The best restaurants serving British food in Badenoch and Strathspey Highland Highlands and Islands

We made a "reservation" via the web site enquiry facility. We were offered a choice of times. We replied with our selection. We arrived at the appointed time to be met by the owner saying that they had no record of our reservation and could do nothing for us because they only had food prepped for their expected guests, I showed him my email reply to which he said that he had never seen it and would talk to his IT people the next day! That was it. No empathy, no attempt to resolve the problem. We had to leave, organise transport and find a way to rescue a disastrous evening planned as a birthday celebration. Fortunately we found a restaurant that had food available and was flexible enough to serve customers at short notice. I don't know how good the food is at The Cross and won't ever attempt to find out. If you risk a reservation don't rely upon technology, nail it down.

Great staff. Good portions well priced. Stayed overnight in car park free use of toilets while cafe open. Short walk to loch.

Not very good service at all. Staff weren’t attentive and our food came before our drinks… will not be back unfortunately.

A really large group of us with kids booked in for a late lunch. The menu options were comforting pub grub style which were great for everyone. We were well looked after by the lovely staff were lovely and it was very reasonably priced.

We were looking a place for dinner and luckely we found this restaurant. We were sitting next to the fire with a drink while choosing our meals - lovely. The meals we got offered were great! Well prepared, special in combination and from high quality. The friendly staff and the performance of the chef can be assessed only as very very good.

Friendly and good food had it a couple of times on our holiday.

Try the sweet chilli haggis pizza, it's amazing.

Took 3 dozen lasagne pies from Maclean bakery 3 weeks ago. Gave some out to friends and they told me their families though they were best ever pies. Well done to the team for this wonderful product.

Site advertising EV charging,got there and charger not working,drove away so lost sale. EVs are not a fad,there are a lot about so provide a working charger or lose sales.

Having lived at the campsite over 20 years ago, I was excited to go to the cafe and see how it had changed. I left very disappointed The outside of the building was drab and badly in need of a paint. We walked in to the cafe and most of the tables were covered in dirty plates and cups. From half way to the counter a young girl informed us loudly that they were no longer serving food (around 3pm) and we could only have take out coffee but no choice of milk (only looking for semi skimmed too !) The toilets were all empty of toilet roll and not particularly clean. It was a hive of industry a few years ago with a lovely shop too. I won't be in a rush to go back.

Terrible food with terrible service the staff just can’t be bothered and don’t hide it. Tried this place twice never again

Thought I would try a scotch pie. It was solid. Not nice at all. Bought At 1pm was kept warm under lights wasn’t nice at all. Under heat light too long. Or from yesterday

I was positively surprised by the food in the restaurant, as we thought it would be more of a pub style. We got the steak and Guiness pie, which was delicious, and the black pork garlic, which was lovely as well, and the presentation was great. The restaurant is also really cute. It did take a while to be served. Nice selection of beers.

A nice clean little cafe, the coffee and tea we had was well presented. The staff were friendly and cheerful and gave a homely atmosphere to the cafe.
