Had our four legged friend with us so couldn't go to our usual chippy restaurant. One star is for the chips which were edible. But what we received was a thin tough overcooked piece of fish covered in the thickest toughest batter which I nearly choked on I have osphigtihitus as the unique tough brittle texture took me by surprise. I guess if the'd used lighter normal batter it would have looked like a pancake.

Best in Cleethorpes! Absolutely phenomenal every time. They do amazing cake slices too, lovely staff anyway. Don’t go anywhere else, they take cash and card.

I have been visiting this fish shop for 20 +years and have never been disappointed until my last two visits the first time just put poor quality I put down to the fact new staff and they finding their feet so didn't go straight back however, Latest visit I popped in for pie and chips and despite telling chap behind the counter pie was overcooked and dry the last time I was there he dismissed my comment which was purely made nicely and politely because never had problems before and he proceded to do exact same time on microwave for pie while outright arguing I was wrong and pie wasn't overcooked and granted I should have just walked out at that point however as I was hungry just downgraded my order to 1 bag of chips as did not want to waste my time or money on shop that doesn't listen to customers and I have to say its now couple of weeks since been in compared to couple of times week I used to visit. I am currently looking for somewhere new to eat although sea way definitely worse fish and chips would go there rather than becketts just because of rudeness of man with beard behind the counter If I walk past and he isn't there I may go in and try again

Don;t know what's happenend at Ernie Becketts - the last few times we have ordered fish and chips - well, the box was only half full of actual chips - the rest of the box was packed with 'shards' of sharp potatoes - this just isn't worth the expensive price . . please purchase a proper 'chipper' machine and lets have value for our money

This has to be the BEST fish & chips I've had!!!! They clearly have a goof reputation as its always busy. If I had a niggle it would be closing at 4.30 on a Sunday. I have to use Papas on the pier, they're nice but nothing like Becketts. Overall, great tasting, reasonably priced and good portion sizes. I can't walk past without going in now!

Such a shame the restaurant isn’t open but we had the most delicious fish and chips served in a box. Fish was cooked to perfection with crispy batter and big white flakes of haddock. Chips were perfect with right amount of colour and crispy on outside and fluffy on inside. Not being far from sea front we drove to it and enjoyed them sat in the car. We will be returning

My goodness, the best chippy in Cleethorpes. Absolutely s***s on all others around the area. The seaway down the road is god awful so we thought we would visit the market place and saw Ernie becketts and by golly we were not let down. Guys behind the counter are lovely and nothing is too much! Keep up the good work guys!

We were recommended to this chip shop and won’t be returning. The food (we both had fish and chips with mushy peas) was reasonable with the fish freshly cooked to order. The chips appeared a little stale and old though. For £19.20 I expected a little more for my money and was a little disappointed if I’m honest.

Chose Beckets for my takeaway due to its solid reputation as fancied a change from my usual. Sadly I'm not likely to return. The chips looked like they had been sat a while and were dry and lukewarm. The fish was just like mush inside and the batter far too thick and hard. Also the yellow mush between the batter and the fish was not at all appealing. Sorry!

Been going here for 19yrs, first real date with my husband and been coming here every year about this time of year plus also in between. They are the best fish & chips we've had in Cleethorpes. I ordered small fish and chips plus a fish for my dog done dusted with flour. The service was quick. staff are friendly and pleasant. Will be back next time in Cleethorpes. Keep up the good work

This used to be our favourite chippy, but I will not be going again. Me and my family were hungry and ready for our dinner. The chip should is devided into a takeaway and restaurant. We walked in and the takeaway was empty so we walked straight to the counter to be served. The strange lady behind the counter who was in her late 40s small with dark hair in a ponytail. I looked at her whilst she was frying fish and she looked at me and said nothing. I looked at my wife who looked at me with the impression of what the...I looked at the lady again who carried on ingnoring us and frying fish. We waited a good couple of minutes and she continued to blank us. She was obviously happy in her work “not”. We walked out I said thankyou for ignoring us. Never going again, and by the way if you do go they priorities the restaurant over the takeaway side be warned.

Visited here on armed forces day the takeout out was jammed so we decided to sit in with the grandson and glad we did. Our Order was taken quickly food was served quickly and was hot. We got the haddock chips and beans from the child's menu for the grandson and it was a very good portion. Me and my wife had regular haddock set menu which was perfection waitress was very friendly nothing was to much bother for her. 10/10 for service food and friendliness. Only thing I would say is its a shame there's no desserts but I will be back for more meals.

Had reason to go into Grimsby,(40 miles from home), so after decided to have fish and chops as it was late teatime. Have been to Beckitts before and we both ordered Regular Haddock and Chips with Tea and Bread and , Butter. The Fish was immaculate, very tasty, lovely crisp batter and most importantly piping hot! Which leaves the chips. It has to be said that they were perfectly cooked, HOWEVER, SADL they were only Lukewarm....... So cant give it full marks for the food, particularly as we were the only customers at the time. In the restaurant the food should be cooked to order!). However still a a very good meal.

We had a day out at Cleethorpes last week and visited Ernie Becketts for lunch. This was our second time there and we were made really welcome. This is a traditional fish and chip restaurant that hasn't lost it's tradition. Quality and service is the order of the day and the friendliness is exemplary. We had the 'pensioners special' for £7 (I think). Good food, fresh bread with real butter and a big pot of coffee - more than we could drink. A big smile and a genuine thank you on leaving, what more could you ask for? A big thank you back and see you again on our next trip.

This place has changed over the years, after last year (2023) I wasn't sure if I wanted to come back, but I'm glad it did. Myself and mostly Gluten Free family had lovely carvery. - Good Cleanliness - Decent Atmosphere - Nice Setup - Meat was cooked to perfection. 🤌🏻 There's were however a things that wasn't particularly great... - I was the only person in the line for a carvery and I watched 12 minutes go by. - The roast potatos were VERY crispy. - No more refillable drinks! I got very annoyed standing there, I have a blue badge due to my disability and my lordosis wasn't doing great but I managed. I know people that wouldn't be able to manage that kind of wait which could take away their independence. Admittedly I only had one roast potato, I like to think I pick the ones that look the best and look fluffy. But the texture and taste wasn't great. Could have been a bad pick, bad batch or just a bad day. I have really enjoyed them in the past. For a refillable drink it only cost 15p more than a regular pint of pop. 😬 So I was shocked to find that there is no more refillable.

Sourdough with starter was like a rock, tried to cut, all over the table. Main course fish was average. Main course was lukewarm, cous cous was cold and clumpy, flat bread was like cardboard, salad was fine! Expensive, didn’t complain but would never return or recommend
