Bulas Bar and Bistro in Highland

The really friendly and hospitable staff set the bright tone for this excellent meal. We’d both eaten a lot of meat and fish so opted for the pesto and tomato gnocchi dish. The portion size was larger than expected and the pesto sauce was so sumptuous and fresh. I loved the fresh tomatoes dotted in the dish as well as the chilli flakes. We had gin spritz and oh my goodness, I want to recreate them at home. I could’ve drank the dry gin with apricot and grapefruit spritzer all night. These were priced at £7.25 each which I thought was reasonable given the standard of the restaurant. The gnocchi was £18 so at the upper end of the places we’d eaten at on our trip, especially for a vegetarian dish. However, it was really well cooked, flavoursome and just what we needed. The food was delivered very quickly to our table and our waiter was very friendly. We didn’t have room for pudding but the list looked great. We had the same mains and 2 gin spritz’s each which came to a total of just over £70. I personally think this restaurant is worth the money but it’s not a cheap dinner date. I would go back.

Cannot praise the restaurant more, I booked well advance to come for a meal after a small wedding ceremony with our families. My mother in law called ahead to ask if she could drop by an hour before the booking to put some extra things on the table for us, they were more than happy to oblige and gave us a private room to have our dinner. The food was excellent and the service excellent. We will be back next year for our 1 year anniversary!

From the moment we walked in we knew this would not be a good experience. The barman could not have been less interested in dealing with us. Seemed like an inconvenience for him to show us to our table even though we were the only guests there. The food is way overpriced for what you receive. The chop I ordered was the driest piece of meat I've ever had the misfortune to eat. My partner had the chicken breast burger which was extremely bland. Also our starter was taking away and mains put on the table without asking if we had finished. Got the impression from the staff they just wanted us out ASAP. And they have the cheek to include a service charge on your bill. Avoid.

Had a visit out from Stirling after reading the reviews online we had high hopes, how wrong was we To be fair looked nice until we started Starters : tempura prawns for me and the wife scallops with haggis Mains : burger for me and monk fish in pancetta with vegetable tagliatelle Starter : scallops where very small and rubbery with a thin slice of haggis cut into 4 , scallops defiantly frozen hence the texture Prawns very watery again telling us they were frozen Mains Burger was nice to be fair Monk fish ok Tagliatelle inedible , bland and cold Service was ok 2 cans of coke Total bill £90 Probably worth £40

We had a great experience at the Ballachulish Fish restaurant at the Ballachulish Hotel. Very dog friendly - we took our 3 dogs, one of which is a rescue and is scared of wooden floors. One of the staff members immediately came over with a sheet to put on the floor to help her cross to the table. On top of that the food was excellent - we had the mussels, langoustines and fish & chips. All round a lovely dinner!

Siamo arrivati in serata dall'isola di Skye. È uso (ormai, dopo una decina di giorni in giro per la Scozia, l'abbiamo imparato...) chiudere tutti i locali entro le 5pm anche in piena stagione turistica, restano aperti rari ristoranti, per lo più con prenotazione obbligatoria. Ma di solito almeno un "walking in" (chi accetta senza prenotazione) esiste in ogni località. Qui ci dicono essere il ristorante dell'albergo. Entriamo alle 8 circa, obiettivamente un po' tardi per lo standard locale. Non ci saremmo meravigliati se ci avessero detto che la cucina non accettava più clienti. Quel che accade invece è che un cameriere scamiciato (come nemmeno nei peggiori bar di Caracas...) e visibilmente di pessimo umore (sta lanciando improperi contro qualcuno: un cliente? il suo capo?) dopo averci ignorato intenzionalmente per almeno dieci minuti, dice che se non siamo clienti dell'albergo o prenotati non c'è posto per noi. Quando gli facciamo notare che non ci sono altri ristoranti aperti nella zona, indica con sufficienza un supermercato vicino e ci congeda con un sarcastico "good luck". Ho letto poi recensioni analoghe di altri clienti che nel tempo hanno avuto esperienze simili. A quanto pare la direzione del ristorante approva questo comportamento!

We enjoyed twice a dinner here when were at vacation in Glencoe area. The food was very well prepared and service was great. The prices are at a higher level for this area.

Average food experience. We ran out of options as most places around this hotel close 8.30 or 9.00 and best places are of course busy. We had a caprese salad which was uninspired. I had mussels they were ok but also just that. My wife liked her cod dish. We finished with brioche desert which was sweet on sweet on sweet. I ordered a gin and tonic which was advertised with ‘grapefruit and apricot tonic’. First they brought the wrong tonic. Then they brought a different tonic ‘white grape and apricot’. When I pointed that out they said it was an error on their menu. Would have been good to know when I ordered it. Wait staff is friendly but doesn’t have a lot of experience waiting.

The food in the restaurant is quite good but because the hotel has major contracts with coach trips the restaurant is very busy and noisy. The hotel has a number of lounges that I am surprised can’t be turned into smaller quieter dining rooms. It would make the entire experience so much better.

We stayed in the hotel and were pleasantly surprised by the menu and the quality of the food. Steak and Muscles were wonderful.

It's not the cheapest place in the area but definitely worth a visit. Lots of seafood on the menu. We had the seafood grill platter and the hake, both really nice.

Dopo una giornata in giro per le meraviglie di Glencoe, io e il mio compagno abbiamo cenato nel ristorante di questo hotel. Pesce freschissimo e ottimo (soprattutto il salmone), buoni anche i dolci. La location è meravigliosa, abbiamo anche ammirato il tramonto sul lago di fronte il ristorante. Prezzi nella media. Se proprio devo trovare una pecca, direi troppi capperi nel mio piatto di pesce (ma è un gusto personale). Consigliato.

Oh the mussels! Not cheap but worth it from the local lochs. Langoustines perfectly done with triple fry chips, tartare sauce more capery, perfect. Staff lovely. Again, coaches of Americans come so get your order in quick.

Dinner was quite nice, however due to untrained staff, there was a wait to be served. Time to people watch. Staff were being trained at a table which only seconds before had been vacated.The trainer laid the fresh cutlery down on the chair which must have surely been still warm, while the new person was being instructed!! Moments later once said cutlery was placed on the table, new customers arrived who had no idea what their eating utensils had been through. Due to hunger I stayed and ate, but not before making sure my cutlery was wiped clean.!!

Io e mio marito abbiamo mangiato in questo locale essendo ospiti del Ballachulish hotel e abbiamo trovato una cucina inglese standard. Le zuppe erano buone (patate e porri) e L’hamburger vegetale anche; la carne alla griglia aveva troppo sapore di piastra e l’abbiamo trovata poco gustosa.Il servizio abbastanza celere e gentile.

We ate here on our last night of our trip and wished we hadn’t. Staff weren’t very attentive and we had to wait a good 10 minutes from being seated to order our drinks. We had sirloin steak and the thyme grilled chicken - both with chips. The steak was so fatty and tough, my partner left most of it and the chicken was just a butterflied chicken breast, grilled - no sauce and hardly any garnish so without the peppercorn sauce (which i ordered separately!) it would have beeb very bland and not very flavourful. The chips were nice and crispy on both dishes though. Disappointed as it wasn’t worth the almost £60 we paid, and we left feeling slightly hungry and unsatisfied. Go across the bridge to Loch Leven Hotel - food and service were amazing there!!

The service was very hit and miss. Breakfast was self-service. Evening meal must turn up at precise time booked. My husband and I turned up 10 minutes early and were told we would not be served until our allotted time. I asked if we could sit at our allocated time and was told we could. The second night we asked if we could sit near the window as we had been promised we could. We were told 'if we have no tables near the window you can't.' The Manager then asked one of the waiters to prepare us a window seat. The waiter did this begrudgingly. I went to order a drink at the bar as we hadn't been offered the wine list. Whilst waiting at the bar the waiter asked my husband to order the meals. I had to return to the table to find a disgruntled waiter agitatedly waiting for our order.The meals overall were good. However there is very little haggis in the haggis starter and was not as described.On one occasion a staff member came over demanding I return to our hotel room as my dog was barking. It wasn't my dog who was barking, when I discovered this I asked whether the owner of the dog was going to be summoned as I was.; she ran away.I got the distinct feeling customers were a nuisance to the staff, who would rather we weren't there. Today the access we had us3d to enter the restaurant was locked.

The food very good as well as the service. I would recommend getting reservations as I believe there is a limited number of restaurants in the area. We ate twice with our tour group and once on our own. All three times food and service was very good.

Det er ikke nogen stor oplevelse, men man spiser udmærket her. Vi fik Fish & Chips. Der er en fin udsigt over floden, men man sidder ikke godt i de alt for bløde stole, som man synker dybt ned i.

We ate here as we were staying at the hotel on a DBB deal. The food was amazing, carefully and thoughtfully made, great presentation and was really tasty. The bavette steak was to die for and the burger was a good size covered in a cheese and mustard topping. My husband also enjoyed the game pie.

We ate here both nights whilst staying at hotel, and both nights we had lovely food, nicely presented, good varied menu and desserts delicious 😋 The only reason I marked down score, carpet and fabric chairs worn .

Have always liked the look of this place and dropped in for coffee to see what we thought on Monday 21/01/19 to see what it was like. Nobody available to serve in bar but eventually saw cleaner who suggested I ask at the main reception since the staff were 'in a meeting.' Asked at reception and was told that this would be arranged and that we should sit in the bar meanwhile. Returned to the bar, as instructed, to find two other people now in the bar and being served. Waited another ten minutes as the other couple were served*, anticipating we would be next. Apparently not, as the assistant somehow failed to notice us despite sitting beside the bar. Got the feeling we were not welcome by this point, so decided to leave. Great view enjoyed across the loch however! Shall not be booking a room in a hurry.

The Ballachulish Hotel Glencoe, sits on the A828 on the banks of Loch Linnhe. We dinned in the hotel restaurant. The service and attention from the staff and the food was wonderful. I can highly recommend the herb crusted lamb rump with split wheat, lentil and herb salad (£16.50). I have it on good authority that the beer battered fish and homemade chips with pea puree and tartar sauce (£13.00) was delicious. If we were local we would visit often and will visit again next time we are in the area.

Picturesque settings. Restaurant seats and placing of tables gave good views of the bridge and loch. Fish and chips and beef burger were moderately good. Laur provided professional an excellent service.

We had dinner as part of the dinner, B&B; offer and it really was great value for the quality and 3 courses. Menu had a great range of starters and mains - although more fish choices on the main meals would be welcome. Starters were lovely. Amazing fish soup and excellent ham hock terrine - all home made and great flavours. For main we both had the lamb dish which was very well balanced flavours and super fresh ingredients. Deserts also lovely - parfait and sticky toffee pudding. Also a great range of wines. Lovely friendly and efficient waiters. Exceeded expectations. Was very busy too - deserves to be popular.

Bulas bistro is a hotel restaurant, the decor if not necessarily modern but the food absolutely was. Steaks and lamb were done very well with a lovely mix of flavors. Our server was businesslike and efficient, a bit harried but took good care of us on a busy weekend night. Recommend reservations, especially for large parties. Would highly recommend.

This is the hotel restaurant. The view out over the water and towards the Highlands was stunning. The food was very good. I had the pork and the soup. The rhubarb dessert was also very good. Service was very good. Prices were reasonable. I would pay for the view!

I was with a large group staying at the Ballachulish hotel and dined that evening at restaurant there. There may have been a special menu for our group and I ordered the Scottish Mushrooms on Toast, butterbean Bulas and for dessert I had the white chocolate bead and butter pudding. The food was beautifully displayed on the plate and was absolutely delicious.

OMG!! The food is absolutely amazing. The choice and quality of food on offer is outstanding. The chef truly had been overlooked where a Michelin star is concerned. I looked forward to eating here every day and the prices reflect what excellent value for money it offers. They cater for couples or bigger parties, dress code can be as casual as outdoor clothes and walking boots or dressed up to the nines, nobody feels out of place. We will definitely be back.

Viemos para jantar neste restaurante que era perto do hotel onde estávamos hospedados. Eram quase 9 horas. Vimos tantos carros fora que pensamos que era um óptimo sítio para uma refeição. A primeira coisa que nos disseram foi que a cozinha fechava as 9 e que por isso não nos podiam servir. Perguntamos se conheciam algum sítio perto, informaram nos que não. Uma das funcionárias com pena de nos disse que ia falar com chef para ver se podia fazer qualquer coisa. A resposta veio pronta da cozinha: Sopa e Batatas fritas. Eu pessoalmente não gosto de sopa de lentilhas fiquei a olhar o meu marido comer sopa e batatas fritas cheias de óleo. Quando o meu marido acabou de comer começaram a servir hambúrgueres e outros pratos na mesa ao lado. Da me a entender que o chef teve má vontade, pois nem que fosse uns ovos mexidos podia servir visto que ainda estava a coZinhar para as mesas ao lado....

Used restaurant as part of deal for hotel. The deal was two courses. We opted for three courses and would pay additional costs. I got scottish mushrooms on soda bread for starter, pheasant main and crannachan dessert. All were delicious and portion size was enough. Other half had haggis, beef cheek and cheesecake and no complaints made, looked yummy. Defo recommend here if passing or booking in to hotel.

Delicious food served at this relaxed & unassuming bistro which is part of the Ballaculish Hotel. The views are amazing out across the loch to the mountains beyond. Great value for money & the pint of Guiness my husband had was cheaper than in the pubs! Highly recommend!

The food in this restaurant is so mouthwatering and delicious. I would eat here every day if i could afford to. Great variety and do not miss the entrees and desserts as they are 5 star.

Delicious food at breakfast and dinner. The dining room faces the Loch. I had Grampian Chicken Breast for dinner with Highland Mess for dessert.

We were passing on the main highway, on an early afternoon on a weekday. To find this place, exit from the A road, at the roundabout on the south side of the big steel-truss bridge, taking the exit towards Oban. Drive underneath the bridge; not far away is the hotel, which contains the restaurant. There is plenty of paved parking alongside the hotel.

Dîner correct mais sans plus, un effort est fait sur la présentation des plats dommage que les produits ne sont pas de très bonne qualité. La vue est jolie si vous avez une table près des fenêtres, petit bémol les tables sont un peu collantes, pas très agréable.

This hotel was only a 3 minute walk from the Riverbed pods where we were staying, very busy hotel, so it is advisable to book at night for meals. Although a little pricey, food was excellent and served to you by lovely staff, would recommended it.

La prima sera ci siamo entrati perché ospiti dell'albergo e non avevamo voglia di uscire nella pioggia, la seconda per scelta. Essendo in 4 abbiamo differenziato le scelte e abbiamo potuto così assaggiare più piatti. Buona cucina tipica, con ottime zuppe, molto buoni i piatti di carne e pesce, ampia scelta di formaggi locali (con alcuni blu molto interessanti), discreti i dessert. Ampia scelta di whisky e liquori per il dopocena (tanto si dormiva in albergo).

Quitando el hecho de que tuvimos que volver una hora más tarde de lo deseado porque tenían un meeting con un grupo de 50 personas, el resto de la comida fue excelente.Los camareros muy amables, la cerveza súper buena y la comida... qué decir. El mejor "fish and chips" de todo Reino Unido: sabroso, crujiente, enorme, y con unas patatas tan ricas que daba pena dejar tan siquiera una miga en el plato. También pedimos una hamburguesa de cordero que era espectacular, ¡no dejamos nada de nada! De postre compartimos un Scottish Mess que estaba delicioso. Todo por 35 pounds, con unas vistas impresionantes al lago que no las paga el dinero.Si volviésemos por la zona tendríamos claro dónde repetir.¡Gracias!

Das Essen war sehr lecker. Egal ob Fleisch oder Fisch. Für 2 Hauptspeisen, 2 Getränke und 1 Dessert haben wir gerade mal 35 Pfund bezahlt. Top!!!

We had a delicious dinner here while staying at the hotel. Far better than the usual fare in Scotland. A proper chef and a delicious food. Try the lamb dump. Dont worry about tired decor. Eat there anyway.

Three of us went here for an evening meal and as we booked towards the end of the evening the service was rushed. We had a bottle of red wine which was very poor for the price. The food was average and the service poor. Never again.

Bien servidos y con un trato perfecto por parte del camarero.El precio no es un disparate, aunque tampoco es que sea muy barato. Acorde con la calidad del servicio.

Great selection of wine from the class. Pork belly was a tad on the dry side, duck breast is not served pink but rather cooked well done and served with lentils. Desserts were fine. Ask for a window seat as the views over the loch, bridge and far shore are excellent. All main dishes were garnished with pea shots - it's the fashion.

While most restaurants charge exorbitant amounts for a simple fish & chips dinner, Bulas is just the opposite. The food is reasonably priced, good quality and the service is excellent! If staying as an overnight B&B guest, the breakfast buffet left nothing to the imagination or the stomach! Both dinner and breakfast provided a plethora of culinary delights!

We didn't have a table booked but the really nice manager said if we could be seated there and then, he could squeeze us in, so glad we did as the food was lovely and tasty, we ordered the pork cheeks and the salmon, along with a side of crispy onion rings, they were presented well and nice and hot, there was a big party of guests in but this didn't spoil the atmosphere, the staff were good and pleasant, a great spot for eating or just a beer if preferred

Staying in the Ballachulish hotel this resturants is on the ground floor . Typical hotel resturants with great views onto the mouth of Loch leven . Stater I had the mussels in the bulas pot . Just the perfect amount for a starter And main the fantastic chicken supreme. Had great diner. Lovely staff and a good atmosphere. We however liked the Lochside restaurant better because of the cosy atmosphere, bit lower prices, and somewhat more choice for diner.

We eat here 3 or 4 times during our stay and were very impressed. The food and service were excellent each time. There is a bar area where it is possible to have lunch time smaller meals. We also ate in the main restaurant part and the 'bullas' with butter beans was very good. We'd never heard of 'Bullas' and it very much reminded us of food from Northern Spain.

The Bulas restaurant is in the Ballachilish Hotel. The food choice is good, tasted beautiful and reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and polite.

We had 3 dinners in this restaurant and enjoyed good choice of meals on the menu offering lots of local, fresh food such as mussels, salmon, trout, clams etc. It was reasonably priced and service was good.

Cosy, modern bar in the Ballachulish Hotel with beautiful loch and mountain views. Staff friendly and helpful.

We ate in the Bulas Bar at lunchtime and in the evening whilkst staying at the Hotel.The food was adequate, if not inspiring. The wine List was not extensive, but decent wines were very reasonably priced.The staff were helpful and friendly.

I am always loathe to review restaurants as so much can rely on the chef that is cooking at a particular time. However, we visited early evening on a cold November day, it was a new menu and my wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I had beef rib, my wife had the pork cheek, and we both finished off with an excellent selection of Scottish cheeses. We had a window seat overlooking the Loch. As it was dark I cannot verify the view from the window but passing the next day the hotel is surrounded by Loch and mountains

Late arrival at the hotel left us with the only option of eating in the restaurant. Its not an inviting restaurant ,modern and not in keeping with the hotel. A few candles and better music would help.however the menu was interesting and i enjoyed my meal. Pleasantly surprised,

Was staying nearby and visited the Hotel on a Tuesday evening for a meal. On entering the restaurant area there were three other couples sitting in the bar area and staff setting in excess of 20 tables for dinner( the place was basically empty). A small plump male behind the bar chipped "have you booked" on looking around the restaurant my initial reaction was he must be joking but it was him who was sarcastically laughing at us. He thereafter followed this up sharply and rudely with dinner won't be served until 6pm...on looking at my watch it was 10 minutes before 6pm. We were shown to a table but to be honest on discussion neither of us felt like staying in such a horrible atmosphere any longer and promptly left. Can honestly say I have never been met with such an unpleasant and quite frankly rude greeting in any restaurant anywhere in the world and I'm sad to think that tourists will be met with such a horrible attitude in my beautiful home country. Do not go here if you are looking for a warm Scottish welcome.
