What an amazing place, the owners Scott and Steph supported by Katie gave us an amazing experience from start to finish. We were invited into cosy and relaxed lounge area to take as much time as we liked before dinner with every drink you can imagine. We were blessed with an appearance of stags and deer outside that freely roam the estate. When we decided to move into the restaurant Steph the chefs cooking - wow !!!!!- every chosen and surprise course was incredible. We’ve eaten out a lot but nothing compared to the quality of the cooking here - it all worked so well. Their thoughtfulness and inclusivity when it came to my wife’s gluten free alternatives was the best we’ve experienced where every course, even some to nibbles had a gluten free option. Throughout the evening Katie and Scott were amazingly attentive, and Scott also gave his time to educate and allow us to try some of the amazing collection of whiskeys. Blown away by the whole experience and thank you so much. There’s a station just outside this remote restaurant and the thought of taking a sleeper up for a few days is one we’ve started looking into already.

This was our second visit to the Moor of Rannoch Restaurant & rooms. It was just as good as our first visit. Dinner was superb and breakfast delightful not your normal run of the mill Scottish breakfast. All with such fantastic views and visits from the deer who always seem to turn up at dinner.

We have just returned from a holiday in Scotland where we have stayed at several places and visited a number of Houses and Gardens which equips us with comparisons for reviews. This had been on our list for a number of years and we had planned to travel by train but the train, ferry and buses do not align and so we travelled by car along a lovely road. In passing we visited the Palace of Scone which was a highlight. We were greeted by Scott who made some sort of ambiguous statement about our room. He offered us tea and then asked us to complete a form. This was irritating as we had already been asked for the information by email. This place was very expensive and so our expectations were high but we did not feel welcomed and our expectations were not met. The evening meal was absolutely amazing and the man who served us was gracious and entertaining. However, when we arrived we thought that our room was very small. It was also hot and we opened the windows as is our wont and went for a walk to look at the station. We saw the train and were fascinated by the information centre and the cafe. We were not prepared for the midges and think we should have been warned. It was like being in a big bitey mist. We had not read the information on the website and it was not clear what was included in the price and so to be charged for after dinner tea & coffee and Petit Fours seems strange. The worst was to come. When we went upstairs we found our room was filled with midges. We asked for help and Scott came and vacuumed the bedroom and bathroom. The person who served breakfast was delightful but the breakfast was disappointing. We left feeling dissatisfied and uncomfortable and would not return.

Good & relaxed from arrival to departure, this is a fine restaurant. Located at the very end of the single track rood to Rannoch Station, this place is worth visiting. Good, modern interior with good air flow and no food smells. All the staff were good, professional and friendly. The restaurant has a good vibe about itself being stylish, quaint and homely. The wild life outside, deer grazing, makes this a unique and exciting place to be. Unfortunately it is a dog friendly location, which personally I don’t like, but the dog inside was well behaved. The meal is a seven course tasting menu with a three choice option on each of starter, mains and dessert. The good quality ingredients made for superb starters of Monkfish sashimi & Pork belly. For the main courses we had the Halibut and a vegetarian Cauliflower steak dish, again these were excellent in taste, presentation and quality. The restaurant has a very good list of wines, and all prices are totally reasonable for this quality level. We went for a very good Rioja. Overall we rated this place very highly. 10/10!

The drive down to the restaurant/hotel is long and remote (unless you're arriving by train), but beautiful and easily worth the time. This was definitely one of (if not the biggest) highlight(s) of our holiday in Scotland. The lovely building is located in some beautiful scenery and surrounded by the local deer. We were greeted at the door upon our arrival by Scott (one of the hosts) and Sue, one of the younger deer. The food was exceptional, nearly every dish an astounding hit. Great and unique combinations of flavours, and we were told by some of the other guests that the menu changes every day and had been as great the day before as it was today. After our diner we stayed for some coffee in the lounge area and Scott helped us feed the deer, which was a magical experience. In short; if you're anywhere close to restaurant, you have got to make the small detour. You won't regret it!

We have just returned from 3 days/2 nights at this very comfortable restaurant & rooms in a very quiet and beautiful location. We had our dog Unice with us and she was made most welcome by Steph & Scott. Our meals were delicious and presentation was first class. The staff were very friendly and courteous. Steph & Scott's attention to detail was excellent. Our bedroom, lounge area and dining rooms were all beautifully furnished and so comfortable. Plenty of wildlife: A herd of Red Deer visits daily and were very calm being used with photographers appearing near them. We spotted a Golden Eagle, many finches and pheasants from our bedroom window. Panoramic views were amazing. The nearby Rannoch Station is also worth a visit. Plenty of walks and swimming for Unice, so we were all well catered for. This is the type of place you don't find very often, so definitely worth a visit.

We booked an overnight stay with dinner as part of a weekend away for a birthday treat. We had stayed at Monachyle Mhor the night before and were a bit disappointed with the experience however the Moor of Rannoch more than made up for it and we were so glad we had added an extra night away. The atmosphere was relaxed and we felt very well looked after. The food was amazing (so much so we couldn't manage the cheese course but maybe next time). It was great seeing Sheila the red deer who regularly comes down to the hotel to munch on the fruit and vegetable scraps from the kitchen - she is completely unfazed by the guests which makes for great photos. We are hoping that Scott decides to name one of the two new arrivals to the herd Elsbeth (why not as it's a good Scottish name!) so let's hope at least one of the two young fawns is a female! We can't wait to come back again and are already plotting our route and perusing train timetables.

Superb cooking from Steph, with her husband working front of house. Lovely use of local ingredients skilfully worked into dishes that make you want to return again and again. The setting is delightful - deer roaming freely and stunning sunsets on the moor. Charcuterie is from a few stations further up the rail line, in this case a venison bresaola superbly brought together with horseradish and beetroot. Grouse was precisely cooked and deserts excellent. Breakfast is notable. This is as good as pretty much any similar restaurant in Scotland and rivals some more acclaimed ones. Surely a Michelin star is not far off.

This place is way off the beaten track - we used the brilliant local pre-arranged taxi service so we could both drink with our meal. The couple who own the hotel run it in such a logical way given its isolation. Open for eight months of the year it caters for up to ten residents and perhaps another ten evening guests - certainly no room for more and perhaps more importantly no way of offering the same experience to a larger number. The experience is what it's all about. The menu is a mid-priced set menu with three or four choices for each of three courses plus a complimentary pre-starter and pre-dessert as well as a cheeseboard in relaxed (and rather chic) surroundings after the meal. You could enjoy a thoroughly delightful, extremely well cooked, modern British meal using local ingredients with knowledgeable, friendly and helpful service throughout, over the course of two or three hours in great comfort for £50 a head or could happily double that if you want to enjoy the excellent wine list and amazing choice of single malts afterwards. In addition to the above this is the first dining experience I have enjoyed in the company of wild red deer outside the restaurant window and it is probably the most ruggedly impressive landscape through which I have been driven to reach the restaurant. It depends upon tourists like us (although it's widely valued by locals as well) but you are made to feel like welcome visitors even though you're maybe unlikely to return. As I said, it's an experience - one to be savoured, valued and to be long remembered.

This restaurant has a very relaxing vibe. We were seated in a lounge area to look over the menu. Full of interesting flavours and unique pairings (unfortunately I don’t have a photo). We were then taken to the little dining room where we could see out across the moor, lovely scenery. Food came very fast, really good service and it all tasted amazing. The pudding in particular (Panna cotta, berries, honeycomb and apple ice cream) was amazing, loved it. The cheese selection at the end was also very good. Will be coming back :)!

If you are in Perth you need to make the effort to get to this restaurant. It is in a very stunning, remote location. Excellent service, superb food. They have 2 AA rosettes and are in the Michelin guide. We were seated initially in the lounge/bar area where they have a superb selection of Scottish gins (delicious!) and other spirits and we were able to peruse the menu and decent wine list in real comfort by the fire. The food is £42 per person for three courses and you are also brought one or two tasters along the way.Seriously good food, locally sourced. The menu included info as to where all the key ingredients came from which was a really nice touch. We particularly liked the pork belly and beef sirloin main courses. As expected from this part of the world, the highlights were the game and fish dishes along with a really friendly and professional service.During our starters there were some pheasants courting on the moor as the train left the tiny station. As we enjoyed our main courses the local herd of deer (Hercules at the head) wandered by our window by the table - you can't ask for a more Scottish idyllic setting. The host explained how they shelter by the hotel all year round and told us all about the group and how they live on the Moor. The hotel boasts no wifi or television - a real retreat. We come to Kinloch Rannoch every year and we're so glad to have found this outstanding restaurant. A fantastic experience, you feel like you are at the end of the world. We finished off the meal with a coffee and a port. Thanks guys - see you next year!

The food is some of the best I've ever had and so were the drinks. Scott told us all about the local gins and Scottish whiskeys and we had so much more than a dining experience; we gained knowledge of the region and the traditions and throughout the evening we felt incredibly relaxed and very much like home. Cannot say enough positive things to describe how owners Scott and Steph create a truly memorable evening. Scott is a master host, full of stories, warmth and guidance. Clearly he loves the region and has a taste for the varied whiskies and gins he collects and shares. He is the “front of the house” while Steph is busy in the “back of the house” conjuring culinary delights cleft from the jarring local landscape. That night, we feasted on venison, duck and lamb paired with a most surprising and delicious Romanian wine. The evening was capped off in the living room with a dazzling choice of whisky and delightful chatter with other guests. I plan to bring my whole family back and take over. It was just that good.

This was a small hotel with five rooms which also had a restaurant. The wife is a chef while the husband greets and serves the customers. The menu changes daily, and they will alter the menu based on dietary requirements or whether or not you have children as long as you let them know ahead of time when you make your reservations. The experience from start to finish was very relaxed despite it being a very high-end restaurant as far as food quality is concerned. We were hanging out in a lounge while they took our drink orders as well as our food orders. We then went into the dining area as it grew time for the food to come out which I ordered two courses. This made fine dining very very easy for us especially since we had a two-year-old and a four-year-old with us.Everything from start to finish was really good - for starters I had scallops with venison sausage (my two-year-old actually ate all of my venison sausage). For my main I had a lamb chop and a lamb shoulder which was very tender, very good, and very well flavored.

We had planned to be up in the area for a few days and, due to the school holidays, had an extra night to fill. After pondering various options we recalled this place which had been recommended to us by a good friend. It's a bit of a trek, eventually down a dead-end road but that just adds to the experience. What a good choice it turned out to be, the rooms were very comfortable (with three in our party we needed two rooms) and the food was amazing. The lounge areas were lovely with a good range of beers, wines & whiskys available.Breakfast was impressive too and from the restaurant area it was possible to watch the local wildlife as well as the Caledonian Sleeper passing through. It's difficult to imagine how only two people can run all this so efficiently but by the look of it they've had plenty of practice. This was our second visit to the Moor of Rannnoch Hotel for an evening meal. This hotel is very small and remote situated some 18 miles from Kinloch Rannoch but the journey itself is worthwhile if you like Scottish scenery and wildlife. On arrival we were welcomed by Scott who took our coats and guided us to a warm sitting room with a log stove. A pre-dinner drink was selected from a bar boasting at least 93 malt whiskies and a range of gins all distilled in Scotland. (Other beers, spirits and wines are also available.) The menu for the day was the provided and discussed with Scott providing expert guidance and explanation. The food is prepared and cooked by Steph and to say it is great is an understatement, you just have to go and taste it for yourself. The small restruant looks out over wild countryside and of course wild life such as deer grouse and pheasants. After dinner a Scottish cheese board is served to accompany after diner drinks and Steph usually joins the throng to answer any questions from the guests. My title is NOT a criticism! For those seeking solitude, great food and hospitality, and a warm welcome, then this must be the place. On the other hand, if you are looking for 5 star glitzy luxury with dozens of subservient staff then the Moor of Rannoch Hotel is probably not for you.We travelled by train specifically to enjoy the hospitality and excellent dinner menus at this hotel, and were not disappointed. Scott's welcome is warm and friendly and immediately you are taken into the warmth of the place. The bedrooms are quite small but well appointed; the lounge areas are cosy and inviting. So how was dinner? We dined on the two evening we were here and there was a different menu each evening. Both meals were superb, and excellent value for money. Steph in the kitchen tries to use local produce whenever possible and this shows in the flavours on the plate aligned to very good presentation. All this for 10 to 15 covers is done on an elderly Aga by Steph working on her own. In pursuance of more local supplies, a polytunnel is due for imminent arrival to produce herbs and salad greens fresh to the minute. To savour the Moor of Rannoch Hotel you need to know what you like. We visited the hotel at the end of a beautiful day of walking. The bar is as welcoming as the front room of a friend, and the easy atmosphere makes it easy to chat with other guests. The drinks list is worthy of a swanky London bar and the food is fabulous. That in itself would have made for a great end to the day but as we were leaving, the owner/chef shone his flashlight across the back of the hotel to show us the deer that venture down at night (for the heat from the outside boiler apparently) and he pointed out a milky green vision - the Northern Lights. He suggested we drop our car lights as we drove away from the restaurant to see them better and we stood outside our cars in awe at the unexpected spectacular display. A beautiful evening.

We have not stayed there but we always have dinner there when we stay in Kinloch Rannoch. Dinner is warm & friendly with deer usually grazing right outside. The new owners have put their own stamp on the hotel and restaurant which is nice. We will be there again in April 2016.

Amazing food, more bistro/fine dining than pub grub but with heart portion sizes to boot, tried a few dishes here and all were top drawer. Service and local knowledge from the excellent owner hosts, Scott and Steph, really make you feel like you have come home. Beautifully decorated with an excellent whisky, wine and gin selection in an intimate setting. A true wilderness experience with the local red deer herd frequently wandering past the window and freedom from modern technology. A truly unforgettable experience. Get it booked. Cheers for looking after us so well!

Having been to the Moor before and been disappointed, it is only fair to report a far better experience.Service and food were first class. From the warm welcome at the door to the fond farewell and everything in between.Starter of Crab and Celeriac could have been better as the celeriac tended to overpower the taste of the crab but it was delicious nevertheless. Venison with beetroot in a rich sauce and sprinkled with horseradish worked very well. Not a combination that immediately springs to my mind but the meat was tender and the whole dish very tasty. Panacotta with fresh fruits was superb and a great finish to a great meal. Sticky Toffee Pudding was very sweet but I count that as my fault for choosing it.There is a large selection of malt whiskies to choose from behind the bar so it was a pity I had to drive after dinner rather than relax in the friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Perhaps an overnight stay will be a better option next time. This hotel dining experience suits us because we will eat most things but with only 3 choices at each course it may not suit the more fussy diners. I am sure Steph would do what she could to satisfy those who couldn't find something to their taste on the menu. Personally, I prefer a small menu of food which is all freshly prepared to an extensive menu of food taken from freezer to microwave and in this respect the menu at the Moor suits perfectly.I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for diners.

We visited The Moor of Rannoch Hotel Restaurant for dinner as a thank you to my brother and sister-in-law who had been hosting my wife and me and two friends from Canada at their lovely home nearby on Loch Rannoch. So six of us sat down for cocktails before dinner in comfortable chairs in the bar. Our host, Scott, couldn't have been more thoughtful and attentive, helping us in our selection of drinks and introducing us to new "designer-small batch" gins and whiskeys. After an enjoyable cocktail adventure we were seated in the charming dining room and watched with delight throughout the next couple of hours as several highland deer with their stag in attendance grazed and played out side on the moor. The meals were really excellent in every way. Congratulations chef Steph! Delicious fresh local ingredients imaginatively prepared and plated. Our three course dinners cost 30 pounds and with all our cocktails and wine with our meal the bill was under 240 pounds. Not inexpensive but for a 5-star meal in that ambiance and with that level of service I think it was very good value for money. I would not hesitate to recommend this experience and look forward to a repeat visit when next in the vicinity.

This is second time we have come to the Moor for dinner. Wow! It does not disappoint. Staying along the loch, we made the drive up to the station ( 8 miles) for a special treat. It was wonderful. The location is so much more remote; it is like stepping into another world. Stunning mountainous scenery from every window looking over the Moor. The Royal Scotsman train went passed as we were dining- magical. The welcome you receive from Scott and Steph is so relaxed but incredibly attentive. Food is exceptionally tasty and impressively plated up- this is a an absolute gem that straddles boutique hotel/wilderness country house hotel beautifully.

We walked across Rannoch Moor the day we were eating here for dinner, we started at 7am and got to the Kingshouse Hotel by 1.30pm. We then got a taxi to Fort William, and then got the train back down to Rannoch station (where we had left the car), which arrived in at 6.36pm, just in time for dinner. We were greeted at the door which was nice, and as we sat eating dinner there was a group of deer and a stag grazing outside. The atmosphere was great and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly and very chatty, which we liked. The food was amazing, we had a combination of soup, smoked salmon starters mains were sea trout with the most amazing tasting pea puree and potatoes and asparagus, then there was a pork and haggis main with fennel, and an ox cheek main, pudding was a whisky and marmalade pudding with ice cream and an amazing whisky marmalade sauce with burnt oranges. It was £30 for 3 courses, which given the remote location is very reasonable value for money. We were not staying in the hotel, we just booked for dinner, unfortunatley the hotel is only open to guests in the daytime, but is open to non-residents in the evening. There is not really anywhere ese to hang out if you need to wait around in the day, so the way we planned it seemed to be sensible. It would be nice and maybe good for business to open in the daytime for drinks to non-residents who want to relax after walking and play cards and have a drink, but perhaps there is not a lot of space for this. Would definitely go back for the tasty food though.

If Scott and Steph have the room to take us, this is THE place where we love to have our first dinner of the Scottish holidays we enjoy here twice a year, now that we are retired. The journey from Kinloch Rannoch, where we stay , is beautiful, the choice of food excellent cooked by the very talented owner/chef Steph and the service, provided by Scott, the other owner, is superb. They have time for everyone and despite being very busy they achieve a restful ambience.

We dined here one evening before catching the Caledonian sleeper train home. It was one of the highlights of our holiday and the best meal I've had out in years. I only wish we had been staying overnight too and we will definitely return. Our host was extremely helpful and very informative when asked about drinks, even offering us tea when we arrived around midday although the hotel is generally shut during the day. The view from the large dining room windows is utterly tranquil, and that from the comfy lounge is made all the more magical by the apparently regular evening spectacle of a herd of deer passing through. The isolated location is an experience to be savoured, and since the hotel is small there are no crowds of people - the other guests seemed quiet.I enjoyed a delicious smoked mackerel salad with tangy shreds of apple that perfectly complimented the rich oily smokiness of the fish, followed by succulent duck leg served with a beautifully velvety celeriac purée and lentils. My husband enjoyed the leek soup followed by a plump black pudding-stuffed pork fillet. Both meals were nicely presented but they excelled for their flavoursome combination of ingredients. Somehow we found room after this for creme brûlée with strawberries and shortbread, and ginger and marmalade/bitter orange pudding, both of which were very good indeed, with the pudding served hot at just the right temperature. I'll be trying to recreate that one at home! At £30 for three courses we found this very good value for such a high standard of cooking. The only thing I might have changed is the ice cream with the pudding, which I felt wasn't really needed.Having made our dinner reservation well beforehand, the hotel were kind enough to look after our luggage during the day while we set off for a glorious trek up onto the moor for several hours. The timing of our meal was perfectly orchestrated so we began at 6:30pm and were done by 8pm and on the platform ready for the train in good time. They even wrapped us some petit fours to enjoy on the train when we declined coffee. This was a really special experience and I'd urge anyone undecided to go for it - you won't be disappointed! Just make sure you book well in advance.

This restaurant you can not drive by as its at the end of a very long road. But it is without doubt well worth a special journey to eat or stay here. A very cosy bar area followed by a first class meal . The food is local and fresh with excellent taste. We watched deer over the road as we ate our meal. We ate again here two days later as a find like this is not to be missed. I would advise booking well in advance as it is very popular.

Verder is eigenlijk alles helemaal geweldig.

A very dog friendly restaurant, in a super setting after a glorious drive past Loch Rannoch.Steph welcomed on us arrival and showed us in, and then Scott took over with great hospitality. They warmly welcomed us and our dog and we settled down on the cosy sofas by the fire to take in a first glass of wine and order our meal. The choice of wines and the stocked bar did not go amiss!Steph's food is amazing. As a vegetarian, I was not left out, but served a well thought out, delicious goats cheese stuffed lentil balls. With fennel and leek soup to start! You sit in the conservatory with a great view over the moors. The restaurant was full (5 tables) but Scott managed easily, regularly checking we were ok and then serving up a wonderful ginger and apricot sticky pudding. My husband and scored it all 10 out of 10!We retreated to the bar for our tea which came with homemade petit fours. Then Scott offered a wonderful cheeseboard with chutney and oat crackers which turned out to be gratis. A wonderful surprise.Overall, we loved every minute of this visit and only wished we were staying the night. We had a lovely time talking to the residents and non residents alike - a very friendly, warming and hospitable ambience. We will definitely be back, and hopefully to sample an overnight stay too!

We booked a table prior to going to Fort William for the day with the family, stating that the children would eat off the main menu (although they can accommodate for little ones taste buds). The restaurant opens as the train arrives in Rannoch Station, you cannot ask for more. After a long day trip my eldest (5 year old) fought off the sleep to ensure he could eat his desert and the youngest (3 year old) nearly fell asleep into his desert! This is after sharing a main course and starter! The meal was an experience and challenge to the taste buds in a very pleasurable way. I cannot believe all the food is cooked on an agar - amazing. If in Rannoch it is a must try, especially when a 5 year old says it was epic!

The Moor of Rannoch is the perfect place if you want amazing food in the setting of a Scottish moor with a view of distant mountains. The owners have been in residence for less than two years and have transformed the place into a friendly, cosy environment where you feel immediately at home. The standard of cuisine is excellent, with only fresh local produce used by a chef who REALLY knows her onions! I have never tasted better. We had the extra pleasure of seeing local wild red deer strolling past the window during the evening. The hotel/restaurant is about 18 miles drive from Kinloch Rannoch and it may be the most beautiful drive you ever take. Look out for the wandering red deer, particularly as you drive the road across the moor from the hotel to the western end of Loch Rannoch after dark. We saw dozens. Always book ahead - the dining room is small and can be taken up mainly by residents, so don't risk being disappointed.

Dinner at this hotel was a lovely, romantic episode, coupled with really delicious food. We caught the train from Fort William, travelling across the moor. We arrived at Rannoch Station and strolled the short distance to the hotel in time for a welcome and a drink in the comfortable lounge while we studied the menu. The dining room is small and intimate, with spacious views from large widows. There were two parties dining that night, and we were each summoned to the table when it was time.I am a coeliac and it is always a relief when an eatery will provide me with gluten-free food, but it is a great pleasure when the owner really understands my problem and serves up food of such a high standard and so very tasty. I chose the salmon, having been totally won over to it during my visit to the Highlands; it was superb. We couldn’t resist a dessert that offered raspberries. We finished dinner in good time to stroll down to the little station for the train back to Fort William. As we left, our fellow guests, who had walked in and were staying the night before the next leg of their very long walk, were busily working on one of the many jig-saws available for guests. The hotel is, I’m told, closed in winter; not surprising as it is very isolated once the snows arrive.

The Moor of Rannoch hotel is at the end of a 5 mile road to nowhere (unless you come by train) but you absolutely MUST make a reservation and drive out for an amazing experience. The food was fabulous and the setting gorgeous. The dining room is in a conservatory type structure with views out over the moor. As the sun set, the ever changing colours on the landscape were beautiful. If we had been there the night before, we would have seen a stag who stopped by just outside of the window. After dinner we sat in the lounge taking coffee and brought the dog in from the car. Our dog, who never takes treats from strangers even with our permission, gobbled up the venison sausage, kindly given to her by Steph. Steph and her partner Scot, were excellent hosts and I wish them all the best for the future.

After reading great reviews, the idea of stopping here for dinner via a train ride from Fort William sounded lovely. The hospitality was perfect, the view was lovely, and the menu looked enticing, but honestly, the cooking was uninspired. While the vegetarian mushroom dish was o.k., it just wasn't interesting. And my partner said his skate wing could really have used some seasoning - especially since it was such a challenge to eat it! Strawberry Shortcake was simply a few local, but not ripe, strawberries on excessively sweet shortbread biscuits, with a bit of overly sweet chantilly, No real flavor - just a lot of sweet.I am well aware that simple can be delicious, but in this case, it was just boring, especially for the price.

It is such a shame that tea or coffee is not available at the hotel to non residents. We have tried on 3 separate occasions to stop in for a coffee and possibly a sandwich, after driving up from Pitlochry. We were there on 25 May, as were some other weary travellers, looking for a light refreshment but unfortunately they couldn't even provide a cup of tea/or coffee. I have been up to The Moor of Rannoch for dinner 4 times since Scott & Steph took over. The main reason for writing this review, is I have recently become vegan for health reasons. Instead of seeing it as an inconvenience - Steph saw it as a challenge & the 2 times I have been there since my diet change - I have been presented with a menu of the most amazing food, I cannot speak highly enough of Scott & Steph & would encourage anyone in the area with any kind of dietary requirement to pay them a visit when they reopen in February.Even without any dietary requirements I cannot think of being for dinner anywhere that I was made to feel so relaxed, with the most amazing food. We recently stayed in Kinloch Rannoch and were recommended to eat at the Moor of Rannoch Hotel. It has recently been bought by a charming young couple who have the talent and work ethic to succeed. The lady of the house does all the cooking and Mr waits on table and mans the bar. I have to say that the food was some of the best I have ever tasted. The balance of flavours was perfect and the ingredients selected with great imagination for their freshness and mouth-watering flavours. The menu is short, changes daily and consists only of what can be cooked fresh on the day. Admirable. The lounge and dining room are SO cosy and the service impeccable. We didn't stay over at the hotel, but looking at the standards they maintain, I would suggest that their tariff looks like a real bargain. The hotel is 100 yards from the Rannoch railway station (don't worry - they are the only two proper buildings for several miles around and the "station" has one platform). A train ride to Rannoch and a few nights at this hotel would be paradise. We will return!

Beautifully presented hotel and restaurant. This was our first visit to Cairn Lodge for a family dinner. We were unfortunately disappointed by the standard of food, particularly the ribeye steaks. Fillet steaks looked amazing, however the ribeyes appeared to be sourced from a different supplier, lacking flavour and being overcooked. It would have been appreciated if someone had inquired about our main course, as we would have shared our thoughts. I sensed that the staff may have been hesitant to engage with us after serving the steaks, likely due to their awareness of the quality issues.

Stayed a couple of nights before heading north west. Pitlochry is a lovely spot and Knockendarroch was the perfect place for us. Great views, bedrooms and service but the star of the show is the food. The menu has 4 options for each course and completely changes every night. Three courses balanced just right and with canapés in the lounge before dinner, the whole experience is just wonderful. Particularly liked the seafood laksa and the guinea foul / chorizo dishes.
