The Golf Tavern in Edinburgh, City of

Pub on the edge of the city center golf course at The Meadows. As I was invited there on a Sunday, Sunday roast. Very good but be careful first come first served. Beautiful establishment and legendary place for golfers. In summer they lend you clubs to play opposite. Go there for a beer or a cider if you’re not playing 😉

Great pub for watching the rugby. A bit studenty but very impressed with the service considering how busy it was. Food was decent too.

We only had a few beers a couple of times, we really liked the atmosphere, the place is big, on Fridays and Saturdays there is a lot of atmosphere, a pint costs £5-£6. They also serve food but we didn't try it.

The food was inedible. We had the mussels as a main course which was undercooked and rubbery, as well as the fish supper… the batter was so hard I thought I was going to break a tooth. The mushy peas were dried out. There were no condiments offered with the chucked burger and when we requested some sauce and vinegar we were told by the server, she was really embarrassed but the had no sauces left. I would not recommend eating here on a Friday night.

Absolutely brilliant venue, always a lovely atmosphere in there. Pint selection is incredible and the food is even better. We even got so enjoy some darts and pool, thank you to Will for helping us sort it out, he was a star ⭐

Not good for food. Didn’t get given any cutlery, told us they were bringing it and then never did. No staff to ask to grab the cutlery for us either. Also no sauces or seasonings offered. Is good for drinks but wouldn’t bother with food !

the brunette girl tessa was brilliant she was so friendly and gave great service remembering my name when i came back up. she. so great to be greeted by friendly faces will be back soon!

Brilliant device, visfileerders form the Netherlands and had such a great time due to Tessa and her service, her friendliness just made the atmosphere. She was such a delight we will be recommending to all our grinds coming to the capital in the summer. Definitely will be back ! Thanks Tessa for such a great evening

Busy, warm and nice inside. Only lost a star because we kept getting distracted by the insane amount of TVs and because we weren't 100% into the music choices which were mainstream pop songs but from 15 years ago. Also, no toilet roll but that's normal.

Visited today had a fantastic Sunday Dinner each, one gluten free. They chef and staff couldn't do enough. The food and service was fantastic. The portions are big for Sunday dinner. We had roast beef, potatoes, yorkshire puddings gravy and lots of veg. We will certainly be back.

Pleasant enough traditional pub with nice stained glass. Off the main drag and quite quiet when we visited.

I live behind this bar, and had to endure debilitating noise coming from their AC unit fan for I'd say almost a year now, that is ~50dB at 5am in the morning level and never goes away. It's driving me mad. I have spoken to staff & building manager at the Tavern multiple times about this matter since December and was never taken seriously, and any talk of getting an engineer to look at it never materialised. I can only conclude they are 1) racist and classist, and 2) have zero regard for their neighbours.

When presented with the Bill we were charged way above what we were originally told. The toilets were absolutely disgusting.

Went for the Super Bowl fantastic venue for a watch party, the staff were very friendly and good at what they do

The special beef was superb, very tasty and tender.

Gracie was fabulous! We didn’t get any food, but she offered amazing service and the live music was fab!

Different review from last one. Staff very friendly but misinformed us of price if the special! The bill was quite a shock. Very pricey for what we ate. And a service charge added???? The toilets were disgusting, filthy and no toilet paper. Disgusting.

It was a cute little pub with fun golf themed decor. The food was tasty and came out relatively quickly. Free bathroom to use as well

It said on their website they'd have the rugby on yesterday evening - they did, but only downstairs, which was reserved for a private function, and despite multiple requests they wouldn't put it on upstairs.

Quaint pub, with karaoke later in the evening. Food was quite good, drinks were tasty. Shop was full on a Wednesday evening.

Family pub with lots of TVs showing sport. Simple selection of dishes, but something for everyone. Local and international beers on tap. No real ales. If you don't like cold beer, you have to wait until it becomes pleasant.

Great place for a pint, nice atmosphere and sound staff. Miles and Adam (I think) went above and beyond!

Great spot for a drink and a bite - you can rent the clubs for the links golf course as well!

Not up to their usual standard. Undercooked, tough meat in steak pie, soft, greasy batter on fish and generally unappetising food. It's a sports bar so you expect to see matches on all the tvs. These televisions however, were blaring, making conversation impossible. Very disappointing all round.

What a boozer, filled with great people and great scran. Was served by a guy called Myles on the bar, what a legend. We had such a laugh I found it boring going and hanging out with my current pals! Haha (shh)

Very nice pub with a great selection of beer and spirits, Myles was very attentive and extremely helpful to both me and my girlfriend, would be happy to come back again.

Such a nice bar to visit when you’re in the city, good big screens and great selection on draft. Bar staff are all so sound but it’s always great to see Myles again, always looks after me and my mates and is so attentive and just all round good patter. See you next time

I visited the golf tavern several times during my stay in Edinburgh over the fringe period. A jovial atmosphere, special shout-out to myles with whom I formed a great rapport. Keep up the great work, guys!

As someone who has been local to Bruntsfield and Tollcross for the best part of 5 years, I had always thought highly of the Golf Tavern and I always assumed my experience with this local boozer couldn’t get any better. But since my last few trips where I encountered their star bartender (startender if you will) - Myles. He is truly an asset to the company and with his witty banter and fantastic guinness pouring skills, I can smell success for him in the future whatever he does. I think a promotion is surely in sight as he provides top tier customer service. If his moustache and his private school boy charm wasn’t enough, his can do attitude and great work ethic confirms that he is a truly fantastic employee at the Golf Tavern. PS - get the nachos.

Great pub to visit, food was very good and great staff. Served by Myles who was very accommodating and welcoming as soon as we arrived, highly recommend!

I decided to pop into the Golf Tavern for the first time last week, and I’ll certainly be back! I was greeted with a big smile and great chat from one of the bartenders, his name was Myles if my memory serves me correctly. This was my first pint since I ran the Edinburgh Marathon so I was wary of its effect on me. However, Myles’ tales of his DJ Syndicate ‘Across The Board’ and their many exploits put me at ease. This paired nicely with a salty bowl of frites! I shall be returning to this watering hole as long as Myles continues to reside there. 10/10

Had a great night enjoying some live music and the cocktails served to us by myles was the cherry on top. Top guy.

I attended a PDR tonight at the golf tavern, and came away extremely impressed with my experience!! The upstairs bar is a great venue for holding functions; it is spacious enough to host a decent-sized party, and yet the cosy seating (sofas etc.), table areas and opportunity to play darts/pool also imbues the space with an intimate and friendly atmosphere. They have an impressive range of drinks on offer, and the student deals they provide were extremely popular with the younger members of the party. Particular praise has to be awarded to the bartenders Alex and Sophie, who were not only super speedy with the drinks service, but did so with smiles on their faces, singing along to the songs and truly enjoying their shift. Kudos to Golf Tavern for creating both an amazing venue space, and clearly a very positive work experience. I can’t wait to come back!

A few months ago I attended (along with a large group of friends). I asked if they were serving food. The bartender with brown mullet said they were not. I noted the time and thought it was odd for the kitchen to closed at such a strange time. I asked another member of staff and they said that they were still taking orders. I ordered and watched an even larger hen-do sit down to eat as well. After waiting an hour (and watching the hen-do receive their food) and repeatedly asking the staff what was going on, there was no food. What I did notice was confusion amongst the staff, and the mulleted genius who caused the problem was nowhere to be seen. When I first asked where the food was the staff said they didn't know anything about an order and asked me to order again. This took a few more attempts before finally I got my burger after 2 hrs. I thought this was the worst customer service I had ever had in Edinburgh. Yesterday, the same incompetence and lack of communication between bar and kitchen occurred again. After waiting another hour I started to feel like The Golf Tavern was gaslighting me. Like an abused partner whose husband denies remembering things they said, the staff seemed oblivious to the fact that I was the only person who had ordered food and yet they still couldn't remember what I had ordered. Each time I have been refunded for the food that eventually came and yesterday the young blonde bartender did at least try to apologise, whereas the first time there was no apology. I have now eaten at this establishment for free. Twice due to gross incompetence and an apparent continuing problem with communication. Yesterday the manager suggested that there could be a problem with the tech that sends the order to the kitchen stating 'we've had problems for the last 2 weeks'. This is not the case because the first appalling experience happened a few months ago. If the issue with food orders continues and refunds keep being made, there will be no Golf Tavern.

This place is a gem. I didn't know it was there but spent the day watching golf and and snuck in about 26 holes on the short course across the street.

Both the drinks and food were not very palatable but the vibes were immaculate

No había estado aquí por siglos y nos vinimos a tomar una copa. Terminé pidiendo comida. La pizza vegetariana de coliflor crujiente fue increíble, mucho mejor de lo que esperábamos de un pub y la mejor que hemos tenido en siglos. Bonito lugar relajado y fuimos bien atendidos por Ben que era muy amable y conocedor del menú, ayudándonos a elegir nuestra comida que estábamos encantados con. Sin duda recomendable.

The atmosphere is great, staff is friendly. Only thing that disappointed was the gravy pie, which is not a pie but just pastry dough and some steak and fries on the side. Annoyed my all night that I ordered a pie that wasn’t a pie. Just had to get that out, but otherwise awesome place

No respect for neighbours. Regularly breaking the noise licensing laws (as in every evening). They allow loud, drunk people to spill out and shout into the surrounding residential area; no attempts to control. They seriously need security on the door managing the smoking area. No actions taken when complaints are lodged by myself and other locals.

My wife and I had fond memories of The Golf Tavern from 5 years ago and returned this week to find the place as wonderful as we remembered. Truly a first-rate establishment all around. A great selection of drinks including cask ales on the taps and in the bottles of brewed and distilled beverages; great dependable pub food. BUT the blue ribbon goes to Poppy for her cheery and personable service behind the bar. Truly a consummate professional in every respect and deserving of a rise in wages — better still, put her on a generous salary. Poppy is a gem.

Tried to order something off the menu posted outside, was told the menu had been updated but not the one outside, I asked for the new item that had replaced the “golf burger”, regular steak burger, I received a tofu something burger and almost gagged on the first bite, ordered a cider and the person behind the bar couldn’t find cider in any of the coolers?? Food was gross, service questionable, loud place… not a great experience…

Tuve mi fiesta de cumpleaños número 30 en The Golf Tavern después de estar allí un par de veces antes para otras funciones privadas y no decepcionó. La comida / bebidas eran fantásticas y todo el personal era absolutamente increíble, no podían hacer lo suficiente para ayudar. También nos ofrecieron karaoke en la noche, así que fue una sorpresa divertida y todo el mundo tenía una pelota absoluta. Gracias especiales a Shannon por organizar esto para mí y también a los barman Will y Chris por ser tan serviciales - leyendas absolutas!

I went to the golf tavern on Saturday and was served by the wonderful young gentleman Ben. He poured the best Guinness I’ve ever seen. Will be back, highly recommend. Would highly suggest it to my fellow golf loving Americans, definitely worth the visit.

Recently came for an 80th birthday party, our bartender Will was absolutely fabulous really made the night and had a great knowledge on the drinks selection. Would highly recommended for a private event.

A solid choice for a pub. You really can't go wrong here. Good tunes, good food, good beer. Fast service, fair prices, student discount, plenty of tables. Nice location, great outside seating. No complaints.

Our bartender Heather was particularly friendly and made our night so much more fun!

In for the Scotland game the other night. Decent amount of TVs for sport. Nice chilled atmosphere. Can't rate the food as never ordered. Great, quick service despite it being busy for the game. Fane(?) was stand out in terms of knowing what bourbons were available, and made a decent drink of one!

Usually a good place to come. Horrific service tonight from a bar staff member. The greeting was a scoul.. She pulled the Guinness I asked for. Got a straw to the top of it and put it on the counter without even a word. I said thanks. And she didn’t even respond after being paid

A place with a good atmosphere and a variety of food, it has a dining room on the upper floor. They don't serve on the tables. The bar area is a little small but nice.

What a great place to visit, we had a pint, played pitch and putt on Bruntsfield links hiring clubs from the bar returned for a fabulous meal at prices all can afford, then watched 2 games of Rugby on the big screens. The atmosphere was brilliant and the drink cost what you would expect from an up the toon bar. We'll be back.

Great pub, arrived about 11.30am,played around of pitch n put, went into bar after got 10% of our food, Tv's all round and great selection of drinks etc, Food was amazing. Left around 21.45. Definitely recommend

We went to play golf and thought it looked nice so we wanted to eat a burger afterwards. It was quite empty so no stress for the staff. However, the veggie burger was overcooked, and very dry. After asking for some mayonnaise, the waiter explained that there was no mayonnaise left. 5 min later he brought a portion of chips topped with mayonnaise out for the staff to eat. No need to say that we weren't happy with the service. I was at the pub before and it was much better. However this time it was really disappointing.

The beer and golf deal is fantastic. We’ve ordered the golf & beer package and decided to leave the pint till after we play. We were served by a nice and polite guy. Once we came back, we wanted to cash in our pint. A waitress behind the bar decided to be difficult and after I’ve explained to her 3 times she was trying to charge us for the beers over and over again. After I explained for the third time that we just wanted our beers from the golf & beer deal she decided to get hostile and snappy. Real shame because the first bartender we talked to was very nice. Clearly the ginger girl had some attitude problems.

Such a sweet pub. We had delicious nachos as well! But if you’re wanting to play pool, don’t bother with this place - it won’t happen. We’ve been to the Golf Tavern specifically to play pool 5 or 6 times now. We got turned down each time due to there not being enough staff. This weekend for the first time there was staff - so we got to play one single game of pool before a member of staff came to let us know we can’t play any more, cause he needs more seating (in a room of of empty tables), which meant packing the pool table away. I think the pub would be better off getting rid of it, or removing any trace of having one online so people don’t waste a trip only to be disappointed.

Golf club rental and a beer for 10quid. What’s not to love.

Staff are all really friendly, I love coming to Golf it’s one of my favourite student spots in edinburgh. The prices are very reasonable. One of the bartenders (I think Sophie?) was really great and chatty! All around enjoyed my visit

I usually go in for the football and have always found it to have a great atmosphere and like the history of the pub because I like traditional pubs.
