One of the most interesting hospitality experiences I have had. I did like the venue, good lively student / tourist vibe, busy but still room to pleasantly relax and observe all the goings on while having a drink and food. Comfortable seating, and warm, so dried out nicely from a horribly wet and windy day. It certainly did not promise well - walked up and asked for a lunch item, to be told it was table seating and they were still on brunch. After a wait my brunch order was taken and I asked for fresh orange without ice (it was a cold day outside and ice just waters down what is already a cold drink anyway). After some wait, I was told we are now on lunch menu so I ordered what I had wanted in the first place ! I complained about the drink, which had arrived full of ice down to the bottom, and due to this and the mess up over the wait and brunch / lunch turnover point, they gave me a fresh orange without ice and made no charge. They were very apologetic and couldn't have been nicer to me. The food, when it eventually arrived, was excellent, very tasty indeed, very enjoyable and a delight to eat. Don't think I can give a full 5 points, but looking back over the whole experience, I would give it 4.5 I think. In the end only the slow service let it down, as the mistakes were rectified very well.

What a dirty and disgusting premise, crap staff, dirty room, bathroom full of mould, room smelt damp and of smoke, I would never stay here again I would rather sleep rough.

We visited on April 24th having read the good reviews on here. Arrived just after 6 and the pub was already quite busy ( always a good sign) but we got a table to eat ok. We then had an excellent pub experience of some good drinks and great food. The 3 young ladies who were serving both drinks and food were all very friendly, polite and efficient. The food was good British Pub food. I had Sausage and Mash and my partner had Gammon and chips. The pub itself was old fashioned but in the best sense, beams and fireplaces, loved it. Would definitely recommend but might be worth booking.

Been here a few times over the years. Now a Nicholson's pub. Walk into the covered courtyard from Goodramgate and you have a choice of two bars, one to the left and one to the right. Both have a good real ale selection. Very busy early evening a week before Christmas. Ic and Flic found space on a large table with people moving up for us. A good pint of Golden Doubloon from Laine brewery. A lovely large pub with a restaurant area for more formal dining.

Tried the fish and chips here and it was an amazing dish! The service was great, everyone answered any questions I had, about the beers and sauces. The restaurant also has a lovely "antique" atmosphere and decor, which was nice for a visit to such as old town as York.

We went to this establishment on 25/11/24 at18.15. We went in as a family of 5 and were shown to out table and asked if we wanted drinks and we did. Vintage inns had a black Friday deal where you could get 40% off main meals, which was a bonus but not totally the main reason as we DID use Vintage inns quite regularly. We then waited 20 minutes for an assistant to ask what we would like to eat. We said 4 fillet steaks and a kids beef burger, only to be told there were NO steaks of any kind. We then decided we would have gammon..NO gammon. at this stage we said we will have a starter of calamari while we decided...NO calamari . At this point we had finished our first round of drinks and asked what they DID have, which was pizza, pork bellies and a Thai curry. To cut an already long story short.... food came (after 1 hour 30 mins and again asking for the manager, and having to get another round of drinks). pizzas dry as a bone came. pork bellie (the most tender part was the crackling) and a just passable Thai curry. We complained to the duty manager who agreed to not charge for the inedible meals but would for drinks and barely passable curry (unbelievable). DO NOT USE THIS PUB. I have since complained to headquarters in Birmingham and after three complaints, Manager of pub. Manager of pub again who offered us £30 for the inconvenience (not accepted, would not even buy us a starter each) and then to the area manager WHO HAS NOT HAD THE DECENCY TO GET IN TOUCH AFTER 5 DAYS. As of 17.59 on 16/12/24 i will be taking this to a higher level as a matter of priceable and will encourage ALL of my friends and colleges, ( who are numerous, due to the company i work for) NEVER to use Vintage inns again. This is a shortened version, i could go on about other people leaving and also leaving their drinks because no one was at the door stating they had no food but waited till you had paid for a round of drink. Absolutely disgraceful

We stayed here for a few nights. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The food is very good and great value for money. The breakfast was also very good. Our room was a bit tired and could do with a upgrade but soon got used to it as you don't spend all day in it. The other issue is the bathroom with no privacy glass , faulty blind and no heating you could use the toilet and see the road. All this and I would still go back as we had a great stay. Thanks to Simon and the team

A busy pub with lovely staff but felt sorry for the girls who were working hard but were rushed off their feet. Took my allergy seriously which was great. The garlic schnitzel was lovely…extremely garlicky but not a problem for me. Hubby’s roast dinner was good but the veg was undercooked and hard. The beef however, was delicious. We were advised the food was an hour wait and it was.

This place has hugely gone downhill over the past few years. The cafe has absolutely no atmosphere - no Christmas decorations, no music and no soul. Staff are not welcoming or friendly. No one told us to order at the counter so we sat for 20 mins waiting to be served. We ordered afternoon tea for two and it was very very average - thankfully we had a voucher, otherwise I would have been fuming to pay £37!! I ordered a kids toastie and asked for a few crisps with it (willing to pay) but was told this is not possible, despite adult toasties coming with crisps. The toilet was absolutely disgusting and had no soap - I mentioned this to the waiter and he said "yeah I know".

Such a beautiful pub on the inside and out, sadly let down by the service from one of the waitresses who clearly doesn't like to deal with the public. The roast dinners had such potential to be amazing, however the food was let down by bad tasting gravy and all the vegetables tasted of aniseed, and there was no stuffing nor cranberry sauce to accompany the roast turkey! Sadly wont be back any time soon.
