Delicious food, exceptional service, great prices, good portions. What's not to like. Steak pie and haddock/chips really good. Went back a second time for the carvery. This is easy to get wrong with overcooked, soggy vegetables; not here everything very fresh, huge selection, great service again. Very busy but not full, the couple in front of us without a booking got a table.

restaurant with a lot of confusion and dazed staff, everything unhygienic, greasy table and glasses with a bad smell, low quality menu. Was at Norseman hotel last night for dinner and disappointed to say the least the chicken fillets were beautiful but the rest was by far the worst no beer batter onion rings frozen cheap ones soggy as hell and the chips were an absolute disaster won’t be returning for a while unfortunately……………..

Stayed here for 2 nights with wife & our dog. Room had dog blanket, towel & some treats ( nice touch) staff very helpful throughout, had dinner both nights in the lounge (as dog with us) great selection of choice for all. Great breakfast choice. Nice river walks & close to town centre. Room spotless, bath robes, local tablet & bottled water all included ✅✅✅

Was persuaded to go because of positive reviews on Trip Adviser. We were not disappointed. The staff were very polite, cheerful and helpful. We both had the crispy skin salmon with chips and salad/mashed potato and veges and both dishes were very good. The wine was fine and not over-priced. Oyster Bay SB and a Margaret River shiraz all $6 a glass. Overall, a fine evening.

Lovely Sunday carvery with a huge array of veg and choice of 5 types of meat😃 There was soup to start if you wished and then the choice of sweet was overwhelming!! Food was freshly prepared, delicious and great value for money! £19.95 for all three courses! Lovely little stop for lunch Welcomed. Non residents ( we were passing through in our Motorhome) Lovely waitress you was very helpful and polite Sorry didn’t find out her name 💗

Went for afternoon tea so nice lots of cakes to choose from four types of sandwiches and hot sausage rolls pot of tea all for£12.50 per person excellent value

I’ve stayed here before but this visit was a last minute booking for an emergency call out. I arrived far too late for food sadly as it’s good here. Had a single room on the third floor which was perfectly good and not dilly hot thankfully. Suited my needs. yet again staff were great and breakfast was fantastic absolutely no complaints

This hotel is located in the centre of town. It is quite old fashioned but seemed t be popular with the local people. Our room was on the ground floor overlooking the car park and there was a drawback in that the windows had no net curtains which meant when we were in the bedroom we had to have the curtains drawn. Also no shower gel was provided which is standard in most hotels these days.

We had a very pleasant meal at the Norseman. We booked at very short notice. Both main meals and the desserts we had were delicious and very generous. The service was good and for the meal we had, it was great value for the meal. We would certainly go again if we weren't on holiday several hundred miles from home!

Had a wonderful time celebrating our daughters 18th birthday with family and friends. The food and service was first class nothing was too much trouble. The staff are very attentive and the food was served hot and all together, nobody was left waiting

We held a family afternoon tea at the Norseman for a 90th birthday celebration. Andrew and staff were amazing from the initial enquiry through to the actual day. The coffee/tea was replenished frequently automatically and the cakes were wonderful. Dietary requirements catered for with no fuss and the genuine helpfulness made the day perfect. Highly recommended.

First time in Wick so I chose this restaurant because the reviews were good.Did not disappoint,the hotel was quaint and the food was excellent. The delightful staff made our day and we would recommend the Norseman .

We’re staying in Wick and needed a place to have dinner at short notice. The staff were all extremely welcoming and helpful and the food was well priced. The salmon was particularly nice. The puddings were also great. Highly recommend as a place to grab a meal in Wick.

Took my family of 8 for a pre Christmas meal. Unfortunately, it only got worse from the poor first impression where the service was almost transactional at the best to my request of rare roast beef looked and tasted as if it had been cooked and been out for three days on buffet. The main course took 90 mins to arrive. One member of female staff, looked as if she did not want to be there and certainly did not wish us to be there. Unfortunately, one of the waiting staff dropped some food on the ground, which lay there for sometime, unfortunately my niece fell in it. Over all it was a complete mess. Some of the staff was pleasant but could do with a bit more training, with regards to the kitchen, standards should be reviewed.

Another hot and tasty lunch, friendly staff and a bit of socialising, see you again soon, can't fault it

Stayed here for 2 night while touring highlands. Found the hotel very comfortable, staff at hotel was wonderful. Ate at restaurant 2 nights, food was very good and flavorful. One of the better meals I had in Scotland!

In for a meal just this past evening, arrived before they started serving at 5 and had some drinks then popped in our order as the kitchen opened (big thanks to Shannon). We had starters, soup of the day -leek and potato- and haggis pakoras which were both lovely warming dishes and the haggis pakoras are such a unique yet Scottish dish. Mains were chicken fillets and chicken escalope, simple yet delicious, mains and starters were served with salad, bread and sauce, depending on the meal. Was absolutely delicious and is great to have in the community, all for a brilliant price and not mention incredibly quick service order in at 5 starters at 5:10 sort of speed, incredible.

Booked dinner at this restaurant, due to fair prices and limited dining options. We were a little concerned after reading previous reviews, especially when we arrived and the waitress informed us that there would be a long wait on food. We took our chances as there really were no other options, and luckily, within 25 minutes our meals arrived. My husband enjoyed the steak pie and I had the roast beef. I was disappointed that there wasn’t a Yorkshire pudding or roast potatoes, but the beef was good and the vegetables were cooked nicely. The cheesecake was pleasant and the young staff were efficient and pleasant. We were asked several times if we were happy with our meal, and we were. I was very relieved that we had good meals and didn’t have to wait long at all.

Good menu for the family to choose from and gluten free options - just a shame my son’s food came with a dead daddy long legs in it

Sunday lunch. Hotel from outside is not good. Inside it’s lovely, lovely people lovely food. Carvery was top class, never had better. Ate too much of course. Don’t be put off by the outside, it’s great!

The carvery served at the Norseman Hotel on Sundays is very adequate. The soup, followed by a good selection of roasts and a good variety of vegetables always makes for a good meal, followed by a good selection of desserts. It is moderately priced for...

I enjoyed my meal. I had the chicken curry, which was filling and tasty. My only criticism was the naan bread was too chewy, but this did not spoil the overall enjoyment. I requested custard with my desert and got it!!

We were on a coach trip up to John O Groats but stopped off here for a soup & sandwich lunch before travelling further. Although pretty basic it was welcome. We had lentil soup plus a variety of sandwiches which was welcome. Staff were nice.

An overnight stay with family on a footie trip. Lovely hotel, friendly staff, good food clean rooms. The young staff were excellent, and handled a busy evening very well, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the norseman for a short stay Thank you!!

1 night stop on NC500 trip. All staff were very friendly and looked after us very well. Great for dog with treats on arrival. Had a breakfast table in lounge so we could have dog, got water and biscuits again. Lovely self serve breakfast for...

Popped in for lunch. Excellent service by a friendly waitress. Had the cheese and onion tarts which were delicious - good chips too! We had the baby in pushchair which can be a problem but plenty of room at this restaurant and made it so...

Absolutely fantastic place to eat. Service was fabulous, quick and very pleasant. Food was great from steak pie, fish and curry, we all had a great time, and price was good also. Definitely return asap.

Unfortunately our carvery dinner was pretty poor. I ordered the toffee cheesecake and when the waiter brought it over, he said he wasn’t sure what it was.The dessert was not toffee, it tasted more like raspberry and it was the consistency of angel delight. It was a really poor dessert which I could not eat, and when I advised that I would not be paying for the dessert the response was that as it was a set price for 3 courses and there was nothing they could do. Another waitress stated that the dish was the toffee cheesecake, and seemed reluctant to wave the cost of it from my bill. Again I stated that the dessert was disgusting and I was not going to pay for it. There appeared to be no management around and the staff were young kids. They did agree to taking off £5 from the bill and apologised.

Great food well cooked and presented with care. Extensive menu and the Steak Pie is great. Good sized portions and friendly helpful staff made this a pleasant visit.

Wasn’t sure about eating in a 1star hotel, but “BOY” was I surprised ! Excellent service and food! Was recommended by the camping site we were staying at overnight . Looked for a restaurant that accepted dogs . Ordered Gammon and a fillet steak, £13 and £24 with whiskey sauce , fries, salad, onion rings and mushrooms. Could not fault the food, large portions and we sent compliments to the kitchen . Great welcomed surprise !

Could not rate the restaurant highly enough! The food, value and service was fantastic. Called last minute to see if they had any availability and they managed to fit us in. The starters we ordered, Steak & Duck main meals and cheescake desert were lovely.

Went for a Sunday meal with friends it was a disgrace we had the carvery the turkey was tough mash potatoes had hard lumps in it looks like the vegetables had been lying for a while the plates were cold the gravy was like water we ordered a sweet I had pavolva it was the size of a small bun it looked lost on the big plate and the trifle was taste less certainly wont be back and would not recommend it.

Despite the website saying nothing about a Sunday menu, they only offer a roast and soup starter on Sundays. I literally cook a better roast at home. Although that’s not hard as it was pretty poor the food. Everything boiled and bought in. Yorkshire’s and roasts definitely bought in and heated up. Meat all over cooked. Only good thing was the waitresses were really friendly and helpful.

Been here a couple of times this week while on holiday in Wick area, today we had the Sunday carvery lunch, which is brought to your table due to Covid restrictions, it's three course, Soup, homemade with lovely bread, choice of four meats, with roast and mash potatoes, sprouts, carrots, turnips and red cabbage, oatmeal stuffing and Yorkshire pudding and gravy, a nice touch was being offered extra gravy, there are six desserts on the menu and you can choose up to three, we had a lovely creamy rice pudding with fruit compote, lemon meringue pie and a strawberry tart. The service is efficient and friendly and the food great value for money, highly recommended.

Stayed in the hotel so eat in the restaurant a great menu with traditional food the soup and roast was excellent. Good service friendly and quick.

My wife and I stayed for one night (september 2020) at a cost of £105:00.Staff are very friendly, make you welcome and offer service with a smile.Hotel is well laid out to meet current covid guidelines. Staff have the hotel scrupiously clean and can be seen throught the day disinfecting door handles etc. The room was very comfy and clean.A one way system in and out of the hotel is in operation to assist with current government guidelines, the issue with this was that you leave through the fire escape which was blocked by six motorcycles, these concerns were passed to staff sadly the bikes were still there the following morning, luckily the fire exit was not needed through the night.Smokers are also allowed to smoke just outside of the entrance to the hotel which results in guests being greeted with the smell of stale smoke.The evening meal was not edible, the buger I ordered would have been put to better use as an ice hockey puck, the so called onion rings (frozen variety) were not cooked through, the hand cut chips (which the menu makes such a fuss about) were so dry they were inedible. The breakfast was as bad if not worse than the previois evenings offering. The bacon looked as though it had been steamed and not cooked as bacon should be. My wife descibed this as"a good vet could have this back on its feet". The hash browns could not be cut with the cutlery provided, it appeard that they had been left in the oven for an hour too long, the eggs can best be decsribed as rubber and the haggis? well this is the only time I have ever been served haggis crumble. It is my opinion that the person who prepares the breakfast cooks everything at 6am (breakfast served 7 untill 9) puts it in the oven (apart fom the bacon) to keep warn, unfortuanetly the later you have breakfast the drier your food is.On reporting the poor standard of the evening meal on checkout the cost of the meal was immediatley reimbursed. To me it is shame that when staff try so hard their efforts pale into insignificance due to a lazy food preparer. I cannot use the word chef or cook given the food I was served.

The Norseman looks quite dated from the outside however inside you will be met with friendly, attentive staff and a traditional fresh Scottish decor. Our family of 4 ate in the lounge area as we had our two dogs with us however there was a lovely atmosphere with others having afternoon tea. The waiting staff were excellent. My daughter and I voted the mac cheese the best we had on our holiday and others sandwiches were lovely.Very good COVID safety measures and everything was spotlessly clean. Highly recommended for good quality food at a reasonable price.

Limited menu during Covid but good quality and generous portions. Pub-grub +. Breakfast good. Service excellent. Furniture could do with replacing as rather tired.

Had a meal with friends that were visiting last night everyone enjoyed their meals nice to see the addition of mushroom tagliatelle which my wife loved. Great service

Having endured lockdown my friends and I ventured out to eat once again in this lovely hotel which we have frequented on several occassions. The arrangements in place were reassuring and the food on the several occasions we have been in recently has been well prepared and delicious. The staff were all following the correct procedures now in place and we reassuringly watched all items being cleaned in between guests. The food was plentiful and delicious.I was delighted to see this hotel had signed up for the eat out help out scheme which is to be commended. Although some establishments have complained the paperwork is too much bother and have not signed up to this, its great to see Andrew has and this allows members of the community to take advantage of discounted meals to reward them for their support.Well Done ! Tables were well spaced out and the restaurant although busy felt safe and welcoming.Excellent meal Excellent service I have been in on a few occasions now both at weekends and on weekdays and at all times found the service and food excellent. Ive no hope of losing the loakdown pounds at this rate. Well done Andrew and staff.

We all had a fantastic birthday meal tonight in the norseman, I always recieve the best customer service, the waitresses were attentive, polite and cheerful, food was delicious and superb value. The quality of food and service was excellent, thank you very much for a lovely meal.

We visit Orkney four times a year and invariably we stop at the Norseman for a meal when we are heading south.Service is always quick and friendly, there is a nicely varied menu with prices very reasonable and most importantly we both enjoyed our meals. We enjoyed a wonderful Sunday carvery for a recent birthday celebration. The service and food were great as always. The lamb simply melted in your mouth.

It was May 2018 when I last ate here. I have been seriously ill and because of this I couldn't eat, losing 10 stones. Today, after regaining my appetite we returned to this restaurant. Our sincere thanks to Sharon and her waiting staff, Daniel, commis chef and the carvery staff for a most wonderful meal. The food and service were of the highest standard. Nothing was too much trouble. We heartily recommend this restaurant for the finest service and cuisine.

Professional staff service, pleasant atmosphere, clean and welcoming. Good wholesome food reasonably priced. The very best milky coffee and shortbread. All in all standards are excellent at every visit.

Had an evening meal here. Staff VERY helpful and professional. Steak cooked to perfection !if in Wick I would heartily recommend here for dining. Good helpings, good quality and the chef is obviously worth his salt !

Dined here on a Saturday night short ago for an evening meal with my partner. We both had the same starter of mushrooms done in a garlic sauce with garlic bread and a side salad. I had the ham and chicken carbonara and she had the macaroni cheese and chips. Could fault our meal at all and the price was very good. We did wait a little time but in comparison to how busy it was at this time of year you couldn’t argue, staff were friendly as always and we will return

Visited with my family for lunch, as had been recommended.... Decor was fine and quick delivery of drinks, but food took ages. We ordered soups as starter but when they arrived they were lukewarm. Then mains eventually arrived. Scampi was actually good but chips were not fresh and had black patches- not good. Worst was the quiche which was supposed to be warm but was cold. We complained and were offered another, but then told that was last quiche portions, so got amounts taken off bill by manager- who tried the help.Will not be going back and would not recommend as standards are low. There must be better places locally...

Good carver on a Sunday and pub grub the rest of the week. We’ve eaten here a few times not fine dining but does serve good pub grub. Menu basic but this reflects in the price which is pretty reasonable.

Decided to check out their Sunday dinner carvery roast. We were not disappointed. The lamb especially. Their desserts were a fitting end to a lovely meal.

Although the staff and sevice here is very good the quality of the food is poor, in fact the roast beef was so tough it was impossible to cut or chew. The Yorkshire pudding was an empty shell of dough. The desserts were passable when they finally arrived but a lack of any cream or ice-cream made them pretty boring. For drinks you need to go to the bar no table service.

The restuarant and bar were both very busy but we did not have long to wait to be served and the meal wass first class.

As psrt of a group of travellers we were given set menus, however there were 3 choices of appetizers, mains and dessert. Something for everyone. The meals were well presented, delicious and of good quality ingredients. The buffet breakfast was superb, the best we have had so far.

Brought the family together for a Sunday lunch at the carvery in the Norseman. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, very family friendly and nothing seemed to be any bother to the staff who were looking after us. The food was excellent - something for everyone, and portions that would sink a battleship! Best of all though was the attitude of the staff who even presented all the kids with balloons to keep them amused. Altogether a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing outing, and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone!

At the end a of a long day of travelling it was very nice to have a lovely dinner served by polite and efficient staff. The breakfast was just as delicious as dinner and gave us plenty in our belly to sustain us for the day of travel.

We were staying in Wick for a couple of nights and found this online before we arrived and booked ahead.

Looks a little low key for the price from the outside; a tad shabby. But transforms wonderfully inside. Comfortable rooms, pleasant decor, and lovely breakfast served (though it does stop at 09:00 - so no long lie ins). A short walk from the centre and en-route for NC500. I would thoroughly recommend.

I go to the Norseman quite regularly, the food is always good, with large portions, excellent value for money!

Lovely meal, warm hospitality... they called us a taxi then insisted we had 'one for the road' they made them large so we teetered back to our B and B who had recommended the place

This place was recommended you couldn't ask for nicer staff the presentation of the food was excellent there was even fruit in my salad which actually was surprisingly really nice unfortunately the meat was very chewy when I was asked if I enjoyed the meal I said it was okay the meat was chewy so i left it they actually took it off the bill which I didn't expect. My husband had the pie and he really enjoyed his meal.

We are fairly regular visitors to the Norseman on our visits heading to and from Orkney. We have never been disappointed in the past and our visit to the Sunday Carvery was no exception. We had options of Roast Beef, Pork, Gammon, Turkey and Lamb with all the usual trimmings plus a vast array of vegetables.

Ordered a steak pie and hand cut chips - which sounded amazing!

An excellent choice by our friends who live locally. A really nice and friendly restaurant. Staff helpful and food really very good - the local battered haddock & chips I had was excellent and just right portion for lunch.

It appeared that we had limited places to choose from in Wick for our evening meal during a road trip on the NC500. We just managed to be seated and order before the coach parties arrived for their evening meal.

Friendly welcome and plenty of staff. We arrived without a booking on a busy Sunday night and were shown a table immediately. Large party in attendance but did not detract from the service provided. Carvery was excellent as were the desserts of which there was a large choice.

One of the best carverys we’ve had all freshly cooked vegetables meat was very tasty and tender, deserts were delicious, staff were lovely and very helpful thankyou! Ten out of ten will definitely be back 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Had two visits during Gala week. one with friends and another with family both visits were good, I love the friendly staff, good service - although it was very busy, I find we can relax in the surroundings & like the decor, Food - great choice but always end up with Chicken Fillets which I struggle to finish but did try Sticky toffee pudding on second visit which was delicious, everyone was happy with their choice and had a good catch up, will visit again soon

Greeted by Sharon the Restaurant Supervisor/Manager who yet again ensured our visit was perfect by making sure that staff responded quickly to the needs of their customers.

We went back here a few times during a business visit to Wick. The steaks were cooked perfectly, and also a good size portion of sides/chips.

Second time being here, Sunday canvery was amazing, meats nice and tender, good portion size, loads of choice of lovely desserts. Staff very friendly. Highly recommended

This restaurant is linked yo the Pentland in Thurso and Castle Hotel in Castletown. All offer good value Sunday carveries. The Norseman dining area is more spacious and the good, as with the others, is very good. V

This was my first visit to The Norseman Hotel after several friends had recommended it. My father had come up to visit and I had booked for the carvery not knowing that it was Father's Day - so I was lucky to have booked in advance!

Nice friendly atmosphere when entering,had a while to be seated but staff were attentive .choise of 3 roasts and portions were plentiful and finished with great sweet selection.

We had an amazing meal on Sunday. The carvery had a huge choice of meats and vegetables and the desserts were first class. We'll definitely be back.

Had garlic mushrooms to start, which weren't bad and scampi as the macaroni cheese was all gone and this was all delicious. My boyfriend had haggis bon bons which he enjoyed and a roast pork as well which they happily supplemented boiled potatoes for chips. The only bad thing was that on arrival of the main he was told it was roast beef and not roast pork actually - was a little odd not to mention this before we ordered but fortunately he likes both so this was fine.

We visited the above today and were shown to our table by the head waitress Sharon. Lynn took our order and I had the steak and ale pie, vegetables and potatoes. Karen eventually decided on the haddock and chips with side salad. The restaurant was very busy in several of the rooms but we were served by Lynn in a reasonably prompt manner who proved to be an excellent waitress. The food was piping hot and of excellent quality. Certainly the portions were very generous but, too big for me and I was able to take home that which I hadn't eaten.

Evening meal was excellent and service was very efficient and friendly. We ordered food at the bar and it was delivered through to the lounge where we were sitting in a large group, which helped keep the company together

never fails to disappoint, we've attended weddings here, had work nights out and the sunday carvery! the staff are beyond helpful and the hotel, bar and restaurant are decorated to high modern standards, their food is always on point and i know every time i go i'll leave full and well and truly satisfied.
