We were taking a self catering break, based in Portgordon, and had searched online, for a dog friendly restaurant - luckily, the Mill house came up. We had an excellent evening. A really dog-friendly establishment with great staff - We, and our Black and Tan KC Spaniel (Milo) were made to feel very welcome and comfortable. Menue choice was good and all courses were tasty, good proportion, superbly prepared and presented.

Sauberkeit ok.

This hotel is dated, dirty and damp. We stayed here for 2 nights bed and breakfast, we were not checked in politely, just given our key to No 24. There was a ‘dirty smell’ in the room and the window had been left open which is a good job because it was that dirty you couldn’t see through it. The bedding was adequate, but the TV didn’t work. There were watermarks on the wall from a leak that had not been re painted. The bathroom was dated and had visible signs of damp. There also was an electric towel rail that had black insulation tape wrapped round the electric cable connection, with a PAT test sticker on it dated 2018!!!! You only need portable appliances to be PAT tested! The bar area was not the best and the staff ate their meals at the table in the bar and one of them even regularly took his blood pressure with a portable monitor. We came down for breakfast and were met with an abundance of opened large cereal boxes and uncovered fruit and cheeses which were very tempting to the many flies in the lobby area next to the ‘dining room’. We sat at a table but the carpet was that dirty and sticky the chair stuck to it!!! ….we didn’t eat breakfast!! It was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in the owners have left it to rack and ruin and it’s a shame as it’s a historical building in a nice little town.

This is a handy spot for a break on the way to Inverness. Quite basic but not too bad. Plenty car parking. Not far from the main road. Could do with a Saltire or two. Also a bit of information about the town and the local and Scottish drink and food they serve. Not sure why it is listed as a British and not a Scottish cafe.

I came here with my young daughter as an off the cuff let's get away somewhere for an overnight stay (we weren't staying at the hotel). As a recently diagnosed coeliac and historically an afternoon tea aficionado, I have been hesitant to book anywhere after having had a significantly sub-par experience in the Claridges for my birthday this year. I just thought, if the Claridges can't do it, noone can, I am doomed forever. Not so! This was an absolute TREAT! Sandwiches, couple of little savouries, a delicious (and warm, and soft) scone and a beautiful selection of little cakes, what an absolute delight! Service was amazing, my daughter was made to feel really welcome and was fussed over in a nice way, they accommodated my request for her to have a hot choc and scone as she would never manage a full aft tea (again in contrast with Claridges, where they charged 50 quid for hers, she ate about 4 mouthfuls as she has a small appetite). Will be visiting again, and soon! Thanks!

The really friendly and hospitable staff set the bright tone for this excellent meal. We’d both eaten a lot of meat and fish so opted for the pesto and tomato gnocchi dish. The portion size was larger than expected and the pesto sauce was so sumptuous and fresh. I loved the fresh tomatoes dotted in the dish as well as the chilli flakes. We had gin spritz and oh my goodness, I want to recreate them at home. I could’ve drank the dry gin with apricot and grapefruit spritzer all night. These were priced at £7.25 each which I thought was reasonable given the standard of the restaurant. The gnocchi was £18 so at the upper end of the places we’d eaten at on our trip, especially for a vegetarian dish. However, it was really well cooked, flavoursome and just what we needed. The food was delivered very quickly to our table and our waiter was very friendly. We didn’t have room for pudding but the list looked great. We had the same mains and 2 gin spritz’s each which came to a total of just over £70. I personally think this restaurant is worth the money but it’s not a cheap dinner date. I would go back.
