Woodlands Center is located in Stornoway. It is a very peculiar wooden house, a teahouse made entirely of trees, and it is built in the jungle. The scenery is beautiful and the temperature is cool.

A lovely space to have a coffee and food, however it was a very long wait for two coffees and a roll. Would definitely go back though, just for the scenery.

Having checked out the limited choice at the castle, we wandered the grounds and walked down to the Woodlands cafe, which are still within the grounds of Lews Castle. It has a small car park but it’s not far to walk down and back. Alternatively you can park across the river and walk across the bridge. It seemed to be short staffed the day were there and the upstairs was closed and it was busy and wet, so there was limited seating, but we were lucky. I had the sweet chilli chicken toasted sandwich with salad and added chips. It was OK but a little disappointing.

Went twice in few days, once for lunch and the other for breakfast. The breakfast had been rated by friends, but not from our experience. A big pile of microwaved eggs claiming to be scrambled eggs. The black pudding was tepid and the sausages were tough. The sandwiches from the lunch includes some Pringles on the side and very basic bread, but loads of lovely cheese on the sandwich. A very ordinary experience compared to what is now available in Stornoway.

The food is fine but the service is appalling. I doubt many of the staff would find employment in the hospitality sector anywhere off the island, or anywhere that depends on custom rather than grants. We were there with our baby daughter and asked for a baby seat. They said they would bring one. But by the time we left they didn't seem to have done what they said. Then when we got up to go, we noticed that in fact they had brought a seat but they'd left it behind me without telling me. This is quite typical of low-intelligence staff: "You told me to do take the seat. You didn't tell me to tell the customers I'd brought it". You have to ask what kind of mentality is required. Hospitality is all about relating to customers. "Here's the seat," someone could have said, and I would have turned around and thanked them. How many brain cells does that take? But as I said, the food is fine albeit expensive.

Food was nice,we sat outside as we had our dog with us.I really would have expected better, the tables outside were dirty dog bowls had green like moss or algae on the bottom of them inside ,bins were full and overflowing and therefore rubbish was all round as the birds had been scavenging from them.Really would have expected much better than this.If it's as dirty as this now how do they manage in the summer when they have tourists. Food fair, surroundings dirty.

The man who served us was happy to be flexible with the order when I wanted to swap an item out on the breakfast that I can’t eat for another which i appreciated. The food came quickly and it was a relaxing atmosphere with a nice view into the trees. The woodland centre also has lots of parking and clean toilets.

We had booked 3 nights stay here but were a day late arriving as our ferry was cancelled, owing to fog. A 7 unit site with 2 showers with a toilet in the same room [En-suite]. One of the rooms was, imo, suitable for disabled guests. The facilities were clean with no extra charge for the showers. As the area was "remote" from the main site - hundred yards away and out of sight of the main site - access through the gate, into the shower/toilet block and chemical disposal point was by padlock code or Door Key Code. It worked and probably necessary as adjacent to the main road but slightly annoying. Good water supply and Grey water runoff easily accessed. The most expensive site we used in our holiday through the Outer Hebrides but West Harris Trust is a Community Charity so any profits presumably channelled back into Community Projects

We have just enjoyed a stunning meal at Number 30. Beautiful seafood chowder, then we shared the cod & seabass main dishes, very differently prepared, both delicious.
