Harris Hotel Restaurant in Eilean Siar

Came for lunch , restaurant was very busy but found us a table in the corner. Enjoyed the lunch , especially the fish chowder ! The service as pleasant, swift and efficient !

Pizza for the children and a civil and obliging staff who couldn’t do enough for you -first time back in over 50 years and would go back

The staff were friendly from taking the telephone booking and during the service. Good menu, very tasty food and lovely dining room. You can have a drink in the bar before or after with a fantastic selection of items and a very knowledgeable steward. We also had a drink in the 'pub' which is attached, bigger selection of beers and they also sell Pizza if you want something less formal.

Wir waren als Gruppe Gäste des Hotels und haben deshalb sowohl hier zu Abend gegessen, als auch gefrühstückt. Beides war gut, aber das Abendessen war richtig großartig. Die Küche ist "rustikal mit Twist", würde ich sagen und da ich Fleisch, Fisch und vegetarische Gerichte während meiner vier Nächte Aufenthalt hier probiert habe, kann ich sagen, dass alles sehr lecker ist. Die Atmosphäre ist trotz der klassischen Einrichtung sehr entspannt, die Mitarbeiter alle aufmerksam und freundlich.

Even though we were not staying at the hotel, we enjoyed a nice dinner in the hotel dining room. Later in the week, we felt like something simple - like pizza and a pint, so we stopped in to the pub. The friendly bartender/server gave us our choice of tables from the ones that weren't reserved. We ordered a pizza with jalapeños, mushrooms, black olives and red onions, plus a Guinness for my wife and a Skye Red for me. They don't normally serve the latter in the pub, but they got it for me from the adjacent restaurant. The combination was so good, we came back the next evening and had exactly the same thing. Recommended.

We visited the Isle of Harris and had four meals here during our stay @The Harris Hotel: lunch, dinner and a light breakfast. The staff are warm friendly and attentive all the meals were delicious. We particularly loved the dinners, all courses well made and presented finished with gaelic coffee. Yummy!

We were not residents in hotel but went for breakfast . After having many mediocre buffets the table service with the choices of menus were very good Freshly brewed filter coffee and fish as part of breakfast both were great. The waitresses were very attentive and offered refills etc quickly. They warned about quantities and warned not to order too much. They were right. Correct and filling for rest of the day until dinner time. Will visit again when next in island.

The pizza had been indicated as a highlight by a few locals....we went especially for pizza and drinks. In great anticipation...but came away sorely disappointed. Service was great . No complaints on staff...But pizza was a game of two halves....soggy pizza base, (when it's advertised as thin and crispy) but great toppings....get someone in who really knows their way around pizza bases and you have a winner...!

Nous y avons dîné, faute d’autre choix a proximité un dimanche sur l’île d’harris. La surprise fut excellente, nous y avons très bien mangé, cob (morue) pour moi et saumon pour mon épouse …. Ce fut excellemment cuisiné… bravo!

The hotel bar and restaurant are not dog friendly, so we went to the hotel Pub, which is next to the hotel. We had a warm welcome and we’re promptly served by the friendly staff. They have the locally brewed Loomshed beers on draft, which are well worth trying. The Pub only serves pizza, but that is no problem when the pizzas are as good as these. Nice thin bases and loads of topping. Delicious. Worth noting you can get the pizza to take away too.

Nice relaxed atmosphere and great food, made it a fab night out with friends. V friendly and professional staff

Really good value for lunch food was top class. It looks a really comfortable hotel to stay in and the staff were very friendly.

We were lucky and managed to squeeze in here last minute on a Friday evening. The service was excellent (which we now know is the standard across this beautiful island) and attentive enough without being too much. The food was absolutely delicious and all served in the most beautiful and homely atmosphere. The bar is a delight as is their outstanding whisky selection and knowledge. The prices were also beyond reasonable - 2 x 3 course meals, cocktails, wine, gin and whisky for a smidge over £100?? Absolutely fantastic.

We dropped into the Harris Hotel Bar for a pizza, they are dog friendly and the staff were lovely, great service. Pizza was very tasty - would recommend. I rang ahead as I didn’t know what time we were finishing a walk and the lady who answered was so friendly and accommodating.

We had three evening at the Harris Hotel, one evening at the restaurant and two evening at the bar. On every evening was the service very friendly and quick. The dinner at the restaurant was very good and honest regional cuisine. The pizza very good and we enjoyed the atmosphere at the bar.

Loved our lunch and the garden. We stopped by for a light lunch and we’re thrilled with our lovely lunch eaten outside in the garden. Husband had a cranberry and Brie sand which and I had pastrami and Swiss. Staff very friendly Sit outside if possible!

This hotel reminds me of the type of hotel that was very popular 30-40 years ago and in which one might spend an entire week in some remote part of Britain. Clearly, it has remained well thought of and the clientele there is clearly happy....

This was our best experience of a hotel meal during our two week holiday. The outstanding meal was the scallops dish which came with veg, potatoes, black pudding, asparagus and sauce. Wonderful. Lovely friendly staff and very efficient service.

My wife had steak & ale pie which was excellent. The chicken roulade meat was slightly on the dry side but the meal was still fine. The sticky toffee puddings for dessert were excellent. Service was good and the meal was good value.

We had lunch here after trying to find somewhere to eat for ages. Nice enough bar area with pleasant staff. The menu was rather limited with very little choice at lunchtime. I had scampi and chips and my husband had fish and chips and actually they were delicious. Good sized meal and at a reasonable price. Sadly though not really that special as we were expecting nice fresh seafood to be on the menu

We stopped in here for a meal when coming to the end of a week long holiday. The meal absolutely delicious. The Monkfish and Langoustine special was perfection! I’d travel all the way back for that and their Cullen Skink.

Don’t get me wrong the food was okay. If you were in a Wetherspoons you’d think you’d done pretty well. But it holds itself out as a nice dining hotel and I could cook better myself for a midweek meal. The staff were also hovering right next to our table for the duration of the meal which was very uncomfortable. Same price as vastly better meals on the island.

We stopped by today hoping to have lunch whilst out for a drive on the island. Unfortunately we were too late for lunch but the staff were very helpful giving us he options for a snack menu. We were more than happy to sit in the cosy bar for coffee and scones. The staff were so pleasant and all safety precautions were adhered to making us feel at ease. A lovely stop,hoping to make it back soon for lunch- a friend of mine recently had lunch there and highly recommended it!

Took a spin out at 9.30am and a walk with my dog decided to go for a hot breakfast .very accommodating staff , hot full scottish breakfast,fruit juice ,coffee,toast with choice of marmalade,jams and honey

We’re looking for somewhere to eat out on a Sunday, which as we found, is quite difficult to do on Harris. But what a great find. We would not normally try a hotel restaurant but this was fantastic, great food and great service. We had the lamb and salmon after tiger prawn starter, finished off with Harris gin cheesecake. One of our best meals out.

Fantastic meal in lovely comfortable surroundings. Smashing room, really warm and relaxing place to stay, would thoroughly recommend.

I had a great meal in this hotel, Cullen Skink was excellent, Covid 19 restrictions controlled very well, felt safe, staff very friendly and professional.

We were staying at the hotel and it was suggested that we make a reservation at the restaurant when we checked in. We didn't have any other suggestions for dinner, so went ahead and made the reservation. I'm glad we did, it was a solid meal. We wound up eating here twice and both meals were very good.

We have been a few times for lunches and dinners and have always enjoyed the food. We were famished this morning and came for breakfast. Luckily the management agreed to ask the kitchen staff to make us something. They even had gluten-free options.

We made 3 visits for evening meals to this hotel . The first we ate in the bar which was quite good pub food but was definitely inferior to the hotel dining room where we ate for 2 evening meals, choosing from a wider range of choices which were very well cooked.

Harris Hotel for dinner this winter was exceptionally good. Considering well out of season the menu was very good, with a couple of interesting specials each evening also. Scallops were cooked perfectly and the lamb was delicious. Eating in the dining area at the front of the hotel was pleasant and intimate rather than the large dining room. Staff lovely and very accommodating with particular requests. Good prices and high quality food, keep it up so nice to have a fine dining option out of season.

We eat out a lot at home in another beautiful scottish island and see so many changes in the way local hotels/restaurants are trying to reduce cost, quality and the amount at the tourists expense.Harris hotel in our view is not going down that road, we ate there the 2 nights when we stayed locally at a recommendation of a friend who is from Harris. Both nights the food was perfect the staff very good i would eat here if i were you.

Booked a table for my birthday and requested a crab starter. Was told they would do their best though nearly out of season. Turned up on the night and they had managed it. The presentation was A1 and the rest of the meal good would recommend the cheese board. Staff and barman very pleasant the bar warm and welcoming.

We stayed at the hotel whilst on a photography workshop, so had breakfast, packed lunch and dinner every day for a week.Some of the food was wonderful - the scallops were fantastic.However, there were a couple of days when things went really downhill. Porridge was produced with the texture of rapidly setting, lumpy concrete, poached eggs were like bullets, and the roast beef at Sunday dinner was inedible. Maybe the weekend chef was having an off day.....

We stayed at the hotel for three nights. Had dinner here and it was just as good as the other restaurants we ate at. We weren't expecting much and were pleasantly surprised at the quality and variety of food we ate!

Arrived in Tarbert on a Sunday afternoon. Nothing but the hotel was open. We spent the night in our RV parked in a parking lot close to the hotel. We ate lunch and supper in the pub. Food was good and the beer cold. Service was friendly and fast. I would go back anytime.

We enjoyed staying in this hotel, a comfortable quiet clean room. Found eating in the intimate bar dining area a very pleasant experience. Friendly helpful staff.

On first impressions the hotel is a bit dated in style but don't let that put you off. The food was excellent and the service equally good from helpful staff. There is a childrens menu and they also offered smaller portions of the main menu which was great. The haggis bonbons were lovely, as was the steak pie. It's not a large restaurant and was full both times we went there so booking is definitely recommended.

We called here without a booking the staff were very professional and said we should be able to have a table within half an hour. We ordered drinks and decided to peruse the menu. Within a short space of time we were shown to a table in the restaurant.

We booked a table for two at Harris Hotel following a recommendation. Service was excellent and attentive (best we had all week) and the food was great too. We had the salmon and the duck followed by sticky toffee pudding and creme brûlée with teas. Lovely place to sit and enjoy good food. Would recommend but make sure you book table as seemed busy!

Staying in Tarbet popped into Harris Hotel for dinner, very busy would recommend booking, freindly and efficient staff. Very nice menu with seafood, burgers, venison, vegan, varied choice, reasonable prices, and decent sized portions. A very popular hotel and well worth dropping into for a drink or meal.

All the serving staff both in the bar and restaurant were very friendly and patient with our group of 6 (including 2 children). We ordered many dishes and all were delicious. The whisky bar had an excellent array of different whiskies. We would definitely recommend the Harris Hotel for dining.

Had an enjoyable visit to the bar, after walking the Postman’s path from West Tarbert via Urgha to Reinigeadal. A stiff walk over a high path, passing two secret beaches on the way. Cool cider at the very pleasant and cosy bar at Harris Hotel a perfect way to round off a perfect day.

We visited with our Cardais group. The staff were very helpful and the food was excellent. As we were a small group the dining room was opened up for us especially. We would all highly recommend this restaurant.

We enjoyed our meals at the Harris Hotel which is best to book in advance,the meals were very good, reasonable prices for a hotel although one night we had a really long wait (1)hour for our mains on stating this to reception they apologised and gave a reduction on the bill.

We had a nice evening meal at the Harris Hotel. I'd checked in advance that they could cater for vegans and we had two choices for starter and one for main course. The food was of a good standard. The dining experience is quite formal / old school and wasn't what we would normally choose, but service and food were both good.

Not many places to eat in Tarbert. We eat here one night of our stay. Menu choice was good and what we ordered was also well presented and tasty. The service was also good. However, we were seated in the area beside the bar and it is a bit dated. Requires a bit of TLC.

I had a steak and ale pie which was pretty good but standard fare. My wife really enjoyed her scallops. We were seated in the pub bit which is a bit tired but it's a nice view of the hotel gardens. No complaints on the service.

Restaurants are few in this area and you’ll need a reservation. We were seated in the pub, which was just fine. Food and service were good. Easy walk from the town and port.

Some of the reviews on here are sniffy about the device. But our experience was exceptional. The most charming waitresses on the Hebrides and a manager that was so considerate that he drove us back to our b&b; because it was raining and i wasn't wearing a waterproof jacket. The food was good too, especially the soup of the day. And the Victorian setting of aged grandeur added to the unique appeal of this place.

The hotel is set off the A859 at the western edge of the town about 5 minutes walk uphill from the Harris Distillery (signposted for Stornoway). The gardens are well maintained and on our recce mission we sat out front of the entrance overlooking these in sunshine and had a nice cafetiere of coffee with some shortbread (£6).

Came here thinking after the reviews we would be happy with food . Cullen skink was relatively nice , the haggis bon bons , bland and served on a dollop of mash that was shaped to look like quinelles . Service non existent . In fact I asked waitresses how they were , no return question. Food came , here you are , away they went . Sat with dirty plates in front of us for 15 mins , half eaten as not enjoyable . Not a word was said . Not a was that ok , is something wrong , are you too full ? Sorry was like a school dinner . Asked for the bill which was brought over and we sat there with a card to pay for 10 m until someone told the waitress to tell us to pay at reception . Luckily just a one night stop. Based on what we experienced , we wouldn't reconmend

Stayed 3 nights,dinner menu was good with reasonable prices. Breakfast was great too,plenty of fruit juice,cereal and fresh fruit.

Warm welcome received. Scallops were well cooked, accompanied by good black pudding. Great fish and chips (good portion size). Enjoyable meal.

We were staying in the hotel, and eating there seemed like a good deal. It seemed a bit expensive but the next night we went into another place in Tarbert and the prices were about the same. Food was excellent, service was good, and we had a seat with a view of the garden.

The restaurant is set in an old fashioned dining room, with tartan carpet! The service was prompt and friendly. Good menu choices including vegetarian. All our meals were delicious at reasonable prices

What a gem of a place.....cannot believe I’ve taken so long to visit Harris Hotel but boy am I kicking myself for taking so long!

Visited this hotel for a family lunch,very clean but small dining area,waiting staff very attentive and menu was reasonably priced but a few issues were annoying

Set well in the 1970s, the restaurant claimed that the island lamb rump was one of the specials. Not hot enough and with stale and unpleasant roast potatoes it failed to live up to expectations. The lady on the next table sent her meal back as the meat was cold.

Good service and very good food. Traditonell Scottish ”homecooking”. Nice small restaurant with a view of the garden.
