A big thank you to Emma-Jayne, Michal and the team for the lovely birthday celebration meal that we had today 8/4/2025. The food was delicious and everyone really enjoyed it. Emma-Jayne and our waitress were very friendly and attentive. We had such a lovely afternoon, thank you so much. John especially appreciated the hand written "Happy Birthday" message on his desert. We had a voucher from Travelzoo and so on Thursday we girded our loins and took the risk. the staff were very sensible and seated everyone as far apart as possible and kept their contact to a minimum. The food was great and very well displayed. The haddock smokie with egg was delicious. My steak was cooked to perfection. The Harrogate sticky toffee pudding was sweet but not sickly A very enjoyable evening. Let's hope the virus doesn't spoil this resurant.

First time in this place and was told the pies are the best and I have to agree. They were wonderful , I had the chicken and bacon and my husband the steak and ale, unfortunately I had a starter beforehand and struggled to eat 3 quarters of the main sadly leaving some. The girls who served us were all friendly and helpful . Highly recommend to all.

Good variety of food options on the menu and good quality food. Given the name of the establishment, we were slightly disappointed by the wine list, as it only had a relatively small selection from which to choose and the list itself was very poorly printed. They do however have a good range of cocktails, which were very nice. Seating upstairs much quieter than downstairs

I always figure you can’t go wrong with a bacon roll. A good test of a place. Unfortunately it was a disappointment. For £5.50 and a 15 mins wait (was not busy) I opened my roll to find fatty almost streaky bacon. After removing the fat I was left with two or three bites of roll and bacon. If it is streaky back then it should state that. If it is fatty bacon then I would expect to be giving more than 2 slices. Staff were lovely and friendly and the place and other foods did look good. It was a bacon roll fail for me.

I’d been looking forward to this for a while but we were sadly disappointed. On arrival the bar area was nice and relaxed no complaints there. The restaurant area was lighter and brighter than expected and all seemed good the starters were ok my very expensive scallop was nice but nothing to rave about My £40 cod main arrived with a side fat chips and shaved truffle and it was bland really so I didn’t eat much of the small portion when the waiter came to clear the table I also explained that I couldn’t really taste the truffle on the chips. He came back from the kitchen with the message that most people have only tasted the stronger artificial truffle so that might be the reason I couldn’t taste it. I explained that I had eaten real truffle on several occasions and my husband who doesn’t like truffle couldn’t taste it either ! and from that point on it was like we were invisible! We had to ask for drinks and dessert menus and when we got the bill one of the waiters said they had knocked the chips off which was fine but that didn’t make up for the lack of service we got . We paid the bill and left without anyone acknowledging that we were leaving. It left a bad feeling about the place and we won’t be returning

Service and food were OK but a bit overpriced for what it was - £20 for ham, egg & chips, £23 for Cod & chips & £9.50 for desserts are definately on the pricy side - most other rural pubs seem to be £4-£5 cheaper than this. I understand costs have gone up & it's under new management but I'd be hesitant to return unless it was for a special meal - this pub is quite popular for walkers but is now a bit too pricy just to pop in for a post-walk lunch. The Sunday luinches seem to get good reviews so perhaps these are better value. We were also sat under a speaker which was borderline too loud (I never understand why places put speakers directly above tables when they could put them in spaces between tables).

We sat outside as inside was too busy for 4 people and a dog at 11am Sunday. Drinks came fairly soon but we waited a fair while for the food. When it came, there had been a mix up on the order and an item was missing from 2 meals. The mistake was quickly corrected at the Boat Yard's cost, by way of apology. However, we did witness someone else's order getting mixed up as well - make a note of what you ordered. Staff were lovely and friendly and the food was very tasty. The coffee was nice, too.
