I visited on a Friday night, as part of a group of 8. Shortly after sitting down, we placed our order and it did take a very long time to come. That’s the only negative point though. The waiting staff were fantastic, the beer was great and the food as even better. I didn’t order a starter but had the Mexican Chicken Parma, served with chips and Cole slaw. It was a very generous portion, well cooked, extremely tasty and a real pleasure to eat. I enjoyed it so much that we have already decided to return for a Sunday Lunch. Highly recommended!

Really pleased we chose to have lunch here, we had friends up from Leeds , so there were 4 of us. My husband and I are very particular and have very high standards and this place didn’t disappoint! The food was freshly cooked and very generous portions, the host / owner was very friendly and attentive, the staff were great.. omg the home made sticky toffee pudding was delish, with lashings of toffee sauce, the whole meal was impressive, our friends said they would drive back up just to eat there, can they improve on anything? ? Well the wording on the menu didn’t do the food justice , we couldn’t believe our eyes when the plates arrived , will be going again without a doubt….

Visited for Sunday lunch after a recommendation from neighbours. A beautiful short drive from Middlesbrough making a perfect Sunday run out. The Coores Arms is a warm and welcoming country pub, excellent service and delicious food - excellently presented. Reasonable prices for really good, proper home cooked food. Though busy, we weren’t waiting long and the staff maintained friendly and attentive. Our son was made extremely welcome and he loved his fish dinner! Will definitely be back to try and eager to try their regular dining menu.

We were greeted to the venue with a very warm welcome, our 2 daughters instantly feeling comfortable and able to be themselves. I ordered pate and I have to say, it was outstanding, red onion marmalade WOW!!! I opted for Mexican parmesan and it did not disappoint! The portions were plentiful and the salsa and jalapeños just made it!! In fact the whole family loved the day sooo much, the Mrs even managed another pint before the kids realised we were going home. Service was amazing, polite and quick to attend to us. No complaints what so ever! Not usually somewhere we usually pass by but from the service, quality of food and the quality of a good pint we had I would recommend 100% and for that reason we will be back.

Was out and about with friends and decided we wanted a Sunday lunch, and came across The Coore Arms but chance - but we will be back. You know it’s going to be good when you walk in, the staff ask if you have a table booked and when you say no, they look worried. Luckily, another group were just leaving. We couldn’t have asked for more! We left stuffed, with generous portions of home cooked food being served. Pate to start was enough to share! The Sunday roast was spot on (top tip: ask for all the meats). The beef was my favourite, fresh and still blushing. Tasty gravy like my gran used to make and freshly cooked vegetables aplenty. To boot, we got a decent pint! Definitely recommend!

Had some lovely food here previous but the Sunday lunch today was a bit average really. We were met the moment we walked in and seated immediately. Drinks and food order taken relatively quick too. 3 of us had the Sunday roast and found it adequate. Not bad - not amazing. I had the fish and chips. The chips and mushy peas were good - proper mushy peas - but the fish was a huge let down. It was a frozen piece from a packet ( fish fillets aren’t usually triangular with perfect flat sides ). Come on - use a proper fish fillet , dip it in your own batter and fry it. If you want to know how to do it pop down the road to the Black Horse in Kirby Fleetham and take notes. I’ve had better fish from Iceland and I’m being totally honest there. After finishing we waited an eternity for the plates to be collected - we had to ask. The great service seamed to have dwindled a bit. 1 other down side was we were sat very near the “ attention “ bell for the kitchen to alert the waiting staff that a dish was ready to take out. Very annoying as they just didn’t ping it once - they ping ping ping pinged it. God knows what the couple sat under it thought ? Maybe a different way could be thought up. Wouldn’t rush back I’m afraid.

Usually have a Sunday lunch here and it has always been lovely. As it was a special occasion (sisters 70th birthday) she wanted to go for lunch, so we booked. We stipulated that we had dogs so on arrival we’re put on a table which was very close to another table (which was occupied) and not enough room for the dogs to lie down. We asked if we could move to another table (only 3 tables occupied) and they said it wasn’t a problem and we were put in a little annexe. Starters were great. However the mains were a great disappointment. Sister in law had a hot Parmo which she said tasted really strange?? And her chips were greasy, like the cooking oil needed a change. One of us had steak pie and said the steak was chewy and tasteless. One had a fish pie which was swimming with grease from the melted cheese on top. The fish was nowhere to be seen and it was mainly a cheese and potato pie! One of our party had a steak which was enjoyed with no complaints. Desserts were ordered and they again were spot on. So all in all it was a disappointment, when we were looking forward to our treat.

What an absolute treasure this Pub is. Today 22/12/2023, we had been on the Santa Express experience nearby. Our journey lasted until 1.30pm. Our party 4 adults,2 children were hungry. We hadn’t booked anywhere. I had checked out pubs/restaurants in the area and had seen this one. Took a chance to just see if they could accommodate us. In we went in our Christmas pyjamas. No problems they accommodated us. The menu is varied and reasonably priced. Two of our party were vegetarian and were impressed with the choice for a change. We had the creamy goats Cheese chargrilled red pepper/char grilled Cajun/minute steak and blue cheese ciabattas. Also the sweet potato and black bean burger. Portion of chips and onion . Everything was spot on, very tasty. No complaints. All served with a smile by truly attentive staff. After our meal, we were sat just chatting when one of the lady chefs came out and asked us if we wanted to try the rocky road cake she had just made. It would be rude not to. This wasn’t a charged dessert, it was just a lovely little gesture. It is in a quiet village with a lovely view over fields. Typical country style pub, good selection of ales/beers and spirits. It does not open all day so please check opening hours. Lovely place if your in the area give it a go

Outstanding food. Outstanding service. The Sunday lunch was unbelievable. The turkey was so juicy, the gravy was tasty. Stuffing was beautiful. I had the homemade brownie for dessert which tasted homemade. It was stunning. Absolutely stunning. Asked our waitress for a couple of extra pigs in blankets and she got this for us straight away, no questions asked. The service was second to none. One of the best Sunday lunches I've had. The manager came over to make sure we were okay also, which was a nice touch. My only small tiny critique was my pint of Guinness wasn't great but the red wine more than made up for it. Will definetely be back when we're back in the area.

Reticent to give a good report in case the trolls spoil things but cannot recommend the Coore Arms highly enough. This used to be a very nice pub to eat but the Sunday lunch today was extremely disappointing the Yorkshire puddings were for some reason dark brown inside and out and like a stodgy muffin. Our cabbage came brown, broccoli was rock hard. Beef was so tough it was very hard to cut, one of our dinner was just the end thick chunk of the joint, but rock hard again. Vegetable soup for starter was a watery broth with over cooked vegetables in it, so much so you could see black burnt marks on it. We were compensated with free puddings, which were nice however we have preferred to be reimbursed for the food that was not served to an acceptable standard. The staff were pleasant and understood our concerns though.

Used to be a family favourite indeed my parents dined here regularly for years. Have to say Sunday lunch was abysmal, poor quality meat that appeared precooked / pre sliced. GF Yorkshire puddings were soggy and not cooked, GF Gravy was essentially just a stock cube in a gravy boat. Witnessing the landlord berate young staff in the dining room was the icing on the cake. We won’t ever return.

Have dined here previously a few times and has always been the choice because of their gluten free selection. My daughter and my dad both have coeliac. However today the gluten free Yorkshire puddings were very poor, like a sodden cake. The gravy offered was even worse, it was just watery like a jug of chicken stock. To top it off listening to the landlord talk to his staff like he was straight out of fawlty towers was unreal. Can’t believe people think they can get away with an attitude like that. Won’t be returning.

We were lucky to find this little traditional gem whilst staying in a neighbouring village. As I am a Gluten Free diner, I was delighted to be able to have a Sunday roast accompanied by GF Yorkshire pudding and GF gravy! This is rare, especially in the countryside! The food was delicious, the meat was very tender, served with roast and mash potatoes, roast parsnip and additional vegetables. Great portion sizes too. The staff were so friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked through the front door. Had an amazing Sunday lunch today at the Coore Arms in Scrutton, the food was lovely, tasty, excellent quality, excellent portions and best of all you could taste every part of the food not like some places where Sunday lunch is like school dinners where the flavours just become lost (saying that I liked my school dinners )Service was excellent and it was reassuring that this restaurant was taking the COVID19 procedures seriously and managing it efficiently without making it regimental, you can be assured that your safety is their priority. The manager and the staff were polite and nothing was too much, the manager even checked if our portions were enough and offered extra potatoes and vegetables if we wished, however the portions were perfect.Puddings were delicious and presented beautifully. This is our first time back for sometime and it was a lovely experience, we really do recommend and we will be back. One further point if you book then please support this pub especially in this testing time and don’t just book in case you don’t get a table and then cancel (you wouldn’t if you know how good the food is!).Thanks see you again soon

Called in for a couple of drinks and food. So glad we did! Food portions are well worth the money. Staff are friendly and helpful. Couldn’t ask for a better Landlord. Definitely recommend and will definitely call again when up here

Booked at last minute on the way home from a walk in the Dales. Had the beef burger and mexican chicken parmo. Both were lovely, good size portions and very tasty. Toilets were clean, 1 way system and hand sanitizer throughout. Definitely reccomend.

I agree with everything said in the review of 23rd July. Superb Sunday lunch but I was disappointed the staff weren’t wearing visors/masks. At this present time I feel the public need total reassurance .

We’ve just been to The Coore Arms following all the changes in the world following the coronavirus pandemic. It was quiet and I write this in the hope people soon return to enjoy the lovely food, drink and service they provide. They are doing absolutely everything they can to keep everyone safe and following government guidelines on distancing etc etc and people should not be put off.The food and drink was fantastic. The barmaid very attentive and the owner very cheerful. We would definitely go back.

Great option offered by mark. Just had a takeaway for the family. Missed our fortnightly visit and the mexican parmo. Will be using the takeaway again shortly. Thanks again to mark and his team and hope things get back to normal soon. Andrew

On a trip to Leeming, found this very hospitable pub. The owner was very friendly and offered his suggestions for food. Went with the Mexican Parmo and was not disappointed. Very reasonable price as well!

L’aperta e calorosa accoglienza sia da parte del gestore che degli avventori locali, e un gustoso arrosto di agnello fanno di questo pub di campagna, non distante dall’autostrada, un valido posto in cui fermarsi.Onestissimo il conto.

Brilliant surprise birthday for mams 80th, we had a great time at the coore arms, the staff were truly amazing playing their part well to ensure the event went as smoothly as possible. Food was great with plenty of choice, huge portions and accommodated all our party of 12 needs superbly. Considering how busy it got with other tables, the staff never faltered. Would highly recommend the coore arms whether you are planning a big event or just a cosy meal for two, they have it all. Will definitely return so mam can have the Thai green curry after getting plate envy watching her granddaughter eat it, think she may have had a sneaky taste lol :)

Recommended by a friend as our usual eating place closed. 4 bus passes were seated in the bar area ,pleasant in front of the window but table too close to other diners who rapidly left. Food hot and plentiful but surprised when asked for egg AND pineapple with the gammon informed extra 50p !!!.However gammon, battered fish and lamb hotpot all very tasty ,and ice cream sundae all substantial portions.Single staff member running bar and serving was pleasant and efficient.Very good but table spacing in bar poor.

We booked a table for two for lunch. The configuration of the bar and seating arrangement is a little cramped. Our table was very close to the next table which made social conversation a little awkward. The food and service was excellent and and represented good value for money.

Was so looking forward to my first Christmas Day meal out ever. But was so disappointed we were not told at booking that we were not going to be in restaurant instead we were sat in bar tucked away down the bottom no atmosphere no music no decorations turkey lunch came two small roast potatoes one pigs in blankets one parsnip draped across top small disc of paxo sage and onion stuffing. Basic boiled veg no imagination, on our table no China for the condiments just looked as though come out of kitchen cupboard, a tea light in an old pub dish. All in all terrible will not return

First time we have been here and it was really good, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. It's a lovely pub tucked away off the main road but well worth a visit, we shall certainly be visiting again.

The four of us all had fantastic meals, the Mexican Parmo, sausage and mash and pasta were excellent but the star of the show was the Belly Pork stuffed with black pudding and sausage meat. This was genuinely the nicest meal I have ever eaten anywhere! I have had Belly pork in 4/5 rosette restaurants and the meal I had in the Coore Arms was by far superior. The bar area was busy with other people eating and drinking at the bar and the atmosphere was excellent. The staff were friendly and polite throughout. Cannot recommend highly enough.

We’ve been here on numerous occasions and thoroughly enjoyed the food and experience however last night was utterly disappointing. When we booked we were advised that there was a big party in the restaurant at 7.30pm therefore could accommodate us in the bar at 7pm. As we’d eaten in the bar before this was fine. We arrived early to ensure our order got to the kitchen before the big party arrived. From about 7.15pm guests started to arrive and fill the bar. Rather than them being shown through to the restaurant which was empty about 30 people proceeded to fill the bar encroaching on our space whilst trying to enjoy a family meal. It was that noisy that you couldn’t even hear yourself think let along enjoy any type of conversation. The manager came over at one point and asked if we were ok where we expressed our dissatisfaction and asked whether they could be shown through to the restaurant which they’d booked out. We were just advised that they weren’t ready to go through and didn’t even get an apology at this stage. We quickly finished our meals and left. Although 2 meals were knocked off the bill (about £20) we were utterly dissatisfied with the experience and management of the evening. The party should have been shown through to the restaurant to allow diners in the bar to enjoy their meals in peace or we should have simply been told when booking that they were fully booked that evening and we would have come another night. We will not be returning anytime soon which is a shame as have previously enjoyed dining here.

The staff at this pub were amazing and so so friendly. We went to this pub due to the vast vegan options they offered. However when we received our vegan food we realised it was not vegan once it had been tasted. The vegan had to wait until the table had finished their food before the vegan meal came out. The staff were extremely apologetic which was appreciated. However once we received the bill we noticed we had still been charged the full amount for the vegan meal. Considering we had spent over £100 on food they should have reduced the price of the vegan meal.

We stopped here on the way home from a weekend in Muker for lunch. What a great pub with a very friendly, welcoming landlord. We decided to have the Lamb hotpot and the vegan sausage casserole which were both very tasty and well presented (Home cooked according to the landlord). The usual selection of North Yorkshire pub real ales on offer, together with a good selection of wines.

Reserved a table online for a small family reunion. Clearly a popular spot and there were a lot of people milling around outside and drinking outside the pubs on the main street. Service inside was good and there was a good choice of food which was very tasty. Sadly there was a large group of well watered men booked onto the table next to us, in the area by the bar, which completely spoilt the last half of our meal as we simply couldn't hear each other talking. It was a real shame that staff didn't consider putting us in the other part of the restaurant where there were several empty tables all evening, or relocating us for the last part of our meal when it would have been obvious we could no longer converse or hear. .... this would have made all the difference. (It would have been awkward having to ask to be moved ... but care from front of house staff could have carefully relocated us.)

Good value Sunday Lunch with all the usual trimmings, Pork was good and a piece of crackling, 2 Yorkshire puddings, nice cauliflower cheese and swede mash, The rest was the usual veg you get with a Sunday lunch, Plates were hot which is a good sign, A very good sticky toffee pudding and custard, Toilet are very clean, 2 good guest Ales, bonus for us ale drinkers as we all don't drink Lager or cider, Return, definitely.

Food was tasty. However the crusted cod ordered by 2 of our party was served with a very meagre amount of tiny pieces of crispy potatoes. It was like 3 chips chopped up. I pointed this out to the girl serving as it was more like a starter. She took it back to the kitchen and quickly returned to say chef was making some more. I had to laugh and I think even the serving girl was embarrassed when she brought me a tiny bowl you’d normally get mayo/ketchup in with another very meagre portion of potato pieces! Also it was meant to be served with creamed leeks and there must have been a leek shortage too! Saying that the other 2 party members had significantly larger portions, a gammon and a sizzler. When the plates were cleared I also informed the guy of the issue with the potatoes served with the cod. He asked the other person if hers was the same and she had said she wasn’t bothered by the small portion, she does not have much appetite and often has a starter instead of main. It’s a shame I came home hungry and I’m not a big eater myself. I’d consider going again but if you’re hungry give the crusted cod a miss! Edit 22/10/24. The owner rang me last week to discuss and apologise. He told me he would be speaking to the manager and would get back to me.
