I found the food very bland and very unimaginative. I also found the food to be on the colder side and was lukewarm at best. I am astounded that a restaurant such as this would stumble at the basics. Do the chefs even try the food before it is sent out? It seems to be a common theme in other reviews. I have had better experiences at one-star Michelin restaurants.

Uninteresting food. Kind of bland and unimaginative and maybe borderline odd - Vanilla sauce for fish? Service was also quite slow. Not up to the caliber of the restaurant it supposed to be. Overall I wish we went elsewhere, paid 1/2 and got better food.

We had booked dinner at Andrew Fairlie during our stay at Gleneagles. I had high expectations and we were not disappointed. The service was attentive and friendly, our dinner felt relaxed and not stuffy. We chose to do the degustation menu, and it was a great experience to try so many courses. The general manager Dale is a real credit to the restaurant and you can see he loves his job, it really shines through. The rest of the team were also great. The service really elevated our experience. I hope one day we are lucky enough to return

It's as good as you hear. That lobster. Oh, that lobster! And the decorations. One of the truly great sommeliers. All staff were great. But a young lad particularly stood out. Alcohol intake made me forget his name but they'll know who he is. Charming, ambitious etc. He quite made our meal. Oh, and spend time looking around all of Gleneagle. A very special place.

Dinner at Restaurant Andrew Fairlie at the Gleneagles Hotel was a masterclass in culinary perfection! From start to finish the skill of the chef and kitchen staff, the sommelier, and the wait staff was on display and never let up. Ask me to pick a favorite course and I can’t since they were all so fresh, creative, flavorful and tasty. I would say that the Georgian wine paired with the roe deer was the best paring. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to introduce my son to the pleasures of Michelin Star dining. It’s easy to see why this restaurant is at the pinnacle of Scottish fine dining!! Last night’s dinner: 1. 5 exquisite canapés 2. Crab Claw with clams and Thai green curry 3. Scottish beef tartare 4. Filet of wild halibut 5. Asparagus 6. Home smoked Scottish lobster 7. Loin of Borders roe deer 8. Label for the Georgian red wine—Bedoba Saperavi 9. Grand Marnier Soufflé 10. The petit fours

Pleasant. But let me tell you when I pay this much for a meal I expect a great deal more than just pleasant. Great food makes you sit up and pay attention. We nearly fell asleep. We came here for a much anticipated belated birthday celebration. The venue is stunning and reviews are glowing, so we were prepared for something truly special, but left feeling truly underwhelmed. Granted, we were quite jet-lagged which ultimately led to us calling it quits before dessert - but staff of Andrew Fairlie, before you dismiss this poor review as no fault of your own, go browse my other reviews. I eat. It's what I do. If the food had been worth staying for, we would have. The meal started well, with the amuse bouche providing all sorts of interesting flavours and served at a decent pace while we got settled in and decided on what to order. We decided to order different things, so we'd get a wider choice of things to sample, as we like to share. Somehow this was a logistical nightmare for the serving staff, as the tasting menu has many more dishes than the a la carte and left me awkwardly eating several dishes alone while my wife had nothing. Not to mention as soon as it started getting busy it took so incredibly long between courses that we actually started to get bored. The mushroom ravioli was rather average, and really tipped us off that the rest of the meal was going to be a disappointment. It was topped with truffles but the flavour and fragrance was distinctly lacklustre. 5/10. The steak tartare was the highlight for me as it actually had good flavour, richness and I could taste the light charring on the outside of the tartare. 9/10 Special mention to the morel with white asparagus. The asparagus was gritty. Otherwise an OK dish. Morel was an interesting texture, and glad I tried it, but it really wasn't great. 6/10 The lobster was prepared in a style I haven't tried before, which was novel, but all I can really say is it was good, but not that good. 7/10 The lamb was so average that I can't actually remember eating it. 5/10 Don't let anyone gaslight you into thinking high cuisine is just too refined for your palette. I've eaten my share of delicate, genteel dishes. Tastebuds don't lie. This was just not the outstanding meal a 2 Michelin star rating should warrant.

We used to be great fans of Andrew Farlie but this was one of the laziest meals we have had in a long time. Serving a tiny little turnip as an amuse Bouche is extremely lazy. There was nothing about any of these dishes that we had in the tasting menu that we could not have produced at home. The crab portions were pathetic. We told staff before hand that one of us did not eat cheese and when a cheese course was produced nothing was provided for a none cheese eater so I was expected to eat my course alone. When we complained something was produced but by this point the feeling was lost and we decided to call it a night. The staff were kind but the food was boring and we felt very taken advantage of. When we spoke to the manager he did waive the cost of the meal but that wasn’t actually the point. This was for us a very special evening - our anniversary, which we wanted to be special. What we really felt was that we as customers were being taken advantage of. Left an overall jaded feeling. Gone are the days of imaginative food but not the days of imaginative billing. Not a good reflection on Gleneagles.

There are reasons Fairlie maintains its Michelin star rating. And it becomes obvious from the meeting of front of house staff, thru wait staff and sommelier that you'll be in for a good night. The elegant atmosphere supports what arrives from the kitchen. Exciting flavours, provided by quality locally sourced ingredients. All plated stylishly and presented in a timely manner so that experience doesn't tire as you progress thru course after course. Yes it's expensive - especially the tasting menu with matching wines. But it's a great experience if you can.

Dikke aanrader dus.

It has been a few years since we last ate in Andrew Fairlie, so we were not sure what to expect. For timing reasons, we had to go a la carte. The menu was so good that it was very difficult to decide what to have. It turned out to be the best meal we have eaten for years, and much better than several three Michelin star establishments. All the dishes were superb, but the standouts were wild mushroom and truffle ravioli, hand rolled macaroni, pork assiette and wild turbot. The crowdie soufflé was mind-blowing. Service was just perfect. Of course it is expensive, but worth every penny for an occasional treat.

The menu focuses on Scottish produce, particularly seafood. The tasting menu has crab, scallop and lobster dishes. The intensity of flavour in the scallops and lobster was amazing. Lamb was melt in your mouth. The wine was perfectly paired with each dish - each very high quality. Most were French fairly mainstream unlike those in some Michelin starred restaurants. The staff were outstanding and explained each dish and wine very clearly. The service was prompt but not inappropriately rushed. Our meal took 3 hours.

Scotland’s only 2* restaurant - a lot to live up to. Maybe too much?Well no - it’s fantastic. We’d eaten in 2 Edinburgh Michelin starred restaurants the weekend before our visit (both excellent) and Andrew Fairlie was next level (as it should be I guess)I’m no food critic. I visit these places to see how good food can be. To eat exceptional dishes we’d never create at home. Taste the best ingredients perfectly cooked and flavoured. Andrew Fairlie delivered. Book your visit to Gleneagles around getting into this restaurant. It’s fully booked months in advance. Having said that we stayed 6 nights and asked to be waitlisted. We got in twice. That this restaurant has to be the best in Scotland, the UK (and for us, in the world!) should be beyond question. Of course, as one would expect of a 2 Michelin star place, the food, wine, the service, the ambiance are very special. But don’t let that, nevertheless, be taken for granted. It’s all very special and such a treat. What really separates this wonderful dining experience are the people. Every member of the team strikes a wonderful balance of being massively professional, whilst at the same time being warm, friendly, very approachable and being intuitively able to put everyone at ease - it’s a comfortable, relaxing experience with zero ‘stuffiness’ which can be present in many similarly rated restaurants. The Best - whatever TripAdvisor may suggest!

The restaurant is in the Gleneagles hotel, but has a different reservation and staff (so the hotel can not really help). We were there with our family, and the tasting menu is very accessible (unless your kids only like pasta or chips). This was the best meal we have ever had in a restaurant and we have been to a lot. The most notable part of the night was the service. They have got the balance of professionalism and friendly/welcoming just right. None of your stuffiness that you get in other Michelin restaurants. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu with matching wines. We were easily able to swap out courses we didn’t like the look of and this was actively encouraged. I have a nut allergy and they went out of there way to ensure I was confident that none of the dishes contained nuts. Even reminding me when my partners dish had nuts in it so I couldn’t steal any of hers! Very different experience to the Balmoral that served me nuts twice! My partner was pregnant and they were able to adapt some of the dishes to ensure products were properly cooked through. The knowledge of the staff was second to none. I asked one of the waitresses about the sourcing of the vegetables and she was able to detail the location of the garden and even amusing anecdotes about the head gardener! Our meal lasted for 3hrs but at no point did we feel rushed or like we were waiting for food. A huge amount of attention to detail goes into managing this for over 50 covers all eating numerous courses. It’s clear why this restaurant maintained its 2 Michelin stars last year. They deserve it! Any downsides? Perfection doesn’t come cheap. You won’t get much change out of £500 quid for a couple going for the basics! Worth every penny though I would say.

The smoked lobster and final dessert (think it was a mille-feuille style thing with yuzu and some awesome sorbet) were highlights, but nothing was below an 8/10. The reputation is totally justified. The menu is wonderful, the service attentive and the décor exquisite. Even the crockery seems to have been tailor made for each of the dishes served. I would recommend the menu de degustation, as it allows for a full appreciation of the culinary skills of the team. Priced at £155 is not cheap but the skill and presentation justify the price. On the night we were there the menu included their piece de resistance which is the lobster with butter and parsley sauce. The dish is almost legendary and justifiably so! The only meat dish was lamb cooked in three different ways – every single way better than the other. The desert is perhaps the anti-climax and like most high quality chefs, there seems to be little attention paid to it. Perhaps this is because that by the time you reach the desert you are already satiated or by the seventh dish the chef has ran out of ideas...The wonderful menu is complemented by an excellent wine list and one of the very few places in Scotland where you will find a selection of Krug champagne. The prices of the wines is hyper inflated, but this is in keeping with what is on offer. The menu of degustation is accompanied by 3-4c amuse bouche, which are inventive and playful. The restaurant is justifiably considered as the best restaurant in Scotland.

Dined here recently whilst staying at the hotel and it was an excellent experience from 1st to last. Met by 2 lovely ladies at the restaurant entrance who made us feel welcome and from then on all the staff were great. Very friendly but not over bearing and not at all pompous as some fine dining establishments can be. If being super critical, sometimes took too long to remove finished plates, but a bit of a personal bugbear, so this may just be me...Food was superb. We ate from the A La Carte menu, including scallops, signature lobster, monkfish, lamb and soufflé. All were great, with good portion sizes, with the lamb being standout delicious. The usual Michelin amuse bouches, were also very good although I personally would be happy to dispense with these and pay less although still thought value for money was good.I was celebrating a birthday which the staff mentioned several times and also got a little birthday desert plate which were nice touches.Overall a great experience and would definitely return.

My sister and I dined here as a special treat. We’d booked it some time ago and so had been looking forward to it for months, and it did not disappoint! We opted for the tasting menu and matching wines. Food was all incredible and the wines were delicious - especially the glass of Krug to match the lobster (which was to die for by the way!). Staff were all so welcoming, friendly and professional. Special shout out to the hostess who was funny and extremely attentive. I honestly couldn’t fault anything from the whole experience. Now just have to start saving up the pennies so we can go again! Thank you Team Andrew Fairlie for a truly wonderful evening.

Our whole experience was truly exceptional, they so deserve their 2 Michelin stars. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we felt we were the most important people. The food was exceptional, I can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever had. We opted for the tasting menu and the matching wines, which I would definitely recommend doing. The wines really complimented each of the courses and the sommelier described each of the different wines and how it brought out the flavours of the food.

Our first experience of the Andrew Fairlie and what an experience that was! From walking into the dining room to being the last to leave some hours later, the staff and service was second to none. The food was incredible and kept on coming. Having the paired wines was a good decision as the sommelier was very knowledgeable and explained all the wines throughly. Couldn't fault it.

The meal at Andrew Fairlie was second to none in Scotland. Shame about the location though. It was located in the famous Gleneagles Hotel and despite spending £400 plus in the restaurant, we could not follow up with a drink in the hotel bar.

We were very much looking forward to dining at Andrew Fairlie given all the reviews. But we walked away underwhelmed. The food wasn't as creative as we are used to in 2 Michelin Star restaurants. The service was friendly but not incredible. There seemed to be too few staff for a full restaurant. And the one pescatarian in our group was given basically the same dish 3 times. Disappointing. Even more so that no attempt was made to change even after this feedback was given. So please beware if anyone in your group has special dietary needs.

Everything was wonderful...food, wine and the service (led by Dale the GM).....until at 9:12 pm we were told that we had to return the tables as for the next guest. At that time, we just started our deserts and they didn't even said there is coffee included in the tasting dinner (until I have to remind them)

Andrew Fairie's restaurant at Glen Eagles Hotel is I think one of the eateries you should have on your bucket list. The food is heavenly and the service prompt and efficient, as it was a Saturday night we were lucky in acquiring a table for 4 the last one available for that evening, the waiting staff are up to speed with the menu of the day which is a great help for the undecided dinner, the wine waiter certainly knows his wines and the virtues of pairing wine with food an enjoyable evening.

The visit was tinged with a little sadness due to Andrew's death earlier in the year. The staff have, quite clearly, determined to maintain all of the standards that he set them and it's no surprise that they've maintained their rating. As ever the staff are insightful and describe the food and wine with an insight, knowlege and enthusiasm that is very impressive. The food is superb and the whole experience is liesurely and relaxed - no hint of being rushed or pressured. As ever we enjoyed the four course a la carte menu - but the range of choice is impressive. On the evening of our visit the restaurant was busy and the atmosphere and ambience was exciting and vibrant. Another fabulous experience and one we'll enjoy again next year.

We were staying at Gleneagles and booked Andrew Fairlie. Really great decision. We looked in at restaurant during afternoon and had someone go over our food likes. With mixed likes we we’re really pleased when we got both a normal and vegetarian menu on sitting down. All our amuse bouches were appropriate. Like our meal they were perfect. Food could not be better.

I was treated to dinner here as a special birthday present and the food and service were amazing. The staff were attentive without being overbearing and the sommelier helped us to choose a wonderful champagne. The canapes were inventive and tasty, but one of the highlights had to be the hand dived scallop. I also received an extra little dessert with the words 'Happy Birthday' beside it which was a lovely touch. I have never spent so long in a restaurant in my life and my companion has never spent so much on dinner but we both had a brilliant time and will remember it for years to come.

What a fantastic little find. From the moment we phoned to book our table, until the moment we left, wow! Unbelievable. Staff were so friendly and welcoming, the food was incredible! Generous portions, fresh local produce & the taste was phenomenal. My husband, one year old son & I all had a lovely evening here for dinner and couldn’t have had a better experience. We had starters, main & dessert, and a meal from the children’s menu. Very reasonably priced, especially for quality & portion size. Highly recommend.

It's a winner - Sunday Roast - tasty, moist and appetisingly served. Nice choice of starters and afters as well. Lovely ambidience. Very busy, sign of it's popularity?

We meet for a family lunch here about once a month. Parking is easy and it's free. The dining area is spacious and appealing with lots of natural light The serving staff are always welcoming and service is good. We had a good lunch as we normally do. The menu has improved with more choices and a selection of specials. The food was good with excellent, smiling service today from Heather, Karolina and Lesley. We'll be back.
