Went in at 12:20 hoping for a nice fry up only to be told breakfast stops at noon. This is a personal bug-bear of mine as I’ve run cafes of my own and genuinely don’t understand why cafes literally turn business away like this. You have the stuff on the premises anyway, if people want to buy it - cook it!! Had a latte which was nice but only white sugar available on the table no brown sugar or sweetener. Went with a sausage baguette in the end which was pleasant enough but it wasn’t a fry up which is what I really wanted. And by the way, do yourselves a favour and burn the awful chair covers.

Waited a long time for our order and the cafe was not full!We ordered paninis. Not special. Cutlery cheap and not comfortable to use or to cut into the panini. The coffee was bitter and when we returned them after two sips -we were told in no uncertain terms that the owner had worked in cafe's and restaurants all over the world and knew how to make coffee. We have had coffee all over the world so we also knew what we were talking about! We asked for the cost to be refunded and received it with no hint of any customer service ability.

A lovely find. Free parking a 2minute walk away. Situated by a small roundabout. This was our first and not our last visit. We had a breakfast and poached egg on toast, coffee and a tea. Freshly cooked from an open kitchen, well presented with plenty of butter for my toast. Also my eggs were just perfect as I asked for them to be firm. Toilets clean. Good value for money.

A great looking cafe from the outside that failed to impress once inside.Kitchen ran out of chicken at 13:30hrs with one of our orders (Chicken sandwich) so our second order had to be changed to Pulled Pork. The Pulled Pork cheese melt baguette looked great but was bland and without the BBQ sauce drizzled on top, would have offered little taste. The chicken sandwich; bread deeply smothered in butter, was dry and tasteless. By this point we had already returned a cappuccino that looked brilliant with a lovely frothy top but tasted dreadful (burnt). Overall a very disappointing experience.Such a shame.

Having moved to Heathfield just a week prior to visiting The Bay Tree for breakfast, we were so happy to find somewhere that does such an incredibly delicious breakfast within walking distance!I’m quite fussy when it comes to Eggs Royale as I often like extras such as mushrooms too and the muffin has to be soft and warm and the eggs perfectly soft boiled and the hollandaise sauce nice and warm making the dish overall of a good temperature..... the lovely lady who took my order was so friendly and accommodating, she listened to how I like Eggs Royale and it actually arrived 10 times better than I’d expected!! The Bay Tree has a lovely community feel and superb food and I would highly recommend this place :)

This cafe was a welcome site at the top of the hill at the end of the Cuckoo trail, we left Eastbourne at 8am and were starving by the time we got to Heathfield. We decided to try the Bay Tree, run by 2 young lads who were very polite, I had the eggs benedict with spinach, and my hubby the large full English breakfast, both were stunning, mine especially, it was the best eggs Benedict I've ever had, I complimented the chef who told me it was all freshly made which is why it was so nice,my hubby loved the full English too, the mushrooms were stunning, done with a savoury taste, nothing like the watery or fried versions you get elsewhere. I also had the strawberry milkshake... blimey that hit the spot, I zoomed back to Eastbourne fuelled by fabulous brunch.

Went in and asked for a breakfast. They said they didn't want to serve all day breakfast to avoid "a certain clientele." Who might this unsavoury clientele be, per chance?? Me? Then he went on to complain about how busy it was. Bog standard menu, so I asked if they had anything interesting and he pointed me to the overpriced specials, so I opted for just a sandwich to get out of there. Then he pointed out "See?? The customers always want the same thing." Thanks. From then on I went to a very nice cafe down the street with friendly service and good generous portions...and I'm a local! This place thinks it's posher than it is. A nice paint job doesn't make you posh or your food amazing!

We had a meal 19/12/16. It was a miserable day outside and not any better inside. No atmosphere and dark not very warm or welcoming. We ordered pie with chips and it was served with what looked liked like stew and then a pastry top. Not my idea of a pie.I had lasagne and requested chips instead of garlic bread. The chips were an extra 50p. These turned out to be wedges that were burned black on one side and white on the side not cooked, I could not eat these and left the chips and also most of the lasagne which was not very nice.We also had a long wait for the food despite not being busy.I have only just got round to writing this review as I mislaid receipt for the date. Shop front seating looking down Station Road over the Downs. On top of this the food is excellent, very well presented. The 'side salad' is not just rocket leaves and a slice of tomato but so much more. Ask for it and see. Good large mug of coffee as well. Good service and prices. What's not to like? I visit this cafe about once a month and under the new management I can honestly say that it is excellent;all the food that I have eaten is of very high quality. I had the ham egg and chips and the ham is home cooked and of very high quality. The drinks are also excellent and a wide choice is available including decaffeinated drinks. The cakes are really good and homemade. The staff are all friendly and service is prompt. Because the food is freshly made the staff still manage to deliver in good time.If people complain about slight delays in food delivery then perhaps they should visit a fast food chain where the food is frequently microwaved! The Bay Tree is a small venue and the atmosphere is great.I sometimes bring business colleagues tot his cafe and the feedback is very good.

Had planned to go to Lewes and start with a Bill's breakfast but decided to stay local and try this cafe as it often seems busy and is convenient location. Weather was dreadful so probably why quiet. Clean and warm. I don't normally like background Muzak but maybe when quiet a bit of coffeehouse might warm up the atmosphere .You order at the counter and the staff were polite, maybe different style from a 'Bill's' type place but perfectly adequate. My coffee and large orange juice came quickly. Coffee was OK , not as rich as I like it but well made.Eggs Benedict, took about 15 minutes but was well made, good runny yolks, hollandaise sauce OK. Cost £9.80 : I think good value . Would I recommend to friends and family. 'Yes'; coffee and cakes better in Costa but a good option for cooked breakfast or brunch in Heathfield town.

I had a delightful experience here 3 years ago. Just visited again for lunch and was very disappointed.Various vacant picture hangers and nails suggest a change of ownership. The placing of the order was difficult but I had no objection as the girl was clearly in training (which is good!). The problems started when my salad was presented and I was asked did I "want any sauces with that?". When I asked for some dressing the reply was "Sorry, we don't do dressing. You can have ketchup, salad cream or brown sauce." I declined and had to eat my (characterless supermarket style) salad bare. The food was okay but mundane. Competitors are using better quality ingredients. As we neared the end of our lunch the waitress started clearing the table around us as if to rush us out. Finally, I noticed that the ladies / gents / disabled one-for-all loo had one of its two light bulbs out of use, which could be difficult for some people. I mentioned this to the boss but, sticking his head round the door, he said "Oh yeah, I know about that" and went back to his other duties. It's a shame to see such a drop in standards. They need to sharpen up their act as there is stiff competition in Heathfield from the like of the wonderful Pilio greek cafe. I shan't return in a hurry.

Everything about this place, from the name to the decor, suggests a tearoom style cafe but the service and menu is much more greasy spoon, and that's no bad thing. The Full English has good standard sausages, eggs and bacon, all well cooked and excellent value. The rest of the menu is pretty much sandwiches, baked potatoes, salads and quiches. Better food, better value and a better experience than Costa, worth a visit. TOP TIP: If you are going for brunch, breakfast dishes stop at 12.00

Decided to have breakfast whilst waiting for an appointment. At £4.60 for a small english breakfast it was reasonably priced considering the size of the breakfast. The food itself was nice (cant really go wrong with a fry up) and the pot of tea was fine. However one of the chefs mates was sitting on the table behind me, so when the chef came out for a good chinwag with his buddy I could hear it all. Im not against lads discussing messy nights out, women he slept with or the fact that their settled friends are boring. I have a thing about the loudness of the conversation. And as it was staff, in my opinion not very professional.Again it is my opinion, but it annoyed me so I'm noting it down.

We visited the Boar's Head Inn at Crowborough today (19/6/24) for a Wake following the funeral of a dear friend. We were absolutely amazed at the wonderful spread that was provided. Both hot and cold food. Well presented and attentive service. Excellent! We have visited for lunch meals on a couple of past occasions and have always been impressed by the variety and quality of the food. Thankyou.

I’ve been to this place a few times now, when flying to and from Gatwick Airport. I’ve always been impressed by the staffs politeness and courtesy, going that extra mile. They are very dog friendly with treats at the bar, and water bowls provided. There has been a hansom, well behaved, and affectionate Australian kelpie dog there on a few of my visits. The rooms are reasonably priced have been consistently clean, tidy and comfortable during my stay. I would not hesitate to recommend The Plough Inn to any other traveller or patron.
