Our Family ordered 2 fish suppers on Tuesday 22nd July which they collected boxed denying viable appreciation costing £20. The contents of only one box was barely edible. The second box comprised a fish shaped heavy batter no fish. Quite clearly the employee who packed these ? fish suppers could not have missed that one box contained nothing more than a fish shaped inedible lump of batter. Shockingly disgraceful lack of service in fact 2 faced robbery. Our dinner was a disgrace.

Fish and chips done fresh. I'll have to order online next time to start collecting the loyalty points! This is more of a note to self as I keep forgetting to do that and just pop round on the night.

Food good if a little expensive.

Popped in for late Smoked Sausage supper on a Thursday night. Unknown to me it was just approaching closing but the staff were very happy to make me fresh chips & a smokey despite them clearing up for the night. I was not only rewarded by their kindness but an exceptionally delicious supper. I would definitely recommend.

Fantastic fish and chips, and great service every time. The staff are friendly, the batter is light and crispy, and the chips are stupendous! We definitely recommend a visit and have become regulars.

They seem to constantly get your order ever so slightly wrong, this time i went they gave me the completely wrong thing. When i phoned up the person on the phone said he remembered taking my order and that he'd heard me wrong, but he said that if i wanted the correct order i would have to pay again. An annoyingly common issue with places like this.

While I would previously had been four to five stars for food, I think I was the first customer that evening and the fish I got was really not good, like it had been sitting around for quite a while.

Something that used to swim in the briny blue, minding it's own business, that's now deceased and covered in crispy flour. Something that used to grow in a farmers field that's been yanked up, cleaned up, cut up and cooked. Fish and chips...it is what it is, and it ain't fine dining....

Brilliant fish and chip shop. Best in Edinburgh 🌟 Chips are not greasy and lovely fresh fish and chicken goujons. Very sad to see the reviews slating young teenage staff. The staff are all lovely and while young, incredibly professional and friendly. Strange for grown adults to feel the need to insult younger people.

Rude service. Ugly boys with no desire to feed the hungry. Rude. Won't use again when there's 20 mins left of their opening hours. Honestly just rude .fat blanks

I ordered for collection, which was very straightforward. Food was all ready when I got there. Really friendly staff, they’re obviously busy but I thought they were a very efficient team. The food quality was lovely. They’ve done well to maintain such excellent standards after all these years

£12.50 for fish supper and 40p for a paper bag to put it in! Mediocre pale battered fish with a small portion of chips. Nothing ready or on display and all cooked to order so you’ll have to wait if you just turn up . Get the impression it’s mostly for Deliveroo and online deliveries. Priced too high for what you get . Shame as it used to be very good.(Post Note: I got the price of their paper bag wrong, as they have pointed out- it’s 20p for a paper bag 🙄I stand corrected.

Used to be one of the best chippies in Edinburgh sadly no longer. Quality of food not nearly as good as it used to be, prices up and customer service non existent. Why close 20 mins earlier than advertised.

On a rare visit to my home city I decided to treat myself to a fish supper from 'L'Alba Doro. What a disappointment. The chips were very ordinary, but worst of all was the fish. A big fish, but the batter was a shocker. Limp and flaccid like a wet rubber that separated from the flesh! It had the texture of a wet wipe. Not impressed. The place itself is sparkling clean and the staff are friendly, but, please, crisp up your batter!!

Great suppers, cooked to order so usually a wait unless you order ahead. Fish and black pudding are excellent. Portion of chips with the suppers could be a bit more generous.

Fish and chips and battered mushrooms are delicious. Avoid the onion rings as the cheapest frozen rings from Lidl are far better. Prices have gone up everywhere but 12.50 seems high for fish and chips. Most important, double-check your order before you leave. I was very disappointed when I got home to find they left the chips out of my bag. When I went back. they refused to replace them. There are lots of glowing reviews and recommendations posted on the walls, but none are recent. L'Alba d'Oro has been my go-to chippy for 14 years after trying many in Edinburgh but I'm going to try out a few others now.

I can honestly say this is the most over priced chippy I have ever been to. Ordered 2 fish suppers, 2 southern fried chicken suppers (which was 5 chicken bites per supper) 2 tubs of garlic mayo 4 cans of juice £57 I could not believe it. The fish suppers were excellent nice fresh fish with lovely batter but very modest portion size for £12.50 £2.50 for a tub of garlic mayo is just unacceptable

Really impressed with ordering system to collection. Food was superb. Staff excellent and extremely obliging. We are a group of 21 bowlers and holding our end of season game. All went well due to L'Aba D'Ora having everything organised. Thank You Goldenacre Bowling Club

Soooo- the atmosphere was alright and the staff isn't unfriendly, just young and a bit confused by the look of them. Lucky we ate in store or we wouldn't have realized that the tartar sauce (not included- had to pay for it) was not in the box. Not the best fish or chips I've had... not by a long shot. The batter was sticking to the packaging and the chips were soft... soggy if you will. Everything tasted under seasoned and when my husband asked for salt he was given one packet.The tarter sauce was overwhelmingly caper-y. The mozzarella sticks were fine. The garlic mayo was delicious. Wouldn't come back.

Delicious fish🐟 Nice crispy and flaky batter. Not heavy or dense like others I’ve tried in the past. Chips were average. Overall, good flavour and a nice takeaway. :) Thank you.

Chips where freshly made and haggis tasted good felt £9 for a haggis supper was a bit expensive. Took about 20 mins to cook but everything was fresh and really hot.

Overpriced Fish n chips , fish was not fresh dry n rubbery very Dissapointing . teenage kids running the place with no idea and experience it appears. This is no longer the place for fish n chips in edinburgh many better options, lalba doro is not what it used to be years ago unfortunately.

This fish and chip shop closes way too early for Scotlands capital city, 9:30 pm is the current closing time and that’s even throughout the Edinburgh fringe! Crazy. I turned up at 9:20pm for a takeaway and was abruptly told “We are closing!” Very rude and not customer friendly. The food is expensive, but quality is good, pity about opening times and customer service. There are a lot of options for takeaway food, so this restaurant needs to step up.

Paid through the roof for pathetic portion. About 15 chips and the smallest haddock I have ever seen. Won’t be returning. Roll on Giovannis reopening.

The food was nice and fresh. The service was good, although a little slow at times due to the young inexperienced staff. But unfortunately the prices are rather too high.

Food decent but vastly overpriced in comparison with competitors. £12.50 for a Fish Supper! £9+ for frozen chicken breast pieces. £2.50 for Garlic Mayo, £2.90 for a wee tub of cheese. No need for prices like this. Food decent, nothing out of the ordinary though and why put chips on top of the fish?! Going downhill overall.

Young teenage staff, untrained and very low customer care with rude behavior. Food was uncooked and inedible must be one of the worst chippies in Edinburgh. Skip this, go around the corner and buy from another place.

Went in to order a simple small chips, all 3 teenage staff behind the counter ignored me and served someone else who came in behind me. Then after saying hi to the guy behind the till who had taken the previous order he ignored me and walked away. Absolute height of rudeness and need a basic course in customer service.

25 minute wait. Fish supper cooked fresh however ruined as obviously inexperienced young staff not cooking it correctly. Terrible atmosphere of not being bothered. A bit much when you are paying so much.

Scotland renowned home of fish & chips , always enhanced with condiment of " chippy sauce" sadly , L'Alba , now charging for sauce . Worst Romana on Sunday early evening. breadcrumb over cooked, tasted of burnt paxo stuffing on this occasion. Will go to Franco's in future . very poor customer service. abrupt and and unhelpfuleye contact, then after i prompted them , was told very sharpley that id have to wait another ten mins.. kept me stading around for ages while they dealt with a delivery. no

I guess before you leave you need to check the takeaway box to see if it actually has your food inside...how can they hand you your order that you have stood and waited for and not have checked they actually put the food in the box? It is utterly bizarre and for the initial reaction on the phone afterwards to ask how this happened to be laughter and disinterest before being offered a refund made the whole fiasco even worse. I used to think this was a fantastic chippy but I was obviously wrong! The general service is not very friendly anyway and the food that we did receive in the other boxes that they actually managed to fill was bland and cold (literally was a 5 minute gap between being handed the food and starting to eat it so why was it cold...?). Overall this was a ridiculous experience that completely wasted my time and I will never ever return, and will recommend others to avoid as well.

This chip shop was once the jewel in the crown in Edinburgh but sadly not anymore… probably the worst value for money fish supper.. very little fish in the batter and not a lot of chips .. quite expensive too!!! Huge disappointment …

They don't serve fried pizza, which is very surprising for a scottish chippy. The lad behind looked confused when I asked. It is expensive for a portion of chips. Not recommended.

First time using and was very optimistic..... However, I was extremely disappointed with the service, price and quality 😑 I had a couple of fish suppers that took a while to arrive and were small and full of grease. Sorry its a bad review as I'm sure you are proud of your business and its obviously a popular place, but it's a no from me.

We regularly order from here and it’s usually plentiful and tasty but this time all our portion sizes were pitiful, maybe time to try elsewhere.

I ordered a fish supper, smoked sausage supper and a bottle of diet coke this week - delivery via deliveroo. Total (including a £3 tip for the delivery person) £34. It's vastly overpriced. Diet coke turned out to be normal coke. hardly any chips and a small fish. Wouldn't like to see their actual 'small fish' option. It used to be that L'alba D'oro was the place to go but not any more and I doubt if I'd use them again.

Pretty good fish and chips. However...they don't sell mushy peas! Seriously. A chippy that doesn't sell mushy peas. Beggars belief! LOL

Really need to sort out their batter recipe. It’s stuck to the paper in no time. Crack the batter and serve fresh fried chips and they’d be on a winner. Pity most chippies can’t nail this.

Not overly keen, but not the worst I've had by a long way. Seems hit and miss from reading other reviews. Like others have pointed out, the batter was soggy and portions inconsistent. It was a particularly busy time when we ordered. Perhaps they were overcrowding the oil with fish to get orders out fast, but this means the oil cools and then soaks more into the batter (soggy). There was also an odd smell - old oil? Unlikely to return.

First try of this famous place and we'll be back. Good to see they proudly list suppliers. My battered sausage was huge and still succulent with a light, crispy batter - not too heavy like some places. Fish and chips was well cooked and the chips were a good quality spud. The young lads working were terrific and the place was spankingly clean - not even a licl of grease in the holding tray

Started using this chip shop late last year. The size and quality of the fish and chips are first class. Batter is crisp and the chips nice and fresh. Compared with one or two places in Broughton, close to pubs and entertainment, this is in a different league. There you get a tiny thin fish hidden under a ton of batter for similar money. My only criticism is the absence of traditional pickled onions.

Great chippy to have just down the street. Wish the french fries were twice fried and a little slimmer though. Very friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.

Perhaps my expectations were too high. Perhaps they were just having a mediocre day. But, my fish and chips were a bit underwhelming. The chips weren't crispy and the batter on my fish was soggy from grease. The fish itself was tasty, and I loved the Franks Spicy Mayo Dip!

After a beer at Clark's bar fish and chips looked the best option. Score really a 3 and a half as my haddock was beautiful but the chips needed to be crisper but decent enough scran.

Bought a fish supper. Fish was ok, average but only got about 10 chips, not about 10, actually 10 chips! For £10.90. I wouldn’t be rushing back after feeling a bit ripped off.

Very disappointed with tonight’s meal- black pudding supper The black pudding was in three unappetising slabs. And the chips were mostly thin indigestible scraps. Whilst I appreciate the added costs to businesses with ingredients nevertheless the customers don’t expect poor quality as a result. It will be a while before I repeat the experience.

Fantastic Fish Supper! The difference between the crispy batter and the tender fish was intense. Chips were on point! Portion was big enough for me without stuffing me too much. Will go back!

I used to go to albsdoro alot but I won't b going back they have cut the menu down. and is very expensive now £7.50 for a white pudding supper £5 for a single il b going back to the other chip shop in raeburn...

We got 3 fish suppers last night. The fish was nice but the batter was under- done. Also, the fish should be laid on the chips not the other way around. Result- this made the batter even less crispy. Altogether, a really disappointing fish supper...

Having first found this place in 1991, it never fails to deliver. Fresh cooked in front of you fish which is well worth the extra wait, staff lovely and very organised.

It’s happened again. I ordered a battered sausage supper and a pickled egg with ketchup in the corner. I was the only person in the shop. 10 mins later it was ready. I checked the contents of the box - no pickled egg, and no ketchup. I was told “sorry we didn’t charge you for the pickled egg”. This was then added and charged. The young lad then picked up the ketchup and was about to start splashing ketchup all over the supper when a command of “stop” was given by myself. I repeated my request for ketchup in the corner. It seems a simple sausage supper from the only customer in the shop is too tough for this unit. Sadly, this is the 2nd time this has happened. Addition: I have been back recently and it was very good.

Equivalent four miles away is £12.10 . The fish here was good but no better and the chip portion was meagre and pretty dry. In hindsight, not surprised how quiet it was

So just nipped in here 2 grab a bag of chips while waiting on the other half dropping a del off..I decided to have a smoke S w) my chips. But Wen the girl stated it b 5mins I Declijned nicely as was only grabbing a quick bite as my bf was doing a desk next door but then one of the lads sed just to let me have 1 of there Smoked S's that was already done ..so that was greatly appreciated..by both me Nd the bf. After the Calcutta cup game my son brought a poke of chips home for me. The chips were mix of normal size but lots of tiny one sscraps almost and the colour was deep brown, Either over cooked or the fat was old and should have been replaced. So be careful tell whoever is buying for you not to buy if far too brown in colour.

They do a few things well, and have been doing well for many years. Good fish and chips.

Not sure why this place is highly spoken of. Soggy fish. Scampi was meh. White pudding wasn’t horrendous. Chips were soggy and about half the size of a portion you’d expect for the price paid. Scarily it was all fresh out the fryer. Hate to think what the stuff in the hot holder would be like. Resting on their laurels of previous awards it would seem.

Unacceptably high prices, in my opinion. Ordered a large chips and a side of halloumi fries and it came to £12. The portion size of the "large" chips would be what most chippies would call a normal, and the halloumi fries (about 5-6 slithers) were meagre and tasteless. Shocked and disappointed
