The best restaurants serving British food in South Wales

Friendly staff made you feel very welcome. We were able to sit out the front and enjoy some lovely food. Thoroughly enjoyed , will be back thank you 😊

Great food, location and staff. A bit slow on the ordering but that's because it's was busy. Far better the the worms head hotel.

On entering the building I asked to be seated at a table near the heating as I knew from previous occasions in this building (different restaurants) that it could be very cold in here. We were duly sat near a radiator and were warm enough. We had booked for the 8 course taster menu, which was absolutely delicious and great value too. Staff were pleasant and efficient. We’ll definitely be returning again sometime soon.

A quick visit while returning home, and found staff friendly, as we hadn't booked a table found a place in the snug. Chose pub classics of fish and chips, and lasagna, both did not disappoint, as the fish was moist and the lasagna had flavoursome beef.. and although only a brief visit would recommend the short diversion from the A roads.

We contacted the pub online to enquire about holding a wedding with them and they didn't respond so while in the area one day we popped by to have a drink and speak to manager about arranging a meeting, they were holding a wake and made it quite clear they were too busy and we weren't welcome, they wouldn't accommodate us even sitting outside to have a coffee a chef took down our details saying they would contact us within a week, it has been a month and we have heard nothing, following it up felt a little pointless now. It is a real shame, this venue was sentimental as my parents had also had their reception here and my father has since passed, we would have spent a lot of money with them as we would have required accomodation but the whole experience has left us not wanting to return. I am glad the establishment is thriving but it is not a nice feeling that your business is not wanted and it is quite unprofessional to not get back to people.

The food here is really good , far from typical pub grub. I will definitely be back! The belly pork was incredible, and the lasagna was the best I've ever had.

I was promised a world class breakfast by poison dwarf (Lorraine!) but unfortunately the breakfast room was more like a ZOO than a B&B with animals running around! Appalling!

The food was very nice, slightly pricey, but enjoyable. We were seated quickly, and the waitress was polite and attentive. However, when it came to the end of our meal, I asked for a receipt as I was on a business trip. The waiter informed me that only his boss could provide one, but he was away on holiday. He took my details and asked me to call back the next day. When I called the following day to request the receipt, the boss of the waiter was unexpectedly aggressive and defensive. I even had to ask him to calm down over the phone, something I’ve never had to do in a professional setting. While I did eventually receive the receipt, the interaction left a very poor impression. Unfortunately, due to this experience, I won’t be returning.

Had a steak you cook how you want it. The steak was outstanding quality. Obviously i cooked it the way i like, but the steak and sauces and chips were amazing. Service great too. Pre-book, do not just turn up for this special steak as the cooking stones take over an hour to heat up Awesome steak, great service, lovely evening.

We have had many delicious meals at this excellent restaurant over the years and the standards remain consistently at the very highest. Trevor has recently introduced a new and extensive menu that caters to every type of palate. The variety of dishes on offer is exciting and the food is perfectly prepared and cooked. At a recent visit our party chose dishes that included a glorious home made pate, charcuterie board, freshly prepared soup, and gravadlax as starters, followed by main courses of exquisite belly pork with black pudding, fish, several burgers from their wide range, and halloumi pie. In a visit a couple of weeks ago my wife and I had mixed grills that were the best that we have ever tasted, with portions that were exceptionally generous. If you are able to reach the desert course a choice of tempting delights awaits you. We have never been disappointed in the wide selection of wines on offer, whether red, white, or an outstanding Prosecco. Trevor's attentive, friendly and welcoming staff are utterly professional and very knowledgable about the food and drink available. They really do take care of you and add to the enjoyment of the experience of dining at the Woodlands. Our daughter and her fiance have decided to hold their wedding ceremony and reception here and have had the most supportive advice and guidance in their preparations. The venue and function room are attractive and well laid out, and everyone involved in the arrangements for the day cannot do enough to help. This is truly one of the outstanding dining venues in Wales and we cannot recommend a visit enough.
