We turned up on holidays from overseas and walked in, entire front section full so we sat at an empty table to the side. Bartender comes out and has a go at my wife and me for sitting there. Fair enough, we state no signs and no chairs at the front section and the bartender goes, these people are leaving. So he makes us stand next to a table of four people who are still eating and now have to rush their meal. Bartender goes there you go, food and crumbs all over the table. We asked for a clean table and he proceeds to wipe the food onto the chairs we are about to sit on. We wipe that off by hand as he leaves. I ask for a cloth as he missed a fair few bits, no stress, I'll just give it a quick wipe. Bartender comes out and wipes the table, gets about 1 cm from my face in an aggressive manner, chest out and in front of all the customers, some from our tour group, and goes through gritted teeth, " is that good enough for you mate " in an angry snarling manner. I was like, you speak to all your customers like this. Possibly the closest to a full on fight as he was up for a punch on, the bartender, with customers. WTAF. Super aggressive for a such a small man, considering I was bigger than him and was a paying customer on holiday. Customers apologised to me on his behalf and we all accepted maybe he was having a bad day. I'd avoid this place, couple of pubs short walk down the road far friendlier. Put me a bit off Scotland which was disappointing since it was my first time there, my descendants are originally from there and the rest of the places were nice.

We had dinner here the other week and the food was very good, the fish ‘n’ chips in particular, we passed this comment onto our waiter who said they had a new chef and he would be pleased to hear this. But this time it was extremely disappointing. My fish looked like it had been deep fried several times, the batter was brick hard and the fish was dry and tasteless. The steak on the steak sandwich was also pretty bad, it was tough and had lots of gristle. This experience has put us off going back to eat here. We informed our waitress how bad the fish was but no discount was taken off the bill, even though she could see it had hardly been eaten. The bill also showed a price of £15.25 when the menu price was in fact £14.75! The blackcurrant cordial and soda here is charged at around £2 more than most other places.

This is a serious warning especialy to real ale and Camra menbers a friend his wife and I have been visiting this pub for over 40 years but two weeks ago I and my friend, both members of Camra had occassion to critcise the quality of one of the ales on sale when we next attempted to order another round, of another ale which was in much better condition the barman refused to serve us stating that we were criticising his quality of beer which is quite correct we were but I I think this was quite justified under the circumstanses. This is a pub purporting to be concerned about real ale and in fact do offer a 10% discount to Camra members so be aware they will not permit even genuine critisism of the quality of any of the beers on offer and when critisism is expressed refuse to serve you.

Fantastische ervaring. De pub is terecht 2 jaar op rij "pub of the year"

Sunday roast was very cold, with the exception of the roast beef which had been heated up I think by frying slices of meat? The meat was incredibly overcooked, black in places, desiccated and impossible to chew, you could crack it into thin pieces like American crispy bacon. The Yorkshire puddings hadn’t risen and were flat like biscuits, burnt on the edges with a texture like Melba toasts. Service was friendly and pleasant. We didn’t complain as we were on a day trip with a kid and didn’t want a confrontation. We paid and left as soon as we could. Honestly the worst meal out I’ve eaten in years. Avoid.

I didn’t have the best experience at this pub. Upon sitting down we told the waitress that we had a bus to catch in an hour and she assured us our food would be ready in about 30 minutes. Nearly an hour had passed and others who sat down and ordered after us were starting to wrap up their meals before we received ours. The staff did not apologize for the delay and instead tried to convince us that we hadn’t been waiting very long or that perhaps other tables had ordered less food than us. I didn’t appreciate the lack of empathy and misinformation regarding meal prep time. We ended up boxing the meal and rushing to our bus. Aside from the delayed service, it is a cute pub. The peri peri chicken wings were quite good and the burger was okay. I wouldn’t completely write the place off, but likely not my first pick if I find myself back in Linlithgow!

Disappointing meal. Been here a few times and always happy but this time on Sunday 23rd June I was there for a Birthday treat. It was very quiet but after ordering we had to wait an hour before we got our meal and when it did come it was cold. The steak pie was just a bit of meat with a flaky pastry on top swimming in a plate of gravy with a further dish of gravy to go with it. I live here in Linlithgow and know this pub well but don’t think I will use it again

Came here for lunch for old times sake first time in a few years we had been looking for lunch whilst visiting Linlithgow. Very pleasant waitress took our order my husband knew he was having fish and chips I opted for chicken Kiev. Quite generous servings but oh dear think the fryer had been too hot fish looked a bit crispy mushy peas too long in microwave all dried up. My chicken Kiev was too well done I could hardly cut it I resorted at one point to use my fingers, but don’t think a steak knife would have cut it. A bit disappointed when we had been looking forward it. Saving Grace was our pleasant friendly waitress.

Came here today as seen it was dog friendly we ordered our food which took a while to come but put this down to a bus tour being in which is understandable the Cullen skink came had a skin on the top and not much fish apart from that starters where ok. The mains came and the plates where hot sadly that was the only thing that was hot we got two macaroni and chips and a steak pie the macaroni looked like rice pudding and had no taste the steak pie came with the biggest block of cabbage if I had a rabbit it would eat like royalty for a week. When the plate was cleared from the bartender we told him the food was served cold and he said ok I will speak to the cooks and if we wanted dessert on the house after the disaster of the mains we decided against this he went to see the chefs and never came back so we finished our drinks and ten minutes later paid as we paid and went to leave he returned and never spoke to us not an apology not have a nice day nothing sadly we won’t be back but judging by his service he would be happy with that. so for the grand some total of £73 for what was tinned macaroni feels like a bit of lack of quality and service for price.

Visited after a visit to the palace. I can't fault front of house service all waitreses were great. We a party of 4 and a dog were seated quickly, drinks came minutes as after ordering. I had Cullen skunk from the specials menu,it came with a thick skin on it not very appealing to look at and was far too creamy with very little smoked haddock. My wife and son had the crispy calamari which was rubbery enough to bounce. For mains I had the Sunday roast beef special which was inedible,I have never in my adult life had to spit something back on my plate but the roast beef was as tough as old boots,my roast potatoes were cold the cauliflower was at the end of its career. The rest of my family who love their food never finished their meals. No one enjoyed it. I said to the waitress about my roast beef and she took it off the bill. I am only giving the three stars because of the waiting staff. If I was giving a rating on the food alone it would be a 1. If your going for a pint only. It's a nice wee pub. Just get a packet of crisps.

We did not enjoy our time here. The service was not good (waiter had only been here for 1 week) and the food was average (we travel a lot and eat out regularly). My Beyond Burger was fine but the cabbage with the steak pie was awful. It was a strange addition to the meal and half of it was the core end! The duck dish was so strange and messy and the accompaniments were not suitable at all! The crab starter was terrible. The waiter spoke too much and kept on saying sorry (irritating) instead of attending to our issue which was the second order of Belhaven which took faaaar too long. He said he had put the order through but didn't bother to check with the bar. When we tried to cancel the order he checked the computer again and confirmed that it had gone through. The service was simply slack and we told him that we weren't going to tip.

The pub was very lively, we picked this pub as it was advertised as dog friendly, on arrival our dog was given a bowl of water which was much appreciated, unfortunately we had to deal with a publican that had one to many to drink and frightened our dog (basically would not leave her alone and kept getting in her face), we were then asked to quieten down our dog or leave. We did manage to stay for dinner as we managed the situation ourselves, the food was okay, quite basic, burger was dry and the chips were over cooked. A relatively cheap meal, unfortunately would not be in a rush to go back.

Although the food we ended up eating was very good the experience itself was a bit odd. We were shown to a table at the back of the pub and asked for a credit card that they would have on file during our meal. I have never been asked to do that anywhere else in all the years I have been travelling. Understanding that this wasn’t the fault of the server we complied. Then we waited and waited - to have our order taken and then to receive our food. Kind of felt like we were being held captive.

We visited the West Port on the last night of our holiday in Scotland. The restaurant was not to busy when we arrived for our booking at 18:30. After a couple of minutes we were shown our seats and ordered drinks which quickly arrived. I ordered the Steak and Venison Pie, which was really nice with flaky pastry, the veg were great and still a bit crunchy just like I like them, mashed potatoes and a lovely graveyard, yummy. My had Fish and Chips, the portion size was massive, she failed to eat it, one granddaughter had the ribeye which was cooked to perfection, the one had Burger that she really enjoy. Great place for food and the perfect way to end our holiday.
