The Malt Shovel is located on one of the nicest streets in the city. It's been 21 years since we were here. It was nice then and now it was great again. Very pleasant reunion with this pub. A lot of tasty beers (I did not have whisky this time), good pub food (Balmoral burger with haggis was delicious) and the service was friendly and good.

Cozy atmosphere, great food and very nice selection of drinks. Great for an informal dinner or just a drink. Central location.

Great place, stopped in for food, served in next to no time. Excellent service from our waitress Hollie. Definitely be back.

Attended a 21st, one bar person to serve 80 plus people..he was quick, but must have been pretty stressed out..

Really disappointing evening. We used to come here a lot and popped in for a drink to reminisce about old times but the place has changed a lot. The beer was nice but the evening was impacted by 2 customers playing their own music out on their phone at their table, and the bar staff ignoring them and letting them do it. One of them even walked to their table twice whilst clearing glasses. It shouldn't take another customer to have to ask them to stop. Staff didn't seem to care at all, maybe that's the atmosphere they want? In a city rammed full of great pubs, I'd be avoiding in the future. We left after 1 drink.

Made an order on JustEat, and they cancelled it saying they were closed. I made the order at 2pm on a Saturday, and the opening times say you're open to 9:30pm.

Lovely clean rooms, plenty of tea, coffee, milk, and sugar. Comfortable bed. Lovely cooked breakfast . Staff very friendly and helpful.

great food, great atmosphere, great service, acceptable prices, AMAZING music, just overall good vibes! fairly cheap for a good quality carvery although their meals are a little more expensive than for example wetherspoons, but i think the atmosphere makes up for it guitars all over the walls, feels like a 60’s-70’s american diner them with many classic songs playing, banish artwork on canvas prints around the walls just a great place to go out for a wee meal or drink

Usual well cooked food. It's quite dark inside. So, I'm not sure just how clean the tables etc were.

The food is great and the service is great. Really enjoy getting food from here!

Nice friendly place for a good no frills drink at a reasonable price. Have visited a few times and constantly made to feel welcome

We only had a few drinks there but the cocktails and the selection of whiskeys were amazing. On a Tuesday early evening it was quiet, not too noisy, very spacious!

Quirky decor. Excellent beer and service.

Good food. Delivered in good time. What more can you ask for?
