Stayed a couple of nights before heading north west. Pitlochry is a lovely spot and Knockendarroch was the perfect place for us. Great views, bedrooms and service but the star of the show is the food. The menu has 4 options for each course and completely changes every night. Three courses balanced just right and with canapés in the lounge before dinner, the whole experience is just wonderful. Particularly liked the seafood laksa and the guinea foul / chorizo dishes.

We’ve stayed at Knockendarroch a number of times now and always eat in the restaurant, we really enjoy the experience. The staff are really friendly and helpful, and the food is consistently amazing. Canapés and drinks are served in the lounge before your meal (with a beautiful view of the hills), you're never rushed. We've been to stay in the autumn too when the open fire has been roaring away - very relaxing. Keep it up Knockendarroch. We’ll be back once again before too long!

Very comfortable stay here - staff very pleasant and helpful. Dinner is of an excellent standard - good set menu with plenty of choice, while an enviable wine and whisky selection. Particularly enjoyed the smoked haddock risotto and the beef. Breakfast also very good. Room was very good too, everything you’d expect really. Decent enough location, just a short 5-10 min walk to main street. Will visit again.

A wee bit of soft classical music or similar, in the common areas would add to the ambience. Tried not to listen to other's conversations. Felt just a bit self conscious. Could be doing with a continental lager beer.

Firstly , the food was epic. Each plate a work of art and clearly the product of huge talent in the kitchen. The service was efficient and very good. Very good value too. However the general atmosphere and ambience was too staid and stiff for me. The food being fantastic is only part of the overall experience. A little unobtrusive background music would have made conversation and the general mood warmer -anything to soften the general atmosphere and make the acoustics and general feeling less inhibiting. Most of the diners seemed to be residents and we were welcomed with “ ahhh..you’re the non-residents “ . Also , on the night we went there , there were an awful lot of couples sitting in silence , dutifully consuming each course. Obviously this is no fault of the restaurant but along my above comments it all adds up

The food here was amazing and I would highly recommend it and the choice of gins. The review is only 4 stars as we were made to feel a bit like second class citizens as we weren’t residents. Despite booking for the pre theatre meal we were told that we could not avail of the bus to the theatre but had to walk.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and dined in the restaurant on the 1st night. On the 2nd night we decided to venture outside the hotel for dinner but wish we hadn't bothered as it was nothing compared to our experience in the Knockendarroch restaurant the previous night.I cam honestly say that it was the best meal we've had in a very long time. Canopes, 3 courses and tea/coffee with tablet was all included for £25 pp (resident price). It was a real treat especially if you like fine dining and we look forward to visiting again in the future. The staff are also all so lovely and very accomodating.

Absolutely superb. We’re staying at the atholpalace which charges £45 for a rubbish 3 course meal which is basically rubbish compared to a£49 for 3 courses PLUS canapés for a superb meal. Absolutely no comparison. Knockendarroch was a superb meal. My wife and I both had the smoked haddock risotto, stuffed quail and frangipan. I would happily have paid twice this price for the meal. Really friendly staff, nice wines, great whisky selection and fabulous views to cap it all. Oh and my wife also commented on how comfortable the chairs were

The hotel is beautiful and its very cosy and homely whilst being upmarket. The food was incredible flavours and using Scottish ingredients, it was perfect size portions. The only downfall was that it was felt the hotel were targeting the older generation so we when we arrived a bit younger, they almost didn't know what to do. They could jazz up the drinks menu and get some more money in with some up to date drinks such as beers on tap or cocktails. Overall it was lovely but could add some modern twists.

We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights to end a tour of the Highlands earlier this month and were initially worried that the restaurant food on the DB&B booking we had could have ended up being a little 'samey'. We need not have worried, the food, ingredients and quality of cooking was exceptionally good. The service too was excellent and reminiscent of old style, quality dining in beautiful surroundings. We were never kept waiting and everything was served on time, exactly as ordered. It certainly exceeded our expectations.

Not resident at the hotel but booked for dinner (essential). It is a fixed price menu @ £49pp for 3 courses - good value as food is cooked and presented to a high standard. Canapes are served in the lounge whilst you review the menu and orders taken prior to going to the dinning room. There is a choice of 4 items for each course. There is a small but good wine list with prices to suit most pockets. Staff and service were excellent. Would recommend.

We booked this restaurant to have the set menu, £49 per head for our anniversary (which was written in chocolate on our pudding plates, a lovely touch) recently. This hotel has been beautifully renovated and the lounge with it’s roaring fire, very welcoming. We arrived 15 minutes early for 2000hrs but weren’t seated to eat until 2030 and hadn’t been advised we might not be seated promptly. We did know that we had to be out of the restaurant and finished our drinks/tea/coffee by 2200hrs however due to the restrictions presented by Covid, we would not be allowed to drink in the lounge, but could sit. It was disappointing to see the manager/owner (?) dressed casually in jeans and jumper and the waiting staff also dressed casually. While the food was lovely, we really considered it to be expensive and the starter of laksa and dessert of ice cream were certainly on the small side. Reading a review from 2016, we have the same complaint as then, that diners should not be charged for tea and coffee on top of what is already an expensive set menu.

Faultless - amazing value for £45 given the quality of the food.I love somewhere too that has the right ambience for a special meal out and this has it in spades - country house comfort, quality art work, good books.Cosy and lovely decor.Canapes were first class, pigeon as a starter - I'm so so about pigeon -was gorgeous, we both remarked on it.Both had venison - excellent.Pecan pie was genuinely home made, buttery shortcrust base (I bake a lot and can usually tell something commercially bought in - happens too often).Served with one of their unusual home made ice creams - nutmeg flavour.Superb.The rhubarb consomme was a little successful , not having much rhubarb taste but refreshing overall.A little quibble too about the tablet with tea - have tasted better:( But a very small thing overall. We'll be back!

Gleaming white table linen welcomes the diner in a spacious traditional room. A selection of delicious home baked bead was offered by the delightful servers, with the starter arriving soon after. And very good it was too; a kind of fish medley with oriental overtones. The menu, while not extensive, was sufficient. I opted for the hake, not normally my first choice of fish, but which turned out to be excellent both in terms of freshness and of cooking. The presentation, portion size and trimmings were all spot on.While all the desserts sounded mouth watering, I opted for the selection of Scottish cheeses. It got me thinking why the need to import continental cheese when we can produce our own to this high standard. As a resident, I paid what I considered a very modest price for dinner. In summary, the restaurant, like the rest of the hotel is run in a most friendly and efficient manner. I would return to eat there and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Having heard good reports from other locals we certainly were very impressed by dinner. Staff were courteous and friendly. Lovely drawing room to have a drink whilst looking at the menu with canapés which were flavoursome and nicely presented. Menu has four choices for each course and was very well balanced. Scallops to start were delicious with nice accompaniments. We had three different main courses and each one was very impressive. Unlike many restaurants where the sauces and vegetables are all the same, here each course was creatively presented each with different vegetables and potatoes. I had a dessert of Dark chocolate and Edradour malt whisky fondant - out of this world. Slight niggle was the creme brûlée being a little un-set otherwise the selection of Scottish cheese was good. The whole evening was very relaxing. As residents of Pitlochry we highly recommend Knockendarroch especially if you are looking for something special.

We moved to Pitlochry two years ago and the word was/is that Knockendarroch is one of the two places to eat if you want something special. So we visited for a milestone birthday and certainly understood why people feel the way they do about it. It's one of those big old country houses that is full of charm and character. We were ushered into the lounge for a pre-dinner drink, canapes and perusal of the menu. The set meal is £42 and each section had about four choices. A good sign for me was that I could happily have eaten anything and found the final choice hard. In the event I had scallops, venison and a local berry sweet with lemon curd, gingerbread and blackcurrant sorbet. We have coffee and tablet in the lounge afterwards to complete a relaxing bookend to a special and memorable visit. We felt very sated but not over-full. The staff, as you'd expect, were courteous, professional and polite.

The smoked haddock tartlet amuse was a great opener and the crab cake starter and ham hock terrine kept things going nicely. Guinea fowl with a chorizo glaze, dauphinoise potatoes, broad beans and asparagus was thoughtfully presented and perfectly cooked. Dessert was another high point - rhubarb consomme, tonka bean bavarois, raspberries, strawberries and a ginger beer sorbet. This was wonderfully light and refreshing, a perfect end to a superb meal. Having had a glowing recommendation we were looking forward to a first class dinner. Unfortunately ,apart from the sweet Hungarian waitress, the rest was distinctly average. If you aspire to fine dining you need to deliver , not serve bland unseasoned dishes. Having seen the many favourable reviews we must have visited when the chef was off. For a while we were the only diners in the room although it did begin to fill up later. There is a rather curious table for two in one corner that has an aspect into a former cupboard recess. A grown up equivalent of the naughty step perhaps. The lighting is a bit harsh. A bit of a shame all round.

We had dinner both nights during our stay. The food exceeded our expectations and is closer to 3 AA rosettes than two, in our opinion. The menu was completely different each night and we were impressed by the originality of some of the dishes, e.g. the assiette of seafood on beetroot risotto was delicious. We had dined in a Michelin star restaurant the night before we arrived and it's no exaggeration to say that, aside from the high level of presentation and attention to detail that you expect with a Michelin star, the food here was just as impressive.

Food is excellent. Fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. The scallops melted in the mouth. Breakfast is also great cooked to order. No buffet type breakfasts here.I hate bacon and egg etc kept warm under lights found in many hotels these days.

We've been to Pitlochry a number of times and have never come across the Knockendarroch. On our recent visit I intended to book somewhere that offered fine dining for my Birthday, after a quick search online this place looked perfect. Our guesthouse reserved us a table as I totally forgot and to be honest was a little put off with a set menu, but after speaking to our guesthouse owner (Andrea at Craigatin House) we soon changed our mind - no problems booking in.Arrived after a 5 mins walk from the main road in Pitlochry, the Knockendarroch was easy to find and looks quite impressive from the outside being one of the finest houses built in the area in the late 1800's. The interior inside is just as nice, very traditional with open fires in the lounge and a very intimate setting for dinner. The staff were all very polite, attentive and nothing was a problem. You can relax on arrival in the lounge with a drink, and canapés are served alongside whilst choosing your selection from the set three course menu, although a little limited, it was absolutely first class and cooked to perfection as would be expected.Your taken through to the dining room and seated in a very plush, intimate environment and really looked after by the staff. My wife struggled to find a dessert from the menu she would like and it was no problem to have something else.We finished off the meal with a coffee in the lounge, and topped off a perfect evening. It was a little more pricey than we usually opt for, however it was a special occasion and the food was perfect. The chef even left a birthday message on my dessert plate as our guesthouse had notified them prior to our arrival - which was a nice touch.Would seriously recommend if your looking for something a little bit more than the run of the mill restaurants along the main drag of pitlochry,

We stayed at Knockendarroch for 2 nights in late September. The 12-room property was wonderful. Warm hosts, beautiful rooms, and absolutely amazing food. Breakfast was from a menu and food beautifully presented. In the evening, we went to the parlor where we enjoyed drinks and canapés, made our dinner orders from the menu, and then were lead into the dining room. It was difficult to make choices, but we did. Our meals were wonderful, the service & presentation impeccable.

We has dinner 'in house' whist staying at the Hotel. The food was excellent, well prepared and cooked beautifully. The service could not have been better. The table settings were also first class. At 25 Pounds a head on top of our room charge, plus wine (a reasonably good selection available) the meal represented excellent value for money.

From the appetiser in the lounge to coffee and tablet back in the lounge our evening meal was just perfect. The tastiest meal we have had this year. I had the fish and my partner had lamb, both cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and efficient. We really enjoyed the whole thing. Breakfast was just as delicious. If you want a special meal in Pitlochry, this is the place to go.

Breakfast was great. The dining room is not especially large, but very beautiful. It's like eating in a castle. Ate the eggs Benedict. Homemade hollandais sauce, you could tell. Husband had scrambled eggs he said they were the best he'd had in Scotland. I wish I had enjoyed the coffee more though.

Dinner as good (if not better) than most excellent restaurants in Edinburgh! Setting, taste and service was 1st class. Highly recommended, even if you are staying somewhere else in Pitlochry!

This restaurant surpassed our expectations. The quality of the food and the presentation was outstanding. Our group tried everything on the pre set menu and all raved about it. The servers had a great attitude and made our meal more enjoyable. Probably the best we had during our visit to Scotland

We stayed at Knockendarroch April 2016, had an amazing stay and ate at the restaurant on two occasions. Both nights we had truly memorable evenings. Sitting in the lounge before the meal with a great scottish beer (Ossian) taking in the views with snow falling on the hills, open fires warming us and enjoying delicious canapés was the perfect to start to the evening. The dining room was a very comfortable room again with a relaxing atmosphere and plenty of space. The menu offered something former everybody and the waiting staff were intent on ensuring you enjoy the evening, smiling and courteous throughout. The food was fantastic, really couldn't fault it and we finished with coffee and tablet back in the lounge. At Knockendarroch they obviously care about what they are doing both in the Restaurant and the Hotel and you'd have to go along way to beat it! 10/10 for the whole experience, we will be back, thank you!

What can I say about this wonderful little gem. The food is excellent, and Fernanda is so friendly and welcoming. It's like going home except your mum is cooking a 5 star luxurious meal. Will be coming back again. Very good produce, no need for sides, and the seasoning was so good that on every table, the salt and pepper remained un touched. Brilliant.

Beautifully presented hotel and restaurant. This was our first visit to Cairn Lodge for a family dinner. We were unfortunately disappointed by the standard of food, particularly the ribeye steaks. Fillet steaks looked amazing, however the ribeyes appeared to be sourced from a different supplier, lacking flavour and being overcooked. It would have been appreciated if someone had inquired about our main course, as we would have shared our thoughts. I sensed that the staff may have been hesitant to engage with us after serving the steaks, likely due to their awareness of the quality issues.

A great evening. Beautifully prepared and served meal. The colours and positioning of the vegetable selection, the carefully cooked food, the wide choice of menu, the attentive service, the cosy ambience. What a lovely evening. I would recommend highly to anyone interested in giving it a try.
