What an amazing place, the owners Scott and Steph supported by Katie gave us an amazing experience from start to finish. We were invited into cosy and relaxed lounge area to take as much time as we liked before dinner with every drink you can imagine. We were blessed with an appearance of stags and deer outside that freely roam the estate. When we decided to move into the restaurant Steph the chefs cooking - wow !!!!!- every chosen and surprise course was incredible. We’ve eaten out a lot but nothing compared to the quality of the cooking here - it all worked so well. Their thoughtfulness and inclusivity when it came to my wife’s gluten free alternatives was the best we’ve experienced where every course, even some to nibbles had a gluten free option. Throughout the evening Katie and Scott were amazingly attentive, and Scott also gave his time to educate and allow us to try some of the amazing collection of whiskeys. Blown away by the whole experience and thank you so much. There’s a station just outside this remote restaurant and the thought of taking a sleeper up for a few days is one we’ve started looking into already.

Popped in here for lunch as had tried a couple of other places and weren’t too fussed at the menus and were after something to warm the cockles. We were not disappointed. Lovely cosy cafe with a lovely autumn veg soup and a perfect baked tattie. Portions were big and staff kind and courteous. Had a good chat and got some recommendations for local walks. And lovely coffee! I also left my phone charger because I’m a daftie and only realised when we got home to Glasgow and they have been kind enough to post it back! Great service. Recommend the window seat. Perfect place to watch the world go by. Thanks guys!

We chose this hotel for our evening meal when overnighting at the Atholl Palace. The setting is magnificent, as is the lounge where superb canapés were served. Unfortunately, the meal itself (not cheap at £65 for 3 courses) was disappointing, and the service was a bit haphazard. My starter (asparagus) was more raw than al dente, but my husband did better with his white onion soup. Both mains (pork roulade and featherblade of beef) were overcooked, dried out, and sadly lacking in jus. I skipped pudding, but my husband again did well with his ginger sponge. We mentioned our disappointment to the waiting staff, and the delightful receptionist deducted our drinks from the bill. Without being asked. Coffee and tablet in the lounge improved our mood, but we wouldn't rush back. Maybe the chef was having a bad night !

This was a lovely cafe, serving lovely breakfast and bakes but what stood out was how lovely the staff were. They greeted each customer with equal interest and a personal touch, kind, friendly, attentive and great food on top of it!

We had one of our best meals of the trip at Sandemans. All of the dishes were delicious, but the whole experience was even better because the sommelier was so knowledgable and took our meal to a whole other level.

A fantastic meal and very friendly people, I cannot believe the review about the unfriendly and rude staff, I was present at the time, they were turned away because the wanted take the own food into the restaurant to eat, I don’t know of any restaurant that would allow people to take in their own food, I wold definitely recommend the restaurant and the food

Another wonderful visit to the Watermill! My family enjoyed the soup, filled rolls, toasted filled croissant, chocolate cake and the best coffee around! Friendly and efficient service with delicious fresh food in a unique setting - simply wonderful, highly recommend!

This is the first time I've written a scathing review. We were staying a weekend at one of Errichel's self catering properties with our children and grandchildren. We were celebrating a 70th birthday and it was also Mothers Day, so the family were treating us to lunch. I have to be careful with what I eat, and was drawn to the avocado and feta dish on the menu. On ordering I had requested a slice of sourdough instead of granary, for digestive reasons, and for a poached egg instead of feta. Perfectly reasonable requests, and smashed avocado with a poached egg is a particular favourite of mine. It's simple food and I was looking forward to a light and pleasant lunch. Now, when someone is described as a chef patron, one images that they take pride in their work and are competent in offering guests an enjoyable and delicious experience. Errichel disproved that completely. The plate that was put in front of me was disgusting. A plate of food should first and foremost be well presented, make you savour the moment and entice you to enjoy it. This plate was none of those things. It was horrible. Had the family not been present it would have gone back to the kitchen, but I wasn't going to upset the young grandchildren. My husband , sitting next to me, quietly commented on it to me. I'd ordered the same dish a few months earlier at a birthday lunch somewhere else. It had looked amazing, and was so appetizing, beautifully presented perfection. But that was The Orange Tree. At Errichel, the chef patron had replaced the one slice of sourdough with two pre-sliced bits of supermarket bread randomly smeared with something red, and had laid thin slices of greeny grey sludgy stuff on them. I think it was avocado, though it wasn't that lovely vibrant green and certainly wasn't smashed , neither was it seasoned. There were two poached eggs, and a heap of sad, wilted rocket on the side. In fairness the poached eggs were fine and tasted good. I made an attempt to eat the tasteless grey avocado but I have never been so offended by a plate of food. It was vile. Why not make a fuss about it at the time? Our grandchildren are 3, 4 and 5 years old, they were having fun together and I wasn't about to spoil that for them or their parents. One positive thing was that their food was served first. However, one of the grown -ups meal failed to arrive with the others, so we had to ask for it. Disappointing. I'm left wondering why chef patron doesn't care about the impact his poor attitude has. Good, simple food, well prepared and presented is a delight for the customer, and should be a source of pride for the one doing it. Why do it otherwise?
