China Express in Central Bedfordshire

We absolutely love the Chinese here. Whenever I come down (from north east) I always have to have a Chinese and this is our choice. Never a bad meal, love the taste of the Chinese curry. I don't usually eat meat from Chinese takeaways as don't like the way it's cooked but from here the chicken is always a hit in their Singapore vermicelli.

Had a delivery. Ribs very very dry and burnt. Prawn sweet and sour old oil. Not impressed at all and quite expensive.

Order was missing items, called the restaurant to ask for my items. Was told we didn’t order it, however we were charged. Extremely expensive, cold, dry food with no flavour. Won’t order again

Awful customer service, sent wrong order then blamed me for ordering wrong even though I went through it twice with them in front of four other people, terrible, terrible, terrible, this place used to be good, been coming here for 20 years, not the first time they have screwed up the order or on one instance take 3 hours to deliver, will never go to them again. Would actually give them a 0 if I could.

What a terrible experience!! Food cold, my Grandson had a 5inch black hair in his duck and fruity plum, will never, never eat from here again!! They should be closed down.

Absolutely disgusting service, I ordered £80 worth of food,and they delivered the wrong food. I ordered kung po chicken, When I rang and asked them to sort it they blatantly called me a liar and said I ordered prawns! (I dont even like prawns why would I order them) avoid at all costs! This is the third time in a row they have messed up the order, and the 3rd time they have been rude when asking them to put right what they have done wrong.

Called for a home delivery, lady on phone rude and put the phone down on me! Called back, placed my order which did arrive in the hour but wrong sauce.

It’s ok food was cold so had to reheat but tasted good took around 1hr to come which isn’t bad. Pretty pricey for the portions that came.

Excellent food, second time we ordered from here. Stayed to wait for our takeaway order. Food was hot and very tasty. We only waited 10 minutes for our food to be ready.

What a great Chinese takeaway and restaurant 😋 this place has the best Chinese food for miles around and always great service as well. They don't normaly take card payments but there's a convenient free cash point less than 20 metres up the road and its well worth it

Hak and Monica are amazing hosts, their team is well placed to prepare and serve one of the best chinese take aways in the area, and to make the experience more enjoyable, you can watch the chefs prepare your food in an open kitchen. Highly recommended for lovers of Chinese food

Good food but i was charged more than what I was told on the phone when I ordered, apparently this was a delivery charge added on, even though my order was forgotten, the food was an hour and a half late and it takes 2 minutes to get to my house from the establishment. Called to ask and i just got a repeat of the prices of the food i ordered, no understanding or good customer service. I would have gotten it myself but single parent with a small child already in bed 🤷🏻‍♀️ not a massive problem but it has really put me off.

Excellent pit expensive but worth every penny. Best Chinese I've ever had portions were feft the women behind the cooks area look scary bit is really nice I just would want to pis her off heard the way she speaks to her young employees

Hits the spot every time. We have been ordering from China Express since we moved to Sandy 4 years ago and every time our food has been spot on. Sometimes it taken some persistence to get through on the phone and delivery is sometimes longer than normal but it’s well worth the wait and always arrives hot.

Birthday treat and really enjoyed. Usually I prefer tai, but there was nothing wrong with this. Good, service, friendly staff, all what I wanted for my birthday, thank you .. we will visit again

I have eaten in the China express many times since moving to the area, a first class experience. Cannot rate highly enough.

If you phone in an order it is almost always ready in just 10 minutes.

Probably the best chinese I have ever had. I always order the same thing each time and that's because they do it so well! The Crispy Squid is so good. Along with their chow mein. I dont think you can go wrong ordering from here. Lovely service when we call and a very nice atmosphere when you eat in. Defo 5 stars.

Rude, the dish’s were cold and wrong, when we called up to explain they have given us the wrong dish they told us we ordered cold chicken, it looked like left over roast chicken with peanut sauce, which was supposedly “bang bang chicken” , they were very rude, will not be ordering from here again.

The best Chinese Restaurant in the UK. We travel from Reading just to experience it. Always fresh, hot and delicious. Also the nicest waistcoats.

Last lot of food Sunday 5th November wasn't the best, chicken was dry and tasteless. But everyone can't be perfect all the time. Previous to this we've always had a lovely order of food. Good portions, taste and not greasy. I was never a fan of Chinese food until I ate at this place, now I crave it every weekend.

First time we had been here, great service, lovley staff. Food was 10/10 came out fresh! Staff would check we had all our dishes that had been ordered and was nice to see management on the floor helping out as a team! Look forward to next time!

Wouldn't even give it one star if I could! The customer service is shocking, didn't even bother tasting the food after the way they argued with us about something missing from the order! They read the entire order back to me (6 items) then blamed me for not ordering it in the first place and said we hadn't been charged for it anyway. Really not the point! We then said we want the item and we'll pay, but it would be delivery in 45-60 mins, when we live a 3 minute drive away. Extremely bad first impression and will be advising others not to use!

Excellent food smoked chicken and pork dumplings to start. Followed by seafood stir fry and crispy lamb to fill the lettuce leaves and hoisin sauce (my favourite not on many menus). Open kitchen great to watch the chefs etc and big clean and tidy restaurant. Wine £9 a large glass little naughty. Easy to park close by. Also do take aways from a separate door.

Having not used China Ex for a while since we last where unable to pay by card we thought we would give them another try as a friend had recently been able to pay for a takeaway by card. When he collected and had no cash the chip and pin machine suddenly was available! Again though tonight we called to order and were told rather abruptly that it is cash only for takeaway’s… we could have paid by card if we had eaten in the restaurant…….. not sure why the card machine works on one side of the counter but it’s only cash in hand on the other!

The place was nearly empty, went in and asked for a table for two and we were told no because they were busy with takeaways. Never heard anything like it.

Great food, reasonable prices. The service is really fun and it's nice to have the open kitchen layout. The name evokes the wrong image for the restaurant, as it's a lot more than a takeaway.

Been here a few times and the food is always of a high standard, although a little pricey. On this visit, however the standard of service let the evening down. It was clear from the start that they wanted us in and out as quickly as possible. They obviously wanted everyone out by 10pm, this may not be unusual for Sandy, but we will think twice before visiting again.

Used to be really good but has gone downhill lately

Whilst the food is good, but not great, chinese the service left much to be desired. Out of 8 main courses ordered, 2 were forgotten and one was wrong which meant that our group had literally 2 sittings for meals, some had finished before the meals of others arrived. A request for an adjustment of the bill was ignored.

Delicious food served quickly, big portions and very adequately priced. Can't go wrong here at all

Love a good chinese this one always hits the spot

Always have a carry out from here never go anywhere else as I have a bad reaction to MSG's which China Express don't use. However this last time the meal wasn't very hot and I had a headache the next morning, one of the symptoms of eating something containing MSG's so unsure now if we will use China Express again.

Absolutely lovely meal tonight, we regularly order a takeaway from China express and it doesn’t disappoint. Rare night of from the kids tonight and we had a lovely meal. Excellent Service. Good Atmosphere in the restaurant. All the food is cooked lovely and very tasty. Portions are very good, went down lovely with a glass of wine. Smoked chicken is one of the best dishes ever. I have this regular. Thank you Monica, Hak & all staff. :) look forward to the next meal.

We have used China Express for years and have never had a bad meal however recently whenever we have ordered a takeaway, either for delivery or collection we have been unable to pay by card! This is despite China being a large restaurant with card payments being accepted in the restaurant area. Staff have given lots of excuses for this but none that make any sense. I’m assuming this is to avoid costs, possibly associated with card payments…… but whatever the reason it is poor customer care / service and on this occasion has resulted in a very large order (over £300) being lost to another business with much better customer care! Don’t bother using if you use basic 21st century payment methods!

Food wasn't bad but found it expensive.

We ordered a takeaway for home delivery. We were very very disappointed. We’ve had Chinese food before and this was by far the worst. It very flavourless. The vegetable rice had egg in it so the vegan with could not eat, nothing tasted great. It was such a let down, needless to say we will not be ordering from them or going there ever again.

Absolutely amazing meal , the food was sensational , service was fabulous, the owner ,a delight to deal with and he was incredibly polite and extremely hospitable. Stayed there for over two hours , staff were very attentive and efficient. A wonderful evening all round.

Lovely food , great service and nice staff I would certainly eat here again .

So usually when I order from here it's a wonderful meal but service the last 2 times have been awful, i have called and placed a order they have gotten a dish wrong, upon calling and talking about it I have been faced with a rude young individual instead of apologising and being nice to the customer they argue back with a attitude. I understand its a hard line of work I work in customer care my self in a busy cafe, but never have I ever treated customers like this and shut off from them they way I was treated on the phone. I have paid alot of money for the meal I wanted and didn't get l, 2 times this has happened and I wish I went to the Jade Garden in Biggleswade as they are very friendly and treat you as family. This doesn't go against the rest of the restaurant however, the people who own and run China express are wonderful and kind but it's the 2 young individuals taking the phone orders who make us want to go else where.

The restaurant serves delicious food, cooked in a fully visible kitchen. Once service stopped, there was a mass of activity cleaning everything in the kitchen. Service is attentive and thoughtful without being intrusive. We had a lovely time. The food was awesome.

this Chinese is so good i couldn't believe how good it was you would struggle to top this place you couldn't find better in china town i no people who drive from Norfolk just to eat in this restaurant incredible food

I get a delivery every week from here. The food it through the roof amazing! Never had any horrible food or any problems with anyfood from here.

What do you think about eating spare ribs ,asking for an extra hand wipe having used first one half way through so as not to get my glass sticky The response from the manager was No go wash your hands in toilet Plenty soap!

China Express is wonderful. Staff and food amazing. No faults at all, everything was perfect. Clean premises. Would highly recommend. This is second visit in a week.

Another supposed one hour delivery and and after two hours nothing at all. Same old same old, called and it hadn't even been cooked.

The food is just simply out of this world! This isn't your average Chinese takeaway, very bold and powerful flavours at a reasonable price. Quite a few of the dishes can be made gluten-free and the staff were incredibly helpful on providing guidance on allergens, so this is a great option for coeliacs! I highly recommend China Express!

Went for a take away today to be met with cash only sign. Another food shop in sandy gone down this route, maybe a one off but why are these places getting away with it? Will not return.

Normally I would give an outstanding review with 5 star rating but Saturday had to be the worst food ihad ever had from here king prawns in satay souce had four prawns loads of onion and very little sauce. Singapore rice noodles very grainy as spices not cooked out and big chunks of chicken where as normally prawns lucky for me the sweet and sour king prawns with curry sauce where up to standard.

Awful service! Cancelled my order, on collection said sorry then took ten minutes to sort! Then forgot things from the order and blamed us! Shambles

So, since moving further out to Biggleswade, naturally, being a North Londoner, searching for good takeaways is important, as we are used to a plethora of 'good'ns'. I started around Biggleswade and soon realised the standard was average at best, so started to search further afield - Potton and Sandy were the next stops. Potton, to be fair, is pretty decent, much better than Biggleswades offerings. I then tried this one at Sandy and IMO it is the best round the area. To test this theory I then went 2 minutes up the round to the other Chinese in Sandy and wished I hadnt bothered, as that was the worst of the lot! Chinese Express has a takeaway and restaurant area that is always has activity which says a lot about it. I have never had a delivery but, instead I have always collected, and never been dissapointed. Never will I cheat on you again China Express - lesson learnt, from now on I will stick with what I know

Small portions and expensive plus the food was cold when i collected. Spent £25 and they don't even give prawn crackers with a meal, which I'm sure is normal with all chinese. Underwhelming and won't be going back.

The best kept secret in Sandy! Food is just amazing, service is first class, staff are wonderful, place is modern and spotlessly clean, you will not be disappointed and you can also watch them cook the food. Cant wait to go back, well done Garry and staff for making us feel so welcome and making it an enjoyable birthday evening for my wife.

What can I say, apart from the food here is excellent, the service is extremely quick (order by phone, collect in 10 minutes - on a Friday evening!) - thank you China Express! Update : popped in to order this time and again, so quick - around 5 minutes to order, cook and collect a meal for 3 people - very impressive 🙂

I like that you can see the staff cooking the food in the very clean and open kitchen and they were all wearing hats and masks. The food and the service was excellent.

Phone to make order to pick up at 7,40 on the first of feb 2022 Looked on line and checked that you close at 9 so I didn't order to late I rang 6 times no answer but not just that the phone was picked up and put down on me without a word, then you barred my number If you dont want the business just answer the phone and tell me .

Bought the Sweet & Sour King Prawns and they were absolutely delicious, would definitely return for more, as it's quite out of the way for me so will visit whenever I'm driving past it. Service was great, good was great and prices are pretty good.

Ordered a pad thai which should have chicken and prawns in it. The pad thai I know has ginger, garlic, chili with soy sauce, lots of chicken, vegetables and Prawns. This one consisted of 2 small slivers of chicken, 2 Prawns and the noodles were in a sweet and sour sauce (which I hate) so the whole thing ended up in the bin. I ordered from China Express before and haven't been disappointed but this was a huge let down. Won't be getting this dish in a hurry..

Absolutely superb service and delicious food. Not too heavy and not at all greasy. Loved every mouthful and will be back again. The staff were amazing with my little boy and the service was so quick. I moved to Sandy in January 2021 and must say have had loads of takeaways and sat in to eat a meal never been disappointed lovely tasting food

Well, this restaurant is awesome we always have a fabulous meal here. We started with prawn crackers. Spring rolls and a delicious hot and spicy vegetable soup. Followed by sweet and sour cod in crispy batter also with cod in batter with vegetables +bean sprouts with noodles and egg fried rice, I had for my dessert banana fritters in maple syrup and vanilla icecream. We had drinks consisting of mint tea draught lager and black coffee to finish, all in all our evening meal was fabulous, we had a lovely time speaking to one of the owners Hak, it was nice to have a chat.

Excellent local Chinese restaurant the best for miles around. Not particularly cheap, but you pay for quality and good food so very happy to endorse them. Always very efficient upon collection and provide a good range of food.
