The Cross Keys in Leeds

We came last night for the valentines menu and it did not disappoint, the upstairs was done out really nice and cosy, the food was incredible, each course was cooked to perfection and tasted unbelievable you could tell the ingredients used was great quality and that a lot of time, effort and attention went into each dish, it was fine dining at its best! Definitely be back!

Waited ages for meals,roast was ok,side order of cauliflower cheese 3 pieces overcooked @£6.50!….but sadly the sticky toffee pudding was very small dry and had a burnt taste…disappointing

This is a great pub in an area of Leeds I prefer. I would argue it is the right side of the tracks!! That is it is accessible by taking the station exit at the back of the station near platform 16 etc. Just go upstairs and follow the exit signs. The atmosphere is warm and cosy especially on cold days when the lovely wood stove is burning. The staff cannot be more helpful. There's a heated beer garden and the prices are very good for a city centre pub. We visit here before Leeds games and it is a great starting point as taxis only take 10 minutes to the game. Walking from here will take 30 minutes to Elland Road

Very pleasant pub in Holbeck, but only a 5 minute walk from the station. Stepping inside is a bit like stepping into a country pub. The building is very old, exposed beams, fireplaces etc. The range of beers is very good, keg offers Five Points and Kirkstall beers amongst many. The cask range is excellent including Leeds Brewery beers and guest beers. Food is good. Atmosphere is very pleasant and civilised. Plenty of helpful and attentive staff to assist.

Came in on Sunday with my family including a toddler and baby. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, 10/10 in terms of customer service The food was incredible, one of the nicest roast dinners I’ve had out in a while. Un pub muy cálido, acogedor y agradable con un ambiente muy terroso debido a la iluminación tenue y paredes de ladrillo expuestas. Los almuerzos del domingo son maravillosos y una fabulosa selección de vinos y cervezas, incluyendo cervezas locales. Después de solo tres visitas Chris el asistente del gerente recordó nuestros nombres, que fue increíble. Personal muy atento pero no hasta el punto de ser demasiado. Nos hemos enamorado de este lugar, tiene un zumbido y esperamos nuestra próxima visita, pero el personal realmente hace de este lugar un lugar especial. Servicio increíble Gracias chicos.

Went by accident after Northern Monk was unexpectedly closed - but what a find! Top quality Sunday roast, with side of cauliflower cheese, and a few local cask ales among a large beer selection. Was fairly busy but not too much so, with a nice atmosphere. Comfortable and the staff were attentive and friendly. Couldn’t ask for more.

Slow service but pleasant staff. Sunday Roast dinner basic and cheeseboard was small for the price with no fruit added. Nice atmosphere.

El Cross Keys es un lugar ideal lejos del centro de la ciudad para tomar una copa tranquila y ponerse al día con algunos platos de pub de buena calidad. No se puede equivocar con las salchichas (3) y el puré y no decepcionó, las salchichas tenían un buen sabor y el puré cremoso & ligero, la hamburguesa estaba cargada de delicioso tocino y las patatas fritas cocidas dos veces/trizas eran crujientes y ligeras, todo lo que se podía querer en una hamburguesa y patatas fritas para ser. ¡El Guinness fue servido con cuidado y sabroso bien y en absoluto acuoso como se obtiene en algunos establecimientos! El servicio era genial, nos preguntaron si queríamos otra ronda cuando los vasos estaban bajando, lo que fue muy apreciado. La música en vivo del viernes por la noche también fue agradable.

Amazing experience here, visited for a blues night recently and the Louisiana themed menu blew us away! Great night, awesome food and fantastic staff, what more do you need! Looking forward to going back to try the new menu!

Called in for a quick pint, guy behind the bar was welcoming and they have a good selection of beers on draught and bottles, including a good selection of Belgian beers. Will visit again if I'm in Leeds

Estábamos aquí por el cumpleaños de un familiar y era la segunda vez que mi esposo y yo viajábamos desde Manchester para cenar aquí. La comida era genial y el servicio era increíble 🎉🎉 Teníamos el Cordero y se cocinó a la perfección para nosotros ya que no nos gusta que nuestra carne esté sangrienta. Había dos filetes grandes de cordero. Demasiado para mi marido que también una pieza a casa. Tendrá una linda corbata de cordero para su cena 🎉🎉. No puedo esperar a volver para que otra familia se reúna 👍👍👍

Was here a few times pre and post the last few Northern Monk Hop and Dark city beer festival. Always great atmosphere and good selection of cask and draught beers. The staff were super helpful and made sure I got a taxi to my accommodation post Hop city yesterday. I haven't tried their food but I will next time I'm in Leeds.

Amazing Sunday lunch Revisited 21 April 2024, much quieter food quality wasn't as good and service wasn't as good

This is a great pub tucked in a side street. I actually went twice and had great vegan pub food both times. Very welcoming to visitors.

A good distance from the city center, less so from the main train station. So if you’re just arriving or waiting to head out on a train, this place is (maybe) worth the walk. A cool little pub in a clearly gentrifying area. Interior is rustic yet modern. They had only two of the four cask handles active. Not to mention at £5 a pint this was the most expensive beer during my Leeds trip. Service was spotty. The guy was friendly and welcoming. The Jersey Shore looking girl acted like she’d rather be anywhere else. Which is cool, just leave your laptop at home or maybe even stay home rather than bring your misery to work and project on other people.

Nice little pub to look at, BUT food was expensive and small portions. Plus the food came out only warm. Staff were friendly but service is very slow... probably won't visit again

We had some lovely Spanish food and the pub had a good vibe. Only one criticism, it was a little too dark for reading the menu.

We were visiting Leeds for 4 days and stopped in for dinner. We've had drinks here before on previous visits but never food. It didn't disappoint. Nothing fancy, just pie and mash chased with gin and tonics. Decent selection of cask and draft beers. Friendly service and clean toilets.

Delicious Sunday lunch. Great choices of traditional very well cooked roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with fresh hot vegetables and plenty of gravy. Also nice choice of tapas. The churros and chocolate sauce were a winner to finish off with. Fantastic choice of local beer also. Service from our waitress was also 1st class.

Stopped in for a beer on the way back from the football after taking a different walk to the station. Really glad we did, knew this place was here but often don’t go past so haven’t visited before. Lovey little pub, nice atmosphere and a fantastic selection of beers and wines too. We liked it so much we ordered a Sunday roast too! Nice beer dinner with the usual trimmings. Looks a small portion at first but the perfect size and all tasted delicious. Looking forward to visiting again

We booked into The Cross Keys for the first time. We went for Sunday lunch expecting the normal type of Sunday roast, but we were pleasantly surprised with what they had to offer. The chicken and pork accompanied by lovely vegetables were excellent, the sauces to go with each meat were also lovely. The staff were very good and made the overall experience great.

I've always used this pub as an "post-drinks" place for the Northern Monk beer festivals - Unassuming from the front of the pub, but never a disappointment for the reasons I visit, always has a great selection of beers on cask and various keg beers on offer, great selection of craft beers - especially a very well kept stock of Belgian Lambics if you fancy sharing a bottle with some friends. Staff are always welcoming and good for a chat when things are quiet. I've been there until closing a few times, and I would say the staff are definitely very patient with the beer nerds like me hanging around!! So thanks for that guys!! Good size beer garden out the back. I can't comment on the food as I've never ordered

Used to love this pub but the prices for beer are now astronomical. It’s genuinely cheaper in London.

I have been a few times over the years for Sunday lunch and generally really happy with the food and atmosphere. This time, I was disappointed with the food. The starter was luke warm, and the Yorkshire puddings just looked like they were shop bought rather than freshly made (Aunt Bessie style - just bigger). Expected a bit more.

I work in the area so occasionally come to cross keys after work when looking for a drink. Lovely big beer garden. For some reason more often than not when passing by the pub is quite empty with a surplus of staff milling about. When interacting the staff are not overly chatty / friendly, and give the impression you’ve interrupted their group chat with their colleagues. Cat was always lovely, and it’s a shame she’s left now. When the pub is busy it’s a lot more comfortable to pop in for a drink (as it doesn’t feel like you’re in there on your own with 6 members of staff) and it is really a lovely pub from a decor point of view. Food is ok- not blown away, but ok if you’re looking for something to go with your drink. Popped in last year and ordered and was charged incorrectly, and was told ‘whoops we gave you an old menu- we’ve upped our prices now’, and I wasn’t given the option of cancelling my order as a result- which I was a bit disappointed by. Would definitely keep my eye next time when ordering food re the cost, but appreciate perhaps that was a one off. Overall it’s nice enough if you go in at a peak time, as it gets a bit busy but never as busy as the other local pubs (midnight bell, water lane boathouse), so you can generally always find somewhere to sit. Has a good selection of beers. I’d come back, but it wouldn’t be my first choice in the area. Hopefully once summer picks up so will the general feeling of the pub.

The food was good, drink selection was fine, but it felt a bit like we were troubling the bartender for service. And the place wasn't all that busy. I would give it another go though, maybe we were there on an off night.

The typical English pub, where to go for a beer or a Sunday roast. I have been here several times with friends and alone. The music is simply great, as well as the selection of beers. Food is not just pub food, you can also find vegetarian options. Close to the station and the city centre, it always pleases me and my friends...

Ordered the pork sandwich it doesn't state anywhere on menu about black pudding. I HATE black pudding. Sandwich came with more black pudding than pork. Crackling was just a white deep fried crisp. Curried lamb pie barely any meat in it, filled with chicken peas.

i don't think it's any surprise that the ales/beers in here are absolutely spot on. but i just wanted to shout about the pies, too! this was one of the hot pies that they serve at the bar as opposed to something from the menu. it was absolutely gorgeous. ended-up having one with my first pint & another with my second! (steak & then chicken). really beautiful flavoursome pie, packed with fillings. a match-day essential if you're heading to elland road!

Nice venue for a tech meetup this week, friendly staff but ended up paying £25 for a main and two pints, only realising later :/

Great beer and wine selection. Great pub environment. Strangely, there is no printed beer list, so you either have to know what they have or ask if there are beers available that are not immediately obvious. They really need an up to date beer and wine list.

I had a lunchtime meeting here with a colleague and the guys were so accommodating. Really good range of drinks, I mean really good. Lunch menu has a great little variety of dishes and the quality was spot on. Would highly recommend!

As I read from another review online: Great Pub, Average Grub. The Cross Keys has a lot of charm and character, with a wide variety of drink selection and tentative staff. However, our Sunday Roast was, regrettably, disappointing. All four of our meals were rather cold, and the portion sizes left a lot to be desired. One meal only came with one parsnip and a small amount of cabbage. The meat portion sizes were also small for the prices asked. Hopefully this was a one off, as this lovely pub has so much potential!

The food was appalling. The Caesar salad was vile - hardly any chicken drowning in mayonnaise ( no Caesar sauce) and nothing fresh. Horrible and gristly Korean burger over-spiced. Can’t believe we stayed to eat.

Great pub restaurant with very relaxed courtyard behind. Atten ded a private dinner party upstairs on a Saturday evening. Great food, pre-selected from good options, friendly staff and responsive service, and generally a relaxed vibe. Next time I ll take the train as Leeds Station is so close to Water Lane!!!
