The place is nicely decorated with a lot of space between the tables. We were served by Oliver who was very friendly, fast with our orders and was happy to engage in a conversation with us. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, I will definitely be recommending Calverley Grill and will return. Thank you Oliver for this nice experience.

Booked for dinner last night as art of our anniversary night away treat. Two mixed grills were thoroughly enjoyed. Breakfast this morning, however, was a slightly different affair, whilst the continental selection is excellent , the cooked breakfast items were extremely cold, which made this part of the breakfast not enjoyable.

We stayed at Oulton hall and were booked in for dinner on our first night! Myself and my fiancé felt the starters were really nice (I had the squid and he had the halloumi) and we both went for the steak which was very nice! We both felt the portions were perfect size! The atmosphere was very nice and calm and we loved it! Very nice for dinner

Fantastic. The staff were friendly and polite. I was impressed how quickly the food came out and the food itself was very tasty - I had the squid for starters, steak for main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert.

This kitchen must get away with inconsistent quality because the hotel hosts so many first time and non-repeat diners. A £34 rib-eye, ordered medium, arrived very much overdone. The replacement was neither medium nor medium rare, but “bleu”.It was “good in parts” for me as I like rare beef, but those parts amounted to only about half of the steak. I was sorry that I took the risk. Stick to safer and cheaper menu choices in this restaurant.

We ate with friends and was disappointed. Our friends had eaten there a few times and they said that the standard and quality of food was not as good. We all had ribeye steak which wasn’t of a good quality. We had to ask 3 times for a jug of water. The overall quality of the food wasn’t worth the price that we paid. At breakfast, on our first morning there was a dead dragon fly amongst the tomatoes that I had to point out to the staff! On the third morning when we went up to the hot buffet there were not any plates and the serving dishes were empty, surely someone should be overseeing this and keep it stocked, when I asked a member of staff if there was anyone looking after the area she quickly went to the kitchen, not very good customer service! My husband asked for another coffee, it never appeared and so we gave up.

Me and my fiancé visited Calverley Grill for our wedding menu tasting. The restraunt is beautiful, the food was fantastic and the service was outstanding. We cannot compliment our server Carlos enough for the fantastic job he did not only for his friendly demeanor, but also making recommendations and giving advice for our food choices as well as making us feel special. I went for here an interview and trial here they said the food is mainly bought in pre prepared then heated up. They didn't employ a pastry chef and said establishment buy deserts in. On the trial, I sampled some pomme puree and it really was bland as mash, get Smash (packet mash). I told them this, also, they charged me for a coffee. Nice hotel & surroundings, on closer inspection the wallpaper was peeling off and furniture need touching up.

The sirloin steak is amazing! Stayed at Oulton hall with my husband and we ate in the Grill. There is a limited menu but enough to suit anyone. The sirloin steak was cooked perfectly and i really enjoyed it. Had a cheese board after and it was a little expensive for the amount of food but very tasty and enjoyable. Staff were very attentive and helpful.

The Calverley Grill is in the Oulton Hall Hotel. The hotel and restaurant look amazing but the food really was awful and a massive let down. We stayed the night at this hotel as a treat night away because we wanted somewhere that served good food and we wouldn’t have to drive. The menu is relatively small so we assumed it would all be cooked fresh. But our main courses were served less than 10 minutes after ordering and were as tasteless as a ready meal. The chargrilled chicken with garlic and rosemary was tasteless, the battered haddock was ok but the chips served with both meals were terrible. I've had better meals served in a pub on a 2 for 1 deal but this was a supposed to be a good quality restaurant. Needless to say we won’t be returning which is such a shame because the hotel and restaurant surroundings are top quality, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful, but the food is very poor.

Arrived at the restaurant at 7pm to be told the table was booked for the following day by mistake and could not be fitted In until 8:30pm by which point we were starving. The food did not arrive until after 10pm at which point I was beyond hunger. We both ordered the duck which was inedible and still quacking. When we complained the manager was rude and stated what’s the problem that’s my favourite meal. Great for her but she is not paying. This place makes Wetherspoons food taste lovely. When I complained I was given the option to swap my meal but after waiting over an hour and half I was beyond hungry. Very rude staff. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Initially shown to a table in an area where no other diners were so we asked to be in the main room where there was some atmosphere. Slow service. Basic food and was not a fine dining experience. No attention to detail. Water jug plonked on the table as he passed and we had to ask twice for one. No service staff asking if we required anything during our meal or if we were alright and satisfied. Did not ask us if we would like a coffee after our meal. Cannot recommended.

The food was secondary cooked under heat lamps, the potatoes were precooked the chilled and reheated, terrible. It’s such a shame, I hope the get put this right soon, and the manager Oliver addressed the situation with us and saved the day.

Visited here on Friday evening for dinner and the food was very nice. Had the garlic and herb chicken with kaleslaw and French fries. The surroundings were also very nice.Although tasty the chicken was very small for the amount spent.I also found the service a bit indifferent. A lot of staff stood in a group and when one came over to take My order I was advised that they could only take the drink order, before someone else from the group came to take my food order. I couldn't understand why. A number of different staff members then came over at different times to ask how the food was. The strangest part was when one simply took away my full jug of water whilst I was eating.Very tasty food, but service needs to be more focused.

Had a drink in the bar - but staff very poorly trained and had no idea what was going on. Although they did try. No management around to give direction. Barrell needed changing and no one knew how to do it. No staff could use the card machine.Drinks and tables not cleared. Dinner a complete disaster. The hotel bills itself as dog friendly but nowhere to eat with a normal dining table except outside. So no good if it’s raining!Free bottle of wine with our deal not at our table as promised. No wine or drinks menus given to us and we didn’t have any drinks even by the time our meal came.Food was not good for a 2 rosette restaurant. Pork T bone dry and sad, chips good though. My wife’s burger was awful - poor quality and dry. Food cold and no cutlery. Tried to order dessert but nothing arrived. Complained and apparently the lady who took the order had a headache and didn’t write it down (despite this being the lady who took our order…!). 2nd excuse was that it was on the other side of the hotel and she didn’t have time to get it.Then we asked for the desserts in our room. Went upstairs, but they didn’t arrive. So went to the restaurant and asked where they were. Apparently not ordered as room service. Instead I was presented with desserts in the middle of the restaurant to take myself up to our room - quite embarrassing…

Stayed at Oulton Hall for 4 nights with a group of about 30 people and had dinner in the Calverley Grill each night. The food was underwhelming and under seasoned and the service was atrocious. On the first night, a random selection of tables had no salt and pepper on the tables and another random selection of tables had no water glasses. Our table was one of the lucky ones that got a salt cellar and a pepper pot. Unfortunately the salt cellar was empty! After a wait of 30 minutes, we were offered water! The waiters did not seem to be able to correlate food orders with table numbers, so waiters would wander around forlornly calling out "who ordered the mackerel?"It took two and a half hours to complete dinner. This problem persisted and was repeated each night, even though, after the fiasco of the first night we were asked to fill in a form at breakfast ordering our dinner choices.!The tale of the random water glasses and salt and pepper continued, but with a different random selection of tables each night, just to keep us on out toes!I could go on and on, but I want to forget my experience, so I will stop here. All I can say is that I will never go back to this hotel!

Myself and my fiancé had booked an overnight spa break with Oulton Hall with the evening meal included in the package. Our reservation for The Calverley Grill was booked for 8:15pm. When we arrived we were seated and had to wait 40 minutes before a member of staff came and took our drinks order. Once our drinks order was taken it then took a following 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive and our order to be taken!! We then waited another hour for our meal and my fiancé’s burger was brought out at 10:20pm. He started to eat his burger and 15 minutes later I hadn’t received mine, I then had to try and flag down a member of staff who then said he would go and check where mine was. The waiter then came out to ask me again what I’d had ordered and they had forgotten to make my meal. At this point I was absolutely fuming and my fiancé had completely finished his meal. Then then at 10:50pm brought out my meal and by then it was too late to eat and I had gone past hungry. They offered me a free drink to apologise for the service and tried to charge me for it on our final bill!!!!! The food was nice but certainly not worth the wait, absolutely disgusting. Reluctantly we had breakfast there the next morning due to it being in the package and again we was waiting half an hour for a cup of tea! The waiters only looked really young and couldn’t seem to care less. I will not be returning again to this restaurant.

Stayed at hotel as a spa package we had £28 towards evening meal, you need to put a bit extra to it, but we didn’t go for the cheapest options. The food was all amazing, really good temperature and great presentation. All the staff are so helpful and friendly and are always ensuring you are enjoying the meal and have enough drinks and topping up water. The food was really tasty. We also had the lunch buffet, great value. Then the breakfast, great choice of drinks, hot and cold buffet with various breads, we went around 8am so it was lovely and quiet too!

I must say the hotel and the grounds are lovely. But I cannot say the same for the service. We had a table reserved for 8:15pm in the Calverley Grill on Saturday 16th February. Yes it was full and busy, but you had to make a reservation (so they should of made sure they were fully staffed for this) we were taken to our seat at 8:15pm and at 8:55pm a waiter finally came and asked what drinks we wanted, we asked x2 waiters on 2 occasions if we could order some drinks, to be told I'll be back in 5 mins. We weren't even offered water for the table! All we wanted was 1 bottle of prosecco. Little did I know at the time, my partner was planning on proposing to me, which obviously didn't go to plan due to the poor service and us only finishing eating at around 11pm (were at this point the restaurant was pretty empty and everyone was clearing up) So he had no other choice but to do the proposal in the room, which was a lovely surprise but upsets me that he had it planned a different way and this couldn't of been fulfilled.

Firstly, I’m really shocked by some of the negative reviews of this place. I am seriously fussy and expect very high standards - and this place delivered. Our waitress (think she was called Oona) was so lovely, she really looked after us. I asked for her recommendation for main cause and she suggested the sea bass - I wasn’t disappointed. We both had pigeon for starter which was very well cooked and the sauce was tasty and interesting. Hubby had belly pork which he said was very good and I really enjoyed the fish. We ordered carrots and green beans to share as sides. Instead of carrots, new potatoes arrived. When I highlighted this, we were told to keep the potatoes and carrots quickly followed. All the veg was absolutely delicious and al dente which I like. For dessert we shared the selection of chocolate and it was a perfect size for 2 people. We also added some breads to the beginning of our meal. I didn’t think the £28pp we had as part of our package would go very far since we opted for 3 courses plus bread - but it only cost us an additional £15 for the food. We did add a bottle of wine on and were aware drinks were at additional cost. We absolutely loved everything we had. When we got the bill, a service charge was included which we expected (although I only realised afterwards this was only on our drinks bill). However when we checked our waitress would receive the full service charge, I was surprised to hear that wouldn’t be the case as it all gets shared equally. We didn’t have cash on us but we thought she was excellent so I nipped back to the room to get her some. When I gave it her, she was so delighted and took the service charge off the original bill for us even though we had left the restaurant. I hope she hears / sees this feedback as she was really lovely and made our evening really special. So in summary, go, it’s yummy!

It's the morning after the night before and as I lay here at 5 o'clock in the morning starving hungry my thoughts return to last nights dinner at the Calverley Grill. As we were staying at Oulton Hall this in house "fine dining????!!!" restaurant was recommended. I'd obviously upset the receptionist in another life as I I then had the misfortune of dining here!! Arriving 12 minutes before my reservation I was told that I couldn't be seated early, as I looked around at the numerous empty tables I asked why I couldn't have one of those to which the maitre d in a terrible suit with mismatched shirt and tie walked off and wasn't to be seen again!! The alarm bells should have rung and the JustEat app should have been fired up to save me from what was possibly the laziest attempt at cooking you could imagine!! The one roaeet plate as you come in should inspire confidence IT DOESN'T. Having sat ag my table for what felt like an age I eventually met my waitress, meeting doeant necessarily mean getting anything to eat or drink in this place. People think the Brexit negotiations will be long and drawn out, they should try eating here emphasis on the word try!! Chicken parfait for my good lady and pigeon breast for myself, where do I begin; the.pigeon was some of the laziest chefing you'll ever know unprepared with the sinew in fact made this impossible to cut through with a knife. The chicken parfait I personally found under seasoned and too rich, my other half said it was nice. We both ordered the crispy lemon and thyme chicken, urendered chicken skin should have sent me running, the lack of thyme or lemon or salt or pepper made this greasy tasteless dry piece of meat inedible, I tried honestly I did I was so hungry but how long can you chew on a piece of chicken for, the French fries why why why cant you peel a potato the crunchy slaw had no crunch. Three things done badly !! For the beat part of £200 they'll be better places to eat, the bins around the streets of Leeds and wakefield spring to mind. If it was £10 I'd still have been embarrassed for them!!Oh and its just dawned on me that breakfasts there in the morning!!

An excellent evening meal in the Calverley Grill restaurant with a good menu and helpful attentive staff. Only one criticism.....we were on a prepaid dinner bed and breakfast package in the hotel. When presented with the menu in the restaurant it stated that those on a dinner package had a £28 allowance. It was not actually possible - even selecting the cheapest from each course - to have a three course meal for as little as £28!! I don’t mind a supplement being added for something like steak but I think it unreasonable to effectively force an additional payment for a regular meal when you think you have already paid up front.

Restaurant SOOOO bad, don’t even bother just for the fact of that. Lovely day in the spa area with a massage, although not a lot to do (compared to titanic spa in Huddersfield). After being shown to a table and told ‘I’ll be with you in a moment’. I had to ask for a drinks order to be taken 28 minutes later and after 10 minutes of trying to find what ‘ courvoisier‘ was, seeing as we weren’t given a drinks menu, the waiter told me they didn’t have it (later I found a drinks menu and discovered they did). I proceeded to order a desperado with a lime, he didn’t know what this was... after 10 minutes of trying to find desperado, he finally brought me one, but SHOCK, there was no lime in the whole building. £5.50 for a drink and you don’t even get a lime with it dinner came fairly quickly and was at a decent standard, aside from the fact the duck was still quacking, not that we got it re cooked, just a sorry and then the plate taken away. Oh I forgot to mention, we ordered a jug of water on arrival and had to ask again when ordering our mains basically an hour later

Take your own wine, because service is non existent. Such a pity, the accommodation is 1st class. But GO THE PUB down the road, if you are looking for better service, and a better quality of food. Well appointed ambient dining room and efficient friendly staff. Suggest you book early if staying in the hotel as some guests turned upon spec with no reservations and caused a log jam. Food was extremely high standard from the entrees through to the dessert. Had seared scallops as a starter a beautiful dish cooked to perfection and my wife had goats cheese panacotta .Main courses were lovely we had Maple Glazed ducks breast, confit leg with extras of honey roasted parsnips and carrots and fine beasn slallots and parmesan crumb followed by Ginger panacotta and Dark chocolate pot and fresh cream with a nice cabernet sauvignon . My only teeny weeny gripe is that extra sides we added could be slightly more in portion size and the wines are just a little expensive and would have had another bottle if the price had been tweaked slightly.

I always enjoy Sunday lunch at the Calverley Grill, the food and service are excellent, however, this visit was spoilt slightly due to my starter being served on a slate! There is a reason why plates are designed the way they are: they keep the food where it is meant to be; and, they are glazed to prevent a horrible grating noise. I do hope this phase will pass and they revert to plates, in the meantime when I return (and I will definitely return) I will ask for our orders to be served on plates.

Stayed on a 2 day break at Oulton Hall, we have been a few times over the years since the De Vere days. An excellent Hotel. I must confess we don't always dine in the Calverley, usually the more informal Claret Jug, however as part of the break we dined there on the first night. Excellent surroundings, the room is also utilized for breakfast (also excellent) Booking is expected and we took the earliest at 6.30pm. A varied Set Menu was offered, £28.00 (2 courses,) £34.00 (3 courses.) I chose soup of the day - Spicy Cauliflower, very good, my wife chose Chicken with Lardons and a raspberry dressing which she really enjoyed. main course, Garlic Chicken, skinny fries, flat mushroom with rocket salad for me, my wife had Pork Cutlet, tomato, flat mushroom, thick wedge chips and rocket salad. The portions were quite large and subsequently we did not have a dessert. A great meal in very relaxed surroundings.

we visited oulton hall recently and decided to visit the grill as we love nice restaurants and good food, unfortunatly neither were delivered as our food came cold and when we had the audacity to actually mention this we were met with a smirk and when it came back slightly warmer there was no apology and we were made to feel we were in the wrong!!!!the older staff were all bickering amongst themselves and giving the younger(and much more pleasant)staff a hard time while ignoring the actual customers, the food was bland and not up to pub meal standard and no where near the restaurant level they should be achieving, lots of other complaints by different groups of people all saying a similar thing and this is definatly one to avoid so try the claret jug or the pub at the end of the drive as much better food and service, dave

We ate here twice in one day - not because we wanted to, but because we were refused a refund on our evening meal having tried the lunch. The manager was insistent the evening food was much, much better and gave us a free bottle of wine, but wouldn't let us take our evening allowance for the spa day as a refund. The lunch was beyond dreadful. I would have been less insulted if they'd said there was no food and we could carry over our allowance to the evening. The buffet was as limited as anything I've ever seen - one cold baked potato, some quorn mince, a bland soup with some rolls and what looked like an angel delight made in hell, with a hair in it. Great. The worst thing was that the staff didn't even appear bothered. I wonder if they would ever consider eating any of it. A word here on the staff in general - they were utterly joyless and unsmiling. Perhaps they knew how bad the food was.Anyway, we returned in the evening trying to keep an open mind. The restaurant is enormous. It can't be possible to maintain any kind of quality or consistency even if it is half full. Perhaps fortunately, it was pretty quiet. We got our bottle of wine - an absolutely bang average bottle of Pinot Noir, and then ordered our food, which, on paper at least, looked good.I had a duck and chicken terrine for my starter - utterly flavourless. The other half wasn't so lucky though. She had the mackerel, and it came on its own - no bread or anything to spread it on or to combat the saltiness. Worse still, it looked like a giant version of the mould that grows at the bottom of a coffee cup after three weeks on the shelf. I've attached a picture - it really was that bad.For mains, we both had fillet steaks. They were cooked to our liking, and not too bad. They weren't melt-in-the-mouth, but then our expectations were so low at this point that we were just relieved that they didn't come out overdone. For dessert, the other half had a chocolate orange tart. The waiter insisted that all the desserts were made fresh and in house. Hmmmm. I had the cheeseboard (Yorkshire and farm cheeses) - my selection? That horrible Wensleydale with cranberry that British families seem to feel duty-bound to buy at Christmas, before putting it in the bin, 10% eaten, two weeks later, a stilton and a brie. Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure those are the three cheese you get in those Christmas packs at Tesco. Maybe they had a few left over.If you really like good restaurants, there are so many in Leeds to choose from, and I hear that Salute at The White Swan down the road is very nice. Just go there.

Beautiful room. Staff excellent but let down by the buffet. Constantly running out of food and we were constantly asking for refills. Fruit was down to just melon. No eggs no beans no plates. For a top hotel this was very poor.

The service was great; friendly and prompt. The starter & main were fairly average (duck breast was fatty & disappointing) whilst the pudding was excellent. What really let the meal down was the price & the poor wine. It feels like this restaurant is trying to compete with high end establishments (hence the prices £££) but failing. They should either lower the prices or improve the quality of the food.

We had a special deal with travelzoo for two nights at Oulton Hall and the first night included £28 voucher for the grill (but not drinks). With the prices advertised we would not normally eat here so were well prepared what we would order. In the end one had lamb, the other sirloin steak from the grill. The food was good, perfectly cooked, although the lamb cutlet was a bit tough, but the side order of country chips worked out at 50p per chip.We shared a cheeseplate for £9 which was plentiful and also tasty. The service was very good and friendly. So mostly good if you are prepared to pay the prices.

Food lovely but felt very rushed throughout, no chat, no recommendations, no specials, etc. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast in here as part of our package; lunch had minimal options, dinner was better and breakfast had plenty of choice.

The quality and presentation is first class. We were staying at the hotel and had dinner on two evenings. We had scallops with a mango salad which was superb as was the cod supreme. Breakfast also is a sumptuous affair with a help yourself buffet which has everything you could wish for. The staff are brilliant and nothing is too much trouble. A fantastic restaurant.

We stayed overnight and had our evening meal here. I know that this type of restaurant, you expect to have smaller portions of quality food, but for the price, I like to feel a bit full after three courses. The food was fantastic, in particular the pork belly, but I just wanted more. We found one waiter quite rude and dismissive but the rest were fantastic, courteous and polite who were willing to help at all times.

Had evening meal here on both nights of our stay at the hotel . The attentive staff made it a wonderful experience it is many years since we received such service in a chain hotel. The food was well presented and the puddings were an amazing work of art . The decor and ambience was that of another era .

As always excellent food, service and surroundings. I have selected the "mid range" option for how expensive the restaurant is, however, it is fine dining at mid range prices! Go and enjoy it for yourself.

Sunday lunch here was £25 for 3 courses. The food was adequate with the vegetables, mackerel and beef being good. The hotel serves the Guinness that one of the party ordered but it is not in the Calverley bar. It would have been a 30 second walk to the main bar for the waiting staff to have provided that service. Shockingly, that wasn't available so we had water. We won't be back. There are plenty of places in the area where not only is the food better, but they also have pride in customer service. Poor.

We ate here as part of a spa break we had booked to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. We can't get over how polite+helpful all the staff were, nothing is too much trouble and hardly ever had to ask for anything extra as they where on the ball !!First we had a 'light lunch' which was actually a 3 course buffet!! first was vegetable soup and bread rolls, then main there was chicken breast, new potatoes, a tomato pasta with cheese, salads + coleslaw ect, then putting there was fruit, yoghurt, an almond+raspberry tart and i think a tiramisu slice.. ammmmazing!!!We had an evening meal aswel, we both chose the 10oz Rib-Eye steak with a peppercorn sauce, it was cooked perfectly and the hand cut chunky chips where so tasty and again cooked perfect. We had breakfast the morning after, which again was buffet style but a huge selection, full english, breads+Cheeses/jams, toast, muffins, fruit, cereals. We had a full english and a pot of tea, all perfect, couldn't rate the food any higher and the staff again were amazing! a credit to oulton hall.

Stayed at The Oulton Hall as part of a company Christmas party. We didn't realise that the meal was a buffet but it was good nonetheless. I chose gammon which was lovely. Breakfast the next day was good, although the only hot food I ate was scrambled egg on toast. What stood out was how helpful the staff were- nothing was too much trouble. the man looking after the toaster was particularly helpful and friendly. Although breakfast officially finished at 10 latecomers were not made to feel uncomfortable.

My friends and I were staying in the hotel on a spa package which included £28 towards an evening meal. The restaurant was very busy and we had to wait a while to be acknowledged and then seated. Staff were very friendly though once we were, one even escorting us to the toilets as they said they were a little hard to find! Everything took a little while but we weren't in a rush so wasn't a problem. I had scallops to start which were fantastic and cooked to perfection with some great complimenting flavours. I also really enjoyed the rib-eye for main but found a hair in my rocket garnish on my second to last bite. I know these things can't be helped sometimes so I can forgive them for that as the great food and service more than made up for it. I'd like to come back just for an evening meal one night as I preferred it to Gauchos which I visited the night after and had pretty much the same.

The food is average to say the least, had to wait 45 minutes for main course., when the food came it was mediocre to say the least. Lamb was £18.00 and needed extra veg to make a meal (£3.50 per extra portion) we have been here before. The room we had was lovely, bar area was freezing. Food.....not great!
