We were taking a self catering break, based in Portgordon, and had searched online, for a dog friendly restaurant - luckily, the Mill house came up. We had an excellent evening. A really dog-friendly establishment with great staff - We, and our Black and Tan KC Spaniel (Milo) were made to feel very welcome and comfortable. Menue choice was good and all courses were tasty, good proportion, superbly prepared and presented.

Firstly the menu was different to what we had looked at online (way less choice) and secondly we were seated in the breakfast room, not very cosy or comfortable. On the positive side, friendly staff. Cullen skink was ok, so were the haggis and blackpudding bonbons. Then we ordered lasagne and chicken and leek pie for our mains. My husband found a hair in his pie, and that was dealt with quite well, but that meant I just finished my meal as my husband received his new pie… So not the nice, romantic meal that we were hoping for.

Delicious evening meal for our anniversary. It did seem slightly haphazard to start with but the food was excellent and the service absolutely fine. Glad we went. We are gluten free and the gluten free options were really good and the gluten free crusty bread with the antipasti was delicious (rather than the usual defrosted slice or two).

Absolutely outstanding! Bottle of prosecco (thanks to my other half) was in the room ready for us arriving. The bed was the comfiest bed I've ever slept on! The jacuzzi bath is just amazing! Absolutely massive and seriously enjoyed a glass of prosecco while in it. The food has absolutely no fault what so ever! Massive portions, and the cocktails are to die for! Staff are so pleasent! So happy and always there if you need help or any questions. Only been back one day and recommended this place to my work colleagues already. Will definitely be back!

The Mill House is a lovely hotel full of character in a perfect location for walks or to use as a base to travel to local beauty spots. It is surrounded by natural beauty and a short distance to the local villages / towns / beaches etc… The rooms are clean and tidy with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The food is excellent, good choice and fantastic quality local produce. The staff are amazing, so warm, friendly and professional. Nothing is too much trouble as we found to our delight on the last night of our stay. We had gone for a few drinks in Buckie and ended up chatting with some very friendly locals, one of whom owned the bar we were in. Several hours had passed and several drinks downed, we suddenly realised we might struggle to get a taxi back to the hotel. Our fears were realised - no taxis available ! The bar owner shouted “It’s sorted, I’ve got you a lift”. Minutes later, Janette and Ellie ( staff from The Mill House) turned up and said “We’ve come to take you back”. They had just finished a full shift, it was 11:30pm and instead of going home they had gone out of their way to pick us up. We were so happy and overwhelmed at this gesture of good will but they dealt with it as if it was all in a days work. This perfectly sums up the Mill House and all of the staff there. Genuine, friendly and nothing too much trouble. We will definitely return next year !! The local area is beautiful, the beaches (especially Lossiemouth) are stunning. White sands, crystal clear waters, lovely bars and restaurants, plus … if whisky is your thing as it is mine, there are an abundance of fantastic distilleries to visit. Perfect trip 😊

Menu has been drastically reduced since our last visit - used to be a great choice but not so now unfortunately. Burger was ok - purple slaw not to my taste. Other family member said fish wasn't great and didn't finish it. We also witnessed another table with a only a partially eaten fish when they had finished. Service was good to start with but we had to wait a long time for our sweets.

This quaint yet characterful Hotel is a hidden gem to say the least. From walking in the door for a weekend stay, to the minute we left, we could not recommend this establishment anymore highly. A real must. Our needs, whims and requests were met by a truly perfect team that could not do anymore to help us at whatever time of day or night. This highly motivated group of hospitality professionals made us more than welcome and allowed us to settle in easily in the tranquil surroundings whilst we enjoyed each other’s company. Service is second to none and always warm fully delivered by diligent people. The food and drinks (recommend the cocktails) were truly something to behold and are definitely worthy of culinary recognition and awards in the North East of Scotland, but also Scotland herself. The breakfast will set you up for the day and is at par with any highbrow hotel in any capital city. The rooms are immaculate and the whole hotel is kept to the highest standards. We are definitely heading back, as we have booked again to stay for our anniversary early next year. This place is magical. A must!

On their website states gluten free menu 3 courses for £20 on arrival we was told that the menus on their page are old menus. So we ordered off the main menu- Prawn cocktail was missing the lettuce Honey sesame chicken with noodles came with rice instead of noodles. Eton mess for pudding and we was searching for the meringue. We was all very disappointed Expect my partner who had haggis bons bons and steak which he said was very nice. Booked for dinner a day before, for a meal on last night of our staycation. Arrived bang on time, respecting covid rules, to be met with a surprised expression. Asked to wait in lounge(till table set up? )Then asked for our order, as if that was where we were going to eat. ..questioned this, shown to a table and then moved to a different one. Waited ages for starters- wrong ones arrived, waited ages for 2 correct ones, then saw main dishes being brought upstairs- then taken back down, presumeably to be reheated. Only when delivered, they were not hot! Then offered drink we had not ordered, but waited forever for our drinks and desserts. These came without cutlery, and we still had not been given dessert spoons when we left (ate with extra clean forks from previous course). It was plain the serving staff were untrained and unsupervised. Food was only average and very overpriced. Given the fact that Scotland hospitality recently reopened and are struggling etc., we would not say "do not visit" - they obv just need some time to assess and improve their services. It was nice that the staff asked our feedback on the experience and they did discount the bill, which was appreciated. Please try the place if only to try the Bailey coffee...lovely! Wish them well.

Husband and I decided to pop in for lunch, had a look at the menu online because myself and our daughter are fussy eaters but were both delighted when we found a couple of different options each. Arrived were shown to our table, handed the menu and our faces dropped when we realised the menu and the prices had changed greatly. Both my daughter and myself were left with only one option, macaroni cheese, and god was it the most tasteless one I’ve ever had, daughter didn’t even eat it, my husband ended up eating it and even he said it wasn’t nice. Now my husband ordered the roast beef dinner, well the meat was dry and overcook, two potatoes on the plate and some veg. The price we paid for what we got was ridiculous, I would expect to pay that for good restaurant food not ordinary pub grub. Will not be returning. Oh and I thought places were to sanitise things, we’ll the table and chairs were dirty along with the salt. Serves was also very slow!

My wife and I went for dinner after looking at the menu and thought it would be good, wrong, my main was the trio of duck, again wrong, there should have been confit duck leg, roast breast and duck bonbon, , the confit was missing and the bonbon tasted mostly of haggis, there were two pieces of duck breast which to be fair were good. In my mind if a dish cannot be served as it is stated on the menu it should not be served. The plate was overloaded with potatoes and veg, most of the veg was verging on the raw side.My wife decided to have the vegie thai curry, again not very good, watery sauce , didnt look like the veg was cooked in the sauce.

I had the monkfish risotto as a main and it was honestly the best meal out I’ve had and I’ve eaten out in many restaurants. It was delicious, cooked to perfection and there was no scrimping on the fish. So many tiger prawns and medallions of monkfish- great value for money! We all had the chocolate brownie for dessert which again was delicious and a good size portion. We all had a wonderful night out. Would highly recommend as one of the best restaurants in the area.

We stayed at The Mill House hotel and restaurant for two nights. The cost of staying is very good value, and a reflection that the rooms are a little dated and basic, but clean, tidy, and comfortable enough. The shower has a decent pressure. The hotel is pet friendly! The staff are welcoming, warm and friendly. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble, and all staff were very helpful. The quality of food makes the hotel punch wayy above it’s weight! The food is exquisite. The full Scottish breakfast was delicious, and we didn’t need to eat for the rest of the day, almost passing on dinner too! The food being this good we couldn’t resist dinner. As a lighter dinner I decided on macaroni cheese, it’s the cheesiest I’ve ever tasted! Also there are nice range of beverages, alcoholic and nonalcoholic. The restaurant and staff is why we award a full 5 star rating, plus being pet friendly. The hotel is fine, but be mindful you get what you pay for. We stayed in a hotel in Glasgow costing twice the price, the room was far superior, but the food not a match for The Mill House Hotel and Restaurant. Well done, we’ll definitely return.

Returned to The Mill last week for dinner but unfortunately historic issues with the quality of food persist - overcooked, bland, sat on kitchen pass for too long, and completely unappetising.Service was attentive and good, but does not compensate for the quality of food on the plate. Additionally, the establishment is one of the few in that area that has not subscribed to the current Government subsidy scheme, which would at least help offset prices charged.

The Mil of Tynet has had a recent change of management with an associated change of Menu. We chose to take my Dad their for lunch and were pleased with our tasty meals. I chose their Breaded Fish which was accompanied by Home made Chips; this always delights me, particularly when so many places lazily serve up Oven Chips. My partner went for a Caesar Salad which came as a filling bowl of Chicken, however she thought that it probably had too much bacon. My Dad chose the all day breakfast and finished the plate, which is always a good sign as he’s a bit of a fussy eater If you fancy a filling tasty lunch whilst travelling on the A98 I highly recommend you give the Mill a try. Fabulous food and service. Arrived for dinner to be given menu in bar...had a difficult decision on what to order as there was so many dishes I'd like to choose, even my husband had a hard time choosing and he is quite fussy. We opted for the black pudding starter, was delicious, only downside was there was way too much salad and a wee bit more black pudding would of been nice for the price. Mains were excellent, hubby had venison and I had salmon mornay, both dishes were divine. Desert of choc and rasp cheesecake and rhubarb crumble were the icing on the cake. Really enjoyed our dining experiences and would recommend and return. Thank you

First time in this restaurant since I was a wee boy probably about 45 years ago in the mid 70's. I remember chicken in a basket but not sure if that was what I had. I do remember my dad harvesting watercress from the river though!

Went here with friends for a festive two course meal. Pricey at £24.95 - other local eateries around the £17 mark - and I felt it was just not worth it for the quality of the food. I would not recommend it .

Fantastic warm welcome in the bar before being shown to our table. Locally sourced food makes for a great menu and behind the menu are great chefs, would highly recommend!!

Made a reservation here following a lot of the reviews made on Trip Advisor. We were left really disappointed, whilst the staff were good, everything else wasn't. I had scallops to start, plate turned up with three tiny scallops, all of which were overcooked.

Arrived without a booking and got a table, good start. Sat in the bar with menus and ordered two glasses of wine @ £6.50 a pop, they know how to charge! Menu is very varied, trying to be all things to all men, would be better to concentrate on a limited range. Restaurant is totally lacking in atmosphere, waiting staff are inexperienced with little understanding of dishes they deliver. Having said that the steak pie was good, fluffy pastry and tender beef. Salmon fillet was overcooked, slightly burnt but had flavour. Would not rush back, expensive for what it was.

As the title says we really wanted to like this restaurant. We are new to the area and it is so close to our house but we drive all the way to Cullen or Elgin for meals out.

An interesting and eclectic menu; partner chose chicken in a mild curry sauce, I ordered a burger. Meal started with a couple of virtually stale, cold bread rolls. Mains delivered on plates that had obviously sat on the pass for far too long - so hot.

Staff were helpful and friendly from the moment we arrived. Good menu - from £11.95 main course through to £25 with lots of choice. Food is freshly made, well presented and tasted great! What more can you ask for?!

Stopped at the Mill House after a day out and was not disappointed. A relaxed and comfortable atmosphere where you get to sit in comfort before hand and choose your meal and enjoy a drink. You are then moved to your table just before your meal is ready. Three of us in our party, we all had something different and were all equally delighted. Steak pie, well filled with succulent beef that just feel apart as you ate, under a perfectly cooked puff pastry crust. Italian chicken in a delicate cream sauce with a selection of vegetables cooked just so. Steak special of the day, an 8oz rib eye in a mushroom and red wine jus served with mustard mash. Perfectly cooked and very reasonably at £21. Staff super friendly and attentive with out being over the top. Absolutely recommend if you find you are passing at a meal time, stop and give this place a try.

Sunday lunch on father's Day. It was extremely busy. We all had 2 courses and no-one was disappointed. Food tends to be more high end with starters and main working out at about £20 per person. The menu is fairly extensive with solid traditional fare. This is the fifth time we have been here and we have never been disappointed.

Have had a meal here twice lately and both times was delicious and plentiful. Had a roast both times as was so good the first time. Loads of meat, plenty veg, potatoes and gravy. Will certainly be going back again.

I’m not usually one to leave complaints on trip advisor but I really felt this time it was necessary. First things first, I cannot fault the staffs attempt to be attentive and their excellent customer service skills. However, it’s clear that this place is having real problems.

As someone one else has pointed out, it’s now called the Spey Inn. Was there earlier this week for lunch as in area and parents recommended it from a visit a year or so ago. It was quiet but we got a friendly welcome from the two members of staff. My parents commented on the size of the menu which has apparently changed and did seemed limited in choices. 3 of us ordered the Cullen Skink soup. It tasted fine but not much fish ands lots of potatoes. Three of us then had sandwiches, the Club sandwich was very good, well filled with bacon, tomato etc and was tasty. Me and my mum both had the egg mayonnaise sandwich. It looked different in that it was 2 whole slices of toast which I thought may have been included in the description. That said I can live with this, however what was very unusual and disappointing was the quantity of filling in these two sandwiches. It appeared that there was a smear of egg mayo as in the quantity of butter you would spread on a slice of bread (and in this case it was spread onto 2 slices of thick toast). Without exaggerating it appeared that 1 egg had been used to fill 2 sandwiches . The salad that accompanied it was nice and the fish and chips the other member of our group had was apparently good. We did mention it to the server who said he’d mention our views to the chef, but it just seemed odd. We also mentioned to a member of staff at an early stage of our visit, that there was no soap in the gents toilets (you could clearly see the soap dispenser was empty when you walked in), however when leaving some time later this had not been rectified, despite the fact the restaurant was not busy. It wasn’t a cheap lunch and it was fairly disappointing overall. Unless this was a one off, don’t think I would return.

Today I used my Brodie gift voucher for Afternoon Tea. My husband and I enjoyed the tastiest freshly made sandwiches, quiche, sausage roll and a variety of sweet treats. Although busy the staff were pleasant and helpful.
