We’ve been coming here on and off for ages if we’re in the area and the Cafe is really really nice, but…. I think they are missing a trick, the dining area is huge, nicely done out with tasteful furnishings and a fabulous outdoor area but they just don’t seem to have a very extensive menu anymore for the facilities available to them. I also agree with other reviews that it seems a bit of a rip off to have to pay extra on top of £7.95 for a ciabatta roll for a salad garnish or a few chips it makes it quite expensive. Also the menu is very small, no cooked meals beyond a quiche or steak pie. Get a full English on and a few ‘family favourites’ you’d make a killing ! The other odd thing is you can’t order the salad garnish or chips till 11:30, I can’t imagine what they’re doing that’s so busy they can’t serve those till 11:30, there’s no ‘change over’of menu going on that I can see. It’s such a lovely , busy place and quality ingredients that if they did Sunday lunches they’d do so well, as I said before , full English , family favourites etc maybe even an occasional bistro night ! Of course we’ll still visit , it just baffles us as to why it’s such a basic menu, my husband is a chef and he says it everytime ‘they’re missing a massive trick in here’ !

Stopped off for some lunch whilst in the area. Nice selection of quality food, ie pulled pork sausage rolls, italian rolls with tasty fillings, quiche & homemade pies. Opted for a huge cherry & a cheese scone, both were delicious. Nice clean huge dining area. Decent prices too.

Absolutely dire! The service was abysmal with bad tempers behind the counter, the food( actually I ended up with a cold croissant that was as dry as a lump of concrete!) the coffee was cold and thrown onto a saucer , the dining room was loaded to the gunnels with tables waiting to be cleared, though while I tried to eat a rock hard croissant someone did finally start to clear the tables. The prices are sky high and the actual garden centre would fit on a postage stamp it’s so small and crammed with exorbitantly high products. Then the ladies loo, Disgraceful, with cleaned loos, hand drier that refused to work I leave the rest to your imagination, basically don’t go there.

This used to be lovely place to come. Since it’s been taken over it has really gone downhill with the price and quality. I ordered an Italian sandwich and was expecting something nice for the price. What I got was basically a service station style sandwich, it was just missing the plastic container (At least I was saving the environment which is the only positive). In the lovely small print if you want garnish with a little bit of coleslaw it was an extra £1.20 if you then also order chips it’s £3.50 for what I would call a regular size but f you went to a McDonalds. The one thing I will say is the staff has always been friendly and that’s the only positive I can give.

First visit to this garden centre and we arrived late afternoon desperate for a coffee & cake. The cafe was still open & we got coffees, a delicious carrot cake & a piece of brown & blonde brownie. Staff were lovely & a little error on our order was swiftly & generously resolved by Leo. All the staff we met in cafe were lovely. Unfortunately we didn't leave long enough to thoroughly explore all garden centre but I know my friend bobbed back following day, she said to buy some garden furniture she had seen, but I reckon it was for another slice of carrot cake. We had a puppy with us and were very grateful dogs are allowed in garden centre & on patio area of cafe.

Poor new menu, all the most popular items have been removed sadly and portion sizes reduced! No prawns or egg mayonnaise, no chips with salad and less ham. Shame after coming here since cafe first opened and always returned almost weekly for one prawn and one ham salad which both came with chips on a large plate. Certainly gone downhill in the last few months- why?

This place has been a 'go to' venue for our family for many years. Disappointed today to see that the portion sizes have been reduced, and the prices seem to have gone up. Smaller plates make it look like you are still getting a lot but the salad portions are reduced and chips (which used to be included) are now extra. £40 for lunch for 3 (and we only had 1 course each) makes this an expensive family lunch out.

I've previously visited the cafe for coffee and cake, but this time a whole group of us wanted to meet, for a meal, and we are coming from some distance to convene there. I wanted to reserve a table - the group haven't seen each other for a long time, and how dire if we arrived and had to sit scattered about. The man I spoke to was unfriendly and unco-operative. Impossible to book. We don't do that. Plenty of room and so on. I explained why I was asking, but he really didn't care. So as we couldn't guarantee we could all sit together, the cafe has lost 12 customers who would have bought lunch, and no doubt shopped at the Garden Centre before and after. Another garden centre was superb, and booked a table for us immediately, in a very friendly manner. What a shame.

Came here for breakfast with my partner having recently bought a holiday home nearby.Firstly, this is a dog friendly place which is excellent as we will always holiday with the pooch. There is a seperate section of the cafe for those who would prefer to not dine with doggies present. We went to the cafe for breakfast, so we were a little disappointed to find a very limited menu. With little choice on offer, we ordered two bacon sandwiches which were tasty and generously filled, but extremely expensive. I completley understand about having to scale back due to C19, so I look forward to enjoying a larger choice and hopefully better value for money in the months ahead. There are no indications that cash won't be accepted anywhere in the garden centre, but when I tried to pay at the till in the cafe with cash I was (politely) asked if I could pay by card as there wasn't enough cash in the till. This needs attention, either accept cash and be fully prepared or don't accept cash at all.The garden centre itself is nicely laid out, has a wide selection and seems reasonably priced. We will go back.

You can usually tell a decent cafe / restaurant by the number of customers and Thirsk Garden Centre Coffee Shop has always been well populated whenever we have visited. Although they serve pretty good coffee it’s more than a coffee shop as they have a realistic menu for lunches. Today they had choice of three soups, each chock full of imaginative ingredients and served with crusty bread and choice of butter or spread. Seating is at large tables with plenty of room and wicker armchairs. You are given an electronic device at service check-out and take this to your table to alert the waiting service when it’s time to bring out the food. There’s an adequate supply of clean cutlery and serviettes and an astonishing array of sauces / preserves you can spoon into small dishes and take back to your table. Service was fairly quick.

Needs some improvement. Quite an extensive menu but staff not very understanding of dietary needs. Despite specifically asking for no spread on our kids’ sandwiches due to dairy intolerance, both arrived with butter. They did replace them but it felt rather awkward. Then husband’s cinnamon toast (which is on their vegan menu) arrived buttered too! He felt too awkward to return it since this is a life choice rather than an intolerance for him but why should we be made to feel uncomfortable? They have a vegan menu, so surely their staff should be made aware and their ordering process streamlined so kitchen staff are easily informed when orders are placed. Clearer allergen info on their menu would be helpful too. Also dairy free/vegan cake options and children’s options are very much lacking. Seemingly they are more dog friendly than child friendly, since their kids’ area has all but vanished. The eating area was very hot and uncomfortable to eat in. Food arrived quickly however and was quite nice. Moderately priced.

Displays are all attractive and well laid out. Plants are thoughtfully grouped and labelled with suggestions such as “plants for windy and exposed areas”. Cafe is great, with a varied menu, and toilet facilities are smart and clean. Plenty of free parking. Highly recommended!

I come to the coffee shop regularly (once a week on average) and I’ve never had a bad experience. All of the food is lovely (the soup is delicious) and the cakes and scones are superb. The service is friendly and the food is at your table before you know it.

This is a popular place to eat on the outskirts of Thirsk, very close to the A19 York Road and A168 from the A1. They serve a range of home cooked meals, cakes, and coffees/teas. If you go regularly it is worth getting the loyalty card which gives a discount on return visits. No problems parking and there is always plenty of space as it is very large, but warm and comfortable. In good weather there is a nice garden for children to play out and a terrace with tables.

Excellent coffee, good to take dogs to. One large area inside and one outside where you can sit and eat with your dog. Another area inside for people who prefer not to have dogs around. Good arrangement and good food.

This is a regular place for trips with elderly Mother and until recently it's delivered good food with good service but in the last few months it's disappointed, with dry bread served with the soup, small portion sizes and an overall feeling that it's expensive for what you get. £7.50 for a beef sandwich made in sliced bread with a small portion of chips and a very very small 'salad'.

We visited here today,on our way for a walk around Thirsk and the white horse,My husband ordered a breakfast for £6-95 and I ordered an agg, bacon and sausage sandwich,Both with a cup of tea,We've eaten this type of food at other places, but we were really impressed,All the ingredients were fresh and not catering food,The eggs were poached and not fried,The sausages were very tasty,My sandwich had a bread bap that was slightly toasted and my sandwich had plenty of bacon and sausage,With a poached egg on that too,I'm not joking,it was the best sandwich ever,We'd definately return there again

It was a Saturday and very busy. The service was run efficiently and the choice of food reasonably wide. All pulled together by a smiling, cheerful staff.

We went with grandma and grandad to see Father Christmas and lunch...lunch was not bad really and reasonably priced. Santa’s grotto was pretty good, having the reindeer there is a great idea. And a big thank you to Father Christmas for being so good with our 18 month old boy who just cried.

Visited today haven't been for a while. Really disappointed. Noisy. Tables dirty. Lots of children shouting and crying. Food was mediocre. Always been good in the past so felt very let down. On the positive side the reindeer were lovely!

After visiting this Garden Centre Coffee Shop for a few years and enjoying their Gammon, Eggs and Chips, we were disappointed to find that they were no longer on the menu! Instead we had Whitby Scampi and Chips. My wife had a smaller portion of 5 for £6.25 and I had a standard portion of 9 for £9.25. The meals were delicious.

Used to enjoy coming here for Sunday lunch when it was a proper roast with great veg. Now it is just the same average menu as any other day. Much fewer customers than previously - not surprisingly.

Three different sections to the coffee shop allows outdoor seating or a choice of two roms to sit and chat in. Underfloor heating in the main lounge area is a treat in winter.Go here on a regular basis.Very relaxing.

This local garden centre has extended over the years and carries so many interesting pieces for your home and garden. Seasonal changes allow them to offer delights that are different from shops around locally. Helpful assistants will answer questions if needed. The Christmas is a delight and well worth a visit( photos will follow at the end of the year). This was a delicious salad and dessert. Usually love the lemon cake but that has been missing the last 2 visits...maybe just my bad luck. Table arrangements and how you were served ie decide on a table then queue up...were so much better. If you didn’t have a coat to place on the chair chances are you would return and it was gone! My visit was great!
