Tom Foolery in Leeds

The biggest asset here seems to be the staff who worked hard and remained cheerful despite being one team member short.( I presume) We sat at table 8 before ordering from the bar - and had our order delivered to table 5. Later, when we ordered again, we were told that we were sat at table 5 - even though the disc on the table said 8! We had poached eggs on toast which were fine and sweet chilli chicken sandwich which was not as it really lacked chicken. Not worth the £12 paid, despite the finely crumbled crisps on the accompanying salad! I tried to pay with cash - but was told ‘card only’ though didn’t see any sign to that effect. A further note on the theme of communication. The Gents toilets were down some steps, at basement level. So why put the ‘out of order - use upstairs (disabled) toilet’ notice on the door rather than at the top of the stairs?

Called in for a brew and toast. Not impressed a lovely place, brew good. 15 minute wait for toast and as I was asking at the bar the waitress walked past, iasked if that was ours and she completely ignored me. Wouldnt bother again

Tom Foolery has been supported by my family from its early days under the professional eye of Marcus Emadi . During Covid Marcus changed the image regularly from a deli, superb takeaway and genuinely supported the Boston community . Sadly , of late, it seems to be slipping on the finer details….no napkins or cutlery ……smiley staff but very obviously under pressure ……..food not quite so spot on . In Boston there in now more choice ….please don’t let your standards slip. You have a large and loyal group of customers !

Superb menu. We were surprised what is classed as South American. Some lovely flavours. Great food and service. A well run local restaurant with a great chef. A super compliment to the many other restaurants in the village.

The food was tastey but was disappointed by the portion size for the price- A small sandwich, few bits of salad and 4 crisps for £14.

I went with my sister in law, I had £50 voucher and was told after ordering food I had to use it all in one visit which is impossible for brunch, which wasn't good, beans were cold, they wouldn't do my sister in law poached egg on toast as she don't like sourdough yet I got toast with my breakfast, the service was terrible no smiles had to fetch own cutlery and sugar, would never go again. Now means I wasted £30 on voucher

So glad we went. We called in today (Thursday 30th May) for brunch. Really enjoyed the whole experience, the food was really good and the service was spot on. I don't usually write a review but the negativity within the reviews on here did not reflect the experience we had so I felt compelled to the relay the positive one we had. Have an open mind and give it a try.

Accepted only very little choice of food left at 2.45 but very ungraciously served and had to ask for sauces and go up and collect own cutlery No option to add even a lettuce leaf Very noisy.

It's a nice pub with a good selection of beers, although I came for brunch and didn't have beer. Full English breakfast was good but not great. I could taste that the poached eggs were cooked in vinegar, they came out looking good but had a slight tang to them. Mushrooms are cooked in garlic, which is a bit of an overpowering taste on breakfast in my opinion. They did offer to let me swap the mushrooms, which was nice, so I swapped for an extra slice of toast (very nice bread, too). Bacon was thin and fatty, I like a nice thick rasher, even better if grilled rather than fried. I would come back to try the pizza in an evening, if I'm out this way. Update: I've been in for breakfast a couple more times; the bacon was a bit thicker and the poached eggs were much better. I've increased the food score a bit. I do still miss having plain mushrooms though.

This potentially a very nice place to visit for a drink & food, it has a nice atmosphere. However if you can’t get a simple bowl of French fries right then you’re in trouble. We ordered a pint & a coffee which were produced in good time as were the fries but no knapkins , no forks, no side plates. The small bowl was full & as we picked at the fries they tended to fall onto the sticky table. Not great

Polly is the is the supreme master of service with a gorgeous smile and manner.. Totally on top of everything at the bar and does the job of 3 dimwits at Wetherspoon's. I hope she is on £30 an hour as she does 3 jobs at once.

No hot drinks available when we arrived. Disappointed as mother in law had made the effort to walk all the way into the village.

It used to be a lovely, family and dog friendly place to call in for lunch or coffee, early dinner etc. Not today. The service was awful. Even though it wasn’t busy nobody came over to clear the table before we sat down so we did that ourselves. No hot drinks available as it was the wrong time of day. The woman behind the bar was short on patience, difficult, unhelpful and certainly not an asset to Tomfoolery. The dog friendliness was non existent. I asked for a water bowl and was told to look for one myself. Barking isn’t tolerated. We were warned we’d have to leave if it continued. It didn’t, but if you accept dogs and are happy to take their owners money, then you have to compromise here. We definitely won’t be back after today.

Very poor service, took 40 mins to place an order for 4 meals then 3 arrived 30 mins later, they had forgot mine had to wait another 30 mins then the food was cold will never set foot in the place again plus its very expensive very very poor. Marvin & Friends.

Collected a large 16 pizza order from these guys via Just Eat. Staff were pretty cool & they worked hard to fulfil our order on time. Didn't have a drink, but this place looks pretty cool for a night out.

We met two friends here at eleven during twixmas, the place was very very busy with the addition of a christening party downstairs. We waited over ten minutes stood at the bar to place our order! There was only one staff member serving alcohol and taking orders, eventually another staff member came to take orders. She said drinks would be another fifteen minutes, however she didn’t mention that the food would be a further half hour after that! We had therefore finished our drinks before the food arrived. The bacon sandwich was lukewarm, the sausage ones were hotter and all the brioche bun tops were verging on being burnt. We do not live locally and had found this establishment as a convenient place to meet friends from afar. Needless to say we will not be returning, which is a shame, because if the management staffed the place adequately then I feel sure that all our concerns could be rectified.

I went in last night and my cousins id got denied by the managed “holly”. Absolutely ridiculous. Everyone els was absolutely fine but hers. She’s 18years old she had her bank card, online banking, social media and still wasn’t okay? What more do you need to prove an id is real? Absolutely ridiculous when we are in there every weekend and there’s never been a problem before. She threatened everyone’s id to be taken off them even tho we’re over 18. Sort her out. She’s rude.

All the bacon eaters were disappointed at how overdone the bacon was when it arrived. Ordered a sandwich from the menu which stated fries were included in the price, but at the point of sale I was asked if I wanted standard crisps or to upgrade to fries for an additional fee. When I pointed to the menu and queried why I had to pay extra for something already included I was told things have changed and they are waiting for new menus from the printers and they can’t honour the current menu because the till has already been set up for crisps only. The manager confirmed the same, shrugged his shoulders and said there’s nothing he can do, despite being a director of the company. A case of ‘computer says no’ and a director who clearly values the small cost of a few chips over any repeat custom ever from myself and my friends. Some people just aren’t cut out for working with the public and have no concept of the meaning of customer service. The website menu hasn’t been updated either and is exactly the same as the menu I was given where it clearly states that the sandwich comes with house fries. Ps; Dear manager, please don’t bother to respond as I’ve already seen the shrugging shoulders and heard the weak explanation and would rather not hear any more.

Very very expensive for what we had poor quality food service slap dash to busy chatting so I’m afraid we certainly won’t be going back, It’s so overpriced.

Tom Foolery is a great place, it caters for a wider audience - fab coffee and/or lunch place in day and by night a nice bar with great food with a drink or two… Friday/Saturday it provides a place we can dance with good DJs. However what has blown it away was how great quiz night was last night! We often did another pub quiz in village on Mondays but our heads have been turned. See you soon TF! We even won £50 bar tab…. Loving life

We have been going to Tom's for quite a number of years now. We love this bar as its not only on our doorstep (Bonus) it has a great atmosphere, its friendly, serves good food and a wide variety of specialist beers, cocktails and drinks, we love it because our two dogs Holly & Pheobe love this place also. It's quite rare to find a bar now that make your dogs feel just as welcome as you. Nathan & Mark and all the staff, thank you, we look forward to our weekends, its' such a great place to visit.

Some days / early evenings its a lovely relaxing atmosphere but then others there is no where to sit as the bar / restaurant insists on having seating for 4/6/8 with high tables dotted around with most taken up with couples who are not willing to move their handbags or worse dogs!!! The manager seems to find it acceptable to let owners sit their muddy pawed dogs on seats that are fabric (booths for 6-8 that sometimes only have 2 people sat there with their dogs) & leather seats that are not wiped down after dogs have been sat on them. There is a couple who's dogs have baby talc all over their bottoms sat on seats that customers who are nicely dressed for the evening have to sit on. The young manager also lets a group of boys sit vaping all the time they are there without batting an eyelid... Could the owner invest in smaller lower tables, take the awful 2 booths out and replace with probably 12 tables for 2 along with the 3 high tables which could be replaced with more seating options??? Salt just up the road is cleaner(no dogs allowed on seats) slightly cheaper with a better atmosphere. Toms is definitely going down hill which is a shame. Why have that unusable silly sparkly booth in the corner taking up space??? Do the owners not realise customers are walking out because of lack of tables??? More seats for 2, if the groups are larger there is option to put together.

I have been to the pub many times and recommended it to others, never again will go her for food. Absolutely terrible in every way service and quality it was absolutely dreadful. My sister is a celiac and we checked twice to make sure everything she had chosen was good for her and we were told it was, but her mouth still swelled up as a result, my friend was sick all night. The standard of service and quality has drastically gone down hill never again.

Had my daughters baby shower here Saturday afternoon and had a super time. The downstairs room was cosy with the most comfortable chairs. Staff were extremely helpful and food and drinks were great. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

We have enjoyed visiting Tom Foolery regularly for the past 4 years. The place has a great feel and we enjoy a light meal and a bottle of wine. We don't have a big appetites so sharing a pizza and fries with a bottle of wine was ideal. Very happy on our previous visit as the house red was only £16 compared to the usual £19. This week we were very disappointed to find the wine back up to £19 a bottle and Pizzas no longer on the menu. We chose a vegan sharer at £26 which was 90% chips and little else. Bill should have been £45 but charged £46. Will not be going again.

We were stopping in the area and fancied a quiz , we moved tables as not much room. And then the quiz host started insulting is so we left . He was unprofessional and you never make people want to leave a venue . He insulted us over the mic , as well as swearing a lot , fing and blinding . We want a nice night out , but don’t go to this place as the host is a idiot who thinks he is funny and is rude and I would never go back to this place , my partner was going to have a go at him , but I persuaded him to leave it , as he made us feel awful . Stay well away .

We stopped here for lunch today, we were lucky to get a table when we did as it was super busy. There were 2 women serving & they were really run off their feet but they were polite & smiling. The food was nice we had poached eggs and a sandwich, and coffee which was good! I feel like some of the reviews before are harsh - yes understaffed but they turned up for work and served as quick as they could! 2 members of staff on the floor is minimal! We were just passing after a walk so probably won’t be back but give this place a chance, the bar decor is great and the food good - if they get more staff then it’ll be back on track!

It's been a while since I have been for food and drink at Tom Foolery. It maybe the same again. Popped in for lunch on a Monday. It was quite busy but still places available. Nice bustle about the place. Only two of us, we were sat down a good 10 minutes before anyone approached us. We weren't in a hurry, so no bother. When we had our order taken by the man, he wasn't engaging, didn't look enthusiastic and well, just miserable. The food was nice and coffee too. We ordered extra coffee's later and it was very slow service to get them. By this point the place was quiet so not sure why the delay. Come on TF, you can do better. A smile and some enthusiasm goes a long way.

What has happened to this place? We like to have a trip out on Sundays and stumbled on this place a few years ago and always enjoyed our visits. The staff were always polite, friendly, attentive and well dressed. The food was different and interesting and it had a nice vibe. I was looking for somewhere to take my mum and my partner for their birthday this weekend and as my mum had never been, thought it would be a good place to visit. Their website says there is no need to book but as it was a double birthday and it’s about an hour or so drive, I thought I’d call to see if we could book a table. Called up explained that it was a double birthday, travelling far, wanted a table as we were going to eat etc. helpful guy said that there would be no need to book and there were two floors so I was happy that we’d get a table. On the website it says there are two menus, brunch until 3, and then the afternoon/evening menu. We thought the afternoon menu sounded better for what we were after so arrived at 2.30 to get settled and choose what we wanted. Arrived, hung around the bar to see if we could have any table, nobody bothered to acknowledge us, so we found a table. Went to the bar waited, waited, then finally was told by the lady behind the bar she’d be with us after she’d finished serving other drinks. Then it was our turn. Told they weren’t doing food, I explained that I’d called the week before and not told that. Shrug of shoulders, then she said that even if they were serving food it doesn’t start until 4.30. I explained that the website says 3, another shrug of shoulders. Drinks ordered and I had a bottle of AF beer. Asked for a pint glass for it, was handed a warm half pint glass by a very disinterested looking young man, I asked if I could have a cold glass, slight sigh from him as he searched for one. We returned to our seats to enjoy a cacophony of sounds from screaming kids running wild. My partner visited the toilets but there was no soap or hand wash. Like another reviewer has said, it’s a place run by disinterested kids without any management/supervision. Won’t be returning which is a shame.

Dropped into Tom Foolery this afternoon with the intention of having lunch. Left waiting in the doorway for over 5 minutes next to the sign saying "Wait to be Seated", only ended up getting a table when we alerted a member of staff who knew we were waiting but did her best to avoid eye contact. The member of staff just pointed to a table across the room and said "you can sit there" W sat waiting for another 20 minutes and no one even came to the table to take a drinks order or hand us a menu. The place was far from busy, must have be no more than 20 people in there. In the end we decided to leave, don't think the staff even noticed or were bothered!! This place looks like it is being run by kids with not a manger or anyone in a position of responsibility taking charge. What a shame, won't be returning!!

It’s just ok. Not amazing but not bad. Burger, fries and a couple of pizza slices. Have had much better from here but the last few times have just been ok - a relatively expensive ok. Will give it a miss next time

Have wanted to go to this place for years as it looks lovely. I can't even remember what I ate it made such little impression. Oh, a vegetarian chilli bean something or other. It appeared within minutes of being ordered which suggested that the microwave had been free. It tasted very artificial and the rice, packet, although I'm sure it wasn't. This was the sort of food that I hate as it tastes of nothing and is unpleasant in texture. This place promised so much because of its look and style, which is funky, but I would leave the food for another time; probably never.

Just had a takeaway delivery. Pizza loaded fries dip and a bottle of larger. Worst takeaway I have ever had won’t be buying another from there. Cold tasteless and really inedible and was not cheap

Really nice place to grab a coffee or breakfast (only have been in the morning). The food was quite pricey for where and what it was, but tasted really nice and was presented well all the same. The place is really baby and dog friendly. May seem odd to say a place is baby friendly, but the couple I went with found the staff were super accommodating to their babies needs.

Never eaten Sunday lunch here before, and decided to make a last minute booking. We were really pleasantly surprised, delicious soup and roast dinner. Good service and really exceptional value at 2 courses for £20. We will certainly be back!

Went here for brunch yesterday, staff were all new for the day, they handled it fantastically and we had a great experience! Food was absolutely brilliant, drinks were all fine, orders were all correct and we loved the decor. Dog friendly so well worth a visit. We will return.

TF as we refer to it locally is a brilliant coffee shop/bar/restaurant. It has its own special identity with a genuine, inviting warmth which welcomes everyone.

I went on both Saturday and Sunday and found the service on Saturday a little hit and miss. Sunday was much better. I have been many times before and the service was very good, so maybe they were just having an off day. The food is always excellent!

Stopped off for brunch ... put in a back room ,evan though empty seating in main part . Girl who served was pleasant. Lovely tea/coffee My " Garlic Mushroom " on sour dough /poached egg was average ..Mushrooms were garlicky but dry and shrivelled up , egg yolks were over cooked and the couple of tiny strands of crispy onion obviously come out of a jar ....so a little disappointed .

First time at this bar as it was recommended to us by a friend from Wetherby. We had pre booked a table a week in advance for our visit, only to be just shoved on any old table and had to queue at the bar to order food rather than table service when we were put in the basement area and forgotten about. The girls at the bar were lovely though, lovely wee blonde girl served me and she was very helpful. However, the wait for those pizzas...boys and girls do not even bother ordering food here because we waited over an hour for 3 pizzas and a garlic bread, the other couple in the table across from us had been waiting 40 minutes. Overall it was very overhyped for allegedly being one of the more popular bars of Boston Spa. I could have fed an army quicker.

Called into Tom Foolery for a drink as passing through Boston Spa and loved the place. Definitely will be visiting again.

Went yesterday hadn't booked, was told only 1 table left by the window. Not true. A number of tables remained vacant whilst we were there. Was brought a reduced menu which we totally understand. No notice of this outside though and the veggie breakfast description outside is actually meat. Ordered from menu then we were asked to pay immediately as they run a pay as you go system. We said didn't want to pay until we'd eaten to know if it was any good. We were then asked why did we want drinks with our meal ? We said so we could eat and drink.We were told reluctantly they would bring drinks with the meal On this occasion as it was so quiet. Odd then when at the beginning we were told only 1 table left. Food arrived and a side order was missing. They said there was a mistake with it going through the till and the side order would be brought shortly. Meal finished and still no side order arrived. Decided to go and went to pay. Had to remind them to take the missing side order off the bill. We were going to have coffee and cake for dessert but cakes all out on display with no covers on and lots of wasps. Experience was poor, food medoicre, whole experience bizarre! Won't be going back.
