Doesn't even deserve a one star review. Vegetarian dishes arrived with meat in it. Staff were rude and abusive to us when we pointed this out to them. Showed no remorse or empathy for their critical error. Avoid like the plague, food hygiene standards clearly not up to standard.

Delivered within 30 minutes of call, (40 minutes before stated delivery time) fresh hot food! As always….. no grease in the chow mein.. clean delicious food! 10/10 every time!

Gourmet Oriental used to be my favorite Chinese Restaurant as they offered a buffet all you can eat menu for years. The price of that would go up over time but that’s fine, what restaurant hasn’t done that? However, they have now stopped the buffet model and have switched to a standard menu. It’s such a shame but I appreciate that business have to adapt. Thank you Gourmet Oriental for all the memories. If they were to adopt the buffet menu again I would definitely go back.

I haven’t received my I order 2 hours ago and I have tried calling multiple times

I ordered at 7pm, then I had to go down at collect it at 10pm because it was taking too long then I had missing items in my order

Our delivery didn’t arrive after 3 hours so we had to get food from somewhere else

2 hours waiting so far. No idea what the food is like

Hello nobody has delivered anything to us?

The food and service were lovely and quick. Not pushy at all and did not mind us at all. The prices were decent, considering I have seen much more price for much less food. I think it was one of the most spectacular restaurant I've been to and is definitely in my top 5. Will come back here again.

Always go to this Chinese in Bishops Stortford. Love dining in, the staff are attentive and the food is always great! The buffet is a great price for how much food you can get, also always piping hot! We also have had takeaways from here and they’ve always been very hot and tasty!

Standards have slipped, portions are smaller, spring rolls are soggy, prawn toasts are burnt, dumplings are substandard. Delivery driver lady is always happy though. Sadly, won’t be ordering again

Sorry to say the entire meal was poor. The Thai green curry was just a very thin, clear source with a few onions and peppers. Not a rich green fragrant source we’d hoped for. The chicken tasted old, was tough and we left it. The crispy duck was acceptable.

Worst food and service ever. Starters and mains brought together to table! Small portion of "crispings" of duck for £10. Pushy to get us to finish and leave. I think they just want to do takeaways. Not like the old Michael Manns great restaurant.

Good was poor the pancake rolls tasted burnt and the crispy chilli beef had no sauce on it ,special curry very runny . Poor effort.

Thought I would give them another go but nope still terrible. A few dishes were overcooked so ruined the meal. Banana fritters in syrup came with absolutely no syrup.

Ordered a Thai curry and was very disappointed

Absolutely rubbish no taste chicken is water pumped gm stuff . The seaweed no crispy texture just tasted off. The starters were vile . I would of given no stars if I could if you want nice Chinese I advise rivermill as we always go there we wanted to try this as we were regulars when they did the buffet order off menu . This is now not worth the 65 pounds for one main course I veg I noodle combo starter

The mushrooms were very disappointing. Not a hint of bamboo shoots or water chestnuts. Basically tinned mushrooms with a random mix of veg - once again. Very patronising to serve this. Chow mein wasn’t the best. Do you have different chefs in the week? No free prawn crackers this time. Surely not another once great restaurant going down the pan.

I awkward order from here but the pancakes, hoisin sauce, satay sauce were awful! Pancakes very dry and thin seam cheaper? Sauce wasn’t peanuts enough and hoisin was very very watery shame

£5 for the smallest portion of seaweed you’ve ever seen - called the restaurant and she said ‘it is very small’ - not the best message for your customers. We subsequently binned the rest of our order after some dishes were cold in the middle - If you’re going to reheat food, at least do it according to food safety standards. Luckily ordered through a delivery app and received a refund - awful, unsafe food.

Ended up with severe food poisoning after eating here last night. Avoid at all costs!

consecutively the taste of the food we ordered was bland, we made a complain , I was told If we have started eating the food they will not change it, how on earth will you know the food is good. I will say they pretend not to understand english when we complained, because the issue of not understanding english did not come up when we ordered. will not recommend for any reason , because the issue of food quality happened twice and thats not coincidence and also bad customer service.

Delivered early and food good, but then noticed 2 items missing. Restaurant sorted promptly, but then noticed a 3rd item not delivered by which time to late to go anything. The odd missed item is understandable but 3 items in one order is concerning

Food is always good but the delivery driver has really put me off ordering from this restaurant again. You pay £2.50 for delivery and the driver won’t come to my door and deliver my food because I live on the fourth floor and they want me to go down to collect my order. I’m paying for door delivery!!

Our favourite go to Chinese for nearly 20yrs… but lately.. Crisoy Duck small, greasy & Chewy, Thai curry bland & watery, Chips not cooked & soft & the last Spicy Chilli ribs were cut into mini chunks & not pleasant? Why? New Chefs? Shame as been so reliable and tasty for so many years? Andy

Food was quite underwhelming, lacked flavour and the sweet and sour sauce was very sour not so sweet, the sauce in the beef and black bean sauce with green peppers was very loose and non existent, it needs to be thick and a lot more of it. Unfortunately there is a lack of options when it comes to Chinese takeaways in Stortford, we always use China City but that is closed until end of Aug

This is the worst chinese i have ever had my food was freezing cold, all bits of some kind of animal fur inside my dish, had rotten sides as i could see the kitchen and all the frozen foods was left laying on the sides open with flys and wasps landing on them!

Lovely food have ordered many times

We have been to this restaurant many many times over the yrs… we loved the all you could eat. It was fresh to our table and had plenty for everyone.. it was one of our favourites to eat at. Unfortunately this time we visited they had changed the menu from all you could eat (you could choose ur own dishes which we loved) to now a set menu.. for us it ruined the experience and as we as a group have different tastes it was difficult to get the food that we all liked for the set menu .. so we haven’t eaten there since. Which is a real shame as we loved it in there.. the all you could eat (variety of food) was what set it above from the rest of the Chinese’s.. I hope they bring back the old menu options

we received a takeaway, food was cold and not the usual standard and the lady who delivered was very rude to my husband who was trying to park on our drive as she was driving away.

I’ve been a customer for a couple of years now, however today the chow mein was delivered salty, and the texture of the chicken felt rubbery. The noodles were undercooked as well. The staff were kind enough to send the order again, however it wasn’t much better, disappointing.

Absolutely delicious!!!! Every single dish was the tastiest Chinese dish I’ve had, really full of flavour and fresh crunchy veg, no pre frozen soggy ones. I would prefer chopsticks next time but that is all. The wine was also great!

I payed nearly £5 for a pot of Seaweed just for me to get the smallest amount. Rip off.

Attended on a recent Saturday evening with family, 6 of us celebrating my birthday. Really enjoyed it, staff are lovely. Friendly and helpful. Food really good, very plentiful and they really looked after us. Reasonable prices as well. Would highly recommend

Had a lovely all you can eat menu here, sadly when we went to book again last week they no longer do the all you can eat menu. It's 20 miles from us so no longer worth the trip.

I've used Gourmet Oriental for many years, but finally had enough of their diabolical customer service. I phone to order a take away for delivery, was told it would be about 60 minutes but they would try to improve. After 90 minutes I phoned to see what had happened (understanding things can slip slightly), was told not cooked yet but should be soon, because we can get busy. Used this restaurant couple of times per month for probably over 15 years both private and business, as well as recommending them. This isn't the first time they let us down but will be the last, we'll use the Rivermill Chinese restaurant in future.

Diabolical delivery service. When ordered was told it would be 60 minutes after 90 minutes I chased up to be told its about to be cooked and will then be sent out. No apology just we get busy on a Saturday. Phone the Rivermill Chinese Restaurant in Bishops Stortford who delivered on time with a great product that I think was actually better than I've ever had at Gourmet Oriental.

Have always ordered from this Chinese. The majority of the time it is good with maybe one dish being over cooked. On this occasion it took over two hours to arrive, a dish was missing and it just generally did not taste great. As a family we feel we’ve given them too many chances so would not recommend.

Food was freezing cold considering they had just opened, the food didn't appear freshly made at all. Chicken balls were inedible and rock solid, sauce just a cold loop. Extremely disappointed considering the price. Still waiting for a refund / compensation. Will never order again from Gormey Oriental.

We were staying at a hotel by the airport before our holiday and decided to get takeout. Looking on Google this restaurant seemed to have lots of good reviews. We had intended to get food to take away, however when we got there we realised we could dine in. The restaurant had a good ambience about it and so we spontaneously decided to eat in. The staff were welcoming, accommodating and patient. We had our toddler with us and we had access to a high chair and prawn crackers which helped with the wait. As we hadn't anticipated eating out we had nothing with us; no coverall, no wipes, no toddler cup. But it was all ok which really gave us confidence for spontaneity with a little one! The menu had good choice and they cooked a mushroom Omelette for our toddler. The portions were great, and the food was wonderful; cooked just right with lovely flavour. We don't often get to eat out so it was really lovely to have the opportunity and be treated well - thank you!

2nd time ordered , but food not even close to edible this time Everything went in the bin. Delivered early and hot but the taste and food quality was not for human consumption.

We went to the Gourmet Oriental after a bit of bowling, had a set menu - starters were nice, wasn't as keen on the mains. The restaurant wasn't overly busy, but there seemed to be plenty of staff on hand when you needed another drink etc. It was all OK, no concerns or issues but also nothing in particular that I thought was spectacular enough that makes me want to speed back for another visit.
