The food was nice. However, potions were really small in fact toddler size. I had ordered mussels in chilli sauce for my main. I got 5, and for 10 pounds was quite expensive for what I got

Absolutely delicious!!!! Every single dish was the tastiest Chinese dish I’ve had, really full of flavour and fresh crunchy veg, no pre frozen soggy ones. I would prefer chopsticks next time but that is all. The wine was also great!

I payed nearly £5 for a pot of Seaweed just for me to get the smallest amount. Rip off.

Attended on a recent Saturday evening with family, 6 of us celebrating my birthday. Really enjoyed it, staff are lovely. Friendly and helpful. Food really good, very plentiful and they really looked after us. Reasonable prices as well. Would highly recommend

Had a lovely all you can eat menu here, sadly when we went to book again last week they no longer do the all you can eat menu. It's 20 miles from us so no longer worth the trip.

Diabolical delivery service. When ordered was told it would be 60 minutes after 90 minutes I chased up to be told its about to be cooked and will then be sent out. No apology just we get busy on a Saturday. Phone the Rivermill Chinese Restaurant in Bishops Stortford who delivered on time with a great product that I think was actually better than I've ever had at Gourmet Oriental.

I've used Gourmet Oriental for many years, but finally had enough of their diabolical customer service. I phone to order a take away for delivery, was told it would be about 60 minutes but they would try to improve. After 90 minutes I phoned to see what had happened (understanding things can slip slightly), was told not cooked yet but should be soon, because we can get busy. Used this restaurant couple of times per month for probably over 15 years both private and business, as well as recommending them. This isn't the first time they let us down but will be the last, we'll use the Rivermill Chinese restaurant in future.

Have always ordered from this Chinese. The majority of the time it is good with maybe one dish being over cooked. On this occasion it took over two hours to arrive, a dish was missing and it just generally did not taste great. As a family we feel we’ve given them too many chances so would not recommend.

We were staying at a hotel by the airport before our holiday and decided to get takeout. Looking on Google this restaurant seemed to have lots of good reviews. We had intended to get food to take away, however when we got there we realised we could dine in. The restaurant had a good ambience about it and so we spontaneously decided to eat in. The staff were welcoming, accommodating and patient. We had our toddler with us and we had access to a high chair and prawn crackers which helped with the wait. As we hadn't anticipated eating out we had nothing with us; no coverall, no wipes, no toddler cup. But it was all ok which really gave us confidence for spontaneity with a little one! The menu had good choice and they cooked a mushroom Omelette for our toddler. The portions were great, and the food was wonderful; cooked just right with lovely flavour. We don't often get to eat out so it was really lovely to have the opportunity and be treated well - thank you!

We went to the Gourmet Oriental after a bit of bowling, had a set menu - starters were nice, wasn't as keen on the mains. The restaurant wasn't overly busy, but there seemed to be plenty of staff on hand when you needed another drink etc. It was all OK, no concerns or issues but also nothing in particular that I thought was spectacular enough that makes me want to speed back for another visit.

Yes I eat in and it was very good,better than expected, Ive had better but we had the buffet and to be honest it was very good so I'd give it a 4.8 and also I have it delivered very regularly as a take away I'm not unsatisfied, maybe this might seem a little bland of a review but I give it a 4.8 stars many thanks as I will absolutely have it time again Nuf said

Delivery driver moaned as no light directly outside my house but they had a torch, then the food was small portions and was not nice. Very limited amount of meat in the special fried rice. Do not recommend.

Food took 2 hours to arrive, the phone number for the restaurant was disconnected, so zero communication possible. Then the delivery person had a go at me on the phone because "my address is hard to find" - it's just a normal house on a main road. Food was cold, and tasted fine but kinda of bland. One item was missing, another was swapped without any consultation. Very poor job

I don't want to harm the business, however because I care about people I am writing this review. I went to gourmet oriental in bishops Stortford by myself since I am local and I was nearby after going to the post office, i thought I might as well. I ate in and I ordered a fish soup, crispy sweet chicken and egg rice with a glass of water. I enjoyed the chicken, although the portion felt small it was appropriate to the rice. Although the rice looked like it was just rice with tiny bits of egg in it, it was nice. But the main course was not really my problem. It was the soup. I tried the soup earlier, but it was a bit hot so I decided to eat it after. I had asked for all my food to come at the same time. So I ate the main course and it was delicious. But the soup looked like it was splattered over the bowl. I ate a bit and it was ok, but the more I ate and some of the fishy bits in it were fine but some did not taste right. The problem I had I don't think was really with the fish. It was with the soup liquid itself. It was a bit odd tasted, but I accepted it, because at the time it was reasonable. As I had more, the taste became a little bit much and I stopped half way. I payed a fair price and walked out politely although I had a bit of a bad/sickly taste in my mouth from the soup. As I walked home 5 minutes later I started to feel a tiny bit sick and soon later I had puked up all the soup in public and then I felt better, although nobody really seemed concerned much that i had just puked up. It was dark at this time. I am glad I had the soup last. But this is not the first time I had an issue with the food. I sometimes ordered from oriental and the food was ok, but sometimes it was a little dry for noodles or a little odd tasted. This time was the last time. I'm not buying again from them and I advise others not to. If I did not puke up the soup after eating it last and drinking water I might not be very well right now. Please look after your food. Order from here all the time. Paid £40 tonight as a treat. Awful! The portions were a joke £7.80 dish in a half filled box. Dry chicken and no flavour in the Singapore noodles. Really disappointed won't order again sadly.

I walked in and ordered in person. I was told it would be quicker to ring and that it would be 15 to 20 minutes. In actual fact, I sat there for 30 or near as damn it. Their staff were pleasant but the furniture is basic including uncomfortable chairs if you have back problems. It's something of an echo chamber. Sat there as I was, it was embarrassing almost just how much of nearby conversations at tables were overheard; like it or not.

Food portions were super good and food came 30 mins early and was still very warm!

Just ordered a takeaway and was very disappointed with how little you get for your money. Very small portions and not very tasty.

We ordered chicken noodle, chicken satay and sweet and sour chicken and we didn't get our noodles shocking as we paid for everything

Food isn't what it used to be. Tonight's bill was £220 for 7 of us. Food seemed old & cold. Service wasn't great, but still 10% was added to the bill. We won't be back unfortunately.

Amazing place, and the food it's amazing, it's more amazing than anything else I have tried around here I recommend it 100%. The atmosphere in the place is very nice except from the music, in a place like this I would prefer to listen some Chinese traditional music rather mainstream commercial music like Ed Sheeran, etc. Small thing tho compared with the quality of the food and still my number one place to dine and for take away.

Just ordered a delivery from this place, the delivery arrived within about 30 minutes which was really quick considering I live about 10 minutes away from them, I was told on the phone it would be about 1 hour and 15 minutes, the food was disgusting and clearly not freshly cooked it tasted stale they probably just warmed up yesterdays food and delivered it to me, me and my whole family ate about a quarter of the food and then decided to throw the rest in the bin still hungry, very disappointed as I have ordered from here before and food food was nice, been trying to phone them to complain but it just keeps saying user busy what a waste of £50.

Bland, Over-priced, tasteless Swill. Is there any Chinese Chefs that actually taste the food they serve? It literally tasted of nothing.

Good food, hot food, friendly staff. Surroundings and decor basic ( no criticism).

Food/buffet was really tasty. Portions were good. It is quite expensive, though £23.90 pp. Minimum 2 people and you can't take food home obviously. There is also 10% surcharge. The spring rolls were crispy. It is all you can eat so you can ordr starters, mains in any order and all fresh. The toilet had no warm water and the pressure of warm water in female toilet was tickling only. We went on Tuesday 8pm and it wasn't busy. Spent around £52 for two with no drinks. Overall I recommend the place.

Unfortunately we will not be ordering from Gourmet Oriental again. The food delivery on a Monday night took 2 hours to arrive and when it arrived the food was so terrible, yes it was cold but the quality was also shocking, they must have changed chefs or be short staffed because we have previously had some good takeaways from there. We wasted so much food after having spent £60, we did not finish a single dish. Seriously disappointed and it is such a shame it's gone so downhill.

These people are beyond rude, when we complained about rhe food. The beef was like rubber, used to be good but 12 people agreed its horrible and their rude avoid !!!

disgusting would not recommend to my worst enemy. I found a hair in the duck when I showed the waiter she just said it's not one of ours as wrong colour. the hair still had the meat on it. food was disgusting. no taste. service was slow had to watch a group of ppl with a toilet roll on their table. picking their spots at the table next to me then put the dirty tissue on the table. made me feel sick. when ordered ribs we got one each. one chicken ball each . avoid at all cost

Awful take away, delivery man was rude. Tubs where half full and mediocre at best the chicken in penut sauce was vile and watery really stringy chicken too. The noodles tasted like cleaning product and the chicken balls where also stringy chicken full of fat and gristle. All round nasty. The rice was alright I mean it’s rice.

This has been a very long time due... you know how people wait for the one time a restaurant disappoints them with the unusual off day to give them a bad review? Well Just Eat shows me that I have now ordered over 30 times and I’m still waiting to be disappointed for the first time. Everything is just amazing!!! Food is scrumptious, mood and staff (when you actually are able to eat there) are so friendly and excellent! Can’t wait to order 30 times more and being left with the most satisfied feeling in my stomach. If you do go to eat in the restaurant I would like to give a shout to Ben! All the staff is amazing but we’ve been lucky to be served by him on numerous occasions and he’ll make your night!

Highly recommend this buffet. We tried the sweet chicken balls with noodles. It was very tasty. I collected our food. Very helpful and kind staff. Easy to use the website. Well done!

Take away only at the moment but meal was lovely

Have been using this Chinese for a few years, has always been great, the last two times I have ordered a delivery, I have placed the order literally when they open, last time waited 1hr45mins, was told food had left the restaurant, 25mins later (its 5 mins away) food turned up stone cold, got a full refund but left late in the evening with two very hungry children. Then tonight exactly the same thing happened, only now they have just ruined Christmas Eve!!!! Beyond angry, being a loyal customer means nothing ( worrying in these times, but again hasn’t really been affected as they’ve always been able to do take away) no Christmas film or family time as I’m now in the kitchen trying to knock up a dinner. Beyond disappointed, if you can’t cope with orders and delivery don’t take peoples money.

Food is reasonably nice but after eating (should’ve looked for it before), I came across the food hygiene rating for this restaurant / takeaway. They have a rating of 1 - major improvements necessary. Regardless of how the food tastes, I’ll never order a takeaway from there again until their food hygiene rating improves.

I ordered from Gourmet Oriental this evening as my partner and I felt like a nice takeaway. The reviews on here made us a little apprehensive, but both of us are pleased we tried it because it turned out to be a really nice meal. Our food arrived super quickly (approximately 20 minutes earlier than expected) and the portions were very generous. All of the food was well packaged, warm and delicious. Our favourite part was the king prawn balls in batter. They were large, crispy on the outside and soft in the centre. There is enough left over for breakfast/lunch, which is always a bonus. Chinese restaurants I have tried before have been a bit generic and I didn't order from them again. This meal was a real treat and I definitely plan to order in future. Thank you.

Egg fried rice was awful, tasted plain and dry was no egg in it. Just tasted awful. Curry sauce was the worst I've ever tasted. Made me feel ill and I definitely won't be going back. What a waste of ten pound

Very good place to eat Chinese I go again

Every time we come here the food is second to none and the service is impeccable - they make every customer feel special. They are simply wonderful.

We ordered a take away from here for our cheat night as normally we can't fault the food from here. However, we were so disappointed by the standard of food this time! The Thai curry was basically water with vegetables and the noodles were bland. We also commented on how the veg spring rolls were the most empty spring rolls we have ever had. It was 99% pasty and 1% filling. I must say the prawn balls were good though. It's so annoying when you look forward to a treat and you get so disappointed. I would be willing to give them another try one day but won't be in a rush.

Busy place because it's very good for choice and quality of service and food

Have tried here before twice, both times not very good, due to the pandemic our usual lee garden is shut...so thought we would give it one more try....noodles oily, curry like water, Thai rice disgusting and had crab sticks in??? Never heard of this!! And the spring rolls tasteless.....wish I had, had beans on toast! Whoever thinks the food here is good clearly doesn’t know good fresh food......never again!!

Just order family dinner, worst Chinese food ever, extremely salty black been sauce, other sauces like water, crispy duck old! Noodles floating in oil. Been ordering few times and it was usually quiet good, but today was a disaster! Don’t order from them! U lost a client forever!!! Thanks for spoiling family dinner!

Our first visit to Gourmet Oriental, and we weren’t disappointed!The staff were extremely friendly. The food was fresh and hot, and just perfect.We chose the buffet option which was around £18 per person, and (I think) great value for money, especially as the staff were pushing us to choose as much as we could!Definitely going back.

I went with a group of friends for dinner yesterday. I told the staff I was intolerant to gluten when i arrived. They were amazing, so attentive and caring, they helped me create dishes that were right for me. The food was delicious and so plentiful for a really reasonable price. I'd definitely recommend it if you have food intolerances/vegetarian etc (they can't guarantee for food allergies though). A big thanks to all the lovely staff.

This is my 2nd visit here and on both occasions it cannot be faulted. On the 1st occasion 7 of us ate and on this occasion 5 of us.

My wife and I walked in here per chance as she is fond of Chinese food, me not-so-much—that was until last night!

Better to go with two people to enjoy their all you can eat freshly prepared dishes. 20 pounds per head is well worth it for the variety. I believe some of the best Chinese food around.

Had a delicious meal here. We opted for the buffet, where you can choose your own type of Chinese tapas from an extensive menu. The food was fresh, well prepared and the people were super friendly!
