It's a lovely place we went there to meet up with friends and the steak I had was cooked to perfection

This is a review for the takeaway, not the restaurant upstairs. Usually great chips, usually poor fish. "Large" haddock is very, very small, and sometimes... well, I'm really not sure it's actually haddock. I grew up with family members in the trade, and my Dad's cousin Derek used to run a chippy - so I know what haddock tastes like!!

After a lot of discussion with locals we went against their recommendations at thought we would try Beckett's as in the past it was always a nailed on option. The new management seems to have let the crown slip the restaurant is now closed. The chips were very nice but the peas were watery and an odd green colour albeit nice in taste but eating green soup with fork isn't easy. The fish was in great batter but unfortunately was bland and tasteless so ended up in the bin and seagulls. Shame considering it's reputation but if you just want Chips and Peas and maybe a sausage then I can't see why I wouldn't visit again. On a plus side they are Fabulous on they're allergy knowledge which is always a big positive to us

Stumbled upon this beautiful place, was made to feel welcome and the food was awesome and large portions I had the beef burger which was absolutely yummy my friend had fish and chip which they thought was lovely too

La señora detrás del mostrador no era muy amable o servicial! Muy decepcionante y molesto! ¡Esperábamos pescado con papas fritas esta noche! ¡Espero que hayas logrado vender tu enorme pila de fichas antes de cerrar temprano! ¡Tienes que cuidar de los lugareños cuando los turistas no están cerca!

Absolutely fabulous fish and chips, nothing better than in good weather to sit at the bench and tables outside in the square and watch the world go by

Fantastic Christmas Day meal Thanku

Booked over the Easter weekend for lunch. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere. Main meal was good and excellent beer. But the size of the desert was a joke. We had Biscoff cheese cake which is our favourite. When it arrived we were so disappointed as it was only about a 2cm thick slice. We were so disappointed. Who would cut a slice of any cake that thinly and charge £8 each??? We booked early so they shouldn’t have been low on quantity. Such a shame as we hadn’t been here before and we are local but we will not be parting with our hard earned money here again.

Bacon bun with tomato. Bun was soggy and WHO puts cold tomato slices on to warm bacon!!! This used to be a really good coffee shop for a snack unfortunately no longer. Please get your act back together.

Fish and chips terrible worst I have had for many a year

We needed a last minute venue for close family and friends for an engagement do. The Wheatsheaf staff, particularly Oliver, couldn't have given us a better service. He made sure we were all looked after and was very helpful. The food was lovely and it couldn't have been a better evening. A big "thank you" to all the staff working at The Wheatsheaf Kirk Ella on Saturday 01/02/25.

Today I took my two grandchildren to the farm for a day out. We went to the cafe for lunch which was dire. The ciabatta cheese and ham sandwich was dreadful. Bread so hard it could break your teeth, two small pieces of ham which I wasn’t sure if it was supposed to be bacon or cooked meat and the cheese was some kind of orange coloured melted mess that I’m not even sure was cheese! There was virtually nothing in the sandwich. The chicken goujons were dry and the coating burnt. The cappuccino was only lukewarm and bitter. It was awful and a very long wait for the food and the food is expensive. We won’t be going there again.

Stayed over for a couple of nights in the hotel. Dined in the grill both evenings and the food was spot on. Our waitress, Izzy, was really helpful and friendly!

Thankfully, we’d booked a table for Sunday Carvery as they were turning people away while we were there. Lovely touch was providing “bits” for your dog if you ask the carver. Very tasty carvery, only grumble we could say was that the food wasn’t piping hot but Luke warm… Lovely staff,, lovely location , lovely carvery…… lovely interior…….. outside could do with a “freshen up” or a lick of paint… Enjoyed our visit…

Didn't receive the food that we expected. Ordered the all day breakfast which clearly states it comes with 2 pieces of toast, it arrived with one slice so we mentioned it and was told oh yes it is normally two, they cut it in half!!! Asked someone else and they arranged for an extra piece, they brought one, we said there are 2 of us she went away came back after speaking to a manager and said it's a misprint and couldn't give us any more. I'm sorry but I ordered based on what it said, had it said one I would have ordered an extra one. The message deliverer was young and lacked people skills, left us feeling really unhappy. I expected better but clearly I expected too much. Disgusted!!
