Popped in here for lunch as had tried a couple of other places and weren’t too fussed at the menus and were after something to warm the cockles. We were not disappointed. Lovely cosy cafe with a lovely autumn veg soup and a perfect baked tattie. Portions were big and staff kind and courteous. Had a good chat and got some recommendations for local walks. And lovely coffee! I also left my phone charger because I’m a daftie and only realised when we got home to Glasgow and they have been kind enough to post it back! Great service. Recommend the window seat. Perfect place to watch the world go by. Thanks guys!

Food is simply superb. Steak cooked exactly as requested and the starters are equally as good. I can't comment on the desserts because I was too full up to try one!!

Tuvimos un delicioso almuerzo aquí. Los sándwiches y patatas horneadas eran preciosos y muy buena relación calidad-precio. La decoración era preciosa, muy acogedora. El personal era muy agradable y servicial. También noté que el personal estaba muy al tanto de las regulaciones de Covid. Limpiar las manijas de las puertas con frecuencia y asegurarse de que se siguieron todos los demás protocolos. Los pasteles y el café también estaban deliciosos ??????

This would definitely be a five star from us in the past, however we are a little concerned now that the hotel has been taken over by a larger group of hotels. We have been coming here for over ten years, and the hotel and owners have always made our stay very special. They were a tough act to follow. We were a little concerned knowing they were planning to leave, so on our most recent visit enquired as to what the current situation was. The staff are all the same and so is the chef, so thats good, but there were quite a few little things missing that we had noticed. In addition, on one evening a course was not available ( even though the hotel was quiet ) plus three different wine choices were unavailable. This never happened with the previous owners. Sadly, when a group take over a hotel, it loses the personal touch, and we are concerned the bean counters will change it a bit more over the coming months. We will keep an eye on here for updates and other comments before considering our next visit, but sincerely hope it stays unique.

34 High StreetAbsolutely outstanding food and service! Definitely worth a visit! Jon and Fernanda truly care about the quality of food and service they provide and this shows in everything they do. We can’t believe we have been coming to the area for years and haven’t visited before and we will most definitely be back.

16 St Johns PlaceHemos visitado en varias ocasiones durante los 2 años pasados y siempre recibimos excepcional estándar de servicio y excelente comida de degustación, algo que parece ser difícil de encontrar en muchas diners, lo que le pregunto por qué estas otras empresas están todavía en negocios. Nunca hemos tenido algo más que de las comidas excepcionales en una gran relación calidad-precio, es una pena que no viven más cerca. Espero que Alec veranos volveremos algún día y le deseamos y su personal lo mejor dondequiera que estén. Graeme & Mairi
