The wait for the food is a little longer, but thanks to the welcoming atmosphere and the service, it doesn't matter. The food was excellent

I find it hard to share details of my experience at the place, given it was a few weeks ago, but I'm not sure if that is to do with age, time passing, or pints drank. Drank or drunk? Pints drunk, pints I had drunk, pints I had drank, what verb tenses even are these? What verb tenses are these even? It's really remarkable how little knowledge of syntax and grammar as us lowly First language English speakers have, remarkable and shameful at the same time, I feel like I'm waving my hands In front of me wading through the dark, while tall Dutch people stand above me debating future perfect continuous in the passive voice

A friend recently introduced me to this place and I adore the space! And the staff are lovely! I'm sure I'll be a regular and I'll drag others to join me!

Only called in for a beer,but my wife insisted we try the food too…proves she’s a lady with immaculate taste! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful,service for the drinks was speedy and the beer recommendation was perfect….now onto the food! We ordered the cheese and bacon burger,the malt shovel house burger and a portion of onion rings….they came quickly and were unbelievably tasty…well cooked,full of flavour not at all greasy and filling without making us feel bloated…absolutely hands down the best burger meal we’ve eaten! From the outside it just looks like a classic olde world pub but the food is out of this world…go and give it a try,it’s only round the corner from Waverley station,an Edinburgh gem!

Absolutely awesome pub, very relaxed pub vibe, the bartender was extremely knowledgeable from whiskey to the city’s history and secrets. Food was excellent very tasty 👌🏼

Great spot close to the tourist areas but with the authenticity of a real Scotish pub. The staff was fantastic with Flo really standing out and making our 4 visits, 4 days in a row the best! Highly recommend!!!!

Older lady that 'served' us was incredibly unwelcoming, saw her being rude to other tourists as well. Would have left without buying anything if my friend hadn't already ordered a drink. Honestly surprised there's not more negative reviews based on what I witnessed today

Totally nice pub in the old town. Great service and the food was really OK, even if you don't have the highest demands on the size of a steak and the quality of the meat. Fish and chips were very good. Portions larger than usual in the city.

What a lovely little pub! Came in at the weekend for some lunch and Jamie was so welcoming. So nice to get off the streets for a bit and be welcomed with a smile. He was so attentive and checked on our food which was brilliant. We will definitely be back!

Staff were fantastic so freindly and welcoming . Very dog freindly the staff were great with our little 6 month old dog.

Staff really rude... asked for a scotch coffee and the bartender seemed annoyed at this. Upon leaving my boyfriend and I thanked her and she didn't bother to look at us or say anything in response (we were well within earshot). I've never given a 1 star review in my life but I felt like we were not welcome here

Very Scottish pub 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, we each had a burger with chips and everything was good! I recommend the whiskey sauce and the IPA beer!

First meal in Edinburgh I went in with my daughter inspired by the menu and by a desire to eat fish and chips again, which I can say was very, very good, my daughter's Mac and cheese was also good. Friendly and courteous staff, small but welcoming environment. Super recommended

Ate here because it was close to our Hotel and we were very impressed. Seating was tight but the food was delicious and the service excellent.

Ordered the fish and chips. It was raw on the inside. Complained and they replaced it but didn't appear to be bothered like it happens all the time.

I tried the Sirloin steak, good meat but a little nervous all the same. I also tried their Belhaven beer, a locally made beer (in the photo), excellent with caramelized notes, very original. I don't drink beer, so a great discovery. The waitresses are smiling and the welcome is warm. The pub is superbly decorated and in its own right, we come to Scotland for that 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿!

Food was sub par, my boyfriend ordered a steak and ale pie and it was literally meat in between a bun. My Mac and cheese was okay! The pub has a nice homely feel though

Je suis venu manger ici avec ma copine, j’ai voulu tester les Mac and cheese, je vous avouerai que je ne m’attendais pas à ça, c’était très pâteux et pas très copieux. Ma copine a pris un burger au mérite de l’excellence du Cheddar, quelle surprise elle a eu en voyant qu’il y avait pas de cheddar. Ceci dit personnel sympathique, très bonne clientèle et bonne ambiance. Nous retrouvons l’esprit écossais.

Nice pub in the heart of the city

If you are ever in Edinburgh you have to visit this place. Beautiful bar, excellent Scottish dishes and a friendly and entertaining staff with a lot of humor. Add to that a good selection of beers and whiskys. Cheers from Sweden, they took good care of our group.

This is a great pub in the busy part of town. Brilliant atmosphere, beer and food. We woll be back again during our stay.

We found this little gem by accident and wow, do I wish I was local! The hospitality was amazing, a warm welcome, further pints being brought to you table by genuinely friendly and efficient staff. We will definitely be returning next time we are in town. We have tried many taverns over the years, but this was by far the very best. Compliments to all of the lovely staff, keep doing what you are doing, we'll see you again soon :-)

Great staff, very friendly and welcoming

Lovely Atmosphere, great Mulled Wine & best Guinness. All at amazing prices, and location, great for people watching. But the best part is the staff, I had left my scarf in there (maybe after a few too many mulled wines), and realised a few days later, called up and they were amazing, let me come in before opening to collect it.

Great bar within minutes of Waverly station.

Lovely place, cordial and quick service, good food and drinks. The mulled cider was a lifesaver in the chilly November evening. We had the steak and ale pie and the slow cooked pork belly.

We went in for lunch, very friendly and helpful staff when asking about details (allergies). Fish & chips were definitely up to standards with a nice tartare sauce, the portion of the mac & cheese was quite small but good. Cosy atmosphere!
