Glantaff Inn in Merthyr Tydfil

Stopped in here for a pint just before closing, while travelling around Wales. Michelle welcomed us with open arms. She is truly a lovely person and made this our favourite pub by far. So much so that we came back the following day for lunch and we were welcomed back, by name on walking in. Everyone was lovely and friendly. We would highly recommend coming here, even if it is out of your way. Very special! Lovely atmosphere and we will definitely come back next time we are in these parts.

Absolutely beautiful food, we had the Mediterranean tart which was really tasty. Another one of us had a beef dinner, the beef was really tasty and massive. The staff were so friendly, highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

Booked into Glantaff Inn as part of my 1500 mile, £200 car challenge. I'm going to be completely honest, this was by far my favourite stay! The staff were so helpful and cheerful, the locals were super nice too! Such a lovely setting to chill and soak a pint. Will definitely be back! Thank you

Stunning roast dinners It is a must to visit

We are staying in the valleys and wanted a pub meal on our way back after a day out. Google came up with The Glantaff Inn so we thought we pop in for a drink to see what it was like. So glad we did!!! Got a wonderful welcome so decided to stay to eat. We each had the burger, which was absolutely delicious!! Would highly recommend this wonderful pub. It was quiet when we arrived around 5pm, by the time we left at 6:30 it was beginning to get busy. Amazing for a Tuesday evening.

Sunday lunch wasn't the best. The meat..turkey and beef was one large piece. not slices of meat. Roast potatoes were hard and did not taste freshly made..runny gravy although this was put right when asked. For the price I feel they need to review the standard of the Sunday lunch menu. It was below average sadly

Firstly, this is a pub. It’s not some wacky restaurant menu. The diffident in the sheer quality of the food. We had Cajun Chicken and Rack of Ribs. The meat cooked to perfection, a lovely salad, and crisp yet fluffy chips. The sauce with the Cajun is delicious. We arrived to find the place quite full but with a minimum of fuss we gives nice table. Even the plates are interesting! We will definitely return!

Fantastic food and absolutely amazing service. Never been made to feel more welcome in a restaurant. Steak was great and the steak and ale pie was probably the best we've had. Will definitely be back for Sunday lunch.

Food really nice pub grub, big portions. Booked a table for 10, 8 turned up and all ordered food. Deposit was not taken off bill and owner reluctantly refunded £10.00 out of the £50.00 paid. 1 starter and 2 mains cost me £84.00, it was not that nice. Be careful when paying a deposit, you may not get it back ! Will not be booking for a large party here again.

Little hidden gem found today whilst visiting our daughter who has just moved to the area. Super welcoming atmosphere, lady behind the bar was so nice and friendly. Food was outstanding and cooked to perfection and priced very very well. Portions are huge and did not disapoint. Would highly recommend to anyone. Looking forward to visiting again for their Sunday lunch

Has to be one of the best stake and ale pies out there.

Had my 1st meal here this evening ordered a medium rare steak which was cooked to my liking but my plate was oozing with blood as it hadnt rested before serving. No table check and no one around except waitresses up and down stairs serving other customers as very busy. At the end of my meal I told the waitress who was clearing the table my issue the owner/landlord came up to me and was very rude saying that he had served 500 meals and I was the only one to complain and I should have told someone which I would have if someone was about. I will never frequent this pub again purely because he tried to make me look a fool in front of other customers.

Wholesome pub classics, fantastic staff and a cosy atmosphere. The staff were top-notch, super friendly and made us feel at home from the moment we first walked through the door. Later on, the owners even personally came and asked us if everything was okay with our food. We were served some of the best pub food we've ever had. Beautifully home made, tasted fresh, very generous portion sizes, piping hot and not greasy at all. If you're in the mood for good food, great service, and a warm atmosphere, look no further than The Glantaff. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. The review by chrissym484 seems worlds apart from what we experienced so please don't let their negativity put you off!

I will always give this place 5* my grandparents go to the Glantaf every Wednesday religiously, my nan has dementia and the staff are absolutely amazing with them, they are so friendly and accommodating. They treat them like family and it's great to know there is a place my grandfather can relax knowing my grandmother is comfortable. I have been a few times and the food is always great, staff and service and top notch. I can't say a bad word about this restaurant they do go above and beyond!!!

We went to restaurant 28th march food was awful fish and chips cold friends had lamb shank greasy mash potatoes cold gravy full of grease. We also telephoned three times in regard to cheesecake homemade was told amazing on three occasions was told yes cheesecake available. Friends arrived first thing they asked was for cheesecake told it was not available and that they didn’t want to say over the phone because we would have cancelled eight people disappointed. On telephone call with owner advised me if we wanted desert we could have always have gone to Nelson cake shop really how rude.

Great local pub with food. locals welcome everyone bar staff great. Specials as well as regular meals . Meals quite large but generally home made tasty food . Do a quiz once a week also accept dogs with a smile

My parents came here for food a couple of weeks back and were impressed with the staff and the food. According to them, one girl with curly hair in a bun was very helpful and they would like to say a very big thanks to the staff in particular. The food was also well-cooked and delicious!

Let me first say the food was amazing really tasty and looked good did not disappoint but that said the place was ram packed and the noise was horrendous we were sat right by the toilet which wasn’t the nicest place to sit but you couldn’t have a conversation as everyone else seemed to be shouting as well. Being so busy we had to ask for menus although our food did arrive surprisingly quickly and was amazing I couldn’t wait to leave . The place is good but had booked to many people in

We stayed above this pub in the bunk House after a day riding in North Wales, the staff were extremely helpful to us on our stay. We had dinner in the pub after booking a table, the food was good and the atmosphere down stairs was great.

We received the warmest , friendliest Welcome from Michelle and the team. A lovely cosy beautifully clean interior with lots of character. The service and food was impeccable. My wife and our daughter ordered steaks and were presented with the largest steaks we have ever been served both cooked perfectly. The other dishes ( scampi and fish ) were equally generous and all cooked perfectly. My daughter’s dog was made as welcome as we were , not only by Michelle and the staff but by other diners too . Great value and quite possibly the friendliest pub / restaurant we have ever visited. Our first visit to the Glantaff but definitely not our last . Looking forward to our next visit to the area . If it weren’t for the five hour drive from home we’d be regulars in this fabulous place . Diolch I bawb . Thank you everyone.

Was fine until two guys squared up to each other and when we left they were outside punching two lumps out of each other then fell into a parked car. Didn't feel safe then

Went for a family of 6 meal for my birthday. We had the Sunday roast and it was stunning. Didn’t have to cut the meat it was so succulent. The staff couldn’t do enough for us and the atmosphere was terrific. Only thing we could critique was the parking aspect. Will definitely be back soon.

We love this place. We pop in for dinner every couple of months. Really good home cooked pub food at really reasonable prices. Loads of it too. Personal favourites, ham egg and chips and the cheesecake of the day. Pop in, you won't regret it!

A traditional heart with a modern exterior. Situated on the Taff Bargoed River, with a balcony on the upper floor and plenty of seating outside, you really can imagine what this lovely Inn would be like to stop off on a warm summer day! THE FOOD!!! Starters - fish cakes with chilly jam. It's not my go-to starter, but I thought, why not give it a shot. overall, it was a decent choice. The fishcakes were cooked perfectly, and the jam was sweet and spicy. I think a small side salad or something to accompany the fishcakes would have really brought it all together, but it was enjoyable. Mains - I chose the beef and what a suprise i had when it came! The dinner comes with everything you come to expect from a traditional pub dinner although i will add the veg comes pre mixed so if your a fussy eater you may be in for a shock but i thought it was a welcome change! You get colliflower cheese as standard, too! The juciey bit!!!! The beef came out, and wow! I've eaten in more than my fair share of places, but I've never had such a substantial piece of meat. It must have been an inch thick! it was juciey and tender and really made the meal for me! (Being a vegetarian/vegan must be so boring) I would definitely recommend the Inn and would highly recommend it when the weather is more pleasant. Went here for a meal with the hubby and I have to say the food was lovely had the homemade curry which was very tasty and then dessert. Will definitely be taking our daughter there for a meal now

Throughly enjoyed our meal, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was brilliant.

The meals were excellent. We all had the turkey which looked like a turkey steak (so tender). All the vegetables came in turines and there was loads and a nice variety. The meal also came with a dish of cauliflower cheese, that just topped it off for me. The staff were so lovely/friendly and welcoming. Good value for money, will definitely return. Highly recommended. You will need to book early as it gets very busy.

Family meal with my fussy kids 8yo and 10yo on a mid week evening. Service was swift and friendly. The home made meals were absolutely spot on. Deserts were fantastic too

My wife and I were looking after my Son and his Partners home in RCT ..for a week whilst they had there summer holiday in the Baleric island of Ibiza...so was a great opportunity to visit the Rhondda Valleys, and had a trip to Aberfan memorial site,..after we were travelling back when we passed through quakers yard,Myrther Vale area,and came across this very inviting Pub restaurant, and we had Dinner ,lamb shank,and Chicken curry,which was well presented and very tasty,..Compliments to the Chef,amazing cuisine!! Highly recommend,Great Ambient atmosphere, and excellent Customer service, and know next time where to go for a value for money experience well done to the staff at the Glentaff Inn Grace and Gary..Southampton Hants.

Nice friendly atmosphere from staff and customers 😀. In fact, 3 older gents (regulars) who were offered complimentary chips and fish by the manager offered me to take some. Which was a lovely gesture, both by the management and the gents 👏 😁.. I had a nice Lamb and mash. It is not a Gastropub, but as per above, it is a nicely decorated local pub, serving food with a great feel 👏

I went to the Glantaff Inn with a small group of friends. We all agreed that the meal was pleasantly presented and very tasty. The pub itself has been nicely decorated but we felt it was over crowded as the tables were much too close to each other causing an issue when people wanted to move in and out. I spent much of my time getting up and down to allow people on the next table to move around which was very annoying especially when eating and we couldnt help but encroach on each others space as I couldn't move my chair without hitting one of their's and they kept apologising for doing the same to me. The other issue we had was that the music was extremely loud causing it to be difficult to have a conversation. I would visit again but may ask for the seating not to be by the staircase in the hope that we would have more room.

Amazing welcome as soon as we arrived, excellent service, friendly banter with the staff and a lovely atmosphere. The good was also fantastic and served piping hot and nice portion size too. Stunning views on the roof terrace overlooking the river, and I can't wait to come back.

10/10 great welcome as I stepped into the bar asked if I could bring in a dog no problem. I ordered a Sunday Lamb Roast it was delicious had brownie with ice cream dessert all very tasty staff very attentive. Stephen (landlord) and landlady delightful especially after I had a bad experience in a nearby pub in Mountain Ash I would highly recommend this place A* thank you

Been here a few times and the welcome you get is second to none. You'll need to book if you want to guarantee a table, which speaks for itself. It's deceptively big, but that does not mean you have to wait long for meals. Everything we've had here has been excellent. Portion sizes are very plentiful and I've still not had enough room to try the puddings yet. Perhaps I'll start with them next time:-)

A party of 3 people visiting for food after a long day of riding trails at Bike Park Wales. Really impressed overall, great place to get some decent quality food. Gorgeous hunters chicken was served in a claypot, the 16oz rump steak was HUGE and very impressive, the cajun chicken was well seasoned but lacked the 'wow factor' of the other two dishes. Beers were excellent - A decent pint of Guinness! Overall, really happy we chose to visit and would recommend. Total bill was £85 for 3 starters, 3 mains, and 6 pints of beer and cider, which I think is totally reasonable. Would've loved to have had room to try the desserts!

Our table was booked for half past 2, my mother and sister were there for twenty past and we arrived 5minutes late at 14:35. At 3pm we got up and got our own menus. We then had to ask to be served. At quarter past 4 our lunch still hadn’t arrived, there were 4 children in our party who were starving. I asked the waitress, )who I learnt afterwards was the owner) how long our food was going to be and her reply was that because we were late we missed our slot?!? Disappointed in the food we had two trays of veg and potatoes between 11 of us. We will certainly not be eating here again. There was no apology for our near 2hr wait either. People arrived after us and got service before us.

Came here for a couples date night as we heard the food was supposed to be good. After weeks of hype and finally managing to get a table booked we were thoroughly disappointed. My partner and I orderd the minted lamb shank. The lamb itself was very average despite everyone building it up and wasn't minted, we just received gravy with mint sauce in it. The gravy was quite possibly the most watered down mixture that I have ever taste. The fries were also very average. For the price, we felt robbed. My friend ordered the Cajun chicken breast, which was quite clearly overcooked and extremely dry. As for his sauce, you got literally taste the flour in the mixture, clumpy and inedible. For dessert we all had the sticky toffee pudding, which was very bland, lacking any sort of depth. There wasn't much toffee/caramel on the pudding and the taste of cinnamon was overwhelming. As for the service, the staff were very quick friendly and tentative. I would not recommend sitting downstairs if you book here too. Its very loud downstairs with the locals.

I always said how brilliant it was until yesterday 16/7/23, arrived a 2:05 for 2:30 lunch , my daughter & her family came at 2:15 , my other daughter arrived at 2:33 only late because they were going around in circles for parking space, at 3:30 we weren’t even given menus, my son in law went and got them, there was 11 of us 7 adults 4children, at 4oclock my daughter went to ask could we be served, she was told we’d missed our time slot, never heard of so much rubbish , I’d been there from 2 , eventually at 4oclock they took our order,wish we never ever bothered, they obviously forgot about us, as the only things cooked right was the meat, only reason we stayed was my one daughter had travelled up from Newport,and it was a big birthday meal, never ever again.

So the pub itself is very pleasant, however, some staff could be a bit more friendly, the manager was brilliant and catered for us. The food is expensive for what it is however the meat was great. The desserts we got were not cooked however the owner/manager sorted this out for us and sorted it on the bill too. The pub is lovely and the locals are friendly too.

Me and my husband dined her last night with friends and thd person behind the bar who i assume was thd landlord was very cheerful took time to interact with us at the bar and took great pleasure in letting us know about the food on offer on the menu you could tell how passionate he was about his homemade product s on the menu and i must say none of the food around the table disappointed us the pork burnt ends were amazing and my husband said his rib eye was bloody lovely and the best steak he has tasted in a long time . Will definatly be returning but i will say if you are thinking of dining here and having 3 courses don t eat too much through the day as you may go home stuffed as we did but who could resist rasberrh ruffle white chocolate cheesecake Well worth a visit you won t be disappointed with the welcomd the food or the value for money
