasty food.

Had a meal here with a couple of friends today. We'll be back again. The food was lovely, the atmosphere was great and the whole place was so clean.

The experience was dreadful. The way it is set up is quite closterphobic. Very dark in places. Needs a good clean and the garden needs tidying up. Parts of the ceiling are in places ready to drop on the customers. The service was not pleasant, staff were somewhat sullen. I returned my main as it was too thick a pork steak, it was hard to cut through, it was very dry and very chewy as if heated up. I told a member of staff and they offered me something in its place. I asked for a burger and chips and that was not at all tasty. Had an upset tummy in the evening Couldn't wait to get out of there.

5 of us ate at the Star Inn , Normans Bay early afternoon. We had the Tuesday 99p steak with a starter and dessert offer. We were served by Ali and her team, and it was a very nice experience. It was a nice atmosphere and the food was excellent. We would certainly recommend this restaurant. Thank you everyone . It was fun, and no question , we will return back. It may be a bit “out on a limb” on Pevensey Marshes, but well worth a visit for it’s excellent food at very reasonable prices, served by really helpful & friendly staff. Perfect!

1st time in 31 years I have been back to this lovely pub. It has changed a lot. Still very nice layout. Staff are very good friendly and very polite. Can't be said for everyone that eats in the bar.... But I'm not holding the pub accountable for rude people who think it's right to push in and over talk others. The food is out of this world we had the fish and was so good almost couldn't finish eating as was full. Such a good price. I would travel the 1hr to get there just for the food

Nice garden area, dog friendly, we had 2 starters. The prawns in the prawn cocktail were tiny, and the mac n cheese bland and luke warm. Pretty basic food if honest.

Wouldn't go again. Some staff were rude. You have to queue up outside and place your drinks order through a small window. It's like lockdown! The garden is in a sorry state. So much potential, but it looks like no-one cares...

Went in the evening, initially attentive but as time went by checking if we wanted drinks, etc became less and less frequent. Eventually it felt like we had to go, well before closing.

Fantastic meal, absolutely fantastic staff, very nice atmosphere. Had a meal for Father’s Day. Highly recommended 🥰

Went for Christmas Dinner in 2022 and was so disappointed haven't been back until this year and wow food was fantastic especially the chicken breast with rich creamy sauce ,so will be visiting more often now .

No bar snacks but large garden, lots of outdoor seating, useful for cyclists.

The squid starter was very tasty and cooked perfectly as was my steak. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and service. My only issue was the cherry pie… it must of been warmed in the microwave as was soggy to touch but the taste was good! Next time I would confirm with them wether it’s oven warmed up or microwaved as it would of made a difference to my choice in dessert

I've been here a couple of times now on different occasions and the food has always been amazing! Staff are always friendly and happy to help and the pub itself is in a lovely location. Very reasonable priced and always has offers on. I would highly recommend visiting here and will continue visiting myself ☺️

Stop here sometimes on my bike ride, it's very good food here with plenty of choice and reasonable prices. Lovely garden setting outside surrounded by countryside. Plenty of parking if going by car. Very narrow lanes and bridge. Good disability access. Clean toilets.

We was staying down the road and tried here after reading such good reviews! YES the food is good value for money if you don’t mind the quality being affected for the price, we done the £10 fish deal however did I enjoy the food…. NO it was possibly the worse meal Iv eaten out and paid for. Staff are really friendly however the food was bland, some dry and some floating in oil. Nothing tasted fresh or homemade even the garlic mushrooms starter…. Tasted like tinned mushrooms in watered down vinegar with no garlic. The Mac And Cheese had no real cheese just a bland cheese sauce which was chucked over pasta! Onion rings was good tho! Scampi dry I think was from hot plate and been sitting there a while, Desserts was ok for the money wasn’t home made but for £5 can’t go wrong they was nice! The restraunt inside is very dirty and needs a good clean up, the toilets are gross I walked in and walked back out I can see from another review others have done the same. Outside grounds look lovely, such a shame the inside needs such a refurb! To add while the food is cheap a pint of fosters was £6!!! Diet Coke was £4 I’m from London and use to expensive drinks however felt that was steep for the pub that was so rundown and dates. Staff are really friendly and I think one of the reasons the reviews are so good. Maybe I am being critical but I didn’t think it ended being a cheap meal after drinks and even so would rather pay more for something more enjoyable. We went for a meal at the harbour and had fresh seafood (sea bass, King Prawns, Pizza, Seafood pasta etc) for £20 less for the 5 of us with drinks albeit without starters however the mains was bigger and substantial. I was gutted this didn’t live up to our expectations after reading the reviews.

Went here for a meal. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. lovely location. Has a large play area for children. Clean and tidy .

We went for the 99p steak offer and to be honest, we had set our expectations accordingly, and I have to say, very, very very pleasantly surprised.... The 99p fillet steak was absolutely delicious... and I don't think it was a fluke as all three of us said the same. Really tender, juicy, and tasty... Yes, it's not the flashiest of pubs, and it is slightly dated inside, but in a very genuine way. Service was fantastic from our lady (if you were working 30th July - serving the back corner, thank you)... Would have been happy to have paid the full price for the steak it was that good. As we left all the tables outside had also just been cleaned. Bad points? - Not really there is a small amount of general debris in the pub garden (beer bottles / glasses not picked up off the floor - the car park was littered with litter, some quite old), and tatty, dead plants in plant pots, and this creates a slight feeling of being unkempt, which is a shame, because both things are a quick, cheap fix for the pub to remedy - and give the wrong impression, because actually I think it's a real gem!

A great family pub when the weather is good.

The staff are very friendly and even offered me to have a taste of the butter chicken to see if it was too hot. My husband and son LOVED everything they had ( 3 different curries - best Indian meal they’d ever had !!

I loved the cambert veg lasagne. Staff were friendly the pub was beautiful with wooden beams. They have a garden you can eat in and play area for kids.

Friday fish special was very good value and tasty. Food piping hot with a good portion size.

An enjoyable meal ... Happy friendly staff...good food... reasonable prices overall highly recommended ...just remember to duck as you pass through a door as these are all very low

Food was good overall value for money , service was fine , atmosphere :little drab could do with an update all seated in one area seemed dark , menu could maybe do with modernising for the younger crowd no halloumi fries , loaded nachos that sort of thing .

We've been a few times but last week was definitely a low point. With a group of colleagues we all had different things. I had the beef roast and it was very poor. Meat quite tough, large potatoes hardly roasted, very boring and tasteless swede and carrot and lacklustre gravy. Best thing was the sage and onion which really shouldn't be on the plate with beef anyway. Other people's meals looked a bit better, salmon and new potatoes; ham, egg and chips and burger. I wouldn't have a roast there again. The dessert was good - Nutella profiteroles with ice cream. However, this didn't make up for the main. It's all very well being keenly priced but if it's horrible, I would rather pay more to have a decent meal.

Been here before two years ago for mothers day was lovely but today all microwaved or defrosted food (could tell by the soft sogginess and quick time coming out) Garlic bread was just soggy bread, country pub should have nice homemade pies this was like a microwave pukka pie soft on top. Smallest prawns in the world for prawn cocktail. The chicken noodles were just that! Plain a tiny bit of leek unappetising and the chicken torn mot even sliced Nice waitress

I went here for Father's day with my family and parents. I'm glad we pre-booked as it was busy. The service was so quick and we ordered the Sunday roast which was really tasty. The roast tatties were nice and crunchy and everything was delicious. I had sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was a decent size and also really tasty. The price of food is also very reasonable. I'd highly recommend this diamond of a pub.

Had a lovely meal with my mum and partner. The food was delicious I had a cheddar burger 🍔 With chips and salad burger Was tasty chips and salad too. Mum and partner had roast dinner which were beautiful too keep the good food doing guys 👍 Will be back soon.

Three of us went for a meal here last week, and the staff were so polite and attentive not rushing us at all. The food was such good value and cooked very nicely, portion size was very good too. The menu is varied and offers so much choice throughout. Starters, mains, and desert all looked so nice. The pub is an oldie worldie place with beamed ceilings and walls and plenty of tables inside and out. There is a beer garden but we didn't use it as we had an elderly aunt with us. There is also a car park to the side of this property. If you are eating outside, you place your order at the window at the front of the property, but waitress service inside. All in all a great place to visit while in the Pevensey and Bexhill area, we will definitely be visiting again and we live near Canterbury.

Looks fairly grim and rundown from outside, not very welcoming or welcoming, looked grubby inside, dogs not allowed and if sitting outside you are sent from bar to go and buy your drinks from a hatch? Didn’t stay and won’t be returning!

Great customer service, food, and prices. The majority of days they have a good deal on throughout opening hours for food, not like a happy hour or two. Paid £10 for 2 courses, which were both very tasty and fresh. They were happy to swap items, too. Lovely location, especially when sunny and walks/ cycling possible transport mode. The venue is lovely, the decor and atmosphere were almost perfect. We went on May Day bank holiday to the 99p Gastro event (mains for 99p with a full price starter and dessert. The salt and pepper quid starter tasted great, portion sizes left room for improvement, and could have had a nice dipping sauce, but was crispy and well tempered. I ordered the belly pork, imagining a juicy pork meat and crispy scored cracking. What I received was a slightly dry meat, and wet, floppy, tasteless skin topping. No scorring, no salt, nothing resembling crackling at all. The gravy and the mash were lovely, but that didn’t make up for it. There was two instances of this on the table and it was just overall disappointing, we were thankful we only paid 99p each for them but still. The cherry sundae desert I got was also lovely, but my partner received an overdone yet somehow soggy/heavy apple crumble. I wish this review could be more positive but I’ve been as balanced as is reasonable. If you’re doing a slow cooker belly pork the chefs still need to crispen the crackling in the oven once done, nobody wants a mound of wet mushy skin on their plate.

Google maps says this place is dog friendly. It definitely isn't. They refused to take our dogs in to the pub whilst we had a meal. They claim to be a country inn. I've never come across a country inn that refuses to take dogs. This place is rubbish we won't be darkening their doors again

Impromptu visit for a Sunday dinner , whilst any veggie roast dinner will never meet that of my wife's standard. .I am for that reason not really a fan of roast dinners out, but I have to say this was one of the better ones , even the nut roast was very nice. The rum n raisin sundea icecream was excellent however although the wife's crumble was nice it would have been so much better had it been heated up under the grill to crisp up the topping....but taste wise she enjoyed it! Service was very pleasant, so no complaints there! Overall, it was an enjoyable meal, and happy to revisit Brian & Christine

Original old pub, basic English food, cheap, don't expect culinary dishes. Friendly and fast service. The furnishings could be more cozy, but you could remove curtains that did not fit into the interior.

Great rural location with free parking, outdoor seating and children's play area. Building has character and restaurant has some excellent offers. Great quality food served with genuine care. Frequently has some amazing offers on food.

All good lovely spot pub set in the middle of vast fields no other buildings around for a quarter of a mile just fields of sheep everywhere and vast views 360%...pub inside is of old and new beams very big and spacious lots of nooks and crannies rooms on different levels staff are all young ladies and are very friendly also so quick to deliver the food after ordering it cant fault this pub all good always feel so homely there i also like their inches cider just what the doctor ordered but need to book to get the special offers 😀🍺

Popped in for a late lunch and was pleasantly surprised that even with a road closure in place there was a bustling atmosphere in the pub. If you looking for fancy fine dinning this is not the place for you, they do pub grub and they do it well. There’s lots of fish dishes on the menu as expected for somewhere so close to the coast. A great meal and a warm welcome, we will be back for sure

Oh wow there were 12 of us Mothers day at 6.30 pm and all I can say is the food was amazing and the service was exceptional !! Would recommend 100%

If it wasn't for the service it would be one star for the 'one' Star Inn. The food was made with the cheapest and lowest quality ingredients. I went for the roast dinner for our Mother's Day Meal, and it was poor. Chewy beef, watery gravy (with granules in it still), massive undercooked potatoes, boring boiled veg (advertised as roasted veg) and dry stuffing. The dessert was falsely advertised, "waffles", plural but it was just one pre-packaged waffle that put in a toaster and shoved on plate. Don't fall for this con establishment, advertised as being cheap, but it is still really expensive for the quality of food. On the plus side, the wait staff were very attentive and friendly, compliments to them!

Disappointing especially after dodging the pot holes coming from Pevensey . Batter on fish sloppy, luckily scampi OK but chips tasted like they were warmed up, peas rock hard. Table of very noisy / disruptive children near by. Lovely pub but could have had the same food in Weatherspoons for half the price. Parking a nightmare especially in the wet weather. Will not be returning

Very nice pub, lovely staff and good food reasonably priced

Went out for dinner for 3 courses for £10. Such great value for money. Couple things let it down though. Mash was so lumpy, I didn’t eat it. Also service was okay until it came to paying our bill when we waited ages to pay and when we went up to ask for our bill, the server rolled her eyes us at.

Lovely old world pub in the middle of no where. Fixed price 3 course Valentines meal with good service and lovely staff. Will definitely return. Beware the road from Bexhill is Shocking! Not bad from Pevensey though.

You seriously can’t beat this place for a tenner and the food you get, all of which is really good! You have to try it for yourself, can’t go wrong for the price! And it’s so pretty in the countryside.
