The best restaurants serving Chinese food in East of England

I shared my review of how disgusting this place was and surprise... it's been removed!

Hot & Sour Soup (5) was excellent. Decent Sweet & Sour Pork HK (4) and Thai Satay Chicken Skewers (5) were fab. Lovely Prawn Crackers (5). Mushroom chow mein (3) was more steamed than fried, maybe due to time in the container getting it home.

Complete rip off as it's the only one on the island and they quite clearly know that. Portions are very small terrible value for money. Taste was ok, dishes were hot

Decided to try one of their set dinners for two and eat in the restaurant on 26th April. They served us our starters but never did get the mains! We patiently waited approx. 40 minutes after finishing starters before asking why our mains had not arrived, a further 20 minutes then passed of us asking repeatedly, watching multiple takeaways go out the door and being told our mains were on the way before we gave up and realised we were being lied to. ‘Manager’ eventually emerged from the kitchen, was completely unapologetic, admitted our order had been lost between restaurant and kitchen but attempted to blame other members of staff rather than admit he was the failure. Feel sorry for the young girl working there who was trying her hardest but clearly being let down by poor management. I paid for the starters and drinks which we had consumed before leaving, on reflection not sure why as they deserved zero payment. Even making the payment the manager was extremely awkward demanding cash payment, then handing me a scrap of paper with account number and sort code on before eventually agreeing to use their card machine! Will never visit again and adding this review to help others not make the same mistake of trying to dine here! EDIT: Owners response to this review which he seems to have now hidden only reinforces how unapologetic and rude they are here. Response from the owner: "What a beautiful novel! With your talent, you definitely achieved a very high score on your university essays. However, there are some areas where you could improve your writing. I recommend you watch a TV program called Makka Pakka. It might inspire you to write an even better novel next time, perhaps you will write a prefect novel story in another food restaurant or takeaway when you visit them! Again Thank you for your story!”

It's such a shame, but since going under new management the food is utterly awful. Seriously, don't waste your money. The salt and chilli ribs we just fat and bone, with little to no meat. Yet, the meat that did remain had no flavour at all and just swam in a putrid puddle of grease. The special chow mein and special fried rice are a joke. 0 mixed vegetables and 3 small prawns and a few shreds of chicken that's drier than a flipflop In the sun. I used to love this place as a cheap Chinese treat and have been comming for 10+ years. However, I'd honestly rather vote the Tories back in than ever spend my hard earned money in this place ever again. And, I'd strongly recommend you do the same and boycot the Golden chef.

If I was you get someone else to deliver your food as I had a mistlbe male driver bring my food he was very rude I want be going back there no more

Today, May 16, 2025, we patronized the tasty restaurant. We have been patronizing it since we were at INTO. This is the third year. To be honest, the quality of the food today is top-notch. It is worth recommending everyone to come here to eat. In addition, some comments are not entirely true, you need to come and experience it in person. As for the service fee, you can apply for exemption because this is not North America :) This restaurant I highly recommend to all of you, they provide excellent service for today. In addition, if you like spicy food, please choose here. Finally, for some of the comments below, I would like to say we have to come and don’t trust the comments.

Been using here for about 10 years now, had to delete my 5 star review to 1 star, had a shrimp omelette and chips last week and it was lovely, had the same tonight and it disgusting, who ever cooked it put a few nice chips on top the rest was the worst greasiest chips I've ever had in my life.. Did he think I wasn't going to see the other chips under the top layer? And as for the shrimp omelette I had to throw it in the bin, it was burnt, greasy and disgusting, never ever would I use this place again.. I had to go hungry all night.. Would have took it back and demanded a refund if it weren't so far

We've had an order to collect from here a few times and have always been satisfied with the food. The staff are pleasant on both the phone and in person. If it wasn't so pricey in a cost of living crisis we'd probably eat from here more often

Staying in the tree house 5 minutes from here in the car. Ordered food. Was absolutely fantastic. Special rice. Lemon chicken. Salt and chilli chicken. Spring rolls 🔥 10/10. The lemon chicken was best I've had.

Really good food, always nice best chicken curry in my opinion. Also would like to say how lovely the lady on reception is, she is always friendly always polite and very professional when on the phone taking the orders ..

Amazing prawn balls, delicious Korean wings & lovely bean sprouts. Served in generous portion sizes.

I dont order takeaway very often, maybe once or twice a year, but have ordered many times over last 25 years from this shop.

Food was amazing if you are looking for a tasty Chinese this is the place to go friendly staff delicious food will defo recommend:)

ordered the sweet & sour fish and it was like rubber with a gluey sauce, the seaweed too sweet full of sugar, vegetarian soup also gluey, does not state the vegetable satay is tofu, just awful, but the worst was the sweet and sour fish - will not be ordering again for that money, spent £44, they got the pancakes right, vegetable rice
