The Bay Bistro and Coffee House in Swansea

When visiting Rhossili dropping into The View is a must in my opinion, even if it’s just for a cup of tea. Popped in impromptu for a quick bite to eat and ended up staying a while. The staff were extremely helpful and the food was exceptional. The calamari was delicious and cooked perfectly. The Korean loaded fries were amazing and enough for two to share. The smoothie of the week ‘coco loco’ in my opinion was out of this world but I do love coconut so no surprise there. I really hope that makes it to the main menu. Back to the staff… They couldn’t have been more helpful, a couple came in for what I can only assume was tea and cake ( I didn’t hear the full conversation) but I did hear the lad serving behind the counter offer an alternative which wasn’t on the menu, which the lady happily purchased. Another member of staff happily interacted with the customers behind me discussing random topics. Yes obviously the view from the window is amazing, it’s been rated as one the top beaches in the world on numerous occasions. For me, visiting today, the staff’s kindness and quality of the food out shone the beach. I will be returning!

Very disappointed. From the moment we arrived the young woman stood near the reception ignored us, no eye contact at all. The menu was very limited and overpriced for what you got. Welsh Rarebit was 2 small slices of bread clearly missing the cheese, served on a bed of cheap salad - ice berg, a couple of thin slices tomato and a sprinkle of red onion. cost £7.99. Soup was carrot and coriander, coriander could not be tasted - consistency and colour looked like packet soup - again over £6. Service was very slow, Coffee was the smallest cappuccino ever and lukewarm. This is an establishment trading on location alone and I felt cheated with a bill of £19. Don’t go there for the food. Such a shame it creates a bad impression of Gower.

So many of the reviews for the View are so incredibly (I'm using that word in its literal sense) positive that I had stupidly high expectations. I had fond memories of this place a few years ago, when the food was a bit special. Unfortunately reality was a letdown when we visited on a wet midweek day. There were only three other tables occupied when we arrived and stood wondering where the menus were and whether we should seat ourselves. The young woman behind the counter ignored us. No idea what she was doing, it wasn't busy. When we finally located the menu it seemed pretty standard stuff. There were three of us: one ordered soup and a side of chips, one the veggie breakfast and one the Welsh rarebit. While we waited for the food, we listened to too-loud rock music. I'm guessing it was the staff's choice and not designed to please older out-of-season customers. A couple who'd come in and sat down after us shifted table, looking for a quieter spot, then decided to leave before ordering. The veggie breakfast was okay, as were the chips. The soup was ultra-smooth and had a glutinous texture and a gloss that left the two of us who regularly make our own soup suspicious that it had started life in a packet. It was impossible to guess the ingredients because it was so salty. The Welsh rarebit was a thin layer of white sauce with a few mustard seeds through it, spread on toast and grilled. No recognisable cheese flavour, no gooey melted-cheese texture. Welsh rarebit is a lovely, flavoursome bite if made properly with plenty of mature cheddar and some Worcestershire sauce. This was not only bland but came already covered with sickly sweet onion relish — so I didn't get to choose whether I wanted to add it or not. I didn't want it. Relish should be served on the side. Cappuccino and latte were tepid, the cappuccino served in cups so small that a couple of mouthfuls and you were done. When we left there were new bemused customers standing at the counter and no staff to be seen. Perhaps we visited on a bad day. Perhaps chef wasn't in the kitchen. We don't know. From our perspective — good home cooks always on the lookout for better food than we can make at home — the view is the only really good thing about the View.

The View is ideally situated overlooking Rhossili bay, hence the name. The cafe/bar serves excellent food with very helpful and friendly staff. My wife loved the hot chocolate and my full Welsh breakfast was amazing. The View is also very dog friendly both inside and out

We frequently visit The View as food & service here is consistently good. It's especially great for dog owners, and our pet now recognises she is in for some treats when we visit. On this occasion, I was particularly impressed. I was served by two lads at the till. My friend was gluten intolerant and asked for some guidance. Both staff were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I hadn't realised that more items than not on the menu can be served free of gluten! Everything we had was delicious 😋. So, a massive thumbs up Sarah & Chris!

Called in for food and a coffee. Had the small plate selection to try different things and it did not disappoint and plenty of choice. Absolutely delicious! Gorgeous place, stunning views, lovely staff. Perfect chillout after a walk yo worms head. Can't wait to go back.

This is a great lunchtime idea - £20 for three good sized small plates. We had the Welsh rarebit, arancini and calamari which were all delicious. Staff were also friendly and polite on a very busy August day.

Went with family to have some lunch taking Mother and Mother in law for an early mothers day. Such welcoming people and the food that everyone had was fantastic. Everyone enjoyed what they had which is what you want. The korean loaded fries looked amazing and the fish and chips was huge (but was still polished off by both mums!). Can't wait for some warmer weather so we can go back, sit outside and take in the amazing view! Thanks!

Visited for coffee and snack recently , haven’t been there for a over a year and noticed a massive difference , it is now dog friendly inside with a fantastic menu , very welcoming and friendly staff which enhanced our experience, will be visiting again when we are next in Rhossili.

Came here a few (maybe 10!) years ago and loved the location. So nice to return and find the whole venue now upgraded and dog friendly with a much improved modern menu. We had the Korean chicken loaded fries and the rarebit which were both delicious. Staff were very friendly and service efficient.

I can't think of anywhere else in the area where you can sit inside for a full cooked breakfast if you have a dog. But that aside I think we've found the perfect place to have breakfast. The breakfast itself was perfect, the cafe cosy, the staff welcoming and the view breath taking. We'll be back!

An unforgettable brunch spot with fantastic views over Rhossili bay. My boyfriend and I got the Korean loaded fries and our friends got the Dahl and Welsh Rarebit - we were all super impressed. We had a wonderful lunch today, the staff couldn’t have been better and the chips might be the best I’ve ever had (so so so good). The halloumi flatbread was stunning and view is breathtaking. We’ll he back again soon! Also, enjoying the addition of the log burner since we last visited.

Best breakfast on the Gower! Had the Welsh breakfast and can honestly say every element was absolutely perfect. My husband and I also came back again two days later to sit by the log burner and drink coffee. Lovely cosy atmosphere and of course the view can't be beaten. We will definitely be back next time we come to Rhossili.

We’ve been waiting for a chance to go and visit this place again since new management took over. It was great before, but excited to see the change in offer via social media. A perfect walk on the beach, all to ourselves and then a fabulous lunch here. The view is aptly named. It is breathtaking looking over the expanse of beach while enjoying such lovely food. Staff friendly and helpful. The new menu is brilliant, I had Welsh rarebit and my husband had halloumi flatbread, we shared chips. It was all beautifully presented, tasted delicious. The chips! So moreish. Also picked up a couple of small gifts. Perfect. Good value for money, absolutely do go. You will never regret it.

Stopped in with our 2 dogs for a bacon and egg sandwich and a coffee after a walk. Both were excellent. Service very friendly. Views spectacular.

The weather was miserable but The View was fantastic, I liaised with them about table availability as my friend was planning a wedding proposal over looking the bay, they were helpful and responsive. We went in for food after and they had a table laid out for us with a bottle of prosecco on ice and a congratulations card written out. The food was incredible, the staff were lovely and the restaurant was wonderfully cosy!

We had a delicious lunch at “The View” when visiting Rhossili Bay today. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. We were recommended an amazing walk over the imposing hills adjacent to the beach and it turned out to be one of the most magnificent walks we’ve ever done. We set ourselves a target of completing it before the cafe closed at 3:30pm so we could return for tea and cake. Luckily managed it with minutes to spare.

Had an incredible brunch here today. Some of the best food I’ve eaten in a long time, all home made and freshly made and the view makes it that much more special. Highly recommend.

I wanted to love this place but it sadly didn't live up to expectations. We waited ages for lunch (having queued to order with 8 other tables in front of us) and felt the prices just didn't reflect the food offering. £4.95 for a chocolate brownie and £15 for a flatbread with 3 dips and some halloumi seemed excessive, although the fish and chips at £18 was tasty and certainly felt a little better value. I came last summer and really enjoyed coffee and cake in relaxed surroundings here. Maybe we were just unlucky the day we visited this summer but at least if your kitchen is struggling to cope with demand, let your customers know the wait is likely to be 45 mins to an hour plus so we can make an informed decision about whether to stay before ordering.
