The staff are brilliant here , so friendly,often quite funny , mostly just lovely .Great choice of real ales , if that's your thing . It's mine ,food comes out quickly too. Love the place .

Holding a weatherspoons to a high standard - there was no Guinness logo so how is it possible for me to split the G? Instant minus 2 stars. On the food however, chicken wings was a great filler, not crispy. (My girlfriend makes better chicken wings)(*she was looking over my shoulder writing this)The burger was built from the finest Welsh beef and definitely not imported. The atmosphere had people falling over with joy (quite literally a lady passed out) If you are after a quick feed to fill your boots before exploring other local venues, this will do the job.

Called in for a few drinks ( wish I hadn't). It was dead other than young girls with screaming babies! No food being served! It's becoming a bigger dump than the one in Aberdare! A young man near me had a breakfast and he left it stating it was disgusting and he informed me he knew a Staff member who had told him recently that the cooks don't care as all they are doing is playing on their mobiles in the kitchen!

Went for breakfast .food very nice .fair portion size .this has been my 3rd visit .also had lunch here twice .

Usual ping meals, burger was dire. Maybe a dozen chips on the plate. One bar staff serving, unfortunately they were quite slow. Personally I wouldn't go again

had small breakfast and a round of toast ! when breakfast arrived the food had been put on a freezing cold plate ( my pet hate ) and the egg had been cooked about an hour earlier along with the leather textured toast ! this breakfast was vile . good coffee was the only redeeming part of my visit.

Nice place but Manager Liam is a day light robber, I asked for a 2 - double captain morgan , one glass he filled properly and other glass he filled with not even single peg and fortunately I saw the glasses before filling water and questioned him so he came back and refilled my glass and just ignored to answer me and left with embarrassment. Aware him.

This place is kind of like a microcosm of Merthyr. People downing cheap booze to get wrecked. The place smells of failed relationships and is littered with broken dreams. It's really scruffy too. Cheap though. Just depressing

got a very small portion of chips my burger came without cheese and they brough cheese after 5 minutes and also gave it to the wrong table as a result of this my burger was stone cold by the time the cheese come

Typical wetherspoons and can't complain clean, cheap and decent. I did however ask for a pint of Coors to be told its pronounced 'Cors'. Don't know if this a Welsh thing but Coors has 2 'o's.

11"Pizza Double Smirnoff and coke £8.49. Cant beat the value.

Our host Alex was of excellent help. Beer was good and meals were great. 6.50 for a round of 4 drinks is fantastic vfm. Dinner costing just over 30 again great value for money. Many thanks Merthyr.

Nice food at a good price. Sauces available upon request. Ordering and paying via mobile phone makes it easier.

Boneless chicken was delicious.

Not allowed in the "Beer Garden" which is essentially a cordoned off area on concrete in front of the pub. Nobody using it but not allowed in with our dog @ 21:00 nobody else around. #STUPID RULE. They lost our food & drink custom.

Very disappointed, haven't been for a while. Lager was flat, glass was dirty, tables hadn't been cleaned, looks very dirty, I would ever eat there again. I would even think twice about going there for a drink. Felt sorry for staff, running around, short staffed, trying to serve food, work the bar, informed manager of the experience we had and he really didn't seem bothered.

Excellent fast service, food was hot and plentiful. Friendly staff too 👍🏻

Food is low priced and tasty and the sauces are free, the drinks are low priced also.

Called in for a few drinks while the Wife was shopping. Very bad smell in there like someone had an accident! Drank up and got out of there for some fresh air!

Complained about the cold when doors were propped open. Was informed building was hot. Customers didn't seem to matter.

This establishment has a great array of beers wines and spirits. It serves better than average food in the 'pub grub' category. It gets very busy on Fridays and Saturdays in particular. The prices are so kind to paupers, that even I can feast there. Actually, I use it for Breakfasts which are excellent value and large enough to properly fill 'the hole'. It is older clientele in the daytime and then the younger element appear at the end of the working day. There is plenty of room throughout the day. Saturday evenings even the up stairs gets filled up. If you are not 'too good at stairs' ASK for a key to the downstairs toilet which permits access for wheelchair users too. You should be mindful of the stairs and alcohol consumption. Many a fit and healthy youngster has found out the hard way that Gravity can have grave consequences. Do not wear 4 inch heels to attempt to scale the stairs! Sensible footwear is derigeur. (absolutely a must have). The choice available for Real Ale drinkers is exceptionally good. A friend usually quaffs half a dozen or so and begins by an exploratory pint of each one and then settling on his preference. He develops a warm glowing personality as the process proceeds. So, the evidence would indicate a high quality across the 'field' available. The prices are enough to bring a smile to any Real Ale drinkers face! Want to party ladies.? Why not try their pitcher deals. But don't blame me for the consequences, but they do get the night out 'moving along nicely'.

Was told by a close friend who happens to be Welsh to, 'Avoid Wetherspoons in Merthyr Tydfil, in fact avoid Merthyr Tydfil, it's an utter dump'. I think he got confused with Ebbw Vale. Y Dic Penderyn was a perfectly reasonable Wetherspoons and we enjoyed our visit. The pub was well maintained, comfortable and the staff were genuinely very friendly and helpful. Our meals were also very good indeed for the price paid. OK, since you ask, I had an ultimate burger and my wife settled for that old favourite, the chicken tikka masala. I tried to convince her otherwise but I was smacked down harder than a belly flopping manta ray. I know when to stop. I stopped. The burger was delicious, the often soggy Wetherspoons chips were nicely cooked, crispy and golden. The masala was gorgeous, I know, I finished off my chips in the sauce while my wife fannyed about with the poppadoms and naan bread. Don't avoid Merthyr, or the Y Dic Penderyn. Both are worth a visit.

Never really bother, with this chain, but called in, and surprisingly nice food, fish and chips great, not massive meals but enough for me, will go again.😁

The establishment has undergone noticeable improvements. I visited Wetherspoons in Merthyr on Saturday, April 6th, 2024, and I must say, the customer service was exceptional. The food quality was commendable, and they efficiently cleared tables. The staff were not only friendly but also very accommodating. I would rate my experience a solid 5 stars. thanks

Clean but not exactly a must-visit pub. Ok for an early coffee.

Been here a few times now. Always people inside by can usually find a table. Beer is good with something new every month.

This is a perfect example of a weatherspoons. We know exactly what to expect and that's exactly what it is. Toilets upstairs a mile away, predictable food, don't touch the carpet.

Had a mixed grill all the meat was burnt, they did put the burnt side down, and chips was cold, but apple crumble was hot and that was lovely

Weatherspoons do have something of a bad reputation in some towns and cities, but this one was lovely. I was pleasantly surprised. Nice staff, great service, in pleasant surroundings. There for around 3 hours at lunchtime.

Usually service is good shocking today, waited 30mins after ordering on the app to finally get drinks whilst the staff stood chatting initially before bar getting busy. Visited bar twice in this time to be told they were poured and on their way, arrived 5mins later.

Absolutely useless staff. No organisation. Ordered drinks via that app and still waited 25mins and then had to go up to bar to ask for them. It's the worst one I've been in for service

Waited over an hour for food and wasn't even busy , complained then the manager brought our food out it was cold ,I asked him to change my fork as it was dirty , waited another 5 minutes for that to come out , will not be returning

Went into Wetherspoons starving and I thought they would fulfill my hunger, they did but at what cost. First of all there was no friendly welcome and when I entered I thought it would be packed ( I was wrong , barely anyone). When I sat down we ordered and drinks arrived in no time but the food wasn’t the same , supposedly only a 7 minute wait turned into 27 minutes On the 10 minute mark an employee entered our vicinity and said “ we don’t have peppercorn sauce” ( you need peppercorn sauce for steak) so we agreed to trade it for onion rings. Sadly after my excitement the dishes were served and the plates were looking lovely but the worst was yet to come . After that moment I was excited to dig into my medium rare steak but I was greeted by a burnt , well done steak. The seasoning on it tasted like papa johns pizza you get in a caravan park but I had to eat. Shortly after an employee spotted me curious of what happened and she asked if we wanted it recooked, I had to be polite and said it was fine but it was most certainly not fine. I also noticed the chips were a bit raw and hard. Overall the experience was amateur at best and I was saddened Wetherspoons was such a disappoint.

Terrible. Measly looking burger, tasted burnt on edges and barely cooked in middle, was dry as though it was pre cooked and reheated. You get what you pay for but would have cost less in McDonald's for a better meal. Would not recommend and will not be eating here again. Very disappointing

What a dump! I had a vindaloor curry, it came FROZEN. My Wife's tikka masala was freeing cold and the nan was like a piece of cardboard. Sent the Back! The kitchen staff must be morons, can even cook food hot! I've heard it's closing, let's hope its true! Spoons in Merthyr you are a disgrace to Merthyr and so are your kitchen Staff!

Foods ok, but good drinks and customer service

Great cheap pub, good cask ales, decent food. Super reliable for a meal and a pint, never disappointing. I wish these existed in America. If you go on the curry club day the naga chili chicken tika is actually quite spicy which I was not expecting after being disappointed by the level of spice I had gotten at other establishments in the UK.

The best wetherspoons in the country amazing staff and amazing food

A number of weatherspoons are not clean, this one is filthy, unclean tables, just not very good. The food , well it’s not great, you start regretting ordering whilst your waiting. I’ve been in nice places where back of house is a dump. When front of house is a dump god only knows the rest. Go somewhere else.

It's a wetherspoons, and generally the're all good venues. This is no different. Good central location. Cavernous interior with plenty of places to sit. Usual selection of good beer, not too expensive, and a large menu. Toilets were clean. Service was a little slow, they lost my food order, and in all honesty the food was extremely average. But, if I'm in Merthyr again, I would be happy to meet for a pint here.

As Wetherspoons goes, this is one of the much better ones. Food is good, service is ok, as 2ith any of them it can get noisy and slower at busy times, but that's to be expected. All in all a good place.

"I had an absolutely terrible experience at this Weatherspoons location. I accidentally ordered food to this branch instead of the intended one, I tried ringing them but they were to ignorant to pick up the phone and when I politely asked if I could get a refund or discount, the lady I spoke to was incredibly rude and dismissive. She seemed more interested in rushing us out of the pub than addressing our issue. To top it off, I never received my food, making this visit an overall disappointment. I expected better customer service and communication from Weatherspoons. I won't be returning to this branch. If staff treat their customers like this then it’s understandable why this weatherspoons has such a terrible reputation.wasted my money on nothing. (Manager was very arrogant)
