A quiet evening meal for my daughters birthday. Honestly probably the worst meal out we've ever had. Waited over an hour for our main courses, one was completely wrong (which nobody admitted and the birthday girl waited another 10 minutes for the right meal to arrive), the vegan lasagne was cold and the steak pie incredibly dry as it had clearly been waiting for some time. The lasagne was sent back to "get another one" and came back rock hard!! Clearly it had been microwaved, even though we were assured not, it was obvious! Most of the staff were lovely and very apologetic, they did recompense us, but really I'd rather have had a lovely meal and paid for all of it. Definitely won't be back, even if it was just a bad day, it wasn't just one thing that wasn't right.

Six of us linched there today 14th November. We have been before & of course return. There is always a very nice friendly atmosphere. The food & service are good and I have no hesitation in recommending this establishment to anyone. The staff cannot do enough and are pleasant with humour (essential in our world)

Extremely poor experience! A catalogue of errors! Incorrect information given regarding the food. Told us the seafood linguini was spicy when it wasn't. Told us the incorrect cheesecake flavour. Delays bringing food out. Waiter dropped one of the kids starter down one of our kids back, then took ages to replace it. Kids main meal delayed even more. Missing side dishes, we had to chase. Kids desserts were wrong! Shocking service! Such a shame because the food was lovely when it did arrive!

After two enjoyable visits in a week, the Brownlee Arms are fully deserving of top marks. I'm delighted to see a local pub evolving with current trends and serving the community as it is, rather than looking backwards and wondering what's going wrong. On my visit the pub was busy with couples, friends, families and a baby shower all co-existing happily and adding to the atmosphere with an equal welcome. This was a brunch visit and the menu was surprisingly good, a mix of all the classics with enough variety to tempt another visit. Service was friendly and attentive and the food and drinks were excellent. See you again soon!

This is a nice place. Very clean and modern. We booked a table for 8 of us which was ready when we arrived. Most of us ordered to Sunday roast which came as 2 or 3 courses (I feel that they'd sell more if they did a 1 course option on the menu). The food was okay (roast potatoes not good, the rest was good to be fair). Service was generally good but the bill was wrong, again, to be fair, they did rectify this.

We were really looked after always checking if we had our food or needed any drinks ! We felt that Jack and his team went above and beyond to make our sons birthday special ! We were in the conservatory and it was beautiful and perfect for our party . We would like to thank all the team , chefs waiters waitresses and anyone else that contributed to our evening . Went to the newly refurbished restaurant with friends for the early bird menu. The decor was nice and the staff friendly and welcoming. Starters were great. Large portion of mussels went down well. Beautiful prawns and garlic mushrooms. Main courses were very disappointing. My friends battered fish was over cooked and burnt. Even their second attempt was as bad. Eton mess desert was all cream. No fresh strawberries or even meringue. I would not bother going again. Plenty of better restaurants in horsforth.

My mum and her friends came at the weekend for a Sunday lunch. They left very unimpressed and underwhelmed. This is not the first occasion they have experienced this over the last year. Table booked for 1.30 arrived early, sat outside with drinks was seated early at 1.15 which was great, then waited 45 minutes to be asked for their order, meal arrived around 2.20, the waiting staff did keep apologising for the wait but wasn’t overly busy. Potatoes rock hard, nut roast sloppy, meat adequate and strange vegetable selection for a Sunday roast! Not much choice for deserts everything chocolatey and in very small writing there was a £2 supplement on top on the already extortionate prices for the deserts at £7.95! Needless to say we will not be returning after 3 visits of dissatisfaction.

I miss the Brownlee Arms so much and I am always talking of their amazing chunky chips. I moved away from Leeds so I haven't been able to go back yet but I am certain planning on a visit back just for going to the Brownlee Arms again. Before it was the Brownlee Arms, it was a rundown pub that was lacking in atmosphere or quality. Then it turned into the Brownlee Arms and it was my fave local for not only going for a drink but also lunch and dinner. It's pet-friendly too which is a bonus. They let your well behaved dog sit with you in the bar area opposite the bar which has ample space for dining.

Enjoyable bank holiday meal with the family. Hadn’t booked, but were told it was no problem and shown to a table. Opted to just have mains given that other customers portions looked very generous. The Brownlee burger was full of flavour, and the chunky chips are some of the best I’ve ever had. The wife had the moules and frites and thoroughly enjoyed it. Decent kids portions too for my daughter (10). Excellent friendly atmosphere. Nice and clean. Only gripes are the drinks are a bit pricey (£5.70 for a Neck Oil), but we expected that. Will be back again soon hopefully!

On entry the food side of the place looked ok, although a chef sat at a table doing his admin was a bit weird. We were just calling for a drink and the part where we sat was grubby, dark and seemed to have attracted some dubious indigenous locals who to be fair we have seen before. There always seems to be dogs in this part and particularly unpleasant is having them up on the furniture.’, or on laps with their chins on the table. This is supposed to be a professional eatery and part of a supposed pub group with good standards. This place lets them down. Oh and gents are filthy and need redecorating. Won’t be going back.

Went here for Sunday lunch but found it disappointing. The soup was delicious but a small portion. The main was luke warm - this was really annoying because we waited 25 mins and it wasn’t very busy. Cold Yorkshire puddings are not very appetising. It was however very good of the staff to knock off the price of 2 drinks by way of an apology. Booked a table for a New Year's Eve meal and had a horrible time. I normally love coming here as the food is delicious and the staff are really friendly but it really wasn't the case. No one asked once if the food was ok, not even when the plates were cleared and that's probably because my plate was full when it was cleared. The pate looked like actual dog food. The waitresses were actually too busy talking about their New Year's Eve plans which is fair enough as they look pretty young but it made being there a chore as all I could hear was the staff's conversations. Very disappointing and felt like a waste of money

Booked for a 1.30 lunch spot with a colleague as informed by a very helpful young man on the phone that booking was advisable at this time of year. This turned out to be prescient, as the place was absolutely packed when we arrived, so much so that parking was difficult and the few disabled parking spaces available were occupied by cars none of which was actually displaying a Blue badge. Nevertheless, service was excellent and surprisingly quick, given the numbers dining. The menu was varied and really well priced and our order quickly taken. Opting for roast beef in Yorkshire pudding from the sandwich menu seemed like a good choice when it arrived - plentiful and freshly prepared. Sadly however the beef was tough enough to sole one’s shoes and proved almost impossible to cut and chew, but the Yorkshire, chips and onion gravy were delicious.

I ate at the Brownlee Arms with family this week, and not for the first time. The service and food quality has been consistently good since my first visit in 2021, and we enjoyed another good meal there this time around. We got to the pub at 5.30pm, arriving earlier than planned due to earlier plans finishing sooner than expected. This was not a problem, and a friendly waitress was on hand to show us to our table. We were sat towards the back of the pub, close to but not in the extension, and the atmosphere was warm and pleasant. We were quickly given menus, both a regular menu and a Christmas fayre menu. As I have eaten here before I know the portion sizes are quite generous and there was no way I could eat three courses; I may be wrong, but it appears on the Christmas Fayre menu that ordering all three courses is the only option (for £31.95, it appeared quite reasonable if you've got the appetite). I opted for the Brownlee Burger, and other members of my family opted either for the Fish and Chips or the Pie of the Day (which on this occasion was chicken and ham). The first thing we all agreed upon was that the hand cut chips are lovely; it's nice to see pubs and restaurants that still put effort into their chips, and the Brownlee Arms is certainly one of these. Nicely done. My burger was a pleasant burger which had been cooked well; not well done and rubbery as is so often the case, and with a good range of additions which complemented the burger well. The fish and chips was well reviewed by a family member who considers himself quite discerning when it comes to a good fish, he had good praise for the batter. The chicken and ham pie was lovely; we all gave it a try, and the chicken was very tender and flavourful. A definite bonus that the pies are made with short crust pastry, and NOT puff pastry. The portions were, true to form, rather generous, and none of us managed to completely clear our plates- though some came very close! The service was friendly if a little slow- there did appear to be a lot of standing around and it took a bit of gesturing to put in another drinks order, but the service when received was polite and professional; the staff are kind and well presented, and actually seem quite pleased to be working there. Following the large but good quality mains, we were in no position to think about desserts. We ordered the bill, and for a main and two alcoholic drinks each it worked out at just over £20 a head; slightly on the expensive side of normal for a weekday meal out, but the quality made this feel justified. This will probably be the last time I'm in or around Horsforth for some time, but if I were to find myself in the area again, I would return.

Lovely looking place , and had high hopes for our first visit. Popped in for a cheeky lunchtime pint or two. Sadly a bit of a disaster. Firstly initial choice did a squirt of beer and then was off. 2nd choice morretti served in filthy glasses and condition collapsed. 2nd attempts not much better. All glasses clearly marked and needing renovating. Just take a look in the sunlight! Ended up pouring 5 pints of morretti to get 2 average beers. Such a shame as pub looked lovely and service friendly enough but marked service down for serving in dirty glasses. Only stayed for one in the end. Went to 3 Swords after and it was exemplary.

It doesn’t actually say what’s in it on the menu weirdly but it is beef. The beef is the blandest , chewiest , fattiest beef you could find. The Yorkshire pudding had no seasoning whatsoever so the whole dish just tastes of nothing. Such a shame as the staff are great & it’s so handy that it’s dog friendly too but the food is rubbish. Visited this pub/restaurant on the 24/September 2023. With my family for my 60th. Birthday, never in my life have I been served such processed cold food, mashed potatoes cold some plates didn’t have roast potatoes. Lamb looked like it was all the same sliced processed out of a bag. All the vegetables cold soggy. Service very slow & very sorry for the staff as they did apologise for us having such bad food & having to complain. Scotch egg for starters disgusting looked like it had just been cut in half & thrown on a plate not worth £8. Yorkshire puddings were microwaved & then told they had been put under grill to warm through, wet&soggy. What a way to spend my special birthday, so disappointed will never be going back what a waste of a day. How the brownlee brothers have managed to win gold medals eating this processed rubbish is beyond me, no nutrition on their Sunday roasts at all. 😩😩😩

When we arrived we was given a warm welcome and seated promptly, however drink order took a while to be taken however when taken drinks came fast. Food order was taken fast and food came out hot and was delicious however the service and the experience was shocking. We was constantly battling the flies that were around the table and when mentioned to one of the waitresses they had a little giggle and said “yeah I know there’s loads”, it’s not what you want especially when celebrating a birthday. There wasn’t even an apology! Since we was celebrating my mums 50th birthday we passed our server a cake we brought for her they seemed to forget about this, another waitress came over to the table and asked if we wanted anymore drinks after we finished and we asked for the cake to be brought out and the bill the bill arrived and then the cake, the woman then asked if it would be card or cash, as we was paying by card she said she would bring it over after the cake was brought out. When the cake came out the server came over put it down on the table and walked off, as a former hospitality worker it is expected the members of staff sing the guest and give them a good experience. We managed to eat the cake and sit there for another 10 minutes before we had to ask for the card machine. 2 of us was splitting the bill and that seemed to cause problems as the server struggled to split the bill and on the way out traced us down to pay the remaining 2p of the bill as she hadn’t split it properly. You would’ve thought since we was battling flies all afternoon the 2p would be forgotten about. A shame really as the food was beautiful and the duty manager seemed to be really good but the rest of the staff lacked training and any sort of customer service. We will not be returning!!!

Good selection of hearty fare with plentiful portions. Classics like burgers, steak and ale pie and fish cake are tasty and filling, with the fish cake given a nice twist with egg and spinach. We visited with babies and staff were helpful and friendly, held the door open for us on the way in and out (helpful when you have a pram!), checked if there was anything we needed like hot water for the babies and informed us that the breakfast menu would soon finish if we wanted to order off it, and that the lunch menu would start. Ordered off the breakfast/brunch menu which was extensive and well priced. I had the veggie breakfast which was well presented, well cooked and absolutely scrumptious. Portion size was really decent and kept me full for most of the day. It was very quiet when we arrived but got busier while we were there and lunch started being served. Lots of seating indoors and good accessibility with parking out front. I've lived in the area for years and have somehow never visited the Brownlee arms before now but will be sure to be back again.

Just went for a drink. Nice bar area and friendly staff. Good selection of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. It was a pleasant place to spend time.

This pub is lovely and the staff are great, but I do not expect frozen veg, not at an extra £4, frozen carrots are like rubber, come on Brownlee, serve fresh veg.

Really disappointed as I had heard rave reviews. My husband Ordered the fish and chips. The batter was so thick and burnt it was inedible. One you removed all the batter there was a teeny tiny piece of fish inside. The mushy peas tasted of...

I booked a table for 20 people for a meal the night before my wedding. The food was incredible- just as good as normal (we are regulars) even though it was for such a big group. All food came out at the same time- they...

Just enjoyed a Christmas meal here with 16 friends from my walking group. The food was excellent and really good value. The staff were friendly and very efficient, and coped well with the gluten free and dairy free requests. The conservatory is a bright, pleasant area to eat in, with lovely long distant views. I've also enjoyed plenty of Sunday roasts here, and will be back.
