Started well, nice starters. Main course (booked at 5:30) they didn’t have 2 of the main Sunday meats, beef wellington, or a starter. We ere very disappointed considering we booked early in the night. I asked for two pints one delivered and 2nd one I had to remind the waitress and then it was spilt on the table- didn’t clean it up either. Asked for it to be cleaned and spent the whole meal with a sticky table. Then the cheek of a surcharge and had to ask for it to be removed twice. Wont be returning. This was my second not very good meal here.

Just stayed for one night. Fantastic location. And a decent enough welcome. Room lovely, clean and comfy bed. Lovely quality tea.and coffee. We were asked what time would we like breakfast the choice was 8, 8.30, 9 or 9.30 we chose 9am we came down for breakfast and service was good.. then we chose full breakfast and a good size one turned up!! When we started eating it was clear it had been cooked and left to keep warm ages the egg looked like the yolk had been on somebody elses plate hash brown had such a hard bottem you couldn't get your teeth though it, I'm sure they knew how bad it was as they kept well out of the way. We left lots of the breakfast! We proceeded to check out and she said was everything OK ? I said lovely apart of the breakfast that had been kept warm far too long.. she just said sorry and not very sincerly and changed the subject.. we travel alot and vote with our feet.. won't be returning to stay at the Royal george. Such a shame. But we didn't let it ruin our lovely trip to Staithes..and we will be back......

Came for Sunday dinner and hot shot parmo, the parmo wasn't a hot shot! It had 2 piece's of pepperoni on it with nothing else how is that a hot shot parmo ? The Sunday roast was very bland, and tasteless with very watered down gravy! Nobody came to ask how our meal was which is such a shame as I'd of like to give my honest review. Such a shame as it's a lovely pub! Sorry chef but this needs sorting as we certainly won't be coming back

Bar Tat has been a staple in my life for over 20 years, and while the beer remains excellent, particularly the selection from Vocation Brewery, the experience has recently been undermined by an unfortunate shift in atmosphere. The issue isn't the quality of the beer – it’s top-notch, as always. The problem lies with the music. The staff seem to have taken it upon themselves to curate a playlist that channels the feel of a 1970s rock pub. While I have no objection to a bit of Asia or Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, the relentless volume and choice of obscure B-sides are overwhelming. It's often far too loud, making conversation impossible and creating an uncomfortable environment for what should be a relaxing pint. It leaves me wondering if this is part of a poorly executed rebrand or simply staff imposing their personal preferences at the expense of the customers' experience. Whatever the reason, it feels out of step with what this pub once was. Bar Tat has always stood for great beer and a welcoming atmosphere, and while one half of that remains intact, the other is faltering. For now, I’ll keep coming back for the beer, but I hope they reconsider the approach to music before it drives more long-standing patrons away.

Came in with my husband for a meal last week, service was ok, young waitress was pleasant but needed training and management seemed lacking. Food was not up to standard especially for the price. I had the chicken Kiev, it was soggy and so were the fries. Wouldn't go back

Our meal was lovely, lovely staff but to have dogs in the eating area. We love animals but the loud barking and wet dog smell from a dog sat at side of our table was a no no, really put us off our food..I understand its a dog friendly pub but they should be areas for dogs and it's not in the eating area..

We recently held a private family event at the Duke of York, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. From start to finish, Ellie and the team looked after us with the upmost care and professionalism. The food was excellent. All our needs were catered for seamlessly, making it a truly memorable occasion. Highly recommend the Duke of York for any special event.

Reserved a table online for a small family reunion. Clearly a popular spot and there were a lot of people milling around outside and drinking outside the pubs on the main street. Service inside was good and there was a good choice of food which was very tasty. Sadly there was a large group of well watered men booked onto the table next to us, in the area by the bar, which completely spoilt the last half of our meal as we simply couldn't hear each other talking. It was a real shame that staff didn't consider putting us in the other part of the restaurant where there were several empty tables all evening, or relocating us for the last part of our meal when it would have been obvious we could no longer converse or hear. .... this would have made all the difference. (It would have been awkward having to ask to be moved ... but care from front of house staff could have carefully relocated us.)
