The best restaurants serving British food in Scotland

I have been an enthusiastic and regular patron of the Pottery for more years than I can remember, certainly 22 plus years. I have introduced many friends and colleagues to its delicious cakes. I was upset and disappointed on my last visit to find that loud unpleasing muzak had been introduced. This ruins the ambience entirely. Who travelling in the Highlands wants loud irrelevant noise? Sadly unless this disappointing development is reversed the place will lose my regular custom and that of my friends.

Lovely, friendly staff provided excellent service. Quality produce, well cooked and presented. Dogs had their own bowls of water plus plenty of attention. We didn’t have room for their home baking but took some home to sample, delicious!

This restaurant is part of Smiths hotel at Gretna Green. We were in the final days of our holiday in Scotland and wanted to have a special meal. We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.

Quick seating. Good lunch choices. Homemade soup. Fish was large serving but not the best I have had while in Scotland. Homemade sandwiches to order

On route to Seton saw a sign for a conservation village. Whilst looking round found this lovely tea room . We had a lovely lunch, we were so impressed that on the way back from our weekend we called in again for breakfast . The staff were very welcoming and went above and beyond to cater for our needs. It’s a super cosy little place and could park right outside the cafe . The breakfast was fantastic value for money and included black pudding, haggis and soda bread . We even bought some of their yummy cakes to take away. All round lovely place to go.

Good food, lovely environment. Our waitress olivia was especially kind, very attentive. Young gentleman Aidan at the bar was lovely to talk to, drinks were perfect. Will be back

Cheap tea - bitter and horrible Carrot cake had very little carrot in it and was absolutely full of sugar! Far tooooo sweet! Yuk. Left a horrific after taste in my mouth.

We ate here and finished our meal, the waitress cleared away and we decided we'd have another round of drinks before leaving. We waited 5, 10 minutes and the waitress never came back. I went in search of someone but couldn't find our waitress. I didn't like to open the doors to the kitchen. We waited another 5 minutes and my wife said 'this is ridiculous' and went off in pursuit. She found our waitress in the bar (was she watching TV, did she fancy the barman?) and asked if we could get some service. The waitress said 'the restaurant is closed', as if we were being unreasonable in expecting to be served a round of drinks. No, the restaurant isn't closed if you've still got people sitting at a table you're serving and you haven't asked them if they want a dessert or offered them the bill but simply buggered off. So we said OK, can we just pay the bill. Which we did, and obviously didn't leave tip. We won't be going back.

An amazing hotel in an amazing location We were greeted by some lovely staff and the lady leisha. Smiles all around. We were shown to our room which was immaculate. We had our little terrier stay with us which was really appreciated and well accommodated for. Leisha gave us plenty of information on the surroundings and where it would be nice to take our dog for a walk. Her reviews on the walks were spot on. We met some lovely locals who were all very friendly and welcoming. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant and it was fantastic. Very impressive hotel in an excellent location, but it is the staff that make this hotel something special. Two that really stand out are David, every inch the genuine Scott and a lovely man, and Rob an amazing and very multi talented man with boundless energy and a fantastic sense of humour. It is these people that bring us back time and time again.

This bar is great for both Birthdays and Sports! I came here on the Carabao Cup Final day for lunch and it was a great experience other than the Tv had a bad view from the table right of the door! The toilets are very clean and sanitary, and our lunch was very large and filling. The food was delicious, especially dessert and I would come here again, behind Italian restaurants! Lovely.

A bit disappointed throughout my read as the reader mobile phone went off a few time which to wasn’t very professional and this was distracting see messages coming through on the phone

We had a lovely dinner on our first night in Glencoe. The service was warm and friendly and the bartender came and walked my husband through the best way to taste scotch. The food was delicious. We had fish & chips, the venison and the lamb shank, all of which were very well prepared.

I came in and within two minutes was asked what I wanted. One menu between two. So only time for one person to look at asked for more time. Ordered a baked potato cheese and one with prawn Marie rose. A can diet of irn bru and can of diet coke when recieved was literally slid to customers. Asked for wificode. I am partially sighted and wear glasses was "told look at board" Potato with cheese came big enough potato but salad was absolutely tasteless Potato with prawns came was average according to customer £2.60 for can diet irn bru £2.60 for can diet coke. Bit of a profit there. Didn't even get asked if wanted sauces vinegar or salt

We decided to eat a light meal at the Muthu Newton Hotel as we had traveled all night to get here. The Chaplin theme of the restaurant is really pleasant. Also, the staff was delightful. Since neither of us were really hungry, we decided to go with the soup of the day which was a Sweet Potato & Coconut Bisque. It was served with a warm roll and butter. The portion was the perfect size, and it was delicious. We decided to splurge and have dessert. I had the brownie with cream, and my friend had the sticky toffee pudding. They were both good, but the sticky toffee pudding was over the top. Really excellent. Prices were very reasonable as well.
