Golden Chef in Central Bedfordshire

Was very good in the past very bad experience this Sunday, had go back from Potton order still not correct Will not return.

A really nice Chinese take away after new owners come in. Love it. A nice quality of food and very local to myself. Going for a take away tonight.

This has changed hands and is now an excellent Chinese takeaway. I used it once before back in the day before the new new owners took over. Lovely family staff I am getting a takeaway tonight. Love it.

Really gorgeous food, first time ordering but very happy with the food and service! The woman I spoke to on the phone was so lovely, our address is a fair way out from the shop but they still delivered, our food was amazing! One of the best Chinese takeaways we’ve had, and a great price too with good portions. We’ll definitely be back! Thank you so much

Love those place, best Chinese for miles

This Chinese takeaway used to be very very good but today i was in and out in 5 minutes flat. I think my food had been pre cooked and reheated in the microwave. My home was close to the takeaway and when i got there i had to reheat my food before i could eat it to be food safe. I will never use this place again and would not recommend it to anybody order and eat at your peril.

Great food, better service and excellent taste! My choice for local Chinese takeaway at the minute. Keep up the good work! Update... We've just had the best ever Chinese takeaway from the golden chef! Not greasy, the ribs were on point and free prawn crackers! I won't be going to China express any time soon!

Place an order this evening and it was half full for what we had and paid phoned to tell them was not really interested just said come and get some extra noodles Ione small pot what a joke when got there no management to talk all out the back only young girl not acceptable will not use again . Over priced small amount and food oily stay well away RUBBISH

Was delicious. Had a terrible Chinese when I first moved to the area from another restaurant. Was reluctant to order a Chinese since. Was recommended by a neighbour and it was delicious. Really lovely. Friendly staff on the phone and delivery. Delivery was an hour (just over) which is to be expected. Recommend

Sad to say had the worst meal delivery last night cold ,special chow mien had no meats in it ? Ribs were so tiny & dry crispy chilli beef sweet & like eating dust , always been lovely don’t know why??!! Put me off a bit about ordering again 🥲

Daughter has tried it twice since newly moving to Sandy and raves about this place so decided to try. Good portions of freshly cooked food on collection, very reasonable compared to London but the only issue is that they don't take credit/debit cards.

I placed my order at 7.30pm and it arrived at nearly 9.00pm not only that but it was stone cold. I phoned up and complained only to be told that there was a mix up with the address and it was hot when it left there 😡

Ordered food at 6 o'clock (Sunday) food didn't arrive till 8:15. Cold and bland too. Ordered a chicken chow mein without bean sprouts or onions and got a chow mein (no chicken) with beansprouts and onions?!?. Wouldn't order from here again. Extremely disappointed

We get take away from The golden Chef for years since we moved to Sandy. They are by far the best Chinese in the area and we always laugh with the lady at the phone.

I cannot believe that the positive reviews are genuine. It is possibly the worst chinese I have ever had (and I have had a fair few in my time). The sweet and sour sauce tastes like dishwater. The prawn balls and prawn toast soggy. The crispy chilli beef....I dont even know what to make of it. I thought I would give this takeaway a go as I wanted to try all the different Chinese restuarants in Sandy and Bigglewswade....terrible mistake, never again!

Shocking,I can't afford to get wife and I a Chinese every week. I saved up to have a cold chow mein the driver spilt the sauce all over the bag. I'm a driver and the very least I would say sorry. I am really sorry to give this advice, I tried 10 times to get in touch with them,in summary I had cold food,leaking sauce,and nobody cares,I hope they read this and does something about it

Very good service over the phone for both delivery and takeaway 🥡. Both the owner who tells very funny jokes and the lady who serves on the phone are amazing. Tried China express when we first moved to sandy god knows why we did we tried golden chef never looked back such fresh ingredients amazing flavours such passion for food it is unimaginable the taste explosion definitely recommended

Excellent takeaway and reasonably cheap.

Very friendly lady at the reception. She was very helpful and very lovely. The food was very nice and the vegetables tasted fresh. It was also not too salty : salt levels were good so I could decide to add more to my preference.

Second visit to the golden chef, food was fantastic. Christine the owner is lovely, highly recommend. If you've not tried make sure ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Good size portions and full of flavour

We ordered for the first time last night as our usual chinese was closed. I’m glad we did, the food was amazing, full of flavour, good portion sizes. Delivery was great and food arrived hot, which coming from sandy to biggleswade was a bonus. Would definitely recommend.

Of the Chinese restaurants in the area, this is our favourite. We always book a delivery and the lady that takes the order is so friendly. Portion sizes good. Always delivered hot and on time. My favourite dish being mixed veg chow mein Singapore style...nice and spicy.

I ordered what i thought was a chicken curry which is generally my favourite but to find a bone which resembles a dog's K9has put me off from eating here again

Update, still love the food, still ordering vegetarian Singapore vermicelli, so tasty, I recommended the capital beef, its so delicious, the sauce is so flavorful, always The Golden Chef for our Chinese takeaway. The only place we would ever order Chinese food, will make vegetarian Singapore vermicelli noodles when asked, love the food love the service, and tonight's order arrived super fast!!

Decided to do a takeaway as all restaurants closed due to lockdown. I phoned through the order for delivery later in the evening. It arrived hot and on time. The food was excellent and there was plenty of it. It was good value for money. I will definitely use The Golden Chef again.

I've been using the Golden Chef in Sandy for 27 years & never had a bad meal yet! Ive live in biggleswade for the last 12 years & still get my food delivered as I cant find one as good.

The worst chinese ive had, so bland and chicken balls drip grease, my sweet and sour sauce was missed, i called them and the girl was very patronising. The lady who delivered was very nice though.

my boyfriend and i ordered from here and received chicken that wasn’t properly cooked and gave him food poisoning. food was pretty bland. at least the service was good and the lady at the reception was lovely.

The portion sizes were much smaller than they use to be and flavour wasnt great. Such a shame was always really good.

Meat in a fully vegetarian meal

Ordered a meal with only vegetarian dishes and found a piece of beef in one dish halfway through our meal. Disgusting and unacceptable in these days of allergy awareness in restaurants

Had a nice takeaway again best Chinese food ever got 1 part of the order wrong rang up and they sent it straight away great service

£5 delivery for a 2 mile journey seemed a little excessive. When ordering we were told it would take approximately an 1.5 hours. After 2 hours phoned to chase and was told they had tried to deliver and a phone call had been made (it hadn’t) was told it would be remade fresh, but after 2.5 hours from our initial ordering we were presented with our order that had clearly been warmed up. (Further proof in the fact that the plastic lids had their corners snipped to allow venting in a microwave)

After using the Golden Chef for several years and being very impressed recently this couldn't be further from the truth, my most recent order was mostly consigned to the bin, bland and greasy. Not nice

Went here last night for the first time... All I'm going to say is... I will definitely be back,food excellent, good portions, and welcomed by a very pleasant girl who knew the menu well and was able to describe the dishes on the menu,believe her name was Cynthia.

Efficient on the phone! Great value and really hot when delivered .Good size portions too. Don't give up on the redial on a Saturday evening!

Sadly, after going here for many years we won’t be back. We tried to call on an evening during the week to place an order and was unable to get through on the phone so we abandoned our takeaway plans. We thought we’d try again on a Saturday evening. We called 5 times but it was engaged every time. We wondered if they had closed so we decided to go to order and collect at the shop. We got there and they were open. One person waiting and 2 in the queue. We joined the queue while the girl serving was taking an order on the phone. She finished and returned to the genetlwman at the front who was trying to pay by card. The phone ring again and she answered it and then took the order from them. We waited. When finished she said to the man that the card hadn’t gone through and then the phone ring again. The man told her to leave it as his food would be cold so she picked it up and hung it up. It ring again and she did the same thing. This went on and on. The mans card payment never being authorised as every time the phone ring and she picked it up it cut out the card payment. We waited a good 15 mins but gave up and went somewhere else. A shame but we won’t be going back. I understand phone orders are lucrative but the customers in the shop are too. If it’s that busy they need someone on the phone and someone in the shop. Get another line for card payments - or just accept cash which is not ideal either but would negate the need for 2 phone lines.

After moving into the area we found this was out closest takeaway, and were blown away by the value and quality! Its fantastic food at a really reasonable price, always served with a smile. the staff are so friendly and chatty, and they always get it right! Wouldnt bother with any other chinese takeaways now.

Use To Be The Best Chinese Many Years Ago But Far From It Now. Food is nothing special and tastes of black salt in every meal which I can't stand. I try to stay away from here as I am always disappointed, either poor quality or bones etc. in the food. Also the lady is very friendly and chatty, but be careful because she short changes you (even on phone orders) especially when she knows you've been drinking. I sussed her out straight away first time ages ago and pulled her up on it, "Oh so sorry" she says, trying to skive a tenner! This has happened more than once!

Ordered a takeaway as usual takeaway China express was closed as was a Monday Egg fried Rice was awful and over cooked, Chow mein was awful cooked with old oil never again will I use this takeaway

Food was ok but avoid the chicken n black bean sauce defo not the best. Chicken was mainly fat pieces rather than chicken. Bbq spare ribs were dry. We have had takeaway from here before and has been nice but this evening's was very disappointing

Can not fault the service, quality of food and personality of those running this establishment. Always remembered even if it has been some time. Always happy to see you. Food is great with a wide selection, always hot and just on point. We have friends now who travel from other towns just to have this Chinese takeaway. Recommended to pick up as very prompt. Order over the phone and they'll tell you a time it will be ready for; its always been ready on arrival.Highly recommended!

Just ordered fried rice not fried just boiled with egg totally congealed microwaved before delivery beef curry tasteless with huge mushrooms and onion that didn't taste of anything oh and luke warm if I hadn't been so hungry would have sent back. Never again absolutely disgusting

Sometimes we have had nice food but a lot of times been rubbish greasy or just not much in e.g. special rice nearly only rice , wrong dishes sent and not any help of getting correct one , not using it anymore

I used to be a regular customer but will no longer order from here again.On the last 5 occasions the chicken was pink,tried to tell them this but was told this was normal would not recommend.

We loved the hotel and now use it regularly.... therefore have breakfast in the golden chef each time we stay ... however the evening meals available are good basic fayer with a little nice garnish

No tuve muchas expectativas al principio, cuando pasó por el lugar, pero me resultó equivocada. Yo soy super exigente con la comida china, he trabajado en una familia china para llevar durante años en el pasado, he comido desde muchos sitios de comida para llevar china y tengo que decir que este es uno de los mejores que he probado!

No habíamos usado el Golden chef antes, pero me apetecía llevar china y siendo un lunes, la China Express, donde nos solemos conseguir la comida, estaba cerrado.

Although our takeaway order was taken on the phone by a very amusing lady the food when it was delivered was fundamentally awful. The chicken in the Kung Po chicken was tough and old. The sauce used in the prawn dish seemed to be based on tomato soup. I have never had chow mein that consisted of some disgusting sticky substance. The chicken and salt with chilli was tough and cold and inedible as was the salt & pepper squid. It took one mouthful of both the starter dishes to realise how bad they were and the main dishes were not even touched just the look and smell was enough to put us off. £26 completely wasted. Back to the China Express !

Food is amazing. Huge portions - too much sweet and sour chicken for one person in my opinion! Lovely and hot....always ready on time....meat is lovely and tender....best in Sandy. Not pretentious and don't charge £1.50 if you swap your sauce!

We just tried this Chinese takeaway service tonight for the first time in a number of years. We have always used China Express in Sandy, but following a disappointing let down in delivery times on our previous order, we decided to try The Golden Chef.And we were pleasantly surprised!!First of all, the portion sizes are much more generous than some other restaurants, whilst quality and prices have been kept competitive. We had a 1/4 duck starter, which was more than enough for the 2 of us, then one main dish each and we shared a large special rice. The special rice contained a surprisingly good quantity of meat, and was not oily like some rices can be. My duck with pineapple was very nice, if not with a bit more fat than my liking, but hey, it's a duck dish and is to be expected sometimes. My wife's beef with Chinese mushrooms was also very nice, but was the only dish a little bit "light" on the meat front.The second thing that impressed me was that when we were quoted 20 minutes for collection, I arrived 19 minutes later and it was ready!!!! Take note here other Chinese restaurants, who have sometimes quoted 45 minutes for collection, and I've still been stood waiting 1.5 hours later!!! The food was hot and well packaged, and the staff were polite.All in all, a good return to this service for us. A bit more beef in the wife's dish would have made it perfect, but overall, great value for money.

Their food is the best in Sandy but service not good recently and customer care pretty abysmal. Will darken their 'phone lines no longer and will miss their chicken and sweet corn soup but will not be messed around !
