Could have better options,I wasn’t all that impressed with the time I had to wait for food considering it was not busy at all. The portions was a fair size but I was not all that keen on returning again. Staff was amazing

I love this old Pub! I always order my Sunday lunch to take away from the little gem of a pub. Every time I go I feel welcomed, food is always fantastic quality and the staff are great. Nice to see the old locals having their Sunday pint and catching up. Well run, efficient and decent quality food. Never have a complaint. Thank you guys :)

What a diamond of a find, fab place really good value for money,. Very helpful staff who went the extra mile as I’m gluten intolerant and found me something I could eat. Everything cooked from fresh not av’ping’ meal in sight.Lovely little touches as they are dog friendly and even think of little things like lady’s items in the toilet . Overall a fab place to go and will definitely be going again, thanks guys

Had issue with the heating and it was a cold day so going to go back as giving it any rating would be unfair at the moment. We ate off the lunch menu so portions were adequate foe the prices. Have an Thai section on the menu which isn't available until after 5pm so going to go back and try that

After travelling the country and abroad This pub and the staff are exceptional, always provide quality food and customer satisfaction of the highest. There Blue stone steak was outstanding the best I've ever had and the guest ales are superb. The atmosphere is second to none and Id highly recommend this pub and it's staff. With a special mention to the cook who always Cooks with exceptional standards. Always pleased to eat here again and again.

Just had Sunday lunch delivered. The food was fantastic and given the generous portion size great value for money. It was delivered in very good time given that they were incredibly busy. Recommended it to other members of the family who put in their order straight away.

9 of us had a meal & drinks at The Oak on Saturday 19th August 2023. Despite it being busy the service was good. The staff friendly and accommodating. We had several different meals chosen from the extensive menu. Everyone of us had a delicious meal. Thanks to all for a great night.

Best Steaks we've ever had. We ordered the Blackstone steaks which you pretty much cook yourself at the table. The quality was superb. We will definitely be returning.

Stopped in for dinner on way to a rugby match, Great food and service. Had the Wednesday Steak Special, absolutely beautiful, kids had the lasagne and the toad in the hole, loved it and cleared their plates, can’t recommend it enough.

Went for Sunday lunch. Reserved a table as it gets busy. I eat Sunday lunch once a year on Xmas day so it wasn’t my thing but went along with my sisters. I do not eat veg and asked for none on my plate. I just had beef , roast potatoes and new potatoes and have to say it was delicious. The food was piping hot. Beef was so tender. The veg was carrots , broccoli and cabbage. My sisters said they were really nice. There were four cleared plates at the end. We had desserts. Raspberry roulade. That was delicious too. I presumed it would come in a bowl but was really well presented on a plate. The staff were all happy , smiling , friendly and accommodating. It cost £10 for lunch and £4.50 for dessert and well worth it. Will be visiting again very soon.

Food was excellent but service was sooo poor prob the poorest service in a pub got given our food and no cutlery so after waiting to try get someone we ended up getting our own knifes and forks . Werent asked about the condiments such a shame for let down of service good chefs though

Attended yesterday (30/4/2023) for the 1st time where I had Sunday lunch Allocated a table basically straightaway where both drinks & food was served fairly quickly Really enjoyable but the only downfall I will say is the portions are very small & a little expensive compared to other establishment's...

Lovely burger the other night, homemade chips spot on too. Other half had a curry and was really tasty. Good portions. Daughter had sausage and chios and was nice to see the sausages weren't the usual rubbish they serve everywhere else. Was a little slow when first went in and was a bit worried but the food was spot on 👌

We have passed here several times and on this occasion on our way to pick up a friend for lunch, we decided we would try here having passed it so many times, we phoned ahead as it was Xmas week, advised they were doing food between 12 - 2 and plenty of tables available as the were quite. When we arriced we were told they would have to check there was room ( 3 adults and a child) there was a large party already there but plenty of tables free. We advused we had phoned 20 mins prior. The lady retuned to say we could have a table but there we could only have basket meals, we were very disappointed our friend is vegataian and no basket option for her. The food arrived, extremely small portions, nice enough but not able to leave a review of the of something Im able to cook at home Not sure why this happened as it was well within the 12-2pm, there were plenty of tables ans we had been told they were quiet and had no bookings on the phone Seems like its a local pub for the locals and they arent really bothered about accomodating anyone else We wont be returning

So we had a visit last week with friends, so a party of 6. The service was prompt and friendly. The food was hot and tasty. One friend had not had their food when everyone else had theirs, but without mentioning it to the staff, one of them came over with an apology, a free beer and no charge for their food. It was such an amazing response to something that wasn't really a big deal. Great work guys, very impressive.

We had a fabulous few hours at nearby Parc Pentallta Country Park admiring the 200 meter sculpture of Sultan the pit pony carved into the Welsh landscape.  The country side was absolutely beautiful with lakes and we enjoyed a really long walk. Prior to our visit we booked a table at the Ye Olde Royal Oak for a traditional Sunday roast dinner.  On arrival the pub was very busy (lots of families and children) and we were met by a lovely member of staff who showed us to the table.  Our table was spotless and we all ordered the beef roast dinners.  The dinners were scrumptious, served with a selection of vegetables, mash potatoes, roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding and homemade gravy. The beef was moist, the fresh vegetables were cooked perfectly and the portion sizes were generous. For desserts we ordered spotted dick with custard, strawberry cheesecake, chocolate sponge cake and two caramel brownies. The desserts were spot on and tasted delicious. We will definitely return again, because we were made to feel apart of the community, there was a fantastic menu (children meals, breakfasts, vegetarian, classic pub meals, steaks, curry nights and burgers), the food tasted amazing.and was great value for money.

First time visit and I'm blown away by the service, the staff were so friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. The food was beautiful, my only gripe was the veg was cold but it was a busy service. So apart from that - amazing. I'll definitely be back for food. Highly recommended.

Food was nice but had a lump of chewing gum under my plate. Though it could well of been blue tac my table was clean when I sat down it was only when I picked up the plate I saw what looked like chewing gum. To be honest the staff were busy .

Twice I have been here for afternoon tea and it blows every other place I've been to for afternoon tea out of the water.

This is the best place for Thai food in and around Ystrad/Caerphilly. The Thai food is very very good, the only issue is the limited menu but I can highly recommend.

Visited the Pub restaurant today and must say that it was the best meal i have had in a very long time even pre coronavirus. I had the Thai green curry, rice and chips. The curry was absolutely delicious, the rice and even the chips too were something special. I chose chicken for the curry, it also had the most gorgeous vegetables in it, the chips were crispy and coated with something although i am not sure what they were lovely and fluffy inside. All social distancing measures were adhered to. I will most certainly be returning to this pub.

Had one week before lockdown just ok cakes are not the best for the money not all homemade nothing I can’t get in the shops and the the food did not have much taste not worth the price tag !!!!!!

Was reluctant to try the food here as we had such a bad experience a few years ago, but I must say we were pleasantly surprised, food was amazing, looked and tasted homemade, reasonably priced, friendly staff, premises clean and well maintained, my only moan is that it took a little to long for food to come out, I understand that fresh food takes longer to cook but it took about 45mins for food to come to the table, the chef appeared to be on her own. Even so it won't stop us from returning we will definitely be back, JOHNNY ENGLISH TAXIS will be recommending the ye old royal oak to our customers in the area who ask us for a good place to eat.

I live locally and had been hearing good things about this pub so me and my partner decided to pop in for Sunday lunch warm welcome from staff on arival, we both had beef dinners 4 veg cabbage cauliflower peas and carrots lovely crispy roast potatoes and rich beef gravy we were both very full and happy we will be popping in again and would recommend you try it .

Went out for Sunday lunch. My husband usually complains when we do however not a complaint in sight. Portions were great. The food itself excellent. Beautiful roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. Meat was moist and tasty. We had chicken. Topped off with apple pie and ice cream and chocolate brownie with ice cream. Great value for money. We would highly recommend a visit.

Visited 24 /1/2020 I ordered chill con carne which come in small bowl 8 chips and rice which was cold and stuck together the pub was cold as the window broken and a wire hanging out of it the wife used the toilet to find one of the seats was taped together the homemade gravy as advertised was not homemade as you could see the granules in the gravy boat will not visit again

Well I rang at 12.00 to make an order for a takeaway for 1.00 when I got there to pick it up had to wait another hour for my dinner. And to top it off only veg on the plate was peas. I’m sorry that’s terrible for what they charge for a dinner would of thought you would get more than just peas

Evening out here and ordered the Christmas bench. Wow!! It was amazing could not fault any of it, from the table decorated to the food it was all 5* with great service

Members of Boot Rd Allotment had their Christmas dinner here last Thursday. We had an excellent evening. It was an unanimous decision that we come back for our next get together. The food was excellent. I had the beef which was superb and similar comments were made about all of the other choices. The staff were really attentive and helpful and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. We were all well impressed.Thanks to everybody at the Royal Oak for a really enjoyable evening.

Well I have to say I had a home delivery of Sunday lunch from the Royal Oak Ystrad mynach and full complements to the chef it was stunning and very reasonably priced. The pub has improved greatly in decor and the staff can’t do enough for you. I’m not one for writing reviews but would highly recommend this village pub it’s a little gem. I must say Mary who works out front is a diamond.

A friend had suggested we go for a Christmas themed afternoon tea after work with some friends. I haven't been to the Royal Oak in years so it was a very pleasant surprise. The pub is fairly traditional still but is undergoing some refurbishment which doesn't detract from it's traditional feel. The seating area didn't make you feel claustrophobic and we had ample room given we were there at 5.15. The food itself was the star of the show. Many places nowadays have cottoned on to afternoon tea in many guises and the Royal Oak is no different except that what we had was a little unusual. Served on a two tier slate tray we had a deconstructed Christmas dinner; 2 mini Yorkshire puddings each containing a stuffing ball and a pig in blanket respectively; a mini brioche roll contain sliced meat and a small basket of amazing proper crispy roast potatoes with a gravy boat containing a gorgeous thick flavoursome gravy. Then for desert, the tray contained 2 cheesecakes in mini jars. A minty aero cheesecake and a Baileys flavoured one. Also on the tray were a red velvet cup cake, a mini Christmas pudding, marshmallow snow man, a chocolate coin and a Christmas tree shaped gingerbread cookie. All of this was served to us while we sat on a beautifully decorated table. The food was nothing short of awesome, really. Good flavours, excellent presentation and attentive staff complimented the experience. I would definitely recommend the Royal Oak afternoon tea experience. We spoke to Lisa who was the chef who explained that they can tailor the food upon request so if your thinking about afternoon tea, give the Royal Oak a try. You won't be disappointed!

We are regulars here Sunday lunch is very nice big portions and gravy is best about, mid-week roast on Wednesday is very good. The only thing letting it down is the restaurant area is very dated but I understand its had work done so look forward to seeing that.

Found this little gem by accident and we are so glad we did! Afternoon tea with a diffrence. Roast potatoes to die for and the gravy was like mothers milk. The puddings were stunning and this comes from a guy who doesn't like his puds. Quality was of the highest standard and the staff were friendly and attentative. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon. We will be back.

We had a selection of meals here lamb, beef curry and pad thai we were all happy with the quality and value. The oak has undergone some much needed redecorating, it was looking very welcoming and somewhere I would be happy to return back too. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the food which is being served, my only negative was that there were a few items on the menu which were not available or no longer being cooked, update your menus. I would recommend and would return when back in the area visiting family.
